Hey guys just realized that my Atrix is draining battery even when my phone is powered off. I turn it off for about 2 hours and when I turn it back on I've lost 2%. Nothing too significant but was wondering is this normal because I've never noticed something like this on all the other phones before.

What app are you using to read the battery in 1% increments?
One idea is that the built in battery monitor only displays in 10% increments so if you have a battery monitor that uses 1% then that is because it is directly reading the mV and not using the system default. So what probably happened was, the battery monitor you were using hadn't refreshed before turning the phone off. I use Circle Battery Widget and I have noticed it goes up a few percentages or down a couple when I do a reboot.
The boot up process is probably responsible for that drain in battery.

That could be it as well.
Im using Circle Battery Widget to display in 1% increments. From what I've seen it is pretty spot on since I've watched it.go down to 1% and then my phone shuts off.
But I have thought that the reboot process would take up some battery just didn't know how much...

nothing is using power when your phone is off its just your phone reading the battery wrong when you restart. i get this all the time with my captivate when i reboot, sometimes i loose a few percent and sometime up to 20%. this is not permanent and will be fine after the next recharge.

You also have to remember that any battery monitor is not going to be 100% accurate so even a 2% margin error is still pretty good
why are you powering off anyways? Even if you do, you can always just pull the battery just to make sure...
Actually I think I have that problem too... Powered off my Atrix last night at 22% (using circle battery widget) & took out the Battery and SIM card so I could play around with my N1 again. 12 hours later, I put everything back in, power up my Atrix, and it reads at 14% battery life. And I'm pretty sure the phone doesn't need 7-8% battery to just power up...
My Atrix battery was completely left alone, not even inside the phone during those 12 hours. What's up with that?

Circle Battery Widget has to use its own method for reading the battery level and it also doesn't refresh constantly. The other day my meter dropped from 72 to 66 instantaneously while I was using the phone. It's the nature of the beast.
Thanks for all the feedback...
2% doesnt seem like that big of deal but I really actually wanted to understand the inner workings on the phone then really complain about the widget or the phone...
I have to power off the phone when I'm at work because I don't get reception at work so 8 hours of my phone searching for network = no good for my battery life lol
To me circular battery widget used to be point on, but after the update this week, it seems to show flaws. My widget displayed 69% for over an hour yesterday. I was browsing the internet, texting, and talked on the phone for a few minutes, so I know it wasn't correct. Then I checked status in settings, the phone said 50%. So even if I was @ 59% or 54%, thats nowhere near 69%.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
Hey guys,
I'm sure most of you know about the Battery Calibration app on the market.
For most of you, calibrating at 100% charge should significantly increase battery life.
After playing around, it seems that the phone can't seem to "keep" a sustained "track record" in battery life over the days and repeated charging.
Once calibrated the first time, battery life seems to be exceptional. Allowing the phone to die and charging again without calibration seems to degrade the battery life yet again. It's definitely something with the batterystats file.
Also, once calibrated, if your phone is charged (lets say from 25%) to give yourself some extra juice, and you do not hit 100%, remaining battery life seems to suffer.
I've repeated this multiple times as well. Last night, I charged from 25% to 54% and my phone couldn't keep a good charge and dropped to 19% with light usage in about 2 hours.
The Point: Calibrate your battery every time you hit a 100% charge. (For me, each morning). By doing this, I've went from 6-8hrs of total battery time to about 22-30hrs.
I've even managed to squeeze out 2.5hrs of display time as well.
Maybe the dev of the app should add an automated scheduling feature, or one that calibrates every time the device hits 100%.
Hope this helps!
Im going to try this, charge is at 80% so i'll throw it on charger, and then calibrate at 100. I hate how the battery in this phone is so sporadic, i've only gotten 30 hours out of it once. and never again.

Made a huge difference for me, give it a shot.
charged to 100% and then calibrated the battery, i will update you on how it fairs, and what kind of usage i do. I usually am pretty low on battery by the time im on my way home in about 6 hours.

It varies for everyone; hence "calibration". This gives people the battery life they should be getting.
This usually only makes a (or I should say the most) difference with freshly factory reset phones, or right after flashing a custom rom.

wifi 9%
SYStem 8%
standby is 7%
com.motorola.service.main 4%

android OS 3%
Email 2%
Only down 10% battery. normally im down roughly 10%/hr when ive so much as used voice/email.
I agree with the OP... This seems like a much safer way to keep the battery accurate, etc. I was told a while ago that the Battery calibration app doesn't work right on the atrix, so I was told to manually wipe the stats in CWM, then let the phone die and then recharge to 100%...BAD idea. Battery seemed completely fried after this, only about 1/4 as long as it did before.
I think the app does work, and it's much safer. I don't really recommend ever letting the phone die though, after what happened to me. Could have been a freak accident, but not taking that risk again!
28h 30m, 46% battery left.
2h display
30m talking
30m plants vs zombies
All I've ever done is charge phone to 100% first charge, let it completely die, and then only charge to 100% at night, with occasional car charger use.
I wouldn't suggest completely decharging battery regularly, it deteriorates lithium ion batteries faster

I never let mine die completely either. Ill usually put it up to charge at night once it hits about 20% or so. Calibrating once in the morning seems to get me through the day pretty well.

80% battery remaining. 5hr 2m 5s since unplugging.
32% - Display 53m 0s (rare for an even number)
14% voice calls 7m 2s
13% idle - 4h 9m 7s
8% wifi - 4h 52m 5s
7% android system.
6% cell standby
5% swype
3% android os
3% maps
2% com.motorola.service.main
2% LauncherPro
This is definitely better than usual. 2 hours in, i was at 80%. now after 5 hours, im at 80%...
On a side note, The phone hasnt gotten hot in my pocket like it usually does today as well.

How long have you had your phone? Mine really didn't start performing well until I had had it for 3 weeks or so. I did a flash to the 1.83 SBF (at 100% battery - equal to a recalibration) and haven't shut it off in like 10 days. No recalibration and I can get at least 18 hours of use (with like 4-5 hours of screen time).
tl;dr - I don't think you need to recalibrate all the time
How do you figure the 100%, since the battery goes from 90 to 100.
Do you just let the battery calibration app beep when it measures 100%?
Thanks.
Which battery calibration app did you download?

I used this app:

As for my phone, I've had it since launch day on at&t.
Another thing to mention: add a screen-off profile using setcpu as well, definitely helps.

I checked my battery monitor widget today am noticed something very strange. It showed me 40% charged when I was sure it was only 35% charged before I went bed! WTF did it charge itself? As you can see from the screenshots the phone was not on charge and was awake for most of the night which has never happened before. I have not installed any new apps in the last few days I have never seen this before on any of my android phones over the years. After 1 month of using the note this is the first glitch i've noticed (if it is a glitch). I am on stock LA4.
Anyone have any ideas as to why this happened?
I'm not complaining ( wish it happened every night!) just curious.
I have noticed the same strange thing with ICS.
did you try pinching your arm?

It is probably/maybe your battery stats that was not exactly "right" and might "recalibrate" your battery stats to the true value.
The simplest answer is always the true one: It is having trouble reading your battery right. Happens with mine too sometimes.
LOL I had the same thing happened to me.
First day with my note. And so far I am loving it.(despite colour rendering issues , and a very lagging stock keyboard)

This has happened to me several times already since the Galaxy S days.. sometimes after a reboot the battery looses 50% and slowly charges back up its quite funny and strange, never happened to my note though.
What do you think happens if some of the services is not needed anymore and stopes relaying, the battery % estimation will go up.

Wtf are you talking about? That's not any kind of estimate of lifetime, that's a report on amount of energy left. And in this case, specifically, a bug in it's reading.

You need to review your facts make a bit more research, the report is based on the fact that how many apps and services are you using, say if the wifi is on, it will show you certain %, however if you turn it off will report you that it has increased, depending on the running apps and services how much battery is left, my laptop does it all the time, unless you are living in pre Smart Battery Meter era.
I have to agree that if the % relies on the voltage (as I am sure it must do to some extent, but I am only guessing), stopping heavy services will allow the voltage to increase and the app may see that as a gain.
Alternatively we have discovered Samsung's secret OTA charging method! This explains why some phones have terrible battery life, they are being sucked dry by nearby 'Vampire Notes'!
Now, if we could just work out how we could charge all Notes by sucking iPhones dry ....

Battery is trolling
The Galaxy Note battery is a three terminals battery. So I think that the % state of charge of this battery is directly calculated from its output voltage.
The voltage decrease as the charge decrease, so it is possible to evaluate the residual charge in the battery. This is not a very precise method but it is quite simple to implement.
After a high current drain there is what is called a ''voltage recovery'', the battery voltage increase slowly a little bit as the current is stopped. So you may think that the battery get back energy, but unfortunately it is only an artifact.
Yesterday I showed you all how my battery indicated that it had charged itself.
So guess what folks today when I checked the complete opposite happened!!
Again as you can see it went from 48% just before I went to sleep only to wake up to a dead phone (switched off). Upon rebooting it showed only 9% !!
Now I can cope with it going up but going down is not good.
Hope its not a hardware problem and just a faulty battery.
lets see what happens tomorrow maybe it will explode!
I'm an EE (election engineering) student. Michel_7 is right. Lithium ion batteries experience a voltage sag during high current draws. Afterwards there is some rebound, both as the battery cools if over temp, and with a period of lower activity. This is in part due to the fact that batteries have internal resistance, and as they supply power, they also dissipate some internally. This is of squared proportion to the current drawn. IE current^2 * resistance. Battery resistance constant, so the more power the phone uses, the more the battery does. This is what heats up the battery.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
My battery was at 9%. I plugged it in, rebooted to recovery and it read 70%. I thought it was just a misread but when I rebooted it was still at 70%. Has anyone seen this before?

I've noticed that while in use the batt percent will drop a lot but then rise a few percent when you turn screen off.
sent from the depths of helly bean
Mine has done the opposite where it read 70 and dropped to 3% when I got into recovery. What's also odd about mine is that every time it says Charged, when I unplug it, it's never higher than 96%. But if I talk on the phone while it's plugged in, it will go as high as 99%.
That used to happen to me. I just plugged my phone in when it was dead, then I rebooted and I had 70%. Its actually very convenient. When I have to go somewhere, I just plug it in for a minute and my battery is all good to go.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Lol it doesn't work that way, the phone might not read the battery percentage correctly, doesn't mean it can fully charge the battery in a few minutes. After you flash a rom or factory reset, it might take a bit of using the phone to get a precise battery reading.
Although some rom have the feature to enable fast charge, but it only improve charging by a bit.
Also its okay to not charge lithium ion batteries to 100% all the time, its actually better for the life of the battery to only charge up to high 90s, some roms have the feature to limit the charging percentage.
It's because now-a-days people don't know too much about the incorrect battery stats and how to fix them.
I've had the same problems, but it's quite weird, it goes up sometimes and down most of the time.
Charge to 100% - or as high as your phone gets - then wipe battery stats. Reboot a few times and charge again to 100% and then do it again.
There's a much better method laying around here, but i'm just too lazy to search right now.
Mine, does that also. I pull the battery out and it recorrects it

A quick update on a weird bug I encountered in the N4 yesterday. I was outside and got home with my battery at around 50%. I plugged the phone in and look away for a couple of minutes and when I looked back at the phone and the battery was at 100%(!).
I knew this couldn't be right so I checked the battery graph and it showed a steep jump from 50 to 100 in a matter of minutes. I did a phone restart and the battery was back to the correct level and went back to charging normally. Unfortunately I forgot to screenshot the battery graph and after the reset the graph was reset as well.
Could this bug be one of the reasons why certain users are reporting very bad battery lives on the N4? I can imagine that if I had not been paying attention with the charging and just took the phone out to use later, the battery would have seemed to drop very quickly. How commonly could it happen even; has anyone else seen it?
This happened to me last night. I plugged it in to charge and it said the battery was at 100
