yes but i think the develpment is concentrated on light sensor drivers (still no improvement ) , but no development on backlight drivers so i thought may be developers are not aware of this bug in backlight driver

2nd status LED?

Does anyone know what the deal is with the 2nd status LED, the one on the left of the earpiece. What is it for?
Thats the bluetooth LED.
my bluetooth is on, and ive never noticed it blinking. under what circumstances does it blink?
Ive wondered this same thing ever since Ive gotten this phone... I have never seen it blink and with bt the right one is lit for me...
I activated my phone yesterday and received maybe 30 or so texts since then. The notification light only lit up after one of them, which i received a few hours ago. When I got the phone I just assumed it would light up for texts like my g1 did but after it didnt i was disappointed.
So, is the green light on the right supposed to light up for text/email/voicemail/etc...notifications? thanks and sorry for asking such a stupid question and doing it in the wrong thread
The light sensor is on the left, LED on the right. If you put backlight to auto you can test by coverint the left side.
is there even an auto for brightness?or is it during calls only?
confused
i don't have this backlight auto settings.
where can i enable that?
i just have a slider where i can change the brightness manually
yeah where is that setting for auto backlight, i would love to have that.
Settings -> Display -> disable Auto Brightness, and tap it off..
i dont have that.
maybe the mytouch didnt come with that sensor?
me neither.
i dont have that option there.

dude, as far as I know the Magic doesnt have any light senson.
the option quoted above doesnt exist
I don't think so
This has been the second time I have heard the one on the left is a light sensor by two different people , Maybe it is a light sensor but maybe some of the stock versions of android like mine {Vodafone UK 32B board} currently doesn't support the hardware??
I can see both the LEDs alright but the there is no obvious way to set the one on the left as far as I know.
Italian (TIM) HTC Magic (32A).
i now upgraded to hero rom and voila, the option is there.

Which model do you have? As far as I know, the Hero is the only device that has the light sensor, that's why the auto-backlight feature is only available in the Hero roms and not the stock Magic/Sapphire/MyTouch roms... I don't even think that the other thing is an LED, it looks like one but I'm sure I read somewhere that someone opened up his device to check and noticed that there are no wires connecting it up to anything!

does it work?
The Magic/Sapphire does NOT have a light sensor. The Hero is currently the only Android device with a sensor thats why you see that option with a Hero ROM.
no it doesnt work. as my predecessor already noticed

Screen turns off instead of dim light gradually

I have noticed that screen back light doesn't dim gradually when left without use ,it only turns off the screen ,is this a problem with backlight driver, as other android devices as well as hd2 with windows dim light before it closes the screen
Sent from my HTC using XDA App
any reply for that
why no one replies to my post , is this only my problem
Hello my friend, as far as I have seen it's a driver problem. Every Android build I have tried does this but in my opinion it's a minor annoyance, Im just happy that the screen turns off on it's own and backlight too as I remember earlier builds would leave the backlight on.

Keyboard Light

Hi all,
I was wondering if there was a way to force the keyboard keys to stay lit up until you close it. It seems to be cutting out mid type.
Thanks.
It turns off when you it's bright enough in the surrounding area. You can flash cyanogenmod and set all the brightness settings.
Thanks,
I guess I was hoping to be able to control this manually without having to flash a different rom.
At this time its not possible to control it manually from stock froyo. Maybe in gingerbread?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
do you have it set to automatic brightness? I noticed my keyboard turning on and off while typing and the screen dimmed and brightened with it. Turned off the auto brightness and hasn't done it since.

Turning off the auto brightness hasn't made any difference to me on my DZ. The backlight for the keyboard and capacative buttons seems to turn off and on quite often for no apparent reason (badly calibrated light sensor ?).
has anyone tried covering up the light sensor with a sticker or something? lol idk

That would certainly work, you can put your finger over it and show how it's the light sensor doing it. Probably not the best long term solution though

[Q] Keyboard Backlight problem

Hey.
My Droid pro is barely a month old and Im experiencing difficulty in getting the backlight of the physical keyboard to light up when its dark.
If i tilt it upwards, it comes on sometimes but this too is very random with no specific response to any particular type of lighting.
Its ALWAYS on in the day but never in the night
From what I've read, turning off automatic brightness setting is a solution but it has not worked for me - my phone has been on a custom brightness setting since day 1.
HELP!
do u have a screen protector installed?
No screen protector. that would solve the problem?
I just noticed this problem as well while I was trying to text in bed with the lights off. Couldn't see a damn thing
keyboard light problem
I have the same issue,i wished motorla would do a update and fix with a setting for that,in the meantime,I always hit the on off button and then it stays on for a bit
Not sure but...
I never had this problem until I downloaded am alternate keyboard. i installed swype and this problem started. Have not uninstalled to see if it fixes the problem
If your rooted then try installing keyboard backlight from the market. It works great for me.
Ive never had a problem with my backlight. Night or day.
backlight
I too have the same problem,im like the others, wished motorola would fix this and make it adjustable, i have a semi fix til they do fix for good, when u notice it is not on,reach up and just push the power button for the screen to temporarily shut off, then push power button again, use slider to open screen and then it should be lit up then, thanks
Any try the backlight app and see if that works?
which app is it? a link would be nice
if you have a screen protector, use a hole punch to cut a hole in it above the light sensors.
turn off automatic brightness.
with the backlight on, but keys off, cover the two sensors for a few seconds with your palm, that always gets my keyboard lights to come on.
On the DROID pro there is also a light sensor in the upper left corner.
I experienced the same issue that u did. I then put my finger over the light sensor and the backlight came on.
It seemed to stay on from that point forward in the dark.

1. are you rooted, and did you get the specific app mentioned.
2. did you completely miss where TWO of us have mentioned that covering the light sensor briefly usually turns the lights back on?

Thank you!!! it works great now with that app.
hey all, recently added GB to my BF's non-rooted DPro and he's having this issue as well.
Looks like the best, and only, fix may be to root and add that app from the market?
Upon covering the sensor at the top the light does come back on, but only for a second or two. Have messed with the display and brightness and power settings but nothing seems to keep the backlight on when typing.

[Q] Proximity sensor on all the time

Hello everyone ... Can someone help me please... I have my s5 for a few days ... And now I saw that my proximity sensor Is always on, I can see the red light even if my phone is locked... And I'm worried that is using my battery I got 5 or 6 h display max with 1 day of usage
Proximity sensor doesn't utilize a red light. Maybe you have a malfunctioning notification light?
Notification light is on the left. Proximity and light sensors are on the right.

It is on the right side... I barrely see it... But it s there and I know when is not on..... And trust me I'm not a NOOB
U can see it just in very low light.... At night )
Yup! Have noticed that with other phones too. It will be a very faint glow that you can see in the dark. I've seen it on at times too but it hasn't affected function so I never gave it a second thought

This is not a concern. The proximity sensor is an infra red sensor and emits a faint amount of visible red light. All of the S5's do that, it's normal and it is no barrier to great battery life.
If you did a forum search you would find existing threads where this has been asked and answered before. The glow probably represents the average bias current as the sensor periodically polls it's environment every x ms. In any event it's normal and expected behaviour.

Thank you man... I was just worried because after I restart, it doesn't remain on and it s ok for some time (I think) ... And I can't see that infrared light... But after some time it stay on always )
After a fresh reboot, there may not be any apps using the proximity sensor. But a lot of apps do make use of it, so as soon as you use an app that does, the sensor will start monitoring and there will be that glow.
I don't think that the sensor uses much battery in most apps as mine is usually on. Even my screensaver makes use of the sensor and I still get great battery life.
