[Q] Call blocking - G2 and Desire Z General

I really miss the callblocking from cyanogen damn creditors trying to call me all hours of the day. Is there a way to get that up and running with temp root?

i, too, would love to have this back.

Likewise, blacklist was awesome

I think you can add them as a contact and have it send that number directly to voicemail.
Youmail works good for this as well.

You can use an app in the market called Call Block. You can set a blacklist and have the phone either hang up on them or send it to voicemail. Works on texting as well for those pesky exes ;-) haha

^^^ This. It's an app called Mr. Number Call Block (at least, the one I use is). It's free, and works great. Has an automatic blacklist for suspected spammers, too, like telemarketers and such. Worth a shot.

Just got it and right after install it block a call from someone that I didnt even put on the list.. it just knew.. awesome!!

Call blocking

I am looking to block contacts and add some sort of blacklist program. I have downloaded a number of apps off the market place. But, unlike my old samsung phone which done this like a charm.
When the blocked person calls the phone will ring once and the blocked person phone will 'bring' once. Is there an app that will go straight to answerphone no rings and no brings, like my samsung did.
If you just want the person calling to go straight to answer phone then you can set a hero up to do this without any additional programmes?

mind telling us how exactly?
afaik the app "aFirewall" does exactly this.
I know if I edit my contact there is an option at the bottom, that allows calls from that contact be sent straight to voicemail.
Try Gblocker

wow, you are correct! nice feature, never noticed it. probably not as comfortable as a designated app for this, but at least it is a built-in feature
Callblocker does this.... but you need root.

Comments say it doesn't work on Hero but it does on mine. The people who complained probably didn't root their phones.
Hi,
i have tried both gblocker and afirewall and they all ring once then block the call. Even the in built feature.
Search "SPC" on Market. I'm using it.

How to Block A Number and Text?

How can I block a phone number and text messages? I tried Sprints website and sad to say it doesnt look like it is working.
Any other ideas?
hmm. It worked for me when I had to do that once (from the sprint website)
Did you include the area code with the number? (and leave off the beginning 1?)
I am sure there is a messaging app or something that can do that, but you would most likely still incur usage on you bill (but you probably have unlimited msg... )
Where can I find it on the website again?
if you truley want to block someone just call sprintit takes five mins to do and trust me it def works...lol
Oh awesome, thanks Unsane. I'll do that.
CallFilter in the market will block calls for free and calls and tetxs in the pro version
also if you send a text to 9999 "block 10digit #" that will block texts
I know cyanogen mod has a option to blacklist numbers. Calls will go straight to voicemail. You could try going to your people app and selecting the number you want it to go straight to voicemail (asuming you have the number saved in your contacts) selecting the contact and at the botton youll see the option to send the number straight to voicemail. Not sure if this works for texts.
Sms guard is free in the market
Great app, puts all incoming texts into a folder within the sms guard app, never rings or pops up at all. Set it and forget it
u know sprint cant block people from calling u. U have to use an app or use the blacklist in the people that most of the roms have even the stock
big thanks for the "straight to voicemail" tip, WOW, love this.

That's an option in the stock roms as well. Just a feature Cyanogen carried over.

yea but why bother with an app that takes space then uses a folder that takes space that you wont ever even use?
Vote for callfilter from me. Having unlimited minutes I have it set to pick up/hang up and I never know the person even called unless I go into my call logs which I rarely do.

Use Google Voice and Gmail?

Pretty awesome new feature in my opinion added today!
http://www.google.com/chat/voice/
http://googlevoiceblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/make-and-receive-calls-in-gmail.html
Just used it to make a call. Pretty slick. Bring on the Android app!

Pretty cool, so is this meant to be used on your PC? Or can you place calls for free using gmail on your phone?
I just saw this in my email and had to try it out!
It's pretty neat!
can't wait until we get in on our phones!!!
I've had the google voice phone number on my G1 for about a year and the match ing google voice app. And now have it on my Vibrant. It is really nice.

This is meant to be used on the PC. If you already have google voice, then you just install the new video chat add-on (linked to in first post) and you're all set.
Anyone you call will see your google voice number pop up. You can put in a phone number or the name of one of your google contacts.
This is a good way to communicate with people without having to leave your phone on speaker or break your stride if you're working on the computer.
pretty sweet...doubt Google's going to bring it to phones though and upset the apple cart with carriers
just wanted to know if incoming calls through your google number is free as well?
i know that outbound calls are free through data, but what about incoming calls in which your google voice number is forwarded to your mobile phone when someone calls your google voice number?
is that free or there is charge for that?
thanks a lot , i wish someone could give some clarification on this

Call your GV # from your house phone and find out. I remember trying it out like 2 days ago, I think it uses your carrier's plan minutes.

yes it does uses the airtime minutes, otherwise, it wouldnt have reflected in my recent activity status on my tmobile account.

Easy way to get rid of Voicemail Texts

Send a text message to 9999. For the message, type "block" (no quotes) space, then the four digit number you recieve. (9016, etc.)
This also works for blocking people from texting you. Just put their TEN digit number where you put the original 4 numbers.

This is also cripple Sprint VVM if you use it.
I personally think vvm is ridiculous. I turn off my data, and then I get killed with the annoying text messages that says i have one. I just thought I would share, because it is rather annoying to me lol.

uh-oh... I just did this to get rid of the texts from sprint vvm. I'll see if it still works now
Download SPC (Super-Private Conversation) or RedList from the Market, black/redlist SMS messages from 9016, end thread (and move it too ).
Isn't there a blacklisting feature of phone numbers in CyanognMOD? And could this be used to block 9016, etc... and still have working Sprint VVM?
Well I use youmail Sprint VVM to plain after using youmail I like the idea of giving certain people they're own greeting. BTW thanx used this today blocked an annoying pest and they're msgs
No you can't use anything in cyanogen mod, that I know of. This was the easiest way for me to do it. And my vvm still works too btw.
I know I had to block an ex skank that tried to ruin my relationship, so I typed the annoying ass text messages and what do you know!
Thats good I'm glad I helped.

How to set up your phone for free calling

Ill be in Colombia this time 2mrw, and was wondering how I can set up my phone to make free cals, even if its only locally, without having to get a new sim... any suggestions??
Running Axura 2.1
There are lots of ways to at least get very cheap calling if you're using wifi. If you're using local cell towers, not so much.
Yeah I kno, but how.. wat do I need to do.. I searched and didn't find much
I kind of new at it but im using Google voice. Getting free text messages now. Might want to check it out

Use Sipdroid with Google Voice. Google it. There's a delay and the call quality is sh*tty, but using SIP and something like GV is pretty much the only way.

You get the PIN code when Google calls your phone. You can't sign up for it without a US phone number.

I'm not receiving any calls from Google when trying to open the Google voice. maybe because my text messaging is blocked and i always receive that notification whenever opening GV.
