how do i delet all contacts i want to start over and try and reload my contacts from my old phone (samsung highlight) i have more that one number for each contact and only one went on sin to new phone i want to try to reload sim then to the g2. If some one knows a better way to make the transfer that would be great.
You should be able to simply go to Gmail, log in with the account tied to your G2, and edit all your contacts that way. Rebooting your phone after should update your contacts to match the Gmail contacts; if not, just give it an hour.
Or you could also go into:
Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Running > Contacts Storage > Clear data
That will clear them all out, too.
thanks i got it

Ok upgraded to 2.1 and then once finished i sync'ed the phone with my outlook for my contacts. Then i signed into my gmail account when i was going to the android market .
So make a long story short in the contacts it shows the names but when i do a SMS and on TO i type the name and then it shows up the person twice instead of once. So i guess it put double but in contacts it only shows once.
Is there anything i can download to only have 1 contact ( only in the sms or when i edit contacts it shows twice ) or would i have to erase it and then sign into gmail to get the contacts back.
when i go to delete this acount ( gmail ) it give will erase all contacts and etc.
FIXED THE ISSUE, in case others need it.
So you want to remove all the "Phone" entries?
If you do, click the following -
People > Menu > View > Make sure just "Phone" is checked > Press OK > Menu > Delete contacts > Menu > Select All > Done
Then press Menu > View > Select Google and you'll have removed the Outlook details, retaining and using just the Google one.
Then it removed all contacts on the phone so i went into
Setting> Accounts & Sync>Google and clicked Sync Contacts

brand new newb here - what exactly is the difference between phone contacts and google contacts? Do they relate at all?
Thanks,
Phone contacts are only stored on the phone, so if you wipe or it gets stolen, they're gone. Google contacts are backed up and restored when you sign back into your new phone/Rom

Google means that it is backed up with your gmail account. Phone means it is not.

thanks! So I sync all my contacts between my computer and gmail contacts, then as I understand it, gmail contacts automatically syncs with my Hero - so I wonder if I really need the phone contacts. I've never entered any new contacts into the phone but there appears to be 5-6 phone contacts anyway.
Given my setup, would I be correct in simply deleting my phone contacts and then unchecking Phone in the view from People settings?
2nd question - how can I just see what those 5-6 phone contacts are?
thanks again
Jack

thanks - next question is way off subject here (I apoligize) but I couldn't find anything helpful when I searched - probably because it's a simple question:
I've downloaded to my computer a .apk program. What steps are there to install this program on my Hero?

Use the HTC Sync program that comes with your phone to push the .apk file. It's very easy to do.

I linked my facebook up on my phone and even after DELETING the program it still links all my contacts.
So now, I have 500 people when i go to select a contact to text and when I type in a friends name 3 entries pop up.
Ive tried looking up stuff on google and even tried everything to unsync it and its completely unsinked and it still wont help.
HOW DO I GET RID OF THREE OF THE SAME CONTACT POPPING UP ON MY TEXTS?
Please help its making my phone unuseable i really loved this phone until this issue
Best to start fresh. Deselect the contact sources you don't want to sync. Go to settings/applications/manage applications. Hit the running tab. Scroll to find "contacts storage" app. Select it. Select delete data. This will erase all your contact data. You can then resync the contacts you want.
Swyped on my rooted MyTouch4G
ended up using a friends recommendation of contact remover/removal from the market nice free program
Here the fix it happen to me to:
Go to-Contacts-Views and choose only with phone number. I disable the facebook for my touch under options. You can disable the other choices you have there too. Hope this work for you!
Ugh, my gmail is totally horked up. I can't get it to send a message and sync is all screwed up. I'll read messages, mark as read, and archive them, but they're still showing up in the unread messages count.
I've checked the sync settings, and everything appears to be in order. Mark messages as read in desktop gmail, and poof, they come back again.
Any ideas?

This has happened to me a couple of times. Try clearing the Market data/cache in Applications (Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Market). Alternatively, you can simply uninstall then reinstall Gmail, which is what I did.

I finally got it worked out. Went to Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > GMail and cleared all the data. It took a few seconds to sync up again but now all is well.
Glad you got it sorted.
Just noticed in my last post that I told you to clear data for the Market, when I meant Gmail. Hope that didn't cause any confusion.

i had this issue when i tried to restore a system backup of CM RC4 and it just messed up my main gmail account (got 2 accounts the second one works fine) ... i couldn't resolve it by clearing the gmail data, formating cache etc... so i just flashed a new ROM and that took care of it ... i know that might not be the solution ur looking for but hey i got too annoyed with it and didnt want the headache lol
Hi,
I have the Nexus 4 from LG, running Android with all the latest updates.
For the last 2 week I have been having the issue that contacts disappear. It started with SMS/Text messages not recognizing the sender from the contacts. Then you realize that the contact has disappeared.
I then went to Gmail and did a restore and got back my contacts.
Today morn I had 1029, now I have 672. You can see images I captured over the day today. Top right shows the number of contacts.
I have already deleted the COntacts from the apps and re-sync etc.

I'm having a similar problem and although I don't have a complete fix I have been using the Go Contacts EX app to backup contacts to a vcf file and then the contacts can easily be restored from there. Google keeps deleting my contacts even though I have syncing disabled.
Looks like someone is deleting ur contacts...

Maybe that is what it looks like to you but that is not at all what is happening. I was setting up the phone before I gave it to a family member as a gift. I was the only one besides Google making any changes to it. I have deleted the google account from the phone and will next start using system tuner to disable services until the problem is solved.
try this...
1. Make a full backup of your contacts. To backup ur contacts use any third party app from the playStore. I recommend using [SMS Backup & Restore] by Ritesh Sahu.
2. Make sure you have only one main Google account syncing. If you have any other gmail accounts go to settings > Accounts > click on the other accounts and remove it for now.
3. go to settings > backup and reset > uncheck Backup my data (this will erase all of ur backups on Google servers).
4. Restart your phone and restore you contacts using SMS Backup & Restore.
5. Go to settings again > Accounts > Google > here you should see your gmail account. On top right corner click on the three dots > Sync now. Wait until it finish syncing.
6. You can now re-enable Backup my data. Settings > Backup & Reset > Check Backup my data.
7. Re add your other gmail accounts.
Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had tried all that before I posted here. Now I have used Startup Manager to disable the Google Contacts Sync service so we'll see how that goes.

I am having the same exact issue you are having. My contacts keep getting deleted on a daily basis on my Samsung Galaxy S4 Phone (Sprint)
Where you ever able to sort out this issue?

Yes. I disabled all Google Sync services and eventually got it to work (it did take some experimentation though). I tried both System Tuner (i.e., the Startup Manager) and Titanium Backup to disable (hibernate) it. I currently have Ubuntu Touch on that phone so am unable to give you the exact configuration. Good luck!
Badboy's directions worked for me.
Although, I didn't make any backups. I'm putting in my contacts manually. The most crucial part was removing all accounts except one. From that point on, things started working.
SOLVED!!
I am having an issue with my new LG Urbane. When I swipe over to contacts on the watch and select a contact with multiple phone numbers, the phone number type is wrong. On the phone a number is listed as Mobile but shows up as Work. Work shows up as home. Etc.
Has anyone else seen this? How do I fix this??
I also see missing photos.
What am I doing wrong?
I'm having only 20 of my 78 contacts on LG Urbane, strange.
Wow, I'm seeing the same thing, every number is labeled wrong! I only see 34 of my 560 contacts, but I do see photos for the ones I have set photos for. (I don't use Google+ or Facebook photos.) It looks like the ones I see are the ones in my call log that are in my contacts list. This is definitely a bug that needs to get zapped!

hey - i had some problems and did this
- make sure you have contacts backed-up to google
- settings -> accounts -> google -> touch your account to show all the sync settings
- unclick contacts
- settings -> apps -> all -> contacts : wipe cache and data and force stop the apps
- do the same as above with contacts storage
- settings -> accounts -> google -> touch your account to show all the sync settings
- click contacts
- wait until sync completes and it should work
this worked for me when I was getting no contacts available when using "ok google"
I hope it helps you too

We're talking about contacts on the watch showing the wrong number, mobile for work, etc. I don't have any trouble with contacts and "OK Google" on the watch. Were you having the same problem and your method fixed it, or are you talking about no contacts available?

Hi Jim
you are right - my issue is different but if you assume the operations I went through is a clean resync of the contacts data it may help you to try it
Just wanted to suggest something that might help
Good luck and let me know if you try it and it works
I'm having the same issues with my LG G Watch.... not all my contacts are showing and the phone types are incorrect. Really annoying since i don't have my contacts numbers memorized.
I don't think your issue is specific to your device. I'm having the same experience with my Moto 360. All numbers are there, but whether it is work/mobile/home/etc is all out of whack.

I hope you're right, and if so, the rumored update for next month fixes it.
The problem i am having is that there are contacts on my watch's "frequently contacted" page that are no longer on my contact list in my phone or google contacts. I've done everything i can think of to get rid of them but nothing is working... thoughts?

I don't know if this was ever fixed on the Urbane, but I switched to the Huawei Watch and of the ones I checked, they all show the correct type for each phone number.
