Hello.... - Vibrant General

Today I'm getting my Vibrant....I have a G1 right now, should I charge the battery on the Vibrant or let it drain and then charge it?

Charge it to full and you should be fine .

Should be fine without, but it doesn't hurt to calibrate.
When I got mine the first thing I did was a factory reset, then calibrated the battery - just let Avatar play over and over until it died then plugged it in overnight. My battery life has been great.

Thanks I'm using the phone right now....this phone is amazin!

Now root it, flash JI6, JAC's Kernel, a lagfix and you are good to go.

Or flash Eugene's Froyo rom and then go to an Apple store and detour their potential customers with your lighter, sexier phone that has flash support.

I Pick Option B!!!!

Ahh yes
But still show it to all the Apple groupies to show them what a Superior Really looks like...... and remind them how they are getting taken by Steve Jobs and his cronies

You should drain the battery first til it dies and recharge fully. Repeat cycle twice more. Charging a partially charged new battery and not prepping by cycling thru full charge and full discharge werk shorten your talk time and the over all battery life.

Battery Life Potential Reason......

Ok, first up I am not a developer, not would I know how to develop for the phone.
With that said, I've noticed a repeatable chain of events that I think have caused at least in my own situation poor battery life from certain modems.
I noticed that after flashing for instance KA7 on top of a previous installation of KA5, KA6 or even JK6 that battery life of the new KA7 modem was horrific. My base ROM was usually always Nero or Bionix
Then I completely changed to the new Bionix-V ROM which is based on KA7 and voila, my battery life is great.
Could it be that the process of flashing different modems causes some kind of internal confusion with the phone that relates to undesirable battery life?
Just an idea, but it's like I said something I have been able to repeat, and perhaps others have had the same experience.

Instead of responding with a useless post and armchair modding, you could just not post at all and let the moderators do their job. It's posts like yours that cause people to run out of here. Just blatantly rude.
I don't know, but I think it's possible. Sometimes, flashing over causes every kind of problems. Why not?
Isn't that the reason why we clear battery memory after a flash? So that there is no confusion. :-\

Never underestimate the power of placebo
Reset the battery stats via recovery and after a full cycle or two you probably won't notice poor battery.

I should have added that I ALWAYS wipe battery stats when making modem/ROM changes - following the usual guidelines.
However, my experience still exists.
Specifics:
Nero V3 Running Voodoo+JK6 = Approx 30 hours battery on light/medium use
Nero V3 Running Voodoo+Updated KA7 = Approx 12-16 hours with same usage
Bionix V running Voodoo+KA7 = Approx 30-36 hours with same usage
It's not placebo - it's a measurable, noticeable difference.
i get good battery ;life out of stock ka7 no bloat prolly around 30h and for instance i had bionix and my battery was sucked up llike no tomorrow thats why i am back on stock
I think the PLACEBO may more correct answer, Since JK2 and on battery has been not a real issue. Every time you flash a new modem etc, if you think you need to (I do not think it is all that important) go into recovery and go in advanced and do the clear battery stats and go from there......
The only Time i have ever had a real issue with the battery life with custom ROMS is when using over-clock roms.
Other than that, I would guess you are using the phone different every day, and do not think so imho. That is a more likely cause of battery performance or lack thereof.
with bionix my battery lasted half less
Is has a lot to do with how much battery you have left when you flash a rom. I always flash with a complete full charge and never really see a difference in battery life going from rom to rom. My battery always last about a day and a half with every rom I have tried. Also I have not once wiped battery stats. This is only needed if you do flash with a battery that is not fully charged.

I apologize but take away about 10 hours of just idling while your sleeping at night, that doesn't count... I could keep my phone asleep with no widgets, 0% brightness, etc. but what's the fun?
As long as your phone lasts you the day, or as long as you need it to, you shouldn't be worried about it going for a week on one charge...

exactly.
Your battery needs to last maximum of 15 hours, unless if you work 24/7.
your going to end up charging it at night so why the hell do you care?
I'm curious about the 20+ hour battery life cases if you have background sync enabled.
I just requested a new battery as my old one I believe is going bad. Running JFD --> JK6 --> JK7. Charged battery to 100% while off over 3 days. (Letting sit all day at 25% 75% and 100%). Resetting battery stats tonight and staying at 100%. I'll see how the new battery compares. (My old battery life was 8-10 hours max).

5 hours of battery life on Evo with CM7 Build 6 or 7

Hi all!
I have been using CM7 RC1 for a while, and recently upgraded to Builds 6 and 7 in order to get 4G working.
I did not wipe when flashing 6 or 7; just flashed the ZIP from the recovery.
Where I would have previously gotten 18-24 hours of use, I now get 4 or 5! It's amazing.
I'm 4h17m off the charger. Display time is 17% (1h33m), Cell standby is 29% (TWOS 6%), Maps is 20% (used it for a little bit while in the car), Phone idle is 17%, and Wi-Fi is 14%. Battery life is at 9 percent.
I'm just surprised at the bad battery life, especially after having real good life in CM7 RC1. Nothing of substance has changed other than flashing Builds 6 and then 7.
Like I said, I did not wipe anything before flashing. Should I have? I might try it, just to be sure...
Others who have CM7 Builds 6-8, could you tell me how your battery life is now compared to RC1? Is it noticeably different? This has been a tremendous drop-off for me, and I'm suspecting this must be some sort of fluke.
Thanks for the input!
This doesn't belong in Development Section.
You're right. My bad. If there's a mod around, please move it!
More than likely it's because of the lack of wipe.
also, hit up the sig for additional stuff if you're still having issues

I'm having the same issue, flashed yesterday, I was fully charged when I flashed CM7, but I spent about an hour playing with the phone and was at 60% when I left the house to go to work. My phone died within 4 hours, it was on standby all that time as I didnt get a chance to play with it. It was hard to gauge if the Rom caused the drain or if it was because it was already low on juice. This moring I was at 100%, flashed the Savage 1.0 Kernal (in the hope that it would enhance the battery life), reset the battery stats when the phone was at 100%, it stayed there for about 26 mins then went down to 99% (on standby for 26 mins). I left the house, put my phone away at work, received 2 emails, 1 missed call in 5 hours and the battery is at 46% WTF!!!! I really like this ROM, but I really need to know what is causing the issue. The setup is the same as I had on the last 2 ROMS in regards to WIFI and GPS - bluetooth is always off.
Not running on fresh (for now anyways!)

Yeah this issue has been plauging me for awhile. I'm all for system panel pro (love the app; one of the first apps I bought), but it won't help in this instance. The problem is that the battery isn't charging as fast as the numbers say they are. The easiest fix (sadly, as I hate the risk) is an SBC kernel. That way, even though your meter will say 100, it will keep charging till it actually gets to 100. Without SBC, your phone will think it gets to 100 from 50 in an hour (it's probably at about 75) and will just start dying down to 65 (instead of 100 to 90). This means that you could unplug your phone at around 50 percent even though it says 100. The SBC is a good way to confirm, as is just turning off the phone and bump charging (check the link in my sig for the how-to). I'm really curious as to what is going on with the battery meter readings, maybe some dev can comment.
Hope I helped!
I'm using build 6 with Savaged-Zen kernel and I'm getting the absolute best battery life I've ever gotten with my phone. Like others have said, try wiping cache and dalvik and reflashing the rom. If you still get bad battery life, try Savaged-Zen kernel. Its fantastic. I'm currently using the CFS version 0.1.2.
Did you flash gapps right after flashing cm7? Also, have you checked if the "Dialer" is causing wake lock using spare parts?

Its a reaction to a bad rom. No feedback here? Or we just having people endlessly downloading the thing when its obviously flawed? Over and over again?
CM7 with wimax - bites.
Are we supposed to hide that?
Be glad when they get it fixed- but- its flawed as it is. And lord dont try and tether with it....
But you live in a non 4g area dont ya? Best battery life with a crippled rom ...

Rest of us live in 4g land. Using a generic rom with 4g and tethering working- is better than touting these purist roms- that dont Do what Needs to be done... while some kanger kid seems to make it run just fine....
Working as opposed to crippled- go with working ftw
SBC kernals- dont they torch your battery? People are still using sbc kernels?
Thanks for the info, fellas.
There was nothing out of the ordinary in Spare Parts. "Dialer" didn't appear to be misbehaving.
@noirelion, I should have mentioned that this is with 4G off.
@Leukay, that sounds really great! Would you mind elaborating on what kind of life you're getting, roughly?
I'll probably end up wiping and reflashing. Since I have Titanium Backup, it's not a huge deal. Just was wondering what in the world was going on!
I've been getting 20+ hours with nightly 8 stock kernal. So definitely try wiping

CM7 Wimax works fine for me. Tether, etc. Stock kernel, Savage-Zen, both work fine. Battery life is acceptable, even more so if on a SBC kernel.
Something is definitely wrong with your install. I'm running nightly 6 with stock kernel, flashed over nightly 5 without a full wipe (wiped dalvik and cache, flashed gapps) and I just got 68 hours of battery life with 28% still left.
Try rebooting to recovery and wiping dalvik again, sometimes on first boot some strange things get cached, and a second dalvik wipe after the first boot can fix some strange behavior.

definitely a problem. i was getting 18 hrs (first light then heavy once i got out of school) and now get like 22 estimated with tiamat's noSBC (thats the 3.12 version) same light to heavy situation. try turning off data manually when u dont need it. helped a lot for me. tiamat sleeps like a baby, and gets high 1500's in quadrants.

Nobody has managed to get 4G working on an aosp rom other than teamwin for cyanogenmod. The reason sense based roms work is because HTC did the work for them. 4g for cyanogenmod was coded from scratch.

I LOL everytime I see someone crying about how they think SBC is bad. just because a few crappy chinese batteries caught fire doesn't mean your stock battery will...
saw in another post that some guy said although there wasn't real proof he was to afraid to risk it.
there is no real proof that cell phones cause cancer but he carries one of those around.
and anywho, i usually get 2+ days on CM7 nightly 6 with WiMax with savage.zen 0.1.0 and now im about to flash 0.1.2 which hopefully runs better.

Thanks XDA

I want to start off by saying that I am a NOOB at this rooting and custom ROM stuff. I was getting ready to toss this Vibrant in the trash when I said to read up on rooting, follow the steps provided, and install a custom rom. XDA you have saved my phone. I want to thank all of you who provide all of the support here. I installed Bionix 1.3 and I am in shock at this phone now. GPS actually works in real time. The phone is superfast as well. The only issue I have is that I can't surf the web or check FB without my battery draining like 3-5% in a ten minute span. Its crazy. Battery does well in standby mode. Extremely well as a matter of fact. not sure why it drains so quickly when I actually use it. I have wiped the battery stats and done the battery cycle. Overall still love the new look. Keep em coming.
Glad you found a new appreciation for your phone through xda. As we all did.
Your issue is with the kernal used in 1.3. The OverStock kernel. I've had the same issue. Great life in standby 1% an hour vs on a vanilla kernel + voodoo 3-4% an hour drain. Whenever I have my screen on battery drain is insane. 30% increase with the screen on vs how it norally would be. I would recommend flashing ka7/kb1 + voodoo kernel. That should fix it right up.
2 things
Check and make sure there are not background apps engaged when using those apps (sounds like there may be)
Also if you want you can buy a 4g battery it is 1650 mah that will help. But I use my phone alot and Battery really not an issue anymore.
check your background apps see what is not necessary to run.
i believe Team Whiskey removed the OverStock kernel and replaced it with the regualar VooDoo kernel in Bionix-V 1.3.1....
Maybe you should try that....
I'm using Categorically Worthless kernel on Binix-V 1.3.1 and my battery life is great
I must say THANKS as well. Tried rooting yesterday but something went wrong, was on official 2.2 and couldn't get 3e-2e fix to work. Nearly bricked phone. Searched xda. Now rooted with Bionix v (not tw version). Loving this speed. Battery isn't an issue since I have a spare w/charger.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Go to team whiskey's website, register,go to forums look for shory's files near top of page download kb1+voodoo kernal and flash it w/clockwork ...that will overwrite the over clock kernal and give you much better battery life or you can just flash bionix 1.3.1,personaly i like 1.3 and i just switch back and forth between kb1 and overstock it only takes about 20 seconds to flash
Bionix-V 1.3 w/a Splash of Color
Thanks for the response everyone. Will flashing the kernel wipe everything? I will be doing a backup though clockwork anyway. I was just wondering..... Thanks.

No, it will just overwrite the kernal files, so your sd card and all that should be fine, but go ahead and get in the habit of making backups regularly. Trust me, it can happen.

Very satisfied with EI22 battery life!!

I gotta say I am very impressed so far with the battery life on EI22!!
17 hours+ and at 77%? I have never seen the display consume such a small amount??
I am on prerooted stock deodexed with Nubes kernal.
I am using startup manager to stop all unneccesary apps and DRM content, and Using Go Launcher and battery has been great. Actually saw the battery stay at 100% for at least 15 minutes after unplugged. Using standard battery.
I havent heard anybody else talking about how good it is.

I had something similar happen. Maybe something about how it deals with battery stats is different. My expectations for battery life are to get the same or slightly better battery life, though I would hope for significant improvements.
Two things stick out at me. First, bigdreco's phone went from 100% to 20% after install. This is obviously a reporting error somehow. Second, Hypnotic2010's phone stayed at 100% for an awfully long time. This makes me suspicious of miscalibration or some battery stat wonkiness that hasn't been sorted out yet.
I definitely feel like there are software improvements to be made, don't get me wrong, but there's that pesky Law of Conservation of Energy that makes me think that 17 hours of operation taking only a quarter of the battery isn't quite right.

Weird battery issues

Hello all!
I just bought a used Fascinate and am having some weird issues with the battery and wanted to see what your opinions would be.
The issues I am having are:
- Very poor battery life
- Battery level jumping around after removing battery (Will be at 94% and jump to 90%)
- Slow charging time
I am currently running CM7 nightlies with the CM7 Kernel. Bad battery?
Edit: I have also re-flashed stock software and cleared battery stats a couple of times to no avail
Bump! Anyone have ideas?
Not really, maybe it's time for a new battery.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
when you are clearing battery stats are you doing so with a full charge? Also are you going through a calibration cycle afterwards i.e. Charge to full>Wipe stats>Use it till it dies>charge to full again. Do this a couple times and it should help. If not, new battery for sure. It's kind of a pain going through the process but its worth it

No problem, it really is a pain lol. I've got two extended batteries and a standard that i've done a crapload of times. The extendeds take an eternity to die. My last cycle went 2 days 14 1/2 hours off charger with moderate use.
If you do end up needing a new one, and dont mind the extra size I would definately recomend the OEM extended.

It seems that ever since I went from TSM Resurrection to SC charge time for the phone has gone up. Battery life is still about the same (better than Froyo), but definitely takes longer to fully charge. Seems like TSM was the best overall performing ROM for me.. thinking about going back.
