Got rid of vibrant.
Upgraded to g2. The hinge is just horrible. It wobbles even with keyboard closed.

Trackball broke. Wifi didn't work no matter what rom I flashed. They sent me a new one even though I bought it off cl.
Got rid of nexus one got mytouch 4g.
It's a good phone. the materials they used is really good. But comes with too many qc issues.
Such as deadpixel loose battery cover. Washed out screen,off centered front facing camera, button makes squeaky sounds.
I had to send it in 5 times to get a good screen..but still had other problems such as slightly loose battery cover, light leaks, off centered front facing camera. Got rid of it and got vibrant. Couldn't be any happier.

The Vibrant is very so-so. 6 months into ownership, my battery (which was never spectacular to begin with) is showing signs of wear and tear.
I am currently looking and waiting for my next phone.
Samsung's (lack of) updates due to their re-releasing of the Vibrant (first as the Nexus S, and now as the Vibrant Plus). Has soured me on the brand. I am going to take a very hard look at Motorola's offerings. Hopefully T-mobile will get a decent Moto phone in (NOT the cliq or the cliq 2).
HTC has been resting on their laurels a little bit.... I expect to have bought a new device by June or July.
Grass isnt always green-er on the other side. I like the vibrant but I will upgrade when a high end physical keyboard phone comes out. I wish the samsung epic was gsm.

I called Samsung...........and they asked me "what's customer service?"
I will say that this is the best phone I have had since i migrated away from blackberry, granted this is the only the first android device i have owned but not the only one that i have played around with. I will say that the lack of support directly from T-mobile and Samsung is disappointing, however the support from developers and fellow members on xda more than makes up for it.
Same here. I like my Vibrant. I have heard over and over HTC, Motorola owners wish again and again they had a Vibrant.
I wish they didn't name the Vibrant Plus the same name as the Vibrant! FFC, nor 4g will get my to purchase. I'm holding out for an 8px camera, and a dual core.
I'm keeping my eye on phones like the Optimus 2X from LG. HTC has some promising offerings.
I like Samsungs hardware, I just don't like how they treat their customers.
No doubt, I LOVE my Vibrant... It is Samsung's politics/strategy/lack of compliance (open handset alliance) that has me annoyed.
like I said in the past, Samsung should make the hardware. leave the software updates to google.

G2 - not sure what the big deal with the loose hinge is, I don't have a problem with mine and I def don't use my phone upside down.
Nexus One - looks like there's nothing wrong with it after the exchange then but the phone is pretty outdated now It still has fantastic build quality though.
MyTouch - agreed on the QC problem; if you do get a perfect one though, you'd prob be happy with it.
I'm happy with my Vibrant right now after putting Nero on it, the only thing I have against it is the ****ty GPS.
^ agreed, the Nexus One I have is absolutely the best built phone, and most comfortable that I have ever held.
I just came to the Vibrant from a MyTouch Slide. The Slide is a decent phone, but the hardware was outdated from the start, and now it's still waiting for the 2.2 update while original MyTouches have received it.
I'm giving up on manufacturer updates altogether. Root, apply rom of choice, enjoy.

That's what I thought wwhen I bought the g2. But I don't use my phone upside down. It wobbles when I touch the screen. The upper part(one with the screen) moves up and down. Wobbles like hell.
Nexus one.- yea I got like a brand new one. didn't have much warranty left so got rid of it since I am not going to pay 60 dollars to fix the power button. Nexus one slcd has a power button flaw.after a while your power button will stop working. And if you have nexus one you probably know about the screen..doesn't have the true multitouch.
Mytouch-yea but almost impossible to get a perfect one. Like I said to send it on many times just to get the screen that doesn't wash out.
When I got it I was happy then I found bout the light leaks and ffc off centered loose battery cover.

So I just got Sprint to put in for a new (well, or refurbed) EVO for me, and unfortunately they are back ordered. The guy I talked to seemed to have no clue how long it will be before they receive my replacement. Are any of you guys in the same boat and does anyone have any info on how long it might be? This Samsung Rant isn't really the phone I'd like to be using haha. Thanks.
Everytime they told me refurbs were backordered, I still got them within 3 days. I can pretty much guarantee you it wont be more than 2 weeks, at the very most.
That would be awesome if it is only three days, maybe i'll have it by wednesday or so. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have reason to be optimistic!
They said that to me that a few weeks ago and told me since we have no refurbs we have to give you a new one. This was the sales leader in the store so I guess if you know the rules you may be able to get a new one if you give them a nudge.
looks like sprint is having a lot of problems with the quality of the htc evo, is a nice phone but the quality is bad. Is made for Sprint, that is why.
No, they are on back order because Sprint was covering physical damage. People were destroying their phones.
The policy changed yesterday, so recon stock should start to level out again.
The rep told me the same thing. A lot of people have been calling in about dust under the screen on the top left recently. Apparently its an issue only seen later on in the life of the device. HTC is really disappointing me.

I'll take the bait... I think the Evo is on par or if not better quality than any other similar device. Truth is, whatever went wrong with my Evo was probably my own fault.

HTC's phones have horrible build quality. Though it is a bit interesting, the Nexus One didn't seem to have a whole lot of build quality issues.
My EVOs build quality is junk. My previous phone was a Hero, that was worse!
The iPhone has the best hardware on the market. It is way way above anything else out there.

Got to love that anecdotal evidence. My HTC has been great, therefore it is the best phone on the market.

I had that dust under the left top corner of the screen a couple months ago and sprint replaced the glass. Then I bricked my phone like an idiot and was to impatient to recover it so I filed an insurance claim and they overnighted me one. Brand new. Now I have 2 but not sure what to do with the old one.

maybe you need to make that switch to verIzon then... ive owned 3 htc phones (tilt, touch pro and evo) and never had problems with build quality or hardware issues. i use all my phones for work and i have dropped, stepped on, sat on, used in the rain and countless other acts of neglect and every time picked the phone up and made a phone call with it
First, to the OP, I've been told by store personnel, that it is STORE POLICY that they *HAVE* to give you a brand new one if refurbs are backordered and they have new ones in stock at the store. Don't let them weasel out on you, and you get left holding a backordered, smelly ol' refurb. And yes, I've had refurbs that STUNK to high heaven of perfume.

Every HTC device I've owned has failed from QC issues, usually multiple times.
My 6700 and 6800 both succumbed to key failures on the keyboard. I tried the usual fixes (contact cleaner, vigorously "massaging" the keys), but nothing worked and a keyboard where 1/3 of the keys are dead is useless. When I got my Touch Pro, brand new in the box, two of the keys cracked off onto my lap while he was activating it - the Best Buy sales person was horrified and got me a new one. A few months later, the external Back/End button kept creeping higher and higher until it fell off. The replacement would reboot every few minutes, so that one went back too. Then my brand new Hero had an unresponsive Menu button, didn't notice that until I got home though. Swapped it out for a new one, the new one had dust pouring in the bottom left corner (if I remember correctly) after about a month, then the vibrator stopped working. Had to RMA that one, the replacement was shipped to my door, and the trackball was GONE - not even in the box, just simply gone! The replacement for that had a squishy "OK" (trackball press) button, but I just lived with it. My original Evo had cracks in the body (power button, and near the volume buttons), the screen was separating to the point where it'd get caught in my pocket, the microUSB port was flaky and required me to plug it in, rest it just right on my desk, then lay something on the connector to keep downward weight on it. The replacement had huge spots on the display, and eventually the touchscreen completely failed on that one.
I could go on and on, but I'm too tired right now. People can think whatever they want, accuse me of exaggerating or lying, but I'll just laugh - hysterically laugh - at the thought of anyone saying HTC has anything but mediocre quality.
I should also point out I've never dropped a device in my life - I'm fastidious, almost to an Adrian Monk-like degree, and pamper my devices. There was NO reason for them to fail the way they did, other than poor QC on HTC's part.
I'd still buy an HTC device though because of the hacker friendliness, but anyone who thinks they're a particularly high quality company is crazy.

The widgets I use make Android too practical to switch from.
There is no way you can say with a straight face that the EVO has a higher build quality than the iPhone.
'Never had any problems' seems to be incredibly highly subjective on the forums.

I have owned two HTC phones. My Hero was used for a year, no hardware issues what-so-ever (sold it in perfect condition for almost what I paid for it). My wife and I got Evo's at Christmas. Her iphone 3g had three returns because of hardware failures. The Evo's on the other hand have been great and neither of use use a protective case. I am fairly particular and take good care of my gadgets.

My Apache and Mogul and tp2 were all good solid phones. Whoever is nom nom noming apples balls so hard on build quality, remember that the iPhone are a sealed deal, non removable battery. The only thing that comes close is the Eco and Droid x. Eitherway there is no reason a company couldn't make a non serviceable Android loaded phone with identical build quality. Fact OS only Apple is retarded / brilliant enough to seal a phones components.

I am one of the many unsatisfied, and thoroughly disappointed purchasers of the Galaxy S on Bell Mobility in Canada. I have had countless problems with this phone, and poor service even prior to the infamous 2.2 update causing the self destruction of the phone. My question is, when the Nexus S gets released in Canada, is it worth it? Does anyone else have problems with their Samsungs, or was the Bell version just a freak occurence, and not a true example of how Samsung manufactures their devices? Can you guys tell me how your experiences with your Samsung phones have been? I need to know if I should give them a break on this one, or stay away altogether.

i came from only using HTC phones, and an N1 to this NS and ya it was getting used to but i have had nothing but good times with my baby.

I had the international galaxy s and i must say that samsung really screwed up the software part on the galaxy s series. But i really love samsung hardware.
U really cant compare galaxy s to this this phone. Nexus s is so much snappier. Didnt have any problems so far. Wouldnt change it for any phone thats announced so far.

Should have returned your phone if unsatisfied. The build quality of my NS is excellent and I wouldn't trade it for any other phone out at this time.
edit: also I have a Fascinate with Verizon for work. Build quality is amazing. Only problem I have right now is I am still running 2.1.

To add to the question, how is the gps?

I have met several problems with this phone:
1, Some time NS will reboot while making a long call;
2, The backspace key will sometimes does not work, especially with the early product version.
3, Messy code may happen in SMS sent to Users in CDMA network.
That's all. You may buy the latest version of NS and update it to 2.3.3 which is said to solve the random reboot problem.
My first smartphone's the HTC Hero, then N1 and now the NS. Must say i'm loving the weight distribution and design of the NS. I do Gmask (http://www.gmask.com/) for the back of the phone so the plastic bits doesn't even bother me. Haven't had an issue with random reboots except for when i overclock it to 1400mhz and beyond. Besides, 1000mhz is more than enough to run all my required apps/games smoothly. No issue with the backspace. Best phone i had and wouldn't trade it for one that puts me at the mercy of carriers/phone manufacturers for software updates.
Only item i notice is that the GPS in the NS takes a little longer to zoom in to my location compared to the N1. It's fine if i use Maps 5.0,places etc but if i use Brut's version of Maps for navigation (Singapore doesn't have free turn by turn navigation yet) i will take a relative long time (15-20 secs compared to instantly when using the same app on the N1). Not sure if that's a problem with the outdated app or with the GPS hardware, probably the app since others work just fine.
If gps is working, and my tracks will track properly, you are +1 on me.

Switched from the Evo to the NS - the S is clearly a higher quality device in terms of fit and finish. The Evo always creaked with light squeezing - which feels cheap to me - the battery cover was laughably flimsy, the soft-touch plastic was a little TOO soft and was easy to knick/gouge (and when this happened it revealed the red plastic underneath - looked horrible) and I always thought the button and rocker action and feedback was horrible on the Evo.
The materials are sorta meh in the S, especially compared to the N1 or iPhone 4, but the N1 was sorta overkill in that dept anyway and function seemed to follow form on the iPhone 4 (though I think it is inarguably gorgeous).
The NS feels very light in the hand, almost like its hollow. I believe that's more due to balancing and battery placement, and its not a bad thing. Just took a bit of getting used to.
Overall I think its very comparable to the iPhone 3g(s), but with a superior touch surface (I love the concave glass) and MUCH better front bezel design.

I love the build quality of both the Galacy S and Nexus S.
I've also had a Desire HD and G2, HTC's build quality leaves much to be desired. As is mentioned above, squeeze it in places and there are all kinds of creaks and groans. The G2 has too many issues to mention.
The Nexus S, although it might have a plastic back, feels very solid.
I would easily recommned the Nexus S. From a hardware persepctive the only thing wrong with it is the back gets scratched easily and if you push the back right where the USB port is you may hear a creak once in a while (the only time the cheap plastic back is really noticable). I've had one or two reboots but that's a software issue. So far I haven't had any other issues with build quality but just from shopping around I did get the impression some of the HTC products felt more "solid". However, as noted elsewhere here, love the curved glass and actually prefer the lighter feel of the phone as a whole.
I should point out that I came to the Nexus S from a Palm Pre so of course the Nexus S feels pretty much darn near unbreakable next to my old phone

My NS doesn't feel as cheap/hallow as my vibrant.
But still fingerprint magnet and back cover still scratches easy so baby it if you dont use case like me
A few weeks ago my HW0004 Evo's USB port began to malfunction, so I unrooted, took it to sprint, where the agreed to send me a refurb. I got my refurb, pulled up ##786#, noticed it was considerably older than my old phone, and that is was HW0003, not long after I realized the vibrate was broken, and sounded higher pitched and crackly, unlike my old Evo which was quite but strong. I took it back to Sprint, where they again agreed to replace the device, with yet another HW0003, The strength of the vibrate is back, but the crackly high pitch noise still exists. Is this a known issue? Anyone else notice this? Is there any way to get sprint to send me a new phone or a 0004 refurb?

They will keep sending refurbs(at least to a point I'm sure), but it's probably gonna be the luck of the draw which version you get. I would be surprised if there were any way to tell them to only send 0004s, particularly since the vast majority of the refurbs they have are probably 0003s.

Thanks for the reply, normally I wouldn't care but from day one i enjoyed the quite vibrate, and now it sounds like some cheap plastic phone. Once noticed, it can't be unnoticed.

As someone who has Monk-like (the TV show) OCD, I feel your pain.
If you have a history of problems, and are at a "real" corporately owned Sprint repair center, you can probably talk to a manager and get a new one. Don't expect to be successful on your first try, but make your problems known, if they say refurb only, remember their name, accept it, and when the inevitably defective refurb comes in, make sure that same manager is working that day, and show him how you're STILL unsatisfied.
Two of my biggest pet peeves are: people using the term "pet peeve" ;P and when companies take RMA'd merchandise and stick it right back out onto the selling floor. The cycle repeats until finally some poor soul gets stuck with it.

Yea, the manager at the store was the one who told me straight up that this new vibrate was "FINE" and he insisted after my second phone I was just hearing things, and that they all sounded like this. I beg to differ, two of my buddies evo's were quite just like mine, and you can still hear the difference. I love to get my original hw0004 board back, but it had the broken usb. Oh well. Thanks for hearing me rant, at least I know I'm not the only one with OCD like this.
Long story put short - Samsung tried to fix my phone's screen issue (overly intense/punchy colors while outside on a sunny day). They replaced the display, the battery, the motherboard. Pretty much a new phone. I was surprised at how well the phone ran after the repairs were done. It had never been this good in terms of how smoothly it ran, how loud the sound was from the speakers, how well the haptics worked. The only problem was that the screen issue became even worse after they replaced the display.
So I go back to the service center and they offer to replace the phone with a "new" one. That's basically a Samsung refurbished device. The performance of the device has gone back to the same lousy one it was before. Haven't been able to test the screen yet.
I checked out phone info sam app and surely enough it's a refurbished device with hardware revision 1.0
So I am wondering if Samsung has issued a hw revision later on in the manufacturing process and I got lucky and got a newer version in my repaired phone and that's why it ran so much better? Can any of you guys/girls here check out what's your hw revision, please?
