ENDED {Stock Rom} Odin JF6 with 3 button fix - Captivate Android Development

If you are one of the unfortunate few who have the three button fix disabled and need to go back to stock 2.1 use this instead of Designgears original Odin one click.
Put the PDA.tar and PIT files in the appropriate places in odin and flash in download mode.
Drivers
Windows 64
Windows 32
PDA file
Took down the PDA.TAR file from my personal website as it is hogging my bandwidth. If anyone wants to mirror it or upload it, please send me a pm and i will give you a link to dl it.
PIT file and Odin multi flasher attached to post
Thanks to joehall4th for helping me test this

Anyone with the three button disabled, please confirm that this is working for you as well.
I tested this on my phone with the 3button disabled, and the 3 button was working after the flash back to 2.1

Is the JF6 firmware with this the same as that on samfirmware.com? And why is this version superior to the one click version? If the three button method to get into download mode is disabled, one has to try one of the other methods to get there (adb reboot download, volume buttons + usb plugin, phone + ! + computer to download mode, etc.). Once in download mode somehow, how does a flash from this version help more? Not doubting, just need clarifications.

This is the JF6 firmware from samfirmware.com.
This version is not superior to the one click if the three button combo came enabled with your phone.
This is for people whose phones didn't come with the three button combo. If you flash this from download mode, the three button combo should work for you.
Here is the problem. DG has put out a fix for the three button combo. If you have a problem updating a rom, or you need to flash back to stock for some reason, the Odin one click will disable the fix. This will work the same as the Odin one click, but it keeps the three button intact (it should). It should also enable the three button fix if yours has never worked.
If you flash with the one click Odin and then brick your phone trying to flash rom manager recovery, or trying to flash another rom, that's it, your phone is bricked. If you have three button working and brick your phone, you can still use the keys to flash back to a working rom. This should help keep the three button intact at all times.
If your three button isn't working, you shouldn't be flashing roms, or anything really. If you're going to, you need to get the three button working(IMO).

My three button combo worked from day one, and flashing the one click did not affect it adversely. If dg has put out a fix for those with bad phones. Wouldn't it be adequate to simply apply just the fix?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

No.
DG's fix is wiped when using his Odin one click. That's why this Odin flash was needed.
If yours worked from day one, this isn't for you.

Good work C3P0LOL! I'm glad someone was able to put my idea into action, finally. This will definitely put me more at ease flashing back to stock, not having to worry about it failing. Also I don't know if you did it on purpose or if it was just luck but the fact that it flashes the SBL first is a nice touch.

I'm glad you like it! This should help those of us without the three button rest a little easier. The sbl.bin flashing first is clutch!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

Thanks for this. I haven't tried it out, but it's what us poor 3 button lame owners need!

+1 for this.
As mentioned earlier, you either have some cool telepathic abilities or simply just a genius for having thought of this. I remember going into DG's thread about this as well, and I remember you being actively helping out over there, how did you stumble upon this? I have the JF6 one click Odin, but i was not aware that by using the one click, it would delete sbl.bin. It makes sense, because on his OP it even states that the process may have to be repeated everytime a new Rom is flashed (unless of course the Rom being flashed already contains the enabled sbl). <----That is for those who NEVER had the 3-button function out of the box.
"...you cant lose it if you already have it...."
EDIT: Newb Question: Isn't there a version of the one click Odin somewhere in XDA that already has this included as part of the flash? Or did i have too much to drink already? lol
EDIT 2: please disregard my last Edit. SMH

This was a concern to some of us without the three button combo in the irc chat. I'm glad I was able to build a working version of this for us. Enjoy it guys!

sorry for the noob question but how do i use this any tutorial for this?

Download the odin file, the pit file and the pda file.
Open odin.
connect phone to usb and put it in download mode.
Put the pit file where it says pit in odin.
put the pda file where it says pda in odin.
click start and wait for it to finish.
This will set your phone back to 2.1 stock with three button enabled.
Use at your own risk.

Hey C3....
Newb Q: The original files that are found in the PDA, or any other Odin (including one click) for stock JF6....are they straight from Samsung or is it a modified version of the stock JF6?
The reason i ask, is because i have 2 cappys, one Bone stock and the other has been modded + rooted + lag fixxed + flashed and then back to stock and comparing the 2 (stock-wise) the modded cappy seems to have even more lag. <--------true story. lol

They are straight from Samsung, they might be leaked, but they come from Samsung. These stock kernels and files are pure 100% stock, except this one has the modified sbl.bin in it.

Yup, what he said. THe sbl.bin is even stock, it's just from a stock phone that works.

Sweet! Thanks Dem.
For the record, i flashed this with Odin and I now have 3-button recovery/ download that did NOT come with my Cappy (out of the Box) AND my Batch Number is 1008.

I'm glad this was able to help!

Bricked phone trying to downgrade from froyo 2.2

So i upgraded my phone with the leaked froyo update.zip and everything went well except for the gps. So i followed the how to "unbrick/bring back to stock" thread so i could downgrade my phone to the di18 firmware. I used odin, the s1_odin20100512.pit and the d700.zimage.stock file. I did not want to wipe out everything, i just wanted to downgrade the kernal back to stock.
When i tried flashing on odin, it failed. now when i try turning on my i get the phone icon with the exclamation mark in the triangle. I wanted to call my girlfriend after flashing my phone but now i cant . Please help me save my phone!

Thanks for the tip!
Your gonna want to flash the di18.tar in "pda" with odin and only reboot checked, no pit needed. That gets the di18 firmware back, and the only way.. kernel has nothing to do with it..
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I am about to do this too.. and dont want to wipe the data only get back to di18 to get the gps working.. so in that case:
1. I dont need pit file at all
2. which .tar to choose? not the255 mb file?
Mine failed the first time to. I followed the directions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032
I tried it a second time but used the victory pit that came with odin 1.61 and it worked. I think in the instructions their using an older version of odin.
I'm not in anyway an expert and you may not even need to use a pit like another poster said. It worked for me though. When I got done the phone rebooted and it showed it having the eclair d07 build from there it updated itself to dI18.
I believe you still need the pit file. If you are going back to stock DI18, than use this:
Stock Files
The one you were trying to use was the kernel I believe.
Here is the pit file you need:
pit file
I have flashed back to stock about 14 times and I have used these two files successfully every time.
yeah ive done it te same wasy that swanysto has done it also a lot. it always works for me to. i know some sa you don't need the pit unless just doing a kernel but i always use it. just my 2 cents
pull the SD card out before you go into download mode (not just pull it out, make sure to push down and let it pop up to remove it).

[STOCK ROM]Use for going back to stock before flashing a custom ROM with minimum risk

\\\\\\\\\\\\warning///////////
It seems that phones batch 1010 and newer dont like this method of going back to stock. If you're caught in a boot loop try flashing the official froyo for Captivate. One source can be found here
\\\\\\\\\\\\warning///////////
Disclaimer: Anything you do with the content found in this thread and the content that this thread links to, is your own choice and you are fully responsible for what happens to your phone.
This method is for ATT Captivate ONLY!
We all know that there is a very often used method of going back to stock found here. The problem is that the ODIN OneClickDownloader contains both boot loaders and param.lfs.
These files, if not flashed correctly or if the connection between phone and PC drops while flashing them, can brick your phone for good. The reason why would this happen is because of unreliable USB drivers.
The purpose of this thread is to give flash addicts/custom ROMs users a more secure way to go back to stock - JF6 - without risking bricking their devices.
Do not use this if you want to send your phone back to ATT or Samsung for warranty!
Use this if you want to go back to stock before flashing a custom ROM.
Use this without worries if you changed your boot screen image or if you flashed the secondary boot loader which allows you to enter download/recovery with key combos.
This package contains NO BOOTLOADERS and NO PARAM.LFS!
Download the package from here
Download Samsung Kies and install it. It will install the latest Samsung drivers.
How to:
Remove sdcard and SIM card from the phone
Extract JF6_secure.zip somewhere.
Boot in Download Mode (see below)
Run Odin3 v1.3.exe
Click on the button PDA
Choose JF6_secure.tar.md5
Click start.
Wait and do not unplug cable until it is finished
How to boot in download mode:
There are 3 methods:
Method 1: (ADB) - from recovery or normally booted with usb debugging on)
Open a cmd prompt/console/shell
adb shell
adb reboot download
Method 2: (KEY COMBO)
Remove the battery, sim card, sdcard if you have one
Insert the battery
Hold both Volume buttons
Plug in the USB cable and continue holding both Volume buttons
Method 3: (JIG)

If moderators believe this does not belong in development, I have nothing against to moving it to General. However, I think the community would appreciate if it would remain here.
Works fine
I used this to flash the latest Continuum 3.5 and everything worked fine. Thanks!
you may want to include the info "FOR ATT i897" phones.

Success !!
Just used this to go back to stock prior to flashing another ROM. Worked with no problems and only took about 5 minutes. Will use this from now on to avoid the possible brick.
Again, really appreciate you providing this for us.
Still not sure why one would use this over the DG Odin? Maybe someone can clarify?
Here is my scenario. I'm currently on Cognition 3.04 which I flashed from stock. It was my first ROM so I didn't have to go back or do anything with Odin. Now, if I want to flash a new ROM, I plan on using Odin, jut not sure which one???

on top of the read phail, i would add that you dont need to flash stock between roms, you only need to do it after a failed flash or a "no wipe" rom that depends on original files, **which they dont do anymore**. All the good full roms do a wipe before flashing. so there is no point going to stock! hope that clearifies!

I thought there was more to it than people having bad usb ports. You're saying if one does have a bad usb port and flashing gets interrupted, their phone would be bricked with the DG Odin, but with this Odin it would somehow be ok?

If you own a computer you definitelly heard about BIOS and you heard that if the BIOS gets screwed (CMOS chip burned or bad BIOS update) you can pretty much throw the motherboard.
Well, imagine that your phone has 3 BIOSs
primary bootloader - boot.bin
secondary bootloader - sbl.bin
hidden partition for system images - param.lfs
and that they are dependent on each other and if one of them gets screwed you wont be able to get to recovery and download mode.
The one click downloader contains all these 3. My package does not.
Get the point?

Updating to 2.3.4 firmware - if you don't want to root

HI
This is Just for People who want to flash 2.3.4 firmware or any other firmware but don't want to root their phones like me.
Again All Posts are within XDA and Due Thanks to the OP's and DEVS
I'll Try to be as informative and clear as possible ( Its more for the newbies )
First off all it has been stated this 2.3.4 is leaked and not official
So lets Begin
1. Install latest Kies of samsung > connect your phone and make sure all drivers are Installed and your phones is recognised in Kies > Backup if you wanna
2. Close Kies ( make sure its not running in the system tray) > Install ODIN
Get Odin v1.85 from here: http://www.multiupload.com/1RTGSE061G
Just extract Odin folder and keep the odin3.ini file in it.
How to USE ODIN in SECOND POST
3. Download your 2.3.4 Firmware ( or any other firmware you wish to flash)
a) Download Link Stock XXKG1 : http://www.multiupload.com/2EMBQMYF4V (via ficeto) or If you can find other links
and Extract It > you should have four files:
b) CODE_I9100XXKG1_CL349526_REV02_user_low_ship (goes into PDA section)

Flashing Firmware with Odin
1. Just download the firmware version you want from above and extract the .tar file in the archive and save it somewhere
2. Reboot your phone to download mode.
To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .
You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!
3. Start Odin
4. Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar file that you extracted in step 1
If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin
5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
Anyone ask about .pit file is a moron
Should look like this screenshot
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5705/odinm.jpg
If the package has 3 files it should look like this:
http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/8290/odinxm.jpg
Regardless of firmware version it's still the same methodology
6. Connect the USB cable and wait for the ID:COM section to turn yellow
7. Click start to flash
8. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device, it will reboot when it finishes.
It will not wipe your phone if you flash as recommended
Will I loose all my data and programs?
let me be the first to thank you
i am coming from iphone4 so all these terms and apps are new to me, and while i can use the search function a lot of times it takes several pages of read-thru to piece together what you have put in 1 concise post
btw i love the SG2 and android platform, steve jobs can toss my salad
If you flash any 2.3.3 you don't seem to loose any data... but yeah updating to 2.3.4 you do loose data and programs.
I didn't have many programs, but market restored most of them from me, and good to backup first.
Also kies gives me that I can't update firmware maybe cause its the latest one and it don't recognise the firmware.
Please be aware this is a leaked version, so if you want you could wait for the official one, I so far had no problems whatsoever
Just one noob question, SII being my first android phone, i assume that in order not to lose warranty you still have to use USB jig to reset rom counter if something bad happens, right ?

Is it possible to use another CSC from older stock releases together with this? ie, flashing this, and then after that flashing the multi CSC "MultiCSC OXXKF1" for instance? There is one thing I don't understand how to do. Before I flash my firmware with the new 2.3.4 version, I would like to take a copy of my existing firmware from my phone first and save it to my PC. So that I have the option of putting my phone back to how it was if for some reason I want to revert my phone. I understand that I would need to buy a jig to reset the update counter.
So is it possible to save my existing firmware to my PC first?
I did try looking at the download page but there were so many different countries and carrier versions that I found it confusing. I am stock KF3 uk unbranded O2 still running 2.3.3
Thanks
Thank you tfn. Great instructions, I am loving the new update.

[Q] Please help w/ getting back to stock.

I don't want this post to be too long but I need some help here, let me sum it up.
I purchased a secondhand Note3 off Ebay to replace my Note2. I got it an it appears to me that it's been "modified", I see this SafeStrap thing at startup and a SuperSU App. Once I saw this I decided to hold off on putting my sim card in and have just been using it on wifi. I used the "RootChecker" app to see if it's rooted and it tells me yes. System info tells me the phone is running 4.3. I know not much of this rooting, flashing, roms, kernel scene. So:
- My goal is to get this phone back to stock setting, no SafeStrap or root of any kind if it's there, so the phone operates and is just as it would be if purchased new from Verizon. What is the easiest way to go about doing this?
From there I might actually think of trying my hand at rooting this thing since it's a secondhand device, but I first want to eliminate any modifications made to the phone by the previous owner, and if I do root I want to start from ground zero and do it myself.
I apologize for my ignorance in this but could really use the help and hopefully learn more about this world along the way since it seems everyone who roots swears by it, I must be missing something but for now my objective is a clean slate with this device
Thanks in advance.

Thanks so much. Following this will remove safestrap, unroot, and basically undo any changes made to the phone and bring it back to 4.3 out of the box from Verizon status? If so, I'll give this a go tomorrow.

Yes it will.
And since you're new to this, even tho it is a straight - forward procedure, read and make sure you understand what you are doing before proceeding. Ask additional questions if necessary. And let us know how it goes!

Thanks guys, hopefully I can find some time tomorrow to tackle this.
One question just reading through the guide quickly, for step 2, downloading the stock image, I assume I want 4.3 for retail? IF so, I see 3 options: Official VRUBMJE 4.3, Official VRUBMJ7 4.3, and Official VRUBMI9 4.3. Does it matter which one? I am assuming they are just different releases of 4.3 but not sure, or if I could pick one that would work better than another.
I'll copy and paste the info below if you don't know off-hand what I am referring to.
Thanks again! :good:
Section 1: How to return to Stock Android 4.3 and recover from a Soft Brick.
Take Note If your Retail Locked N3 took the OTA update, you can not revert back to older firmware. Verizon now has Samsung blacklist the older firmwares bootloader after each update. If you try and flash older firmware the device will softbrick.
Step 1: Download and install Odin to a Windows based PC- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2189539
Step 2: Download a stock Odin image and Pit file to the PC. If Odin does not recognize the file then extract it with a program such as 7zip.
RETAIL Locked N3 Restore Files
Official VRUCNC4 4.4.2- http://samsung-updates.com/details/2...0VVRUCNC4.html(Only use this if you took the OTA or do not mind being stuck on stock...there is currently no root method available yet!)
Official VRUBMJE 4.3- http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319196106(Retail locked N3 only)
Official VRUBMJ7 4.3- http://d-h.st/IEW(Retail Locked N3 ONLY)
Official VRUBMI9 4.3- https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B26p...LWs/edit?pli=1(Retail Locked N3 ONLY)
Developer Edition N3 Restore Files
DE_VRUBMJE 4.3-http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319196402
-------------
HLTE_32gb.PitFile- http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23159073880936457(works for bothe DE and Retail devices)
Step 3: Power device off, hold the volume down/home/power keys until you see a yellow triangle, then press the volume up key to access "odin or download mode".
Step 4: Open Odin and connect the oem usb cable from pc to device. The driver should automatically install( it did for me on windows 7 64bit). There should also be a "comport number" in upper left hand corner of Odin indicating communication between the pc & device.
*If the drivers do not automatically install, then manually install the drivers in link and proceed to the next step. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2038555
Step 5: Click on the Pit function of Odin and select Pit file you downloaded in Step:2.
Step 6: Click on the AP/PDA(depends on Odin version) function of Odin. Select the stock 4.3 image you downloaded in step 2, then select start. This operation should take less than 8 minutes before Odin will say pass/reset.
Step 7: Your device should boot back up into factory stock 4.3 Android! However, these stock Odin files do not wipe data. To wipe data, power the device off, press and hold the volume up/home/power buttons until the samsung logo appears. The device will boot into recovery and from there you will need to wipe data/factory reset, then reboot.

The mje should do fime. It's the latest jb stock firmware. Once you boot up into that, your phone should promt you to accept the new kk update.
I know you do not want or care about root, but I'll say this anyways. Once you've accepted the new ota update, there's no way to root and there's no way to get back to jb. Like I said, probably not a concern of yours... just throwing it out there.

Hey guys, in the process to this and stuck at these steps:
Step 5: Click on the Pit function of Odin and select Pit file you downloaded in Step:2.
Step 6: Click on the AP/PDA(depends on Odin version) function of Odin. Select the stock 4.3 image you downloaded in step 2, then select start. This operation should take less than 8 minutes before Odin will say pass/reset.

Following step 2 gave me one file, which I believe is the 4.3 image ( the file is 1.28GB). What exactly is the Pit file I am missing and how do I get it?
Thanks
u shouldnt need it. I think its a fix for a bootloop. I've returned my note 3 to stock many of times and havent had the use for a pit file

Thanks guys, giving this a go now... will report back.
Another hangup, clicking on AP in Odin it doesn't seem to recognize the image file I downloaded. It seems to be looking for .tar, .md5, .smd, .gz, and .tgz . The file I got from the guide is .7z
Am I doing something wrong?

You need to download a program called 7zip and use that to extract the md5.

Sounds like you're all set to go. Just add the md5 to the PDA section and click start.

I clicked start and I am 99% sure it's frozen, I don't see anything that would indicate that it's working and it's nearly 1 hour later.
Is it safe to try and power down the phone and/or exit Odin and try again or could that screw something up?

[Q] New Problem! Need help!

Hey guys,
So I tried to take my phone to the Samsung experience store today to try and fix my previous issues. the person tried to reset the firmware on it because I am not getting a baseband or IMEI at all (shows baseband unkwon and IMEI null/null). I may have caused this myself by the way when i was playing around with different firmwares and did not back up EFS ever.
Anyway, Now i am stuck with this:
SGH-I337 galaxy S4
Version: 4.4.4
Build: I337UCUFNJ4
Baseband Unknown....
I am not sure what I need to do in order force IMEI back onto phone I tried rooting and playing with EFS, but the phone seems to not get rooted either via motochopper.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT ?!? Need some if your brilliant minds here please.
By the way, the person at Samsung checked by IMEI to make sure it wasnt blacklisted or reported stolen or anything so that is not the issue.

Thank you for this, I will try it.
But after I root, what would be the next step?

Thanks all!! Hoping for some serious help lol

Okay well everyone else is saying never flash a pit file but I ran into the same problem and I actually had to flash a pit file BUT you're only able to fo it on MK2 SO FIRST odin back to a fresh install of NB1 uncheck the reboot option in odin after the firmware finishes and says reset on odin unplug youre cable remove youre battery and stick it back in then use the VOLUME UP HOME AND POWER KEY you will see an android with a progress bar GET READY after its done the phone will reboot hold up the volume and home it will reboot into android recovery and then use you're volume keys scroll down to wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition after that hit reboot system now we're done with that part this is the second part PART 2 after the phone fully boots up and youre at the welcome screen power off the device go into download mode volume down home and power this is where we are able to DOWNGRADE TO MK2 ITS ONLY POSSIBLE FROM NB1 TO MK2 ONLY HEAD OVER TO THIS THREAD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663545 and download two files JFLTE_USA_ATT_16G.pit that's going to be youre pit file and then you need the MK2 firmware AP_I337UCUEMK2_.tar.md5 I'll give you some time to download them it takes a little time........Okay we ready? Good now load up the two files the pit file in the PIT and the Firmware in the AP NOTE you will see now the repartition box checked LEAVE IT its because of the pit file that its checked! Now we are going to uncheck the auto reboot like we did earlier after Odin says phone reset unplug cable remove battery stick it back in and same thing volume up home power then wipe data factory reset and cache partition then reboot phone should boot up to MK2 now the only thing thats not working at this point is the wifi dont worry about that go through the setup process dont worry about any of youre information we dont care at this point go into settings and check and see if all of youre stuff is back baseband imei everything if it is then great thats what we wanted now we can go back into download mode and use odin and upgrade back to NB1 WE'RE DONE! Congratulations everything should be working properly you're now on NB1 you can take OTA to NJ4 if you want or stay where you're at install safestrap and a custom rom I hope all has went well for you and everything works out!

I will def. try this! For the first part, I am already on NB1, so I need to do it again? OR can I skip straight to step 2? (P.s, when i flashed NB1, I didnt follow this whole procedure ( flashing, then resetting etc.) i simply jus flashed it as per Odin.
You can try as-is
You may not have to re-do it, you could probably go ahead and just skip to part two I just always recommend doing a clean flash but if it doesn't work then just simply go back and try that
