Ad hoc wi-fi problem (not what you think) - Hero, G2 Touch General

First, i'd like to say hi to all of you. I run this ROM and i applied the zip attached to this thread. I find the ad-hoc network and then i have no problems connecting to it. I can see the speed of the network, the signal bars are adequate but there is one big problem. I can't browse the internet or whatsoever through this connection. The PC doesn't receive packets from the phone AT ALL. The WLAN adapter keeps sending packets but it doesn't receive any packets from the phone. Tested the phone with an access point and it works flawlessly. I tested the PC ad-hoc connection too, everything works with every other device but the Hero. So, can you please help me?
Thanks.

Okay, now i flashed with villain's 12.0 final eclair rom with sense ui and still this thing DOESN'T WORK!!! What can i do about it? Please, help me...am i the only person for which this doesn't work?

[Q] Wifi in Android

Hello everybody!
I'm sorry, that I post here, but as I'm pretty new, I'm not allowed to write anything in the developers forum. I successfully enabled wifi in android and the phone finds my wlan network. When I enter the wlan-key the phone first connects and also establishes the connection. Unfortunately after it has connected it tells me, that it's out of range an tries to reconnect. Thus I never have a stable network, although the signal strength is at maximum. Has anybody also encountered this problem? Any hints? Router is Fritz!Box 7113 and wlan is wpa2 secured.
Already thanks for your replies!
get a better router(Linksys)..this has NOTHING to do with Android WiFi!
I know that my router is not the best, but I have several devices which have access to the router (two notebooks, one pc, xbox 360, windows mobile on HD Mini) and there the connection has always been stable and reliable. I NEVER had any disconnects now in the last three years. Therefore I'd suggest it's a software problem. Also somebody else has posted in the developers thread for wifi on android, that he has the same problem.
Okay now, I solved the problem preliminary.
First I used Android 2.2, where the problem occured. Now I switched back to 2.1 and patched the files in order to enable wlan. In 2.1 I can establish a stable connection to my router. Strange! Maybe someone could also mention that in the developers thread to help people who also had that problem.

Wifi problem on my hd2

I just got an HD2 (flashed windows 7) and when I try connecting it to my home network, it will say connecting and then after a while it shows "Connection Unsuccessful"
I have a linksys wrt610n router, and i even tried resetting the router but still the problem persists.
First I thought it might be a phone issue, but it was connecting perfectly fine to the local library's hotspot and a starbucks hotspot. So that means, it's definitely something wrong with my house network that it won't let me connect.
All the other devices : ipod touch, laptop, xbox 360, connect fine to the network.
Please help me with this issue, as I am using HD2 without a data plan so without wifi,i cant fully use the functionalities of hd2.
Thanks.
Is your ssid hidden? Wp7 has troubles with that, you could try the wp7 section without sounding cocky, there is a couple of threads mate about it, more help in there.

Yeah, even before flashing the rom the same problem existed. I think it's something wrong with my network, as I am able to connect perfectly fine with at a starbucks hotspot.
And no it's not hidden. The networks visible and the name of the network is with spaces -> cow boy , does that make a difference?
do you have mac filtering or anything turned on liked that in the router setup ??
do you have any crazy characters in the password like %^& ??? that could be a prob not sure also check these out looks like it could be a sd card problem, have you ever had it connect using android or winmo 6.5???

8) Can't connect to my wireless network.
- Tap and hold the SSID of the network and select Forget
13) How can I make GPS work better (be more fast and precise)?
- Make a backup of your /etc/gps.conf (use a file manager to rename or copy to another place)
- Visit this thread
- Click in the link "XDA Members Click Here" at the final of the post, and search for the correct .zip for your country
- Copy the .zip to your SD Card and reboot in Bootmenu, then flash the zip via Custom Recovery

For me, Wifi and GPS don't seem to be giving problems. But again, thanks for bringing in the useful information.
not working in Brazil with Cm7 rom ported from defy
On my UK 2.2.2 android there is no /system/etc/gps.conf file. Maybe this GPS fix is only for HTC phones.
In MIUI, I have the file in
/system/etc/gps.conf
and
/etc/gps.conf

Wifi problems with 802.11 N + PEAP Authentication
Hi folks!
Here in my university we have a Network called Eduroam (www.eduroam.org , probably you've already heard about it).
The Hotspots are N capable, so my phone, if connected, shows a speed of 65 Mbps. For the authentication, we use MSCHAP v2. So far, so good...
Now to the things I experienced: @ home, where I use a 802.11g network, everything seems to be ok.
Here in the university it's not. Sometimes it needs a really long time to connect to the network, and sometimes it drops the connection just shortly after. Switching off and on again speeds up the process a lot.
But now to the worst part: Often, the connection is shown as established ('Connected'), but in reality there is no connection: No mail connection, no HTTP connection, ping doesn't go through... nothing. Even it shows it is still connected.
Now I am not sure if this issue is caused by the autentication or the N Network , but I can say two things for sure:
1. My laptop, when connected to the same network with the same parameters works fine.
2. It has been working fine up to the transition from Android 2.3.5 to 2.3.7.
I'm running cm7-20111021-NIGHTLY-Milestone2-ICS-pre_stable-v1.5 on a A953, but was also experiencing those issues on builds before that one.
I'd have loved to post this into the developement thread, because I have already seen someone describing a simmilar issue (less detailed unfortunately), but I can't due to the 10 posts minimum rule.
Best regards and thanks for that great port, Endless !

Probably you can try switching off the N network from your phone. Force it to connect through G.
This post might help you.

It basically disables n network from Milestone 2
You can give it a shot.
I delete all my wifi connections, reboot the cell and work all good..

Hi everyone,
yesterday I was it my friend and tried to connect to his access point. He has b/g AP with WPA2 password protection & DHCP enabled. But when I tried to connect it kicked me off in authetication state and tried to connect again - but without success. I tried to disable and enable wifi, deleting saved connection, but nothing of this helped me.
I'm using CM7 - does anyone have similiar or same problem - connecting to WPA2-PSK wifi? I'm using WPA at home and it works ok - I just want know if it is global problem with CM7 on Milestone 2 or just me (or just this AP) and what solutions can i try.
Thanks for suggestions.
I know it is not here but my phone is locked in airplane mode!

It always happens to me on my uncle's house. His wifi is WPA2 and has such a BIG password, but when I try to connect the phone acts as if nothing happened...
I think it's a global problem with Milestone 2, because it didn't work in any Rom, Froyo/CM7/GB/MIUI.

x8 device doesn't connect to Ad Hoc WLAN

I've used to get to the web using my laptop as an Ad Hoc access point since my partner doesn't allow me to have a dedicated access point, but, since the day I updated to froyobread V18 coming from V17 it stopped connecting to my laptop using Ad Hoc (which is the only way to share an internet connection wirelessly) and instead it stucks at "obtaining IP address"..!
I've tried to go back to V17 and that didn't fix anything, and now I'm running GingerDX V13 and the problem still exist..I've also tried to format my SD card which also didn't help, so I'm now almost out of "web coverage" since there is no real 3G support in my country..
Also tried to do a full wipe and to "forget" all remembered networks.. and it didn't help.
Any ideas regarding the problem would be greatly appreciated..
May firewall of your PC cos this problem, close it and try again.
anoher possibility, you can't use WPA/WPA2 PSK type password, WEP or OPEN is ok. sorry for poor English.
Have you restarted ur phone after removing stored wlan information?
I did but still not wotking.

Thanks a lot qjw451.. however my firewall is always turned off and i used to connenct using open network all the time..I geuss that something went wrong with my phone but I don't know what it is..
@l1nkiboy
So you do have the same problem?..
Actually I've tried it, didn't work..
Any other ideas?
As you can see it is really a big problem not bieng able to connect your Android phone to the internet.
try connectify.
wc_how
Thanks a LOT!
I wonder how I forgot about connetify, I used to use it before upgrading to Froyobread (since the stock ROM doesn't support Ad Hok), then I moved to Ad Hok connection since connectify is buggy a little bit. However it is WAY better than nothing.
Thanks again wc_how.
I never thought to tell you anything because i have no idea with the ad hoc.
But when i saw you asking for any other ideas, suddenly connectify came to me.
You are lucky lol.

not able to connect to wifi network

Hi friends,
I am running CyanogenMod-7-10122011-Nightly-Desire {TyphooN_v3.7.1-MAGLDR}
on my HTC HD2 Tmobile and I am really in love with my phone using android.
But my phone has not been connecting to my wifi network lately after I installed CyanogenMod.
In the begining it used to connect and how it just says "Not in range" and never connects but sometimes when i restart the router it used to connect. But the problem still exists and is not connecting anymore
But it always connects to any other unsecured networks interestingly why is this so??
did anyone come across the same problem? appreciate your feedback.
thanks in advance
Regards
vivek4all
looks problem solved
I have just gone through this thread and my wifi connected again hopefull the problem will not exist anymore.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714822
Go to the wifi settings, menu, advanced, regulatory domains and select number of channels to use (14)
thanks guys
If the problem persists you can install the AOSP gingerbread mod 7. 2..... its pretty much a better version of the original CM Mod and has the latest updates
