so i bought an epic as a tester phone for real cheap so i could run apps there to see if they work, but i also wanted to use it as a back up to my evo, so i had my friend change the number the phone recieves from and the secondary number and all that and now its trying to activate, but my question is, if i let it activate will it act like a replacement and send my other phone offline or will they both run from my account?
cause your other phone to go offline. Just as if you were activating a new phone on the same account.

Not if your are on a shared plan and have 2 numbers? It will be two separate lines on 1 account. Maybe i don't understand your questions-

What is this for? I have a family plan and my number isn't eligible for an upgrade so i used one of the other numbers on the plan to get the $250 discount. If i call them will they cancel the number i used and activate the sim that came with it as that number?
Just confused as i've ordered many phones from many different sites and never had to call to activate... just popped my sim card in and was good to go.
i have a family plan and ordered on one of my other lines that was eligible for an upgrade (so i did the same thing you did). And i did call them to activate the phone on the number i ordered it on, and nothing on my account was changed.
Normally i would just pop in my sim and go, however i didnt want to risk them coming back to me and billing me another 250 for not activating the phone. I could just be paranoid, but ive never ordered an upgrade from a 3rd party and didnt want to risk it.

Was it an automated line or you talked to someone? Guess it doesn't matter since it doesn't do anything, i'm just curious and patiently waiting for my device...
Also i'm excited that you got the streak as well and look forward to your great work! I used to run your Death roms on my Tilt!
Same Situation as me
I ordered the streak on a secondary phone on my plan to use on my primary line. I was puzzled just like you. I called and told them up front what was going on and they said no problem and they activated the phone on my primary line. I think there is a minimum amount of minutes and you have to set up the right data plan on the phone. I had an N1 on the plan before. They did not object to applying the phone on my primary line.
Ok, so here is my dilemma. I guess I should have read more before buying this phone, but I guess some things you just learn with time.
I LOVE this phone , but due to t-mobile's stupid restrictions I would have to return it. I would rather sell it than wait days for Dell to refund me my money.
I bought the 16GB version off contract and have the receipts and everything it came with.
Everything is still wrapped up and never opened.
The only thing that was removed was the phone and battery. The Keyboard is still covered in plastic.
Now my story: I bought the phone because I was planning to give WP7 a try with the most anticipated phone of the year. And when I had it, I was going to use the line as my main buisness line with my Google Voice. Come to find out, I cannot foward my voicemail to google voice because Flexpay or Even More PLus accounts have that disabled. I called Technical support and begged , they refused. So, at this point the phone has no use to me and I don't want a 2 year contract. I Know it is crazy to sell a phone for something that little. But I have 2 phones on my google voice, and when it forards the voicemail from my first phone, it rings my Dell Venue Pro phone instead of going to voicemail, hence a loop. And I do not want T-Mobile handling my VM. I want both numbers to be independent of each other.
Not to bore anyone.
I am selling the phone Brand New as it came. All I Want is the $499 OR BEST OFFER. I don't care for the tax.
Price includes shipping. Pretty much my loss here.
For those in Houston, TX or Katy, TX you can meet me and pick it up.
Please text or PM me. 832-413-3951. First come, First Serve.
Or let me know what you think.
Thanks.

Maybe I don't *fully* understand what you're saying, but there is a switch in Google Voice that says, "When forwarded from XXX number, send to GV VM."
I use this switch to allow my GV number to ring to my DVP, but if I forward it back (decline the call, etc), it forwards back to GV, and GV knows to send it to VM - not loop...
Is this what you're trying to do?

Let me explain a little more.
I have a google voice number GG, and I have my regular cell CC ( setup with google Voicemail), and now Flexpay FP ( does not support google voicemail forwarding).
When someone calls my regular # CC, it rings and if I don't pick up, it should send it to google voicemail. But that does not happen, it sends it to my FP number and rings it and ends up sending the call to my Regular T-mobile Voicemail. I don't want that to happen. I want the calls made to my cell, if not answered to be sent to GVoicemail as setup, not forwarded to my other number. I have disabled this with no luck.
And I understand why it is like this and it sucks. See, when calls are being forwarded to google voicemail, it is treated like a regular call dialing GG. And I have set all calls made to GG to be sent to my FP. So, that must be the issue, and since FP does not support GG Voicemail forwarding, it is sent to my regular t-mobile VM.
If you know a work around, I would love to keep my phone , and where can I find this switch in google voice you are taking about?

I dont understand why you couldnt just send it back to dell. its only obvious at this point you're trying to pull some strings.

Believe me , I am pulling no strings. Just that it would have taken a while for Dell to refund me the money. But its easier if I just get the cash or a paypal transfer from someone
Is it available ?

About a few days ago I found a Samsung Intercept for Virgin Mobile.
There were no contacts or anything inside the phone, it was like new.
It did, however, have a phone number already set to it but it couldn't make or receive any calls.
I called Virgin and they said that the only thing I can do is wait for the owner, but that hasn't happened yet and the phone's running out of battery. It hasn't been reported stolen or anything yet.
Is it possible to use a different account on this phone? Or a way to completely reset the phone so I can activate it under a different number or something?
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Hello Everybody,
I recently purchased an Htc Evo Shift which was already flashed to boost. When I added money to the phone for use I realized that the phone had an odd number being that every one i was calling would not pick up on the first few tries thinking that I was a telemarketer. I called boost to change the number to a local area code but after they made the change we encountered a problem. I dont know what the exact code was but it consisted of two pounds , four numbers starting with 3 , and another pound. They repeatedly asked me to press ##3---# to bring up a menu to update the phone so I could use the new phone number. I'm assuming the code was for the incognito because after the process didnt work they asked if i was using the incognito. I simply told them yes and that I would call back to finish the process when i had time. The phone now does not have service or internet until i can get it to recognize the new phone info.
I dont know what to do, if someone could help it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

What she was trying to get you to bring up was the ESPT ( ##3282# ) . That will take you to a Menu that says view or edit. If you press view it will let you view the information. But if you press EDIT, then another Menu comes up that says enter code. This is where your going to need your MSL ( Master Subsidy Lock ) . That will let you enter the Menu, and actually make changes. You can go on the Android Market and download MSL Reader, or just Google it. Then connect your phone to the PC via USB, and load it that way. You can also check THIS THREAD for info.
So, yesterday I said goodbye to Sprint and the account is activated and I have till 1-7-13 to port the number out or they will charge for another month of service rates. I have ordered a Nexus 4 and will be here in 6-7 weeks, patience is a virtue. In the meantime I am using an old flip phone with AT&T pay as you go for $25.00 I want to port my sprint number but, do not have the new phone before 1-7-13 when the account will be closed.
Questions:
1-I ordered a Tmobile prepaid micro sim card and should get it tomorrow. Should I go ahead and activate the sim card and port the number even though I do not have the Nexus 4 yet?
2- If I activate online, can I port the Sprint number online or should I call TMobile to do it?
3-Can I buy a cheap TMobile prepaid phone, activate it and then switch the sim card to the Nexus 4 when it comes in? Doing this will allow me to test TMobile in my area before I get the phone or since it is a cheap phone I should wait to get the beast?
4-What is the advantage of porting the number to Google Voice? If I am possibly going to be testing TMobile and ATT Straight Talk plans for a month each. I do not want to lose my 13 year old phone number and have to notify all my contacts of a new number from either ATT or TMobile.
I am just trying to make a smooth and simple porting of the phone number from Sprint asap since the account will be closed on -7-13 before the Nexus 4 gets to me. Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
It is a bit confusing when the Walmart employee tells me that the TMobile sim cards with the phones they sell are tied to those phones and you can not switch to the Nexus 4. She also told me that the $30.00 plan on TMobile only applies to Walmart purchased phones. When I questioned TMobile on this, they stated that was not true and since I am not buying the phone from Walmart, I can order the TMobile prepaid sim card and activate it online and still get the $30 plan. Then, to call TMobile and they would port my number over.
Thanking in advance,
Ian B
1) Unless you have a phone in which you can activate the MicroSIM card you plan to use in the N4, wait. The setup process asks for an IMEI, and while I don't think it matters, you wouldn't have your Nexus 4's IMEI yet.
2) When you activate the T-Mobile MicroSIM, the process will include having them transfer the number from Sprint. Just have your Sprint account info handy.
3) The advantage of using Google Voice is that it adds some flexibility in how it's used, without using "minutes". This is popular on, for example, the $30/month T-Mobile plan, since it only has 100 minutes of talk.

AJ;
Thanks for the info but, as you can see the account will close on 1-7-13 before the Nexus 4 gets to me at the end of January 2013. I could get the cheapest prepaid TMobile phone to activate the sim card and get the Sprint phone number ported over before I lose it on 1-7-13 which I do not want to lose.
What do you think on buying the cheapest prepaid TMo phone idea?
Thanks again,
Ian B

You shouldn't need a device to activate your sim card through Straight Talk (i'm on it now with AT&T). The only thing it will ask for is your straight talk SIM Card information and the phone number you want to port.
https://www.straighttalk.com/secure/Activate - Select "Transfer my number from another company"
It will walk you through the steps, I did this with both my wife and I account (both coming from Verizon).
Porting for my wife took only 30 minutes while mine took close to 8 hours. It will still port even though you dont have it in a device. From what I remember you can only confirm the port was successful is when you use the SIM (it shows as HOME instead of No Service).
If you want to ask straight talk directly, best to use their twitter feed as they respond better there.

Thanks Ibegary;
I will hold off on buying a prepaid phone then. I called earlier Straight Talk customer service and had a hard time understanding them. I don't use Twitter but, your link is pretty self explanatory. I think is the same issue with TMobile. They just shipped my sim card today and once it comes in, I can port the number to them without having a device and activate the sim card. They told me I have 120 days to get money into the account.

About Verizon -- Do you know how the Verizon billing process comes into play. I am currently with Verizon, on contract. Waiting and preparing for the N4. Received a shipping confirmation today, for the Straighttalk ATT microsim card. Will I need to call Verizon and cancel my service, after ST ports the number from my Verizon account? If the number is ported in the middle of the Verizon billing cycle, do I get nicked for the whole billing period? Or, are Verizon charges suspended, automatically, once ST takes control of the number? I would like to avoid the charge for a whole month of Verizon, if the N4 arrives on or shortly after the start of a new billing period. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

First question: Do you plan to use Google Voice?
If NO, then hold off on activating the SIM until you have your phone in hand.
If YES, then this is the perfect time to port your number to Google Voice from Sprint (as I did) so you get to keep the same phone number and use VOIP to make and receive your calls, plus all the benefits of Google Voice. It will take 24 hours exactly until the number port is complete. It will take a day or two more until you can receive text messages through Google Voice. When you finally have your Nexus 4 phone in hand, activate the SIM per the included instructions in conjunction with the IMEI number on the new phone. You DO NOT want to port your number to T-mobile during the activation, just get a new number. You can quickly forget about this new number. There are guides already on how to setup VOIP with Google Voice + Pbxes.org using SipDroid to do all the configuration for you, then you can delete the SipDroid app off your phone. You DO want to install CSipSimple on your phone and configure it to connect to Pbxes.org (which is already wired to use GTalk and Google Voice by now). CSipSimple will integrate with the android stock dialer, or you can use CSipSimple as your default dialer. One more thing, I got tired of Android asking me if I want to make a VOIP call using Pbxes or Cell (T-mobile minutes) that inside CSipSimple I made a rule that ALL calls be made by Pbxes. So, I just use my phone as normal and CSipSimple makes the call and answers my calls. It really really is wonderful when I look at my T-mobile minutes, but none have been used and I get great call quality.

A couple of questions, Straight talk and TMobile prepaid do not handle mms, correct? If that is so, can I get mms through google voice?
Your set up sounds too complicated for me and I only average about 40-60 mins of talk time per month so not worried about the 100 mins in the $30 TMob plan.
Thanks,
Ian B
P.S.---if someone in the Austin, Cedar Park area w a Nexus 4 with ST or TMob prepaid, send me a pm so you can call me and I can pick your brain on this stuff.

Do not call Verizon in fact you do not need to talk to Verizon at all
What will happen is straight talk will take your account number and billing pin and start the port for you with Verizon once the port is complete Verizon will close the line for the account
About 2 to 3 weeks later you will receive your final bill from Verizon that will include any ETF charges and any credit for the remaining of your billing cycle where there was no usage
So for example if your billing cycle is on the 29th and you ported on the 14th then you'll be charged for 14 days of service and then you'll be credited the other 14 or 15 days
Hope this helps
