Hi All,
My Vibrant's USB mode is always turned on even if it is not connected to the PC. Is there a way to turn it off? I have rooted stock ROM.
Thanks
B
Bumping post!!! Please need your help!
Are you sure it's not Settings > SD card and phone storage > Unmount SD card ?
I can't think of what else it would be.
No,
everything seems to be correct. The unmount SD card option is active which means it is not unmounted. I checked the SD and it is seated perfectly. Also when i power it down I cannot start it up... I have to connect to USB charger and start it up in charge mode. Is there a way to turn this off?
Thank you gravis86 for your response.
B
Yes you may be right... I am not able access my SD card or my phone memory via USB... What could be the problem???

Had same issue, did you get the JI6 update?? That was supposed to help with the "known defect" when i called and talked with tech support. Of course, i couldn't get the update since i was on a third party ROM. Downloaded Bionix 1.9.1 since it had the update built in and have been good since. Hope this helps!
Hi.. Thank you for your response.. Is it possible to fix it if I flash it with a new ROM? Or is it becuse of hardware issue?
Thanks
B
Hey topgun I had a problem like this when I bought my phone and a hard reset fixed it. Since then I've been flash happy

Well, if you have odin it won't hurt to try Bionix Final with the JI6 update built in and if that doesn't work you can always call TMO, odin back to stock and then trade it for the replacement they sent you. But in my case a new flash was all it took. Been over a week now without the issue where as before it was an everyday annoyance.
This is a common issue and is solved by cleaning the USB port.

i am in desperate need of help i tried giving my pops a hand with his vibrant since he sees all the stuff i do to my nexus..i flashed the stock firmware from jac and the phone will not boot...well actually i get the tmobile splash...the vibrant splash..and the s animtion..problem is after that i guess the phone just hangs...the screen nvr turns on..i press the capacitive buttons and they light up but nothing on th screen and i cant get it to turn on...now i dont believe its bricked cause i can get into recovery and into download mode..i tried flashing through odin about three times...everything goes through..the phone resets..goes through the boot screens but after that nothing comes up...backtracking for a min...the whole reason i tried to flash the stock jac firmware was because i went into rom manager and tried to partition the sdcard..when i hit partition the phone rebooted and nothing would come up..i am assuming that it reformatted the internal card..needless to say thats when i tried flashing the stock and this is where im stuck at...i would really appreciate some help..and hopefully this will stop anyone else from running into this issue...do not try to partition the sdcard from rom manager..i hope i have described this in enough detail...thanks
looks like someone might owe his daddy a new phone.
Get ready for a spanking.
If my dad were still alive he would probably murder me if I ever bricked his new 200 dollar phone.
Just kidding. I hope you get it working bro. If not, try to exchange it. Say you don't know what happened to it, you turned it off and let it charge overnight and when you woke up to turn it on, this happened. Have tears in your eyes. They'll exchange it for you

I agree with this. If you dad goes in, T-mo won't think "This old dude must have hacked it!" They'll exchange it right away and even apologize to him.

have you tried to manually remove the partition and see if it boots? or try to boot without the sdcard?
what I did was flash Eugenes Froyo rom which worked well, then I re-flashed the stock rom. Now it works just like before.

could u explain to me how to do that..i would appreciate it..cuz i kind of think it has to be a problem with partitions..also another thing i noticed is when the phone reboots and goes into recovery in red letters data wipe says fail..i have also tried both pit files 512 and 513..evrything thing works gets past boot screens but the screen doesnt come on
If You try to partition with Rom manager it partitions the internal sd and you will brick your phone. Your screen will be black with only the capacative buttons glowing. This brick is possibly the more annoying ones where you have to flash your phone twice. If you have this problem don't panic like i did.
*REMOVING EXTERNAL SD CARD MIGHT IMPROVE ODIN CHANCES OF WORKING*(Thanks Hoey2011 for mentioning this)
Step 1: Download all files from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
PUt them in a safe spot you will need them for later.
Step 2: Download files from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740558
Step 3: HAVE ODIN OPENED FIRST!!(This helped it detect my phone for some reason)Get phone into download mode. The easiest way to do this is pull out battery from phone. Then plug phone into usb connected to computer it will have the battery sign. Hold volume keys and power button when the screen goes black let go of power button. You will be in download mode if Odin doesn't detect it unplug usb and replug it.
Step 4: Once Odin has recognized your phone set the pit file and .tar file FROM EUGENE'S 2.2 THREAD. NOT THE FIRST LINK THE SECOND LINK. Then click start. And follow all the directions on his thread.
Step 5: Once you have flashed that rom you put your phone in download mode again and set up the pit and .tar file for Stock 2.1. After you finish flashing it your phone should be saved!
Thanks to Eugene373, justanothercrowd and anomalous3(for being patient and helping me out when I had this problem) And to anyone else that helped me solve this problem.
Thanx for being the guinea pig. Glad you got it back working.
Yea It was a ***** tho. Spent at least 4 hrs fixing it. But glad its working
Wow that sucks well thanks for the write up.
I was in the same boat as you and as I was downloading 2.2 to try I found your thread. Works like a charm! Thanks for the info on this. I guess I shouldn't read threads backwards from now on, huh?
ok so I've been following this method, and got eugene's 2.2 loaded up correctly, and rebooted back into download mode. The 2.2 files loaded just fine through odin, but now that I'm flashing 2.1, it seems hung on the cache.rfs.
I am gonna go smoke a blunt or two and come back and see how it's progressed, but this hang is the same issue I had before, on my windows 7 64bit machine. I figured it was a compatibility problem so I'm using my old busted vista machine. I've gotten further on the vista laptop than the W7 one, but I'm still hung.
How long should the 2nd loadup take??
I am almost at my wits end with this stupid mistake I made and hope is such a far stretch
ok, so i continued my use of the search tool here at xda and found my answer
I had my MicroSD card in my phone, hadn't even thought to remove it. I have moved past the cache.rfs file and am now waiting to see the results....
IT WORKED OMG OMG OMG
Xda forums almost ruined my phone, then brought it back from the dead
god i love equlibrium
Good info thanks for posting it, but one thing I would like to point out and I am not alone in feeling this way people are throwing the.word brick around and far to casually. You did not brick your phone by partitioning it the proof is that you fixed your phone. Bricking a phone is wheb youbrender the phone usless as a brick when it is totally broken and unfixable. I dont mean to nitpick i just hate seeing everyone that makes a mistake in anything crying wolf and claiming to have bricked. But my rant aside thanks for the very usefull info you mightvwanna pass it on to koush so he can fix it.

I did exactly this and I was so frustrated that I sent my phone back to tmobile and just purchased a new one. I don't know about yall but if there are two storage points (internal and external) there should be an option for both in default recovery because when I tried to partition the external sd card *in which i was able to execute on my nexus one* it was very easy but because I use clockwork recovery and did a rom backup, i guess the backup zip wasn't safe because I received the same results as you. There should be 2 options to choose from that says *internal storage, External SD Card* why make things difficult? lol
The manufacturers need to be a little more intuitive.
*this is my opinion*

Ah crap, that's right, /sdcard is mapped to the *internal* sd card on the phone, and that's what is partitioned. I'll disable partitioning on the phone (external SD card is not accessible in recovery).

I haven't tried partitioning, but the card's /dev/block/mmcblk1p* entries are there and I can mount them. That's how the dc2ext hack works. It mounts /sd-ext and /data to do the copies and it does it in recovery.

I have had serious issues with Odin hanging on my WIn 7 32bit system. However, I think I was actually doing it wrong. I was booting my phone to download mode then plugging it in to my computer. However, I have had continued success (tried a bunch last night) by doing this:
Open Odin, take out the battery, plug in USB cord to phone and computer, hold vol up+down, put in battery. Whenever I booted into Download Mode this way, Odin worked perfect every time. Turns out after cursing my computer it was user error, whoops .

turns out, the system wasn't the finicky piece of equipment, it was the phone and the odin software. I inadvertently left the sd card in the phone, the external one, and that was causing my hangs. Two more tries after pulling the sd card, I had success and was back to my phone again

YEa I guessed as much thats why I was trying not to "flame" and to be informative you are a victim of exactly what I am talking about. Because so many people throw around the word brick anytime anything goes wrong not only is it losing its meaning but people are also getting confused.
This does work, it took me about 7 hours last night to fix it.
I will say if it does not work then keep trying.
My flash kept freezing on the froyo rom and would not finish, so I actually had to try and flash the full captivate stock rom (search the captivate forum) it froze but afterwords it let me go throught the whole flash process with Eugenes 2.2 rom, then flashed right back to 2.1 no prob.
I will also say that if you are on a x64 system then go find a x86 (32 bit) system. I dont know why but it just works better.
So if it doesnt work then do this:
1. Make sure you are on a 32 bit system.
2. Flash a Full Rom from the Captivate forum. (It has a more to it I believe, changes the system maybe?)
3. If it freezes that is ok. Flash the 2.2 rom. (might need to do it a couple times)
4. After successful flash then go to stock.
This needs a sticky!!!!!!!!!
I just did this. Wish I would have seen this thread first!
I'm having a really hard time getting to download mode. Read all the threads I could find on it.
Any ideas? Download mode isn't removed when partitioning with rom manager is it?
I'm trying not to freak out...

After fighting with it I found out this worked best for me:
Battery out
Plug in USB cord to the phone and PC
Hold Vol up and down
Put the battery in
Phone should boot right into download mode.
Also, I found you should have Odin open FIRST before you do this. If I didn't I would have constant issues with Odin hanging.
Hey all this is a very serious thread... before i start i better state that this is very likely a hardware problem... here goes!
ok my phone is refusing to mount my sdcard. Im no noob so i tried everything i could think of before i post this. I already cleaned the mount points on the phone and made sure the clip is tight so the sdcard does not "slide" about and mess with the connection. I also checked that the sdcard is fine, used a pc to access it and i also used my bros gt540 too. I tried using another sdcard on my phone but to no success. Recovery also does not detect it (install from zip and mounting it from the mount menu)
My guess would be LG service? But even so i would not, warranty ended awhile back and my father has already spent enough on it. I was planning to use it as my secondary phone in the near future but i guess not. Why? What good is a android phone without a sdcard? Cant do much with internal memory. Im now only able to use fastboot for flashing and modding... god dammit... Open to advice and tips you guys might have.

I have one method that might solve this problem, but its risky.

com on i think its worth the risk.
WAIT! maybe its the roms fault. cause some roms have se mount problems
try changing the rom to something more stable and fully fixed!
tried all the fastboot roms i had, same.
I heard that there is a flexy cable connected to board from sdcard unit. May be it just unplugged. I think you can open the case. There are a lot of tutorial of opening the case. So you should try it man

Lol, u should try flashing KDZ, I've many times and never bricked (idk how bricked it becomes) so dar I've been stuck on kernel panic about 5 times!
Another thing u could do is make an SD repair trough your PC… a month ago I got another SD, and had to format it many times cause it didn't work… then I notice the card Reader was blocked (the Lil blister switch) and yet, after switching it, didn't work… so just Re installed the rom and also fixed the SD card trough PC, and voilá, it's fixed!…
U should try Kdz. Its not that bad xd

First, some info about the phone. It's a SCH-I545, I rooted it the day I got it (I forget which method), still running stock, and it's been running great for months.
But a week or so ago, I grabbed my phone to use it, and noticed it was on the Android system recovery screen. So I pulled the battery a couple of times to restart, and every time it's same thing.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this, or what I can do?
Thanks

Mate ,
If every time reboot into recovery it may be soft bricked , did you try factory reset it? if that does not work you may have to reflash your rom again , if you are stock you have to use Odin
Can you enter download mode? If so flash custom recovery with odin (philz is best) download custom rom and put on external storage then Flash custom rom with new recovery

Thanks for the advice! Sadly, the usb port on my phone stopped working awhile back (I have to use an external battery charger), so I'm probably out of luck if flashing is the only way to go. I know there probably isn't one, but do you know of any way to flash something from sd?

You can flash a ROM from the SD card, but not recovery.
IF the USB port is fried and you can't get it to boot to the ROM, then I don't think you could get recovery on it.

Holy...CRAP.
I dismissed your advice about buttons at first, but a few hours later when I was dismantling my phone for the hundredth time during the two weeks that it's been broken, I decided that it couldn't hurt to check. Sure enough, disassembled, all the internal buttons are fine.
The buttons on the phone's outter shell, however? Totally bent. I straighten them out, put it all back together, and power it on. And it WORKED.
Dear friend, and I do consider you a friend, you gave me back something I thought I had lost, something I couldn't afford to replace.
