I heard if you buy an Android phone through a third party reseller you only get 1GB throttled internet instead of 3GB. But I read you can make a call to convince them to change it.
Anyone ever done this and got any tips?
From what I heard they put you on the unlimited internet booster, which is only 1GB, and not web and walk plus (3GB) if you order through a reseller.
Well, I ordered it from E2 save.
I can't link or post images yet: i.imgur.com/Ku7aX.png
Notice they give you the option to add "Unlimited Web Booster" for £5 a month? Could I use that to convince them?
Thanks.
edit: It also says unlimited on their site: e2save.com/mobile-phone/contract/samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S.html?tariffcode=D25TEAPR09
edit2: T-Mobiles FUP:

Can you order over the phone on e2save?
eidt3: I actually did join them over the phone, as the phone is why I joined them. See what I mean?
Anyone know?
I heard saying people on the forums managed to get upgraded for free works. Guess it makes the employee think his friends are letting them have it so he should too.
When I signed up for Sim only £15 month plan they put me on web + walk plus automatically, even though phone was from another seller. Didn't believe it at first, but sure enough it showed up there on my bill. Tbh, I think the girl I spoke to got confused - I've not queried it since!
I got mine upgraded, but then again I was already a customer before they changed the wording on the fup back in July 2010.
However, they didn't want to upgrade me at first, and the best tactic I found may well work for you too:
Basically, you have to complain bitterly that the internet access is extremely slow and laggy, and that you have tested it and it seems that even tho your phone shows you have a hsdpa connection, you are only getting 3G speeds (~350kpbs) at best and it seems you are being throttled.
Then tell them that you have read all their t&c's and there is no mention AT ALL that the 1GB FUP is throttled, so therefore they need to rectify this situation, as the hsdpa device you got with your contract is being crippled without good reason - tell them that you accept that there is a 1GB FUP, but you feel you should be allowed to download that 1GB as quickly as your device is capable of.
Keep pushing and escalate to their line manager if necessary. Worked for me and at least one other person.

Thanks I'll try that.
I'm on unlimited internet booster, but get HSDPA speeds - 1900kbps down, 530kbps up...
For my first month (Jul-Aug) I was on web'n'walk because of a ****-up, then back to normal 'internet booster'. Noticed no difference in quality of service.
And I only just about scrape the 1GB limit. But then I've got wi-fi at home. Mind you, now I've got 2.2 on my phone and Flash 10.1, who knows
I bought from a reseller as well.
Oh yeah when you people managed to upgrade to 3GB, did you get to choose another booster as well?
How do you test your speed?
[email protected]
Send email explaining that you have slow hsdpa speeds and you have read on terms and conditions that every android should have 3gb fup.
Give them your phone number to contact you (say that you would like to speak with them) in 24hrs they should call you back with everything on as it should be.
In response to post above. No I didn't get the booster but I'll probably ask for it in few weeks.
Pointing that I've read on internet that people when ordering this offer could have a booster as well with 3gb fup

Worth trying. I did it 2 months a go. Depending on when you activated your phone and when this rule went live if you hurry up you might actually speak with someone that does not know about it. Or you just bought the phone before this was announced...

O.K. Found an app called Xtremelabs Speedtest. It tells me that on GPS with H showing I have 287Kb/s download and upload of 22.9Kb/s.
Is this what it should be ?

So I am a bit down then
On tmobile you will get max 2mbit up and 600kbit down (confirmed with tmobile tech support).
I think o2 has got the fastest one and that is 7 mbit.
However, I also use giffgaff, its pay and go, or something like simplicity on o2 where you have to top up every month and quit any time.
The give you 4 mbit down and 2 mbit up and really unlimited broadband with no fup.
All that is because there isn't any customer service and everything you bed sorting out you do on forums....
(if you are going to try it as a reference please put firewire)

Got my phone now. On speed test i got around 300Kb/s.
Noob question - how do I see how much data I'm allowed? lol
edit:19Kb/s up but I was running in the background.
Thanks everyone it worked. Got my texts too.
As i work for T-Mobile i should not say this but if you go into your local store and tell them you are getting a message saying you are at 80% of your download limit and you should be getting 3GB so why do you get this message? they should look at your account and see no wnw+ soc and just add it as they cant see where you got it.

Here's the deal.... I have a T-Mobile Dash, and my wife has an old Nokia phone. We have a family plan with shared minutes. Her phone is eligible for a discounted upgrade, but my line is not. I'm wanting to upgrade the phone on "her line", give it to me, and then give my old phone to her (which she doesn't use much). Make sense?
So.... T-Mobile is telling me that if I upgrade the phone on her line, we'll have to have a data package on that line for the duration of the contract. Wha?? She hardly uses the phone, and certainly doesn't need/want a data package. My line already has a data package that will work with the myTouch phone.
Is T-Mobile telling me the truth here? Am I going to be stuck ordering a 2nd data package that I don't want/need?
Thx.
Yip
There's probably nothing you can do to get around that requirement for now because the web site is very strict about those rules. Wait until the phone comes out and buy one in person at a T-Mobile store and they can get you set up the way you're trying to do it no problem.
T-Mobile has gone to mandatory data packages when you upgrade to certain high end phones. It has been set up with no way around it, even in store. I hope I am wrong, but doesn't look good from my seat.
That's why I bought the Google Ion instead of waiting for the myTouch 3G.
Well.... I don't need to tell you that I'm pretty unhappy about it I've been with T-Mobile since before they were T-Mobile (Voicestream, back then), and I think my 9 years of being a "good customer" deserves a bit better than this. I'm trying to pay them for a new phone, and I'm fine with having a data package -- I've had that for years. What I do *not* want is an extra data package that is unnecessary. Quite honestly, they DO have the power to resolve this situation for me, but they're choosing not to.
I'm going to keep pressing them, and I think we all should. I don't really care what "other providers" are doing or have been doing for years. I'm not with another provider, I'm with T-Mobile. If they want to act/price like the other providers, then maybe it's time for me to move along.
if you find a friendly rep at a local store, they maybe willing to do the non-req data, seems that the rec data stick rate is not high atm since it was just introduced in june
Thanks for the replies, folks. After talking with 3 separate reps over there, I finally got to a manager who could *REALLY* help me out! I've ordered the myTouch (which will need a data package to start), but I can them call them and they'll do an IMEI switch and drop one data package for me. Essentially, I'll get the phone at $199 *and* will only need to pay for a single $24.99 data package, rather than two data packages. I'm not sure if everyone can get this "deal", but I was able to work it out, get it documented (with them) and place my order.
Anyone can get that deal. You just have to wait till the phone comes out instead of pre ordering it. I'm a rep in a store and we do this all the time. Pre orders are different mainly because its automated on the website.

Ahh...I read a review that said it has 288. That sucks.
I wonder if you can do the the quick switcharoo get one with data then change phone for another month then call them and let then know you lost the phone and downgrade to the t-web? Or get the phone then change your data plan online to t-web?

Just get the phone with the discounted price, once you get the phone swap it with your wife and let tmobile know that your wife didnt like the phone but you will keep it and you want to move the data plan from her line to yours and that she will keep using her old phone. That's everything you will have to do.
P.S. I'm a TMo Sales Rep
Actually, I didn't even have to be "sneaky" about it. I *knew* that T-Mobile could do this, it was really a matter of their willingness. I was able to speak with a cust svc manager who will "make it all good" after the phone arrives.
New phone ordered on wife's line ($199), will move the phone to my line, data package stays on my line, no data package required on her line. NET = Cost stays the same.
Thanks, T-Mo.

LOL That's what I did to get my G1 when it came out and now that my contract is up, I have no problem getting the myTouch just switch out the sim and I'm done
Anyone know of a way for me to keep my bill at the same price when I get my mytouch 3g. I currently have the tmobile total internet package that cost 19.99 and the 400 text messages for 4.99. I know they had the g1 plan for 24.99 that basically included my services in one but the recently changed it. Would they be able to give that old service or let me just keep my current ones?
Thanks
I can tell you for certain that T-Mobile will lock a minimum $25 data package to the line you upgrade to the MyTouch on for the duration of the new contract. The only way out is to pay full price for the handset after the phone is released on or about the 15th of august. I dont know why you would want to have that much phone without a data plan but that's just me.

plus 1 on this one too. i don't think you'll be able to really enjoy the phone w/o the data. besides your already paying the same thing might as well get the 3g benefit instead of edge!
Hiya,
I've had search through the forum, but nothing specific came up that I found. So pardon me if I am asking an old question. I also checked the link at the top of the forum, but the Wiki links weren't working.
I have just come out of my old contract and was looking at the HD2 as a possible option for a new phone. It has a 'Wifi Router' feature which seems quite unique, but it also hits a grey area in phone contracts.
Would using this feature be classed as 'tethering' or 'tunnelling'? (I think that's what it's called.) Would there be any additional charges from a UK provider such as O2 or Orange? How would they know?
With my old Orange contract I'd often take my SIM card and put it in an unlocked 3G dongle and this would enable me to use my laptop at work to browse webpages and... play Warcraft... Anyway, I never incurred any extra charges with Orange as, I guess, they had no idea that I was doing it.
Would this work in a similar fashion?
Please share your experiences from UK service providers when using this feature. I'm mainly looking at O2 as CPW have an attractive offer of a free phone and just the right amount of minutes and texts for a nice price.
Hi, yes, it's the same as tethering, except that instead of the comp using the phone as a modem, the phone creates its own connection and then shares it, so it's possibly a little harder for 'them' to see what you are doing, as they will still only see a phone rather than a data modem.
O2 have removed the wifi router from their rom, but that is easily replaced by flashing a new rom.
I doubt they will be able to tell what you are doing, certainly not unless they do some pretty hardcore packet inspection, perhaps, however teh fair useage data policies will apply, of course.
i have unlimited data bolt on, so there is probably no less useage when its not acting as a router than when there is!
Personally i wouldn't worry about it.
I'm on O2 and did get a slap on the wrist when I had my phone tethered to my laptop while I spent a couple of nights in hospital. I watched a few 1 hour episodes on BBC iplayer, and I think that pushed me over the 1GB fair usage limit. They sent me a text and a letter, which is fair enough.
However, I'm not sure how they can claim on the one hand that tethering the phone to a laptop is against the terms and conditions of the contract when they advertise the following for the HD2:
"Carry the HTC HD2 in your pocket and you'll never have to worry about finding a Wi-Fi access point for your laptop. Your phone simply connects to superfast 3.5G cellular networks and becomes your personal wireless access point; anytime, anywhere. "

LOL, yet the one I got from O2 has wifirouter removed, nice.
I'm with t-mobile Web&Walk+ £30/month and I've been using my phone as a modem for the last 3 years or so. Usually on a laptop or netbook, all over the UK and EU. I've never really caned it with downloads but have used uploads very heavily but I guess I've stayed within the 'fair usage' policy, whatever that is at the moment. I suppose streaming / p2p / usenet would raise issues but FTP uploads and the like doesn't seem to bother them and if it does they haven't bothered me.
The wireless router on teh HD2 works a treat and it's one less cable/dongle to carry.
Used mine as a wifi router pretty heavily a couple of days ago (500MB in a day, maybe a bit more)... no extra charges showing on my online bill and they would be there by now
If you go with O2, you have to flash to a different ROM from the O2 ROM though... although that's a painless 10 minute proceedure... plus it fixes a few little bugs
Thanks very much for the advice everyone. Really has been helpful.
My new HD2 is on the way and will be here tomorrow. I took out the £7.50 a month bolt-on for unlimited data downloads too, pushing the total to £37.50 (a smidgin over the amount I wanted to pay).
I'm actually more shocked that they accepted me for credit.

I'm using a SE Xperia X1 at the moment, but I did hear O2 have removed the wifi router feature, despite advertsing it (false advertising). I got a HD2 from Virgin and it was great, but had to return it because of the slow download speeds.
I'm looking to upgrade with O2 now that I have ported my number back to them.

Hello,
I didnt know where to put this question but i am considering buying this phone. Does anyone know if it will work with FIDO (Canada)?
Thanks.
It works on Rogers so it should work on Fido as well
Yes, I am using it on fido and it is working perfectly!!
3 things:
1- download the sms time fix (the sms received will be -4hours unless you download this from the marketplace because how rogers/fido does thier time stamping)
2- take name display out as some reported that it doesn't play nice with atrix when you receive a call from a landline. (I never have that problem because noone calls me from landline)
3 - I am on the AT&T atrix and it will warn me when i reboot the phone that I am on roaming network, once you click the notification, your phone does not complain
I am on Rogers with the ATT Atrix. I just had to load the APN settings and now I'm good, data and calls are perfect.
HungryEel, I did not test sms, but I will look into your fix.
It WILL work with fido I brought the ATT from US and unlock it. Now I am using it in Canada with Fido. Really great run H+
I'm on Rogers and didn't need any SMS fix. I did call in to ask for "name display" to be "excluded" from my account though - this fixed the Pay Phone listing from coming up on incoming calls though.
+1 worked fine on Fido... unfortunately when you unlock this phone it voids the bell warranty so i have to go through the Motorola service centre in Richmond...

Hey Guys, since this is a topic about using in canada on rogers/fido network, I have two questions.
where did ya'll get the phone unlock from? and if someone can tell me how much it would cost?
and does anyone know if the 6GB dataplan from rogers/fido still possible to get?
i know for sure that Android eats up the data very quickly, i have opted for 1 gb data from rogers and I am always either almost finished with or over the data. i like the Atrix, am definitely picking up the phone by this saturday. Don't want to carry around 2 phones, if the 6gb plan is not available, thinking of leaving rogers as it is too expensive.
any suggestions? help much appreciated.
I used Cellunlock.com there are some coupons floating around for 50% off.
For your Rogers plan, you really should read this thread. I had a crappy plan and after reading that thread and doing my homeworks, I called retention 3 times and ended up with a ridiculously nice plan. From what I know, the 6Gb plan is dead and the only way to get one is to have a grandfathered corporate plan.
How are you using so mutch data ? you should try using wifi ... (or opera mini)
Oh and don't forget to call retention, maybe they can do something for you.

Thanks a lot for the info. I will try CellUnlock.com.
I will call Rogers Retention people and see what happens. I have tried that trick in past and have got response such as "Oh you want to cancel your plan, sure, pay the money to us and F... O..." basically. Hence I am a little hesitant. But hey, there is no reason why I shouldn't try calling them again.
Why do I use it so much? Cuz my job requires me to... I travel through GTA a lot, and because I have a smartphone, I use it for pretty much everything from checking my emails to making phone calls to use it as a GPS.

read the thread, if you are into a contract, there is a new rules: they can only charge you what you own them on your subsidised phone.
use a line like "I really like your service, but since it's SOOO mutch cheaper elsewere, there is no reason for me to stay..."

To add to this, remind the CSR that you want to be compelled to stay but in such a competitive market place you need to look at all avenues (the mitigating factor being what you pay, you want a better plan for what you pay!).
Do make sure to up sell the benefits of staying with your current provider and they'll happily recline, making small talk and keeping the discussion constructive and positive. They'll "review" things and find either a feature they can add, a discount that can be applied, etc. Just remain optimistic and act as though you're so torn between sticking with them or going with a risky new provider.
This usually seems to yield good results with me. I've worked in Retention departments and can sniff a promo hopper from a mile away. But if you're a nice promo hopper, whatever, I'll give you a good deal. Just be polite and a good sport. They'll try hooking you up where they can. Usually..
(if not, tell them thanks and that you'll call back after some review)
Thank you so much for the input guys... Real Helpful tips... I will try all the options mentioned above and will get back with some results...

Hello.
Did you guys know that you can get the internet from boost mobile for 35 cents a day here in the USA? That's about $3.50 a month.
But actually, I don't have to pay for that. For some reason my phone has the internet whether I pay for it or not. It's an older phone so I don't usually use it, but sometimes I do and it comes in handy.
Has anyone else experienced this? I was seeing people saying they had this for T-Mobile but I didn't see anyone mention it on boost mobile. It makes sense though because those radio waves are pretty much in the air everywhere all the time whether we have access through them or not. It's just a matter of setting up the router/modem to access them.
Peace!
how do you get boost mobile internet for 35 cents a day?
The option is available on the boost mobile website under my account and plans. Just select the prepaid option. What I like to do is have two phones. I use a smart phone and get the internet through boost and then use another phone for regular calling. But you can use internet calling and texting too if you want to save money and only have one phone. Just get the internet through boost for 35 cents a day then go and get skype or some other internet calling and sms and use that through your boost internet. Works great u can get away with $10 a month for unlimited everything if you do it right.
Would it be possible to set up the boost phone as a mobile hotspot for my smartphone?
as long as your smartphone has that capability yes. I'm working on getting my touch pro 2 set up that way. You might need to download some cab files for it, drivers, software, etc... to enable the specific type of connection that you want. Generally the carriers who originally sold the phone don't want you to do things like this (because they don't get as much money) so they take things like that out of the phone or restrict them in any way that they can.
wait so would I be able to get Boost Mobile internet on my non-boost mobile phone? I have AT&T and an HTC Inspire 4G...So could I have all my AT&T service, but then have Boost for internet?
as far as I know this is possible, but may or may not be possible with your particular phone so you will need to check and see on that... but easier said than done. Check out this website article if you really wanna know how it works, then you can decide if you want to try : http://bridog.net/cellular/master-subsidy-lock-msl-codes/ (& plz click on an ad or two like I did to show your support for well written easily explained) its a good read but you would probably be better off going with a wifi router that fits in your pocket like the ones sprint or clearwire sells that you can stream internet from up to something like 5 or 8 devices. Or you could get another phone from boost and set up internet sharing and use that phone as your wifi transmitter. There's a lot of options really.
I was looking at the files on my blackberry and trying to get the msl unlock code, but it hasn't been easy for me so far. I thought If I could see what the programming is in the phone I could maybe understand how it does it, but as of now the software is incompatible with my windows 7 and for a second I thought I screwed my phone up as it started to give me an error when i was using a program called CDMA workshop. I just pulled the battery and it came back though thank god.
Actually you're probably not getting it free, the feature is usually enabled but you're not paying premium for data, but you will be billed extra for it.

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. You'll pay for it somewhere.

I may not know or understand and I have a lot to learn (from you maybe if you wanna teach me something ) everything but I put my money where my mouth is on this one. I'm getting free internet from boost mobile!
w00t! I managed to get the MSL for my blackberry by social engineering/tricking the carrier into giving it to me. CAUTION: I just wanna let you guys know that most if not all of those supposed MSL SPC codes for your blackberry or other device are FRAUDULENT AND CONTAIN VIRUSES! Do not download any programs like CDMA WORKSHOP CRACK V2.7 UNICDMA or HEX EDITOR UNLESS YOU WANT A BACK DOOR TROJAN! CALL YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER AND MAKE UP THE EXCUSE THAT YOU ARE GOING TO CUBA OR SOME OTHER PLACE WHERE BOOST MOBILE/SPRINT or OTHER U.S. CARRIER DOESN"T HAVE SERVICE BECAUSE THERE ARE NOT DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS AND YOU NEED YOUR CODE SO YOUR OPERATOR IN THAT COUNTRY CAN REPROGRAM PHONE FOR YOU TO USE WHILE THERE! IT TOOK ME 10 MINUTES!

Hello.
Did you guys know that you can get the internet from boost mobile for 35 cents a day here in the USA? That's about $3.50 a month.

You do realise that there are about 30 days in a month and at 35 cents a day it would be $3.50 for 10 days. More like $10.50 a month...

Oh yea americans only sorry. Unless you wanna try going to the american embassy and giving that as your address as technically that is America they might give you service if you threaten to sue? Then you could create an international legal drama and be famous and possibly somehow bring down the entire new world order in the process

Hey all. I just found (but has probably been out for awhile) a new thing that StraightTalk and the sister companies are doing. They are now offering GSM based SIM Cards for any AT&T and T-Mobile (and some sprint i believe) networked unlocked phones. Link at bottom for StraightTalk Sim card. They have both the full size card and the micro sim too. (For the iPhone 4s guys) I ordered a sim card last week and will hopefully get it on Thursday (7/12/12). I'll post later how it is and all. If anyone else has or had or will do this too post away how it worked out for you. StraightTalk and Net10 are both offering the SIM card for only $14.99 right now and charge you for shipping SOMETIMES. I was able to get just in under the limit that they were offering Free shipping on all orders $14.99 and over. Good for people that want a new Cheap phone service but want to keep their GSM based phone or cannot afford a new phone.
Net10
StraightTalk
Excelent, awsome offert. But I will not enjoy it because I dont use Tmo or At&t.
@josuearisty: The SIM Cards can be used in any unlocked AT&T or TMO phone, ex. our Bravos. That's what I was talking about.
The SIM cards really work in about any unlocked GSM phone that works on 800mhz and 1900mhz bands.
Working......
Well my Sim chip came in yesterday, put it in my phone, went online and switched my equipment on www.straighttalksim.com. Well all was well yesterday after about 5min of easy work. Old phone turned off new one on. Ok. No data, no text's? huh? Oh ya! Switch the APN settings. Got the little red card that came with the chip and had the settings I needed. Cool I thought to myself. Punch in the settings, reboot, enjoy! Works! Cool. Make a test call, hmm. There's a ring, yea. Connects, yea. Can you hear me? Good. Everything works. Awesome. So I use it all day yesterday and what happens? You guessed it, battery dies. Ok fine, charge it. Charged overnight. Wake up. Checked my emails, didn't notice I was connected to my home wifi, was out side, sent off a text, it sent, I thought, waited, hmm, must still be asleep. Oh well. Took my son to school. Cool. Check my phone at school, no messages. Strange, I usually have something by now, it's been an hour. Make a call, "Were sorry but you have reached your service end date. To contune please add another airtime card or......" WTF!! WHAT HAPPENED TO MY 20 MORE DAYS LEFT! I JUST BOUGHT A DAMN CARD! Drive home PISSED. Called StraightTalk off the wifes phone. "Please hold for the next available customer service rep." ok shouldnt be that long "your expected wait time is TEN MINUTES", pause for information to sink in. WHAT!? Whatever. Then they answered. "How can we help you today Mister Jones?" You cut off my service, "Oh i'm sorry about that, let me transfer you to someone who can help you, may I do that now?" yes "Ok thank you and thank you for being......... yada yada" ok so next guy comes on "Hello how may I help you?" You cut my phone service off "Oh i'm sorry for that let's take a look at your account." So he does and then asks when did I start and when did I last buy a card and such and then he says please hold so I can look at the account. Well his hold I guess is just not talking, not the button. Well after about 6 min of just hearing him breathing he says "Ok mister Jones i've replaced 11 days of service for you, will there be anything else I can do for you today?" Umm you did what? "I've put the remaining days back onto your account that we're supposed to have transferred but didn't" Oh ok thank you that will be all for today. " I thank you Mister Jones for being a part..." CLICK! I really don't like talking to customer service people that much. So,, I've been having a fairly good experience except for the time I had no service.
Rating is interesting for this one. 7 out of ten for service (or having service), I guess 5 out of ten for the customer service people, and everything else is fine so far.
Your sig shows you running CM7? Mine or Quarx's? Need to know if I need to update the apns since Strait Talk is supposed to be there by default now.
No I use an old quarx one. If you need to know any apn let me know and I can find it for you. Most of the time I've seen that the apn settings are somewhere on the sim card and the phone saves them.

I don't. Straight Talk's Apn comes with CM9 by default and I can get it from there. Just checked my APNs with my CM7 and I need to add that one in....Is they're unlimited data "AT&T\Verizon 2Gb Unlimited" or "Sprint Unlimited"? I'm thinking of going to Straight Talk and dropping off my parent's AT&T Family Plan.
//I still think AT&T & Verizon should be taken to court for offering unlimited data in big letters on the ads while its really only 2gb of data -- hardly unlimited, small, unreadable, quick changing terms you can barley read at the bottom of a 48" 1080p screen shouldn't count; I wouldn't complain if the cap was at 50gb+, but you can barley watch a few youtube videos with 2gb. I can easily burn 1+ gigs a day just with rom development (repo syncing, up\downloading roms, mods, syncing\installing apps after a flash); factor in streaming music, social integration apps, YouTube, email, web browsing, navigation, push ads....I can go on, but ya'll get the point of the rant.
I don't have the capped data I have the unlimited one. I don't know if they do like T-Mobile and roll your speed back after a few gigs or not. Alot of mixed information is online so until I use it I don't really know.
Short version. I have unlimited data.

I have a friend who has it, and from what I understood from him, its unlimited until you run out of minutes. Not sure if they throttle it or not, but I can deal with throttled internet....its being charged $20 for every 2GB that bothers me more than anything. He's only had it for less than a month as well and isn't a geek or tech savvy.
Makes me wonder if there's some way to use a VOIP service for calls with Straight Talk so you'd never go over the minutes and lose internet...

I haven't looked around all that much but there are several voip options in the google store. I don't remember but I think you can use skype to call other skype users voip. I just pay the $45 a month and have unlimited everything for 30 days. I don't care about min or texts or data usage. I am watching how much data I'm using to see if they throttle me or cut me off. In the terms of service they do say to not tether or data but I am anyway. Netflix and youtube are also taboo to them as well but what do we care? I'? tethering to my laptop to watch netflix and youtube with open garden. I'm using the non-root open garden just to try it out and even though there is a very lax set of settings it works as it should. Only downside to the non-root app it that you have to have bluetooth on the receiving computer or device. Mines built-in on my laptop but not my wifes. As well the app doesn't work on her HTC rhyme.

My buddy does it by the minutes, didn't know they had an unlimited service for $45 -- that's not bad at all -- which is why I thought the voip option was an idea to get around that, but I'd rather pay $45 for the unlimited anyways since its cheaper then AT&T's (un)limited plan.

Did straight talk cut you off for watching Netflix ? I called their customer service about netflix, and couldn't get a straight answer about whether or not they allowed it. (no pun intended)
