Very satisfied with EI22 battery life!! - Epic 4G General

I gotta say I am very impressed so far with the battery life on EI22!!
17 hours+ and at 77%? I have never seen the display consume such a small amount??
I am on prerooted stock deodexed with Nubes kernal.
I am using startup manager to stop all unneccesary apps and DRM content, and Using Go Launcher and battery has been great. Actually saw the battery stay at 100% for at least 15 minutes after unplugged. Using standard battery.
I havent heard anybody else talking about how good it is.
How is it for you????

Why does that graph go up?

Well yea, it was charged to 100%. Doesnt it reset if you plug it in or no?? Either way my battery life is waay better.
Another thing I noticed is that it seems to charge much faster.

I know this is a dumb question, but I will ask, is there just a noCIQ patch, or do we have to install the complete ACS package?
Nothing against your work, so please don't be offended.

Thanks, but I guess I can't use it anyhow:
Q: Can I flash this on an odexed ROM, including stock?
A: No! You must be on a deodexed ROM.

My graph went up when I first installed ACS ICS V2..
I charged my phone to 100% then flashed ACS ICS V2 and when the phone came up.. my battery was at 20%.. I was pissed off.. but with in a hour it was up to 80% and the graph was going up as well..

Show the usage list. Percentages don't mean squat.

I had something similar happen. Maybe something about how it deals with battery stats is different. My expectations for battery life are to get the same or slightly better battery life, though I would hope for significant improvements.
Two things stick out at me. First, bigdreco's phone went from 100% to 20% after install. This is obviously a reporting error somehow. Second, Hypnotic2010's phone stayed at 100% for an awfully long time. This makes me suspicious of miscalibration or some battery stat wonkiness that hasn't been sorted out yet.
I definitely feel like there are software improvements to be made, don't get me wrong, but there's that pesky Law of Conservation of Energy that makes me think that 17 hours of operation taking only a quarter of the battery isn't quite right.

The percentage is garbage indeed. I downloaded 300 meg of video with beyondpod today. Of course taking a huge chunk out of my battery since my 3g sucks. Beyondpod shows up as 2%. Lol...yeah 2% CPU usage.

Improved my battery life after leaked OTA

I thought I was losing my mind, after installing the OTA, I modified my qwerty.kl file to wake up the phone from the optical button. I noticed that my battery life was lousy, and originally thought it was because the OTA was buggy.
I restored the stock qwerty file, and no more wake-up from the optical button. My battery life improved drastically.
I heard that this change could prevent the phone from sleeping, thus the crappy battery life. Is this true?
Hope this tip helps.
Re
Anybody else have a faster draining battery because of the optical wake fix?
Could be just because you are accidentally hitting the optical trackball while its in your pocket or somewhere else? I use it on PMF's 2.2 ROM and haven't noticed any additional battery drain.
I think its because we are all forgetting to clear battery stats. It is even required on my rom, jdfroyo

What exactly does clearing the battery stats do? Do you think it would help me? If my phone completely dies or gets down to the low battery warning, the phone doesn't want to charge at all.
It says it is charging but the battery icon isn't animating and the charging led blinks repeatedly instead of staying lit up. Even if I shut the phone off the led still blinks while it's plugged in the charger.
I have to do several reboots and battery pulls to finally get the phone to start charging.
Didn't have any trouble until I applied the OTA and flashed a 2.2 rom.

this is very intriguing. i'll check my battery against my fiance's when she gets home and report. i did the optical_wake script on mine and not hers. i'm pretty sure she had 40% when going to bed last night and I was changing out my battery for my backup. i chalked it up to streaming the race for 30 minutes while we were out shopping, but I think the optical_wake script might make more sense.
PS. both have 1500mah HTC battery ordered from bidallies on ebay for $15 =).
No difference. Our batteries were within 5%. I guess flash vids are pretty taxing on our batteries.

Interesting....maybe I'm just losing my mind and imagining things?
Thanks for your update - after I install the new OTA leak right now, I'll see how my battery life is with the optical wake fix.
Check out jdfroyo when i update it. I tweaked it so you get 15-35 min more battery and no overheating!

Myself as well as many others would be interested to know what this tweak is to achieve better battery life.
Some of us out there actually like Sense - from what I understand, your ROM is de-sensitized?
Any chance you'll fill us in as far as what tweaks you've made? I'm sure I'm not the only one that would thank you.

Battery Life Potential Reason......

Ok, first up I am not a developer, not would I know how to develop for the phone.
With that said, I've noticed a repeatable chain of events that I think have caused at least in my own situation poor battery life from certain modems.
I noticed that after flashing for instance KA7 on top of a previous installation of KA5, KA6 or even JK6 that battery life of the new KA7 modem was horrific. My base ROM was usually always Nero or Bionix
Then I completely changed to the new Bionix-V ROM which is based on KA7 and voila, my battery life is great.
Could it be that the process of flashing different modems causes some kind of internal confusion with the phone that relates to undesirable battery life?
Just an idea, but it's like I said something I have been able to repeat, and perhaps others have had the same experience.

Instead of responding with a useless post and armchair modding, you could just not post at all and let the moderators do their job. It's posts like yours that cause people to run out of here. Just blatantly rude.
I don't know, but I think it's possible. Sometimes, flashing over causes every kind of problems. Why not?
Isn't that the reason why we clear battery memory after a flash? So that there is no confusion. :-\

Never underestimate the power of placebo
Reset the battery stats via recovery and after a full cycle or two you probably won't notice poor battery.

I should have added that I ALWAYS wipe battery stats when making modem/ROM changes - following the usual guidelines.
However, my experience still exists.
Specifics:
Nero V3 Running Voodoo+JK6 = Approx 30 hours battery on light/medium use
Nero V3 Running Voodoo+Updated KA7 = Approx 12-16 hours with same usage
Bionix V running Voodoo+KA7 = Approx 30-36 hours with same usage
It's not placebo - it's a measurable, noticeable difference.
i get good battery ;life out of stock ka7 no bloat prolly around 30h and for instance i had bionix and my battery was sucked up llike no tomorrow thats why i am back on stock
I think the PLACEBO may more correct answer, Since JK2 and on battery has been not a real issue. Every time you flash a new modem etc, if you think you need to (I do not think it is all that important) go into recovery and go in advanced and do the clear battery stats and go from there......
The only Time i have ever had a real issue with the battery life with custom ROMS is when using over-clock roms.
Other than that, I would guess you are using the phone different every day, and do not think so imho. That is a more likely cause of battery performance or lack thereof.
with bionix my battery lasted half less
Is has a lot to do with how much battery you have left when you flash a rom. I always flash with a complete full charge and never really see a difference in battery life going from rom to rom. My battery always last about a day and a half with every rom I have tried. Also I have not once wiped battery stats. This is only needed if you do flash with a battery that is not fully charged.

exactly.
Your battery needs to last maximum of 15 hours, unless if you work 24/7.
your going to end up charging it at night so why the hell do you care?
I'm curious about the 20+ hour battery life cases if you have background sync enabled.
I just requested a new battery as my old one I believe is going bad. Running JFD --> JK6 --> JK7. Charged battery to 100% while off over 3 days. (Letting sit all day at 25% 75% and 100%). Resetting battery stats tonight and staying at 100%. I'll see how the new battery compares. (My old battery life was 8-10 hours max).

Need more info like he said.......... But Read the Sticky about battery and look at some of the custom roms. They get great battery life.
And Yes, you may be the only one..............
I get horrible battery life. Running the Stock KA6 Froyo build. No custom roms. I think I would like the phone more if it got better battey life. I get 12 hrs max. No heavy usage on phone either. NO GPS OR WIFI on either.
This is probably the most asked question I see here. I recommend the search feature
If you're on a stock or leaked ROM, your battery is going to suck. Root, download Titanium Backup and start by freezing both DRM Processes and Media Hub for starters.
Next, spend the $2 and download an app called "SystemPanel". Run if for 24 hours. It will tell you what is draining your battery. The hardware is perfectly capable of good battery life. The more bloatware (Samsung and T-Mobile Apps) and crap apps you remove from your system, the better. Also, 3G, especially in area's with poor reception, will eat your battery life. In my experience, EDGE + WiFi is MUCH more friendly than 3G with no wifi. WiFi Calling is a battery killer as well. Getting great life is really quite easy once you know what you're doing, and the best way to know what you're doing is to read up.

I get around 40 hours with light use. Running the latest bionix rom. wifi and bluetooth enabled the whole time, approx 90 minutes with the screen on. You should be able to get close to that.
Quick question: I run system panel. It never show media hub in top apps, why should I freeze it then?
P.s. I don't use media hub...am judge curious.

At the end of the day...we can develop superb ROMS that have flashy flashes, but if the battery/components cant take it, then we are still at a stand still.
my battery life is good most of the time, but it seems there are periods where it drops quickly. i think it drops when the market alerts me about updates to my apps. both times i've had quick drops, the market has been the top app draining the battery and has a notification of updates. i don't see an option to turn of notifications is this updated version.

No but the netarchy kernel I use works just fine with my King's Alliance GB. It's all in the UNIVERSAL kernel, I should say
I usually get 24 hours up time and 3 hours awake before I've got to pop in a charged battery. Normally change out at 20% to keep it from going dead on me when I need it most.

Dear ics users!

I've been pondering over whether or not to upgrade to ICS now as the german version is released. My question is whether or not the battery life is similar to what you get with gingerbread. I've attached an image of what i get on a normal day, when i am at work and use my phone normally and not when i am sitting at home and never let my phone hit deep sleep!
Sure you get a lot of added features but battery life is what i really care about at i need to go sometimes two days without charge.
Got around 74 pct after 9 hrs of extreme light usage.

How does it compare to ICS hour by hour? any difference would you say?
I would skip this Samsung release of ICS. Samsung's interpretation of ICS is not terribly different then GB unless you run a different launcher. I thought battery life was worse on the German release. With the added risk of bricking a few have experienced, don't do it.
If you want try the ICS, go with this one;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627854
With this one, you can easily and safely role back to GB from a nandroid backup. This one does not have Touchwiz and the SPen is not fully functional as it is in TW.
I find battery better on GB personally but not by much when u compare it to the silky smooth quickness of ICS

For me so far samsungs 's ICS has not even been close to the battery life I got on Stunner. I'm a little disappointed but not enough to go back to ASOP or GB. Oddly enough I love TW with ICS Elements fused in.

Thats not actually too bad! I reckon i'll give ICS a go and see how it sets in and then take it from they!
p.s. THEY SCREWED HAMILTON OVER ONCE AGAIN! THEY MUST BE A CONSPIRACY AGAINST HIM!

It looks like it drops pretty quickly even when your screen isn't on. Are you sure you don't have wakelock problems? I think your battery life could be better, even without ICS.

This is a noobs question but how do i go about checking wakelock problems? I have CPU spy installed which i check to see whether the phone goes into sleep mode or not, the attachment below is my current state.

Weird. The battery usage should nearly flatline in deep sleep.
Try BetterBatteryStats for checking wakelock issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809

Well i've just downloaded the app, xda edition ofcourse, lets what happens but judging from my deep sleep time, doesn't seem like i have a wakelock issue.
Any settings i need to change in the application or leave it to run its magic?
My battery life is noticably worse in ICS. I'm getting a lot of odd wakelocks that I never saw in GB.
This is my phone . You decide.

Well, if wakelocks aren't the problem.. Then I don't know.. ICS battery life seems better in general, but GB shouldn't be that different (and wasn't for me me I used it). Not that your battery life is bad or anything, but it could be better. Like I said, your phone in deep sleep should hardly use battery at all.
Well looks like I will have to test it out and see the outcome, looks like I shouldn't get my hopes up.

That's pretty much what I get/got before and after ICS.
