that information doesnt exist from my understanding with these types of phones... u either have the internet or you dont, which u should have the internet if ur paying the data package, unless ur bill is past due and some of your services are temporarily suspended...
No, the thing is - I bought Droid X on EBay and now want to use it with different carrier (not Verizon). Phone interface doesn't have any option to exchange settings for built-in EV-DO modem (dialing number, username, password, etc). phones running Android and build by HTC have easy access to modem internet settings.
Help, plz!
I don't think you can use the x on another carrier by my understanding.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
The only other carrier you *might* be able to use it on is one that uses CDMA, so not T-Mobile or AT&T

Connection Manager paradigm doesn't exist on this platform. Provisioning is done OTA when you first set up.

Re: About to Purchase an XDA Exac: email setup w/ GPRS?

Hey folks...
I'm about to purchase an XDA Exec. I've seen most of my questions answered in various places on the net including this one.
The ONLY question I haven't seen addressed directly is the following:
I have a tmobile account which pushes my email to my phone. I understand that I insert my sim into the XDA Exec, but do I have to input any settings to grab my email from tmobile's servers so that it "lands" in my XDA?
Thanks in advance. I didnt see anything specific about this...

Yes you do. O2 sets up Exec to work with O2... so you need to get your settings for t-mobile to make email work.

Those were other comments that I commented out...
Thanks for the 411 and I appreciate the assistance as I am a novice at this.
1) Assuming I fresh and empty XDA and assuming that I start w/ the start button, where exactly do I apply these settings?
2) Are these also the settings for web surfing via gprs?
Thanks
1) Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Manage existing connections/add connection (in the top part) > select modem Cellular Line (GPRS,3G) > enter APN > Finish
2) yes

This is EXACTLY what I have done.
I then start pocket IE and get the following message:
"The current connection cannot be used for your request. Please end the current connection and try again."
Are you on the phone while you are trying to connect to GPRS? If you are this is why you are getting this message. I have no issues with my JasJar and GPRS. I am using the O2 rom which is much better than the Imate. I suggest hard booting your device, and not using any of the O2 garbage. Unlock the extended rom and just run the bluetooth patch and dialer cab. Then re install any apps you want. Have fun!

I just installed BlackBerry Connect v4.0.0.104 on my Raphael and it works great. I am recieving my mails and can browse the net through the Internet Explorer but all other applications which require internet access such as Opera, Weather, IMs, etc. have stopped working.
I went to Settings -> Connection -> Connections and it was empty even though my phone showed it was connect to EDGE (small E on top of the signal bars). I then created a new connection with my carrier's APN settings and connected it. I was then able to use all the other applications but the blackberry service got suspended.
From what I understand the BlackBerry Connect application connects directly to the blackberry server without creating a dialer in Settings -> Connection -> Connections so even though its already connected the non-blackberry applications think there is no connection.
Secondly if I create a new connection it disconnects the blackberry connection.
I want to know if anyone has figured out a solution for this. Is there a way to create a proxy to link to the blackberry service or something?
Thanks in advance.

You should be able to enable multiple simultaneous APN connections. I have done this on my Kaiser and use BlackBerry Connect. I must admit though I have never been able to use IE over the BBC APN connection when using the 'BlackBerry Browser'. I assumed this just set some Proxy settings?

I apologize for being so hasty. I tried your suggestion and it works even without 3G. Thanks.
I thought that simultaneous connections were not possible with just EDGE but I was wrong.

Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\RIL\OperatorContex
There you will find several numbers. E.g. 26202 for Vodafone in Germany.
The number is a combination of MCC / MNC so 262 02. You might find you operator in this list:
http://surfio.de/info/mcc_mnc/mcc_mnc_liste_6.html
What happens is if your operator is not in this list there will be a key created with no contend. I inserted in there by copying from one of the others:
GPRSContextNumber = 3
UMTSContextNumber = 3
This is the source for the value of NetworkContexts in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Cellular\RIL\
Just set the Contexts value to 3 and delete the NetworkContexts entry. It will be created from the source above with the value 3.
I am so happy that I finally found that out. That was such a pain for a long time. Hope that helps some others as well.
Thanks to luiggi who gave me the final hint in his thread:

you don't need anything. just read the manual
You could use the application "Data Controller", i have it installed cause this annoyed me aswell.
Data controller allows you to shut down any non-wifi signal your phone is currently transmitting (like the data link & wap etc.)

Thank you for the hint, but searching for it I found a new 'version' updated to work with Manila Windows Phone, called Manila Dial-up Enabler/Disabler.
Now what I do need, it is to find a way to use facebook through wifi/wlan ..
Has anybody already discovered how to have facebook using only wifi or activesync connections?
I will Copy/Paste the steps since new users cant post links
Prevent your phone from using the data connection when you want to ensure that it will never connect to the Internet via GPRS/3G.
On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab and then tap Wireless controls.
1-Tap Menu > Connections and then tap Add a new modem connection.
2-Enter Offline as the name of the connection.
3-In the Select a modem list, select Cellular Line (GPRS), and then tap Next.
4-Enter Offline as the access point and then tap Next.
5-Tap Finish.
6-Tap Manage existing connections and then select Offline.
7-Press BACK and then tap Done.
Restoring the data connection:
1-On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab and then tap Wireless controls.
2-Tap Menu > Connections and then tap Manage existing connections.
3-Tap the name of your mobile operator's data connection.
4-Press BACK and then tap Done.
Hope this will help
Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and must say I never thought there was so much suport out there for these phones. So I would like to put my problem forward for you see if you can help me.
I have bought my GT-I5800 of a freind who has just come back from north africa, he needed the money. Anyway it was originally on T mobil but he had it unlocked over here. I am on o2 and so when I put my sim card in everything worked except for the access to the internet and the GPS.
I have a P.A.Y.G. account but do have access to the web on my old phone with a cretain amount free every month of topping up.
When I phoned o2 using my new (secondhand) phone to get the setting sent by text the chap said it was not an GT-I5800 but a maxtel. The thing is that when it starts up it shows the GT logo and the screen is the same as what i've seen on the photos, the three button style. I have found inside the phone these details:-
Model no. GT-I5800
firmware 2.2
Baseband I5800XXJH1
Kernelversion 2.3.32.9 [email protected]@#1
Build no. FROYO.XXJPB
I wanted to get the web side working and GPS although it does connect to my home router wirelessly ok and phone calls +text work ok. Any help would be most welcome.
Cheers everyone. raccoon
You need to manually set your APN (Access Point Name).
1. Google 'X APN Settings android' where X is the name of your mobile network provider (eg. t-mobile) and keep that page open.
2. Go to Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile network -> Acces point names. Press the menu key and choose new APN
3. Add settings (name, APN,...) according to your provider
4. You should now have internet connection.
GPS is something beyond my knowledge
Cheers Thom I will try that and post back asap.

Do you have the correct settings? What o2 sim do you have? Simplicity, normal payandgo, or a basic old 2g sim card? (and yh the settings change accordingly)

You might need to manually set your APN. Click menu, settings, wireless and networks, mobile networks, access point names. Change to your carriers settings, click menu after and save. Then make sure the checkbox is ticked next to it and you should be set.
