Hello people!
First post here. Been looking all around for a lag fix for the Brazillian GT-I9000B with no luck. Perhaps the z4Mod kernel patcher might work, but i have no idea how to dump the kernel from the phone (my first day with the phone). Can you people give me some directions?
Thanks in advance.

You will need root, and android sdk.
in adb shell, after gaining root (type "su") type:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/bml7 of=/sdcard/zImage1
dd if=/dev/block/bml8 of=/sdcard/zImage2
one of them probably the kernel.
Thanks for the reply.
Apparently the lag fix was easier than i thought, just used the OCLF from the market after rooting. While IMHO that's not the best lag fix, that'll do for now.
As soon as i have spare time i will look into better means to apply carrier-unlocked kernels on the i9000b.
Thank you, sztupy, for your help.
Hello again.
I want to get my hands dirty with this phone. Can some one point me how to build a kernel and, if possible, a rom, for the I9000B?
Damn, i feel like im missing a lot here just because of a different version of the phone.
PS: Can i use the opensource kernel available from samsung? Seems that it is for the international I9000... perhaps it's just a matter of choosing the modules to get it working on the i9000B?
OCLF by Ryan ZA works fine in GT-I9000b. No problems and safe.

Actualy, it doesn't.
I'm on Froyo JPA now, and i've tried Z4mod and it's really better about performance improvement.
But my 3g connection died after this lagfix and then i remove it, whit no more problems.
I'm waiting for updates on z4mod and solutions about this issue.
And What's your opinion about this lagfix"es" ?
Regards....
CristianCan
Well I used the OCLF, but the lag was not fixed at all. Actually, except for skype support, all in all 2.1 was better than 2.2. Mostly because of the lagfix.
Edit: I think I was not clear enough. In 2.1 the OCLF worked wonders, and the phone was really fast and responsive. With 2.2, the lagfix does give me a higher score on Quadrant, but the overall experience was just as choppy as without the lagfix.

Hey guys.
as title says. i am unable to flash Voodoo's kernel on my SGS.
I tried flashing with CWM and Odin and still didn't get it to work.
I hope someone out there can assist me fix this annoying issue.
It also didn't work when flashing Darky v9.2 resurrection, after flashing with Odin and booting for the first time and installing darkyROM manager from the market and choosing my options including Voodoo Kernel and save and exit then reboot to flash it i just get normal 2e recovery.
thanks for having the time reading my post
I have the same problem and no answer. So i changed to Speedmod ^^
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967363 -<<< 75 Klicks and no answer. Maybe Voodoo is not so popular as Speedmod
damn.....
this is really weird, and the weird part is how none even replied or commented on your thread!
this is sad.
lets hope that someone will shed some light on us
Yes 2 poor boys in the same boat
But for me it´s ok....
I´ve seen that nobody is interested that Voodoo runs at all SGS´s to the contrary to Speedmod where i get much support
Let's make that 3 poor guys on the same boat.
I have the exact same problem as susdiehl. Logs says model not detected.
All I read about it is that my MBR is corrupted. But still haven't found how to fix that.
Supercurio suggested to do this: dd if=/voodoo/partition_tables/8GB of=/dev/block/mmcblk0 bs=1 seek=446
This did something, and a conversion has started and completed, but then the phone wouldn't boot not even for hours.
Have you guys installed SpeedMod K13C? does this works well?
i have the same problem so i just use speedmode its works.

Yes im on k 13 c and everything is fine.no lagfix only the recommend tweaks.if i try to switch to ext4 with speedmod it works.
There is no reason for me to switch again to voodoo.
damn i see our boat is going to sink
regarding Hardcore's SpeedMod k13c its running great so far. I flashed it on the day it was released.
well the only thing that is annoying me badly is that i run on Darky's ROM and Darky himself optimise's his Rom for using Voodoo's kernels, and it really sucks that i can even experience what Darky recommends for his Rom's.
again lets all hope someone will show up and be able to assist us
Darky says take the Voodoo but the majority says this:
well thats true but i think Darky knows his Rom better.
you can check his first post on this page:

damn i just flashed DamianGTO Ultimate kernel and its SUPER fast lol!!
damn DamianGTO just released a new version of that kernel.
Grrrrrr
I've flashed speedmod and activated the lagfix. To be honest, I think I didn't needed lagfixes at all, because I haven't seen too much difference in use.
Anyway, it is done now. I'm sure later the difference will show up

its really sad how none can comment on what we are facing..
=/
have you tried darky's resurection?
try that or a full rom with repartition than flash voodoo
report back
you could contact supercurio again perhaps he is interested in finding out what causes that
btw i like voodoo alot had major problems with data on speedmod now i am on cm7 but i am hoping supercurio will add voodoo features to cm7 (as a seperated modded kernel) too

His kernel uses ext2, which other developers refuse to use due to a possiblity of damaging your phone.
In my experience, ext2 isn't any faster than ext4, not that I can notice.

Hi,
These days the roms with [RAFPIGNA 1.8OC] are lagging very much!
I hope the dev knows what he's doing wrong...
ive had no problems with lag since i upgraded to the 1.8 kernel.. maybe its u or ur fone?
Works great for me. Why don't you switch to another kernel if you don't like it. Or maybe address this issue in rafpignas thread instead of making a new one.
Or why don't you just make your own, just the way you like it. Rapigna has all the source code available.
Is this DFT or CWM compatible?
Thank you, thank you, ladies and gentlemen. (This joke was inevitable, no?)
Seriously though, haven't experienced this. Rafdroid is pretty smooth for me.

Nothing wrong with Raf's kernel; maybe try some different sd cards or try a gingerbread build with Raf's kernel and without an ext partition.
We need an unthank button. I think you should make your own kernel since you want to criticize rafpinga's kernel. What kind of comment is, "I hope the dev knows what he's doing wrong"?
IMO, the rafinga kernel is smoother, and crisper than the majority of kernels I've installed.

We are able to boot custom kernels now!
Anyway... this is the first release of the fully working custom kernel (flashable via xRecovery). I haven't had much time to work on it so it's kind of proof-of-concept. Tested for 48h without any problem (not even a reboot).
FreeKernel-alpha1:
http://www.mediafire.com/?d8v914keiqsmc3n
This is the alpha version of custom 2.6.29 kernel based on the SE sources. I do not plan to work on this release anymore - it is just for testing purpose. From today on I'll start to port SE stuff to the latest (GBread) kernel.
Changes:
- removed 32 fps cap
- implemented netfilter (Droid wall, native USB/wifi tethering etc.)
- undervolted to 0.950mV to save battery
- don't remember what else I did, I bet something nasty
- super ugly boot logo!
Requirements:
- baseband .52 + the relevant kernel
- clean 2.1 ROM, compatibile with .52 baseband (e.g. .504)
- working xRecovery
Please note I am not responsible for any damage this software may cause to your device! Use it at your own risk!
There is absolutely no support for this alpha release!

So, if you want to test this new kernel, please keep in mind it is only compatible with stock 2.1 firmwares (.504 and above) that are compatible with baseband 52.
It is only for testing purposes, and any feedback for this alpha kernel is purely for the benefit of others, Z is not and will not be supporting this version, do not expect it to be ready for daily use!
Please post your results and how you get on with the kernel.
Video of FreeKernel
http://vimeo.com/21838810
does anyone know how to embed it?
I tested the kernel on baseband .46 on TripNMIUI 0.3.2, and the removal of the FPS cap is incredible, the phone is so much smoother and fluid it is unbelievable - it is like having a new phone. I noticed the screen feels a lot more responsive aswell!.
Obviously it is not at all compatible with the ROM, there is no radio and there are frequent reboots, but just a taster in terms of things to come
Apologies for the poor video, but I think its enough to get the general gist of the smoothness
Tried custom kernel just for kicks on trips miui 3.2...bb 54 and up super unstable no network/wifi tons of reboots....
bb 52 and bb49 no network but wifi IS working no sd card mount though
gonna test other roms aswell....
For install custom kernel to be need xrec by Z not from flashtool.
All works, clean install bb 2.0.46 and 2.0.A.0.504.
Dont problems.
I done back to my custom rom way xrec and flashed the patch bb.49, nothing problem.
cheers
this will not work on bb .46 i have tried and failed. no network at all. have tried on several roms... only eternity roms are working on this kernel on bb .52....
supposedly it is suppose to work with bb .49 have not tested on this bb so i cant say for sure.
guaranteed on .52 build 504...
results on quadrant show fps cap has been removed.
overclock is not possible but undervolting is
colors have not yet changed but should upon release of other custom kernels
Can I brick my x10 with this or only bootloop it (because bootloop is fixable with SEUS)
will this work with freex10 and can anyone give me a link to the main thread where zdhihu posted this? i can't find it. thanks.

You can't brick it as you only flash some files to the system, and you should still be able to access xrecovery if it bootloops
THIS IS ONLY USABLE WITH STOCK 2.1 ON. 52 BASEBAND!!!
This is a test kernel not meant as anything more than a proof of concept. There is absolutely no reason to flash this unless you are personally working on making your own custom kernels. This kernel is not even an alpha release, it will never be developed or supported. If you choose to flash it just to toy around don't whine about functionality.
When custom kernels are available anything the hardware is capable of and drivers can be written for will be possible. Everyone needs to calm down and quit asking the same questions over and over.

No. Z posted it in the bootloader cracking thread. This is only meant for stock 2.1 FW on. 49-.52 BB and is not functional for daily use. This is only meant as a test if you want a stable new kernel its still going to take a little while.

It won't work with any ROM 100% - its just designed for testing, you won't be able to use it for daily use yet.
If you just want to try it out, its possible it will boot up on freex10 and you will see the effects of not having a FPS cap - but it is unlikely the majority of things will work, like radio etc. as it is meant for stock 2.1 roms.
If you do want to try it, make a backup on xrecovery first
I dont know what you have xD
What do you mean with "its not ready for dayly use" ?
I use it now since yesterday afternoon and everything works perfect!
I had no random reboots and everything is very smooth!
My Battery lost 1 % with stable 1 Ghz (playing around and testing).
So not be scared! flash it!

As in its only supported by the stock 2.1 ROM, and if you run into any problems with it, its not being supported so you won't get a fix
so for example if i install this kernel on my freex10, how can i remove it later if i have problems with it?

Create a backup on xrecovery before installing it, and then when you need to go back just restore it

Hello,
I am trying to flash a better ROM for my sister's Galaxy 3, currently the one came with the phone is super laggy and slow. I am coming from the X10 Mini Pro forum, and we only have like 3 custom ROM there, but it seems Galaxy 3 have quite a lot more choices...
I am wondering which one is the currently most stable ROM here that have the lag issue fixed? I flash my X10 quite often, but i don't plan on flash and re-flash my sister's phone. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
i would recommend jpm+jit enabled.....
i am cureently using the same....and i am quite happy with it....
I am a advance user, like i said, i flash my X10 pretty much every time the xda developer come out with a hotfix or a newer version of their ROM, the current ROM that i am running on my X10 have stuff like hybrid Foyo/Gingerbread, overclock, undervolt, jit etc. Is not 100% stable, and i need to force close some stuff once in a while, but i have no problem with it.
I don't mind flashing a custom ROM, as long as one of its release is stable (since this will be for my sister's phone, which is a noob).
However, won't the "stock XXJPM or JPN" still have the lag issue though? I thought all the OEM ROM have the lag issue?

hmm... i really tought it was stable... then you can make your own custom rom via Team Lambent Corrosion kitchen and if you want ROM without problems, a "buggless beast" then dont flash any ROMs

Shouldn't you be plugging your own ROM?
That aside, I think stock JPM will do her a treat. Or then deodexed + JIT + Fugutweaks. The camera is an issue pretty much in every rom and it can be avoided by disabling the location stuff. Or it could be someone has a fixed Camera.apk laying around somewhere. If so, let me know, I want it.

Hum.. i know X10 Mini Pro's ROM has Camera.apk that came with it, and works, but i prefer the Sony Ericsson's SECMCamera.apk instead. So i swapped it out. I wonder if that Camera.apk would work on Galaxy 3...
I think i will try to download and gather up the above mentioned 2 ROMs, and try it out this weekend then...

If you're still liking bionix, then give the fishman mod of it a try.
It's a revamp of the same rom, many tweaks to speed it up
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441976
I had the same problem with Bionics after using it for a while. I wasn't sure if I needed to clear up some cache or something. I did move to fishman's version which is running smooth again, but there are some lag when opening applications. It is not always there, but noticible. I am guessing it may be Ram manager, but not sure.
