not released in Canada!!! - XPERIA X2 General

So my X2 died completely about 2 months ago. I went to the store where I got it to find out that they have no refund/return policy. The guy promised to send it back to Hong Kong,,, but I doubt that he ever even sent it (no paperwork..nothing). And then he says it's LCD issue and I have to pay $150 ... sounds fishy, doesn't it? Anyway, I went to Flextronics in Newmarket and they can't do anything because it's not a Canadian model and it's never been released here!!! kill me now!!!
So what the heck do I do now? Any help/suggestions? Can I send it anywhere?
Or just forget it, curse SE and recycle this piece of ****?

well basically SE X2 is a luxury phone and it should have internationall warranty
if you baought this phone with papers from that shop you should really sue that guy
if not maybe if you better describe the fault we can help you
have you tried calling SE Support line to get some knoledge about where u could reapair it near you?

There is nothing to describe really. I did hard reset bc you know X2 is a living hell and in the middle of it, it just turned off. The light doesn't flash when charging, doesn't turn on...it's just dead
I contacted the SE Canada. They said I have to send it to US bc X2 is a Grey Market phone and cannot be fixed in Canada. And the service costs $185 + I have to give them US address to ship it back
So much for the luxury phone with international warranty. FML! Never ever buying SE again!!!!!!

Dude this happened to me as well, and se replaced it for me for free. Yes they gave me a new phone, which was another x2.
You should contact se themselves and explain for them the problem. They will ask you for the invoice and IDME number, after that you just need to wait for a while, maybe 2- 3 weeks and they should ship you your new phone.
The very cool thing about xperia phones is that they have an international warranty so you should take the advantage of such thing.

Where did you call?

Phone not working/warranty not honoured/Advice?

Hey all the story is this:
I had been using the JASJAR for a couple of months now and suddenly the phone (and I mean only the phone) has stopped working....What happens is that with my Vodafone SIM card I get signal but I cannot make or receive calls....When they call me they get voicemail, when I try to call the phone tries to make a call but after 30 seconds I get ' Call ended'.
I have even upgarded the device to the ROM given by imate and still the same thing happens....The green light flashes but it looks to people calling me that the phone is off.
I contacted Expansys where the phone was bought from and they advised to contact SBE which is imate's service center. I did and they kindly offered to have the phone picked up by courrier and have a look at it. They did and after a week or so they came back with a quote for 100+ pounds for replacing the phones main board! They said that warranty will not cover it because ' it is out of warranty according to the manufacturing date'.
I of course freaked out and spoke to imate on-line support and they advised me that the excuse will not stand and that all phones are covered by their date of purchase and that I should write an email to imate support explaining the situation. I did and the reply outraged me even more....
They said that the spoke to the service center and that they advised them that "it has been verified that the coaxial cable on the device is faulty and this is considered as a physical damage." The phone had NO damage when it left me and it has never suffered any....
Has this happened to anyone before? What should I do next? They provide lame excuses and they do not honour their warranty....Are they just trying to make more money out of me? Any advise will be appreciated and if anyone has taken a case like this to a cunsumers right association I will be glad to hear from them....I am not willing to give this up...
Thank you in advance,
Argy
PS I have all email and on-line chat on file for anyone that does not believe it....
i had a simaler problem with my a1000 which i got from 3uk
i ended up paying off my contract about the 6month mark and a few month later the phone stopped charging,
i assumed motorola would fix it being the manufacture but they said its outsourced to 3 and they handle all the repairs.
i rang 3uk and they asked me for my account number i advised them that i was no longer a coustomer as i payed off my contract but the phone was still under the 12 manufactures warantie.
they said they wouldnt even look at it as i was no longer a 3uk coustomer and that i would have to speak to motorola, motorola said exactly the oposate and that as it was a 3uk phone it was up to them to fix it.
after numerous calls and letters both from myself and consumer rights nothing was done and eventualy the 12 month past ......
i have it as a paper weight now lol
not relervant to your story but it might help somone else
good look ... dont let them screw you over

If you bought the phone from Expansys then (in theory) your contract is with them, not with SBE or I-Mate or anybody else.
Expansys should honour their contract with you and provide warranty cover, not refer you to someone else.
I'm no expert in consumer contract law (so I could be wrong) but I believe this to be the case. If it was a mail-order purchase then your rights should be even stronger, I think.
Your best bet might be to contact a Citizens Advice Bureau and find out what their opinion is. I'd have thought they'd examine the small print of your contract with Expansys and then tell you whether you have a valid warranty claim against them or not.
Good luck.
if you paid originally for it on your credit card, they might be able to help aswell.

I bought the phone as a SIM free phone and not with a contract so I guess this makes things even worse.....but it was a mail order.... To be honest I think we are all totally screwed when it comes to dealing with this kind of problems....they will always say that the fault is ours and we can do nothing to prove it....

I meant your contract of sale, not the monthly contract for the talkplan.
When you buy something from someone, you make a contract with them. In your case your contract was with Expansys and they have a legal obligation to support reasonable claims of items being unfit for purpose or not in working order.
I contacted Expansys, lets see what they have to say now....
Anyone know of any consuner rights group that might be able to help?
Thanx

The UK Government has a website that might help:
http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/
You can call them for a chat too. Might be worth a try.
Or put "uk consumer rights" into Goooooogle and see what comes up.
One interesting paragraph on this page says:
No excuses
The law says it's up to the seller to deal with complaints about defective goods or other failures to comply with your statutory rights. Don't accept the excuse that "It's the manufacturer's fault," although you might also have additional rights against the manufacturer under a guarantee.
Think twice before you buy from a trader who displays a 'no refunds' notice. It is against the law, unless it also tells you that this does not affect your statutory rights .

I think Expansys have some wriggle room on the guarantee if in the small print of their terms and conditions (that you read and agreed to when you bought the Universal, right? ) it says that they're acting as agents to the manufacturer only. I think that kinda gets them out of warranty obligations and means your contract of sale would be with whoever they mention in their T&Cs. I've never bought from them though, so I've no idea how they operate.

You are right, I did a bit of searching in some goverment sites and it states that when they act like agents you cannot blame them for anything....you have to take it up with the manufacturer.

Final Update!!
Since neither i-mate nor SBE would reply to any mails I finally paid for the repair of the phone. The guy I spoke to on the phone admited that they have a lot of Jasjars in for repairs and at most of them the warranty is not honoured....
This is a warning for all people wanting to buy one! DONT! The warranty will not be honoured in case it breaks down and i-mate is only good for advertising.....
DO NOT BUT THE JASJAR!
Would it be the same case trying to get warrenty for the O2 version?
I have had a similar problem and have had enough of O2 and need some advice. 2 months ago I plugged the charger into my XDA Exec and the charger port got pushed back into the phone. So I was a bit annoyed that this would happen but I took it to the O2 shop who said it's not a problem and as the phone hasn't even been out a year it will be under warranty and should be no more than 3 weeks being repaired.
After four weeks I got a phone call saying that it wasn't under warranty and that the cost for repair would be £350 because they had to replace some sort of chip. I know this isn't true as the phone worked perfectly it just couldn't be charged. So I said I would not pay this and I wanted it returned. After a week still no sign of the phone I called O2 to tell them the whole story and they said that it could be repaired under the warranty and it wasn't a problem, I just had to send it straight to the repair centre without going through the shop.
I sat and waited until today 2 months after the phone originally broke and it got delivered back to the O2 shop.
I think it's disgusting that this has happened and wondered what my next plan of action should be??

If you paid for the repair then sue them for not repairing - find their local trading standards office in the UK to complain to, complain to your VISA company etc etc.
Do you have anyone in the UK who can do this for you?
Richard
rICHARD,
I told them that I did not get what I paid for and I am expecting a repair. They came back saying that they do provide warranty for all repairs they make so they will accept it back and repair it without any more cost for me....
The only thing to do is wait and see....I will post back any news....
Why not report them for piracy to HTC / Microsoft? I am led to believe loading a rom from one manufacturer onto another's device amounts to software piracy as your software was bought from i-mate and you now have Qtek's O.S.....
Expansys
I bought mine through expansys you have to show proof of purchase, you can get this by emailing expansys or digging up your old email confirmation. The rest of your problem seem to be bs.
1.) email I-mate [email protected]
2.) If I-mate gave you an rma number you don't pay for anything
3.) once you get you phone in prepare to wait
argyris,
Have you tried to insert another SIM card in the phone?
I have this weird problem with the JJ. I have 2 SIM's with 2 different Operators. The JJ works just fine with one SIM .....
BUT, when I insert the other SIM, I can make calls normally, but I can receive only ONE call (i mean it, ONE), after that the damn thing won't receive calls anymore!
After trying to make calls for several times it does work, but again, one incoming call and that's it.
I tried that SIM in the 8800, it works just great.
Anybody has an idea on what's going on?
Thank you guys..

no wonder SonyEricsson going to the toilet!!

i sent in my X1 for repair 2 weeks ago (that' 14 days ago), my phone is unable to charge.
i called them today why i still havnt got my phone back yet, they said they "waiting for parts".
WTF! i bought a 800$ dollars phone and they cant even send me a replacement, like a refurbish X1??
waiting for parts to get my X1 fixes, this could take another month!

I am not so sure i would like a refurbished X1i, i would rather get them to fix it instead of getting one with unknown history.
maybe they just don't like you. i had to send mine in for a part replacement and i got it back in 7 days
good thing is i just call vodafone, tell them my phone is borked, and the next day i get a new one.
thats service ^^
SonyEricsson service is really terrible!
how can they expect people to buy another SE phone when they dont even send a replacement phone while phone is being repair!
That's the thing with service people..... treat them right and you will get good service. Treat them like crap and that's what you get back from them.
Works the same way with any company
For fixing the crack problem, I got my X1 back in less than 1 week once they received it.
just called them again about what taking them so long to repair my X1a, they got my phone since 1/8/2009, that' 18 days now!
they say they waiting for "parts" and have no ETA for the parts.
i dont want to wait a month, 2 months or a year to get my phone back!
and they refuse to send me a replacement X1a!
if i dont get my phone back in 30days, i will contact TV stationS to do a story about SonyEricsson B.S service!

every freaking time i call them, they give me this B.S excuss, "we waiting on parts".
and when i asked them when will parts arrive?
they said "we have no idea"
WTF! no idea? they are the freaking manufacturer and they have no idea??
ok, HTC made the phone, all they have to do is call and ask htc!
instead of giving me this BS excuss everytime "we waiting on parts" and "we have no idea"!
so i told them to send back my freaking phone! haha
i should get it back in 5 days.
Thank you Sony Ericsson, u just lost yourself a customer forever!

Were you satisfied with SE's service after replacing/repairing your X1?

So I've been reading the "let us file a complain to SE..." thread lately cuz well...you guess it...my phone developed a crack.
Anyway, I did see that some people have been getting "reconditioned units" that look worse than the ones they already have.
So, how many of you guys have had problems with the service offered by SE/Authorized dealers?
Really interested in this poll, since I just let my X1 to an authorized center...
However, I must admit that I am really unsatisfied with the repai time: they told me that I have to wait 15 working days! Man, what was the premium price for?!
I sent my phone in Tuesday and they still haven't received the phone even though the service center is 35miles away from here...
Add 3-5 working days to get my phone fixed plus another week to get my phone back...so I think I'm there as well
I got back the same phone after I sent it in for a software glitch that I failed repairing myself. It got back in exactly the same condition and earlier than I had thought.
My X1's screen started blacking out when slid open, so I reluctantly sent it in, having heard a lot about cracked plastics and scratched battery covers.
I got it back in just 3 days, which is apparently unusual even for SE service here. No extra scratches or damage.
Oh, and they didn't notice the Hard-SPL...
Well - i got my replacement through vodafone so it doesnt really count
Reading some of the Dutch Forums (e.g. tweakers.net), the average time is 6 weeks for Netherlands. Some poor guy waited 19 weeks.
http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/1326523/20
That's almost HALF A YEAR.
Mine had stylus crack, battery crack, chipped case in three places.
4 weeks since I sent it in, and counting..
OMFG!
How is that possible???
Jeez man...4 weeks? How is it that you haven't killed them already?
If I don't have it by the end of next week I'm gonna drive there myself and have a talk with them...
wow....this is pathetic.
some of the buttons arent working smoothly these days..which means i am screwed if i send it for repair
seems im d only one wit a good story bout this..i got my phone back like 4 days
I sent my x1 to service because left-right buttons plus all other front buttons and touchpad were getting dead.i have to wait 15 min and reset phone 5 or 10 times to get device normal.f*ck sake!i am on contract with my service provider.they said i must wait minimum 2weeks just for answer REPAIR or Change.afterwards i must wait another 2weeks for repair or get new unit.i am gonna have big fight with SE.i am very disapointed.i am not gonna buy any other sony products even sony movies films
I went to a Vodafone store with repair service. Somehow they are authorized to repair phones for warranty. I only had to show my phone, they ordered the parts and they texted me when they received the parts. Then I could wait for it on location while they repaired my phone. I think that's a great service but it's more thanks to Vodafone. I live in the Netherlands, The Hague.

Hmmm, yes, so:
- SE repair service sucks
- Vodafone is great
But I really think that 4weeks is the maxiimum amout of time I would wait for a repair, not just a phone repair but whatever else. Never experienced a repair time longer than 4 weeks, and I would have been really upset hearing about 19 weeks!!!
But what about the repaired phone? Apart from Vodafone people, in ehat condition were your "new" phone? can you be more verbose than the poll?

Hmmm, u were lucky. This is what the Netherlands is like most of the time Mine was out of contract, but the problem is not the shop I went through in Rotterdam - been getting my phones from them for a few years now. I suspect it's the guys in NL who bought the service contract from Sony.

Perfectly repaired, but unfortunately now, a month later, I have 3 cracks. The parts are in so I have to go to the store again. I don't want to go to the store twice every month...
Well,
I brought my phone to an SE Service Center around my Corner. The Display shaked a little. I brought it in on the 7.5.09
Those guys sent the phone to the Xperia guys. Seems that only some people can fix it.
Well, I have not got it back yet. :-(
So I called the Xperia line. The told me, that they did not received it yet...
But the guy was friendly. He is now starting to find my phone. We will see what happens.
Cheers

SONYERICSSON or a Network Provider???
Come on, in order for this poll to have any impact or make any sense, it should include at least WHICH Country and if SE direct or through a Service/Network Provider! Otherwise its just hot air!
I waited 5/6 weeks for my replacement to arrive aftre the sound went completely.
After SE took delivery initially I received an email to let me know it had arrived. Then nothing for a week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks and so on and so on.
The tracking website was never updated and I never received emails updating me on the progress. I phoned them all the time.
After 5/6 weeks I received a refurbished phone which [TBH] is in better condition than the phone I sent for repair, no consolation really.
Yea...WHAT tracking site? They never even acknowledged the fact that they received it. I had to phone today, to find out they got it on Friday. Even though I ASKED to be informed when they would actually get it...nada.
Anyway, when I talked to the representative and told him I want my phone repaired not replaced (because mine is scratch free and in perfect condition otherwise) he was like..."OH...we'll see what we can do"
People, how hard is to replace a back cover???
But I suppose it's good business taking good scratch free phones and replacing them with "functionally equivalent" but with cosmetic damaged ones...
@michaelthemage
The poll specifies SE Service.
And how many countried would you have included in the poll?
In my opinion, in makes no relevance what country you are in (even though I KNOW there are big differences between SE service centers). SE Service is a global thing, having an international warranty (at least European for me) so in my opinion the quality of their services should be viewed as a whole.
I for one bought my phone in France but since I'm doing an internship in the UK I sent it to Banbury.
So I do think the poll does make sense and I give thanks to all who have voted/will vote and who told me their SE related stories.
I got a global warranty card with my phone but it wasn't much help when my screen died. It is supposed to be a vip service for X1 owners where you can get a replacement phone the same day at any SE service center. Not quite. If you're in a place where they don't sell it, don't expect SE in your home country to send one to the service center you're visiting, they will not, period. And if you look close at the support site there's a somewhat hidden page that shows country by country what is (not-) available.
I shipped it off with fedex to the dealer, who said they will send one in return asap if I paid the courier. It cost me about 100 usd. When they received it, they changed their mind and said they needed the original box and booklets... and they couldn't just replace the phone (ten days since I bought it) and let me send the stuff when I returned home. Cheers...
That said, when I could deliver the box I got a new phone right away from the dealer. SE had no desire to help at all.
I don't like buying phones from operators, rather be free to choose who bills me for the calls, but if the operators service team are better at customer care, I may just do that next time.

They do not ask any questions about your relations with Bell or any other provider. But they still need to have proof of purchase.
PS.
They are little bit hard to find, since they are behind this Audio/Video center across Ikea.
I wish there were a walk in service for Toronto too
FutureTel will not accept walk-ins, they only deal with Lawyers... i mean... Dealers
Can we 100% confirm that Samsung Canada office here at Toronto isn't a service centre and does not take customers? or maybe they just don't do cellphones?
Also, my question is....
If I have a 2nd hand Samsung Galaxy S without proof of purchase under my name or receipt. Yet have service with Bell Mobility, will the Samsung Canada @ Montreal repair centre accept the phone for warranty service?
What do you think?

Appears to be the case, unfortunately. (See http://futuretel.ca/where.html)
If mine died (fingers crossed it doesn't, but it's survived multiple flashes so I have reasonable hope), I'd drive out there anyway and scream and yell to get it fixed. Then again, I like to take the brute force way to get stuff done.
I left my old phone today morning at 10:30 and picked up a new one at 14:30.
They gave me a completely new phone with Froyo already installed.
No questions asked, very fast service.

For those who are interested in Samsung service center in Montreal here is the address for in-warranty and out-of-warranty, they service everything Samsung, not only the phones:
Samsung - Service Absolut
3391 Griffith Street,
St. Laurent, Quebec,
H4T 1W5
514-738-8333
They do not ask any questions about your relations with Bell or any other provider. But they still need to have proof of purchase.
PS.
They are little bit hard to find, since they are behind this Audio/Video center across Ikea.

This is going to make my holidays!!! I have a SGS with dead sd card and it's second hand. I have the receipt but it's a renewal invoice under the name of someone else and didn't want to go to bell as I'm a client and have already send another SGS for repair under my name. I need to have this one repaired (replaced) so I can sell it.
I am very PEEVED to say the least. I purchased the samsung galaxy when it first came out (end of August 2010) had the phone for less than 2 months then it was toast! It burnt my hand...screen went dead with a bunch of pixels on screen and burnt the screen. Now Samsung Absolut outfit in Montreal kept it for 2 months plus trying to figure out what was wrong, after me bugging my carrier almost everyday to find out where my phone is Absolut decided they could not diagnose the problem or what happened to the phone....supposedly they sent it to Samsung stating they could not fix, Samsung said they would replace the phone and still NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!! Tried looking for their phone number but Bell Aliant says they never pick the phone up....what is up with that??? Great customer service!!!!!!NOT~!!!!
Sorry it is a Samsung Galaxy Vibrant phone..

I forgot to ask one important thing...
How did Samsung service your phone?
Did they do a software fix?
or
Did they had to replace a hardware ?
They took my old phone and gave me a brand new one. Free of charge, nothing to pay.
woha wait there, I've sent my phone to Futuretel over a month ago and there is a place in Montreal that will do that on the spot !??? WHAT ? damn it...
anyone else tried them ?
Thank you Happy Hunter for the service center info
My situation was, 3 days after upgrading to Froyo, I got a few FC and after rebooting my SGS, it was stuck after the S logo. Tried to downgrade firmware, clear cache, formatted memory, nothing worked, and the phone wouldn't start up after all that.
So i went to the service center tonight, since it was late there was no technician, so I'll have to wait the next day to know how long it'll take to repair.
I had no proof of sale, since I bought my SGS off someone. The receptionist asked me which provider I was, I said Rogers, and asked if it was unlocked, I said yes and I bought the unlock code off Bell. And asked what happened to the phone.
That's all, the receptionist looked nice, they are aware of that problem.
I'll call tomorrow to see the status of my phone and let you guys know.
Btw, I noticed that on my receipt, it said day of purchase 1/30/10, so i assume that's the date the give to people without invoice, so for those that are like my, with no invoice, pray that your phone breaks before that date

Awesome,
Please do let us know how your process of them taking your phone in work out.
Because like many others, I also bought my phone as 2nd hand and do not have receipt and I also am using with Rogers.
So I am interested in knowing how Samsung will treat you.
Please keep us updated.

Just got a replacement unit yesterday from that samsung repair shop with froyo already installed. Drop my unit in the morning an got a new one in the afternoon.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
hey guys, just a lil update on my case (see post #12)
I just called the service center, they told me they have to order a part to be replaced in my SGS and that it'll take a couple of days. So I guess I'll have my mainboard replaced. Therefore no new cell phone for me

New phone doesn't always mean good, right/? maybe replacement board is a new revision or something. You never know.
Anyways, so you are saying that Montreal location will accept Galaxy S even if you do not have a receipt ?
Do they care if the phone is unlocked? or which carrier you are with ?
Were you told that the entire service will be free or charge too?
Let us know when you get your phone back.
Now if only there was one of these in Vancouver.

Just got my son´s X10i replaced by S/E.. :-)

Hi there...
My son have a X10i, that originally was branded with Danish 3...
Now at some point we decided to debrand it, root it and last but not least put in muiu and other roms and in the end the newest Android 2.3 from S/E...
Then the speaker died, and then the USB died...
I took it back to the store, and they send it, first to their own repair center, and then to a S/E repair center becource they could not repair it...
S/E decided then to replace the phone with a brand new one, and offcource with new warrnety...
The new phone he recived is a generic phone also with android 2.3.3...
So not allways when you root/debrand/whatever, the warrenty is lost...
last year my X10's USB broke...i called Orange and they said they asked couple of questions like did i had water spilled..etc etc and then they asked me to take the replacement phone after 3 days,,which i got...never gave the phone for repair or to sony centre...in 3 days it was replaced and ofcourse it was all rooted and modded.
I fear I am about to get into a heated discussion on this very topic tomorrow. Mine has been away for repair twice now. The second time it was sent to SE who decided to replace it. They have told me the IMEI number of the replacement phone (which will not arrive until tomorrow) and it corresponds to.....................................X10 Mini. WTF! North American spec apparently......if these IMEI analysis sites are to be believed.
I feel a small claims court case coming on.
Imagine taking your BMW in for a service. All done sir, here are the keys to your new Trabant!

ahahaah! hilarious, but these sites are not to be 100% trusted. and i dont think SE will make such a mistake (only on rare occasions)
Well, we shall see. The analysis of my other phones' IMEI numbers is spot on................................................make, model, age etc.
yeah i remember one guy was waiting for the replacement and he got an arc when he opened the box :O
yeah, if i still had warranty now they would replace it with the arc for me since my provider no longer sells x10's
