so far bangsters have given me the longest battery life.. still testing NexusHD2 (seems to be the most complete Android port).. so far i'm seeing 3mA current draw on stanby... so far so good..

hyperdroid is the best out ... u can just overwrite the fonts directory on ur sdcard/hyperdroid1.7/system
with fonts from other builds (hyperdroid 1.5 and earlier has stock fonts) ... also u can changethe dpi to 220 or 240 ... i dont know why pongster likes it at 180 ... even 200 is barely useable with the fonts he supplies

thanks for your information. Ill test these two and see what I think thanks

Just one more question, what radio are you using ?
becuase i have a feeling that android is a bit more hungry when using specific radios.

right im now using the NexusHD2 with
ROM][WWE][11.10.2010]ChuckyDroidROM 23139 ~ 3.14
Radio version 2.12
Last night it was on 63% woke in the morning it was on 13%.
Ive disabled everything that syncs and its using 1% an hour which is superb.
Im sacrificing sync but its worth it for good battery life.

I am using FroyoStone 3.1 with the latest stock rom 3.14 (radio 2.15.50). battery i would say is as good as i had with the stock rom 1.66 (haven't had time to check the newest rom yet because of using android). Average drain is 7-10mA. With a moderate use (no automatic syncs but data is always on) can last more than a day. Overnight drain is around 10%, last night left at 97% in the morning it was 88%.

Battery Life - WinMo 6.5 or 6.5.x

So I am thinking of making the switch from 21xxx to 23xxx and I read somewhere that I will see a increase in battery life by doing so while staying with the same cooks roms.
Does anyone have an opinion on this? Will the newer windows builds really help my batter life assuming the same usage throughout the day???
Thank you,
Jeff
I'm using WinMo 6.5 and as for right now my phone has been running for 3 days already with 40% battery life.

Jeff, I'm was the energy 23138 sept 23 standard rom and 2.14.50.x radio. i was getting anywhere between 24 and 36 hours on a standard size battery. I am a heavy user and when i'm at home my wifi is always on, i surf the internet a lot and if i'm out i've normally got the music player going. I also have the facebook tab updating every hour as well as my location. I also use the gps quite a bit.
So i would say the battery life is good but i can't compare it to 21916 as i have never used that series of builds and it's been a very long time since i used a stock rom, so again i can't compare.
My advise would be to try it out for a few days and see if you notice the difference but i have to say i am very pleased. I've just finished flashing and configuring 21619 sept 24 so it will be a couple of days before i can get a comparison between 23138 and 21619 (as you will have seen from the enrgy rom thread these are both 6.5.x builds) but i'm not expecting much difference considering that they use the same drivers from the 3.14 tmous base and the radio hasn't changed between the two.
A plus point though, seeing as you use the energy roms, is that xda_uc will still be able to import all your settings if you go for the same "flavour" rom i.e standard for standard or cht for cht (unless you pick the new cht2 builds then your cht settings are not compatible)

Can someone tell me how this is possible? I've had my HD2 for about 4 months now and if I don't charge it daily it's dead the next day. I'm using the new 2.14 radio and Miri HD2 WM6.5 (21916) ROM V 19.1. I have Exchange and weather on auto update and everything else is on manual update. Any pointers is a big plus. Thanks.
BTW I've tried the 23138 but I can't stand the over-sized buttons on the bottom. It's just absolutely hideous to me so I have no idea if it gets better battery life.

Extended size battery (the one that needs the different battery cover), auto disconnecting data connections, and not really using it very much at all
thanks guys for your reply, man it sure sounds like I am sucking as far as battery goes, my usage is a fraction of yours and I can barely get 20 hours. I think part of my problem is that at work, I have poor service, going in and out of coverage as I walk around the building. I have to turn off 3g and I barely have edge. I am currently trying duttys cream de la cream now 6.5.x to see if is any different. man, if I had your battery life, I would never flash again! I have latest radio, tried many, and the 3.14 rom.
I will let you know how this one goes.

I really don't believe some of you about the absolutely ridiculous battery life. Especially if you are heavy user, no way! I've seen lots of HD2's (different ROM's/Radios/battery charging methods) and I want to tell people on this board that they don't need to be worried if their battery is dead after a long working day with heavy use. So, don't believe too much fairy tales and enjoy your wonderful phone.

It does seem a little crazy huh? I hear that some Iphone users can go three days with pretty heavy use and a few that I have talked to say that thier iphone can barely last 10 hours. There seems to be a ****load of variability in current consumption amongst all variants of smart phones.
I would just be pleased to get from 5am to 11am with moderate use, without having to buy that brick battery with the built in kickstand.
I will give this current rom a week to see how the battery settles down, ignore the sig, it is the Dutty CDLC V17 with the 2.14 radio.

Battery - Android using 50%+

I'm using Mdeejay rEVOlution 2.3 ROM. 'Android System' is using 58% of my battery, Chucky lite ROM with most of the WM settings off, and Hastarin Kernel (can't remember which number). Is this right?
No, usually Display takes most of the battery. Might be a bad build or something, you might want to format your SD card and load a new version of android on it.

Cheers for the reply! I guess I'll crack on with it. Good job it's a Sunday, hey?
i have installed android for the first time yesterday. this is all new to me (flashing roms and stuff) but it all went ok. i have though noticed that battery life is poor. Firstly, i have searched the forum and noted that many users are stating what the battery usage is in mA. how exactly is this measured? is there an app? secondly, it appears the battery can be effected by what rom, radio etc is installed. if i was to try a different rom or radio, would i have to install android again along with all my apps?
thanks
i kind of have this problem too but it hink thats just how these early builds are.
Use currentwidget to measure mA.
My mA idle get down t 5mA, but I am still having some issues getting battery life that i think is acceptable

thanks for that. just tried the widget. lowest i get is 7mA
5 to 9 mA is great battery consumption at idle, I'm having an issue staying there, I bottom out one day at 3mA but then today my phone doesn't drop below 50mA at idle. Windows Rom and radios are important for it to run smoothly but I don't think a lite rom makes a difference over a full rom, when haret launches , is gonna keep anything from running on windows(so I hear) I've tried many many roms, and the vbn rom, which is a super lite rom, didn't perform better than what I'm using right now which is energy cht. Radio will keep you from having issues with the phone waking up,(bsod) I've tried a bunch of radios and settled with the 2.15, a lot of people swear by it!

Batter Life!!!!!!!!!!

Okay I am now running an Energy Rom, still every build that I have tried, the battery drains so fast!! It is almost unbelievable. I can not get a days worth out of this thing, I have turned off background data, and everything, and it still the battery drains like crazy! What is the point in having Android on this nice phone, when the batter drains too fast, you can barely use the phone? I have tried builds that include Kernel 8.5.1, still battery drains.
Download current widget to see your mA, I thinks that is battery voltage...what radio are you using and WM rom?
With chucky lite, radio 2.12 and froyohd2, if I don't play angry birds my battery still last about all day... And around 7mA in stand by.
I like the Energy Rom, can you give me a link to the FroyoHD2? Also I heard there was a Froyo with no sense ui, but I can not find it. My Radio is working just fine, I have 2.12.50
The answer to this question is all over these forums. 90% chances are the issues are between the 4.2" Screen and You.
With the right settings/configurations, you can get pretty damn good batt life.

Try the MIUI build (any). If you like the nexus one builds you will definitely love the MIUI build. If you don't like the iphone looking style just install ADW or launcher pro from the market. You will also need to use an android friendly wm rom. Use vbn with excellers multiple build loader both are found in the android development section. When you use the build loader app chose auto boot 3 seconds, ( you will know what I'm talking about when you are in the app). Hope this helps
i tryed just about every rom, got atleast 24hrs with all of them. most were 48+ with conditioning... for me bat life was more an isue of shutdown voltage in the kernel than any thing else..

Strange some people say to switch to that from Desire or Desire HD builds because it has better battery life ?
I am running
MDJ Revolution 1.7 with MDJ 7.6HD Kernel
Radio 2.15.50.14
I find that the above radio is better on battery than my previous 2.12.50.xx
Also the Kernel is better too.
But it depends on how much you play with your phone I get 3 - 7ma drain on my current setup but of course when you start calling or playing games it will easily go up to 200ma.
I find the above rom very stable I can't find anything that doesn't work and its fast enough for me I don't notice any lag or freezing.
I was thinking of switching to your ROM to try but if the battery life is that bad then I may stick with this.
guyz lil but of an update here still on the same rom and i've manged to last 14 hours and i still have 72 % in the battery, with very little usage a couple of texts couple minutes of browsing and some music
im using setcpu greenpower and advanced task killer
ssetcpu is at the minimum
advanced task killer set to auto kill - crazy (means it kills apps as soon as screen goes off)
greenpower set to manage wifi and mobile data, turns off wifi and data when there is low traffic and turns it off as soo ans the screen goes off
its working for me so far so just wanted to post it up incase anybody else wanted to know

SE Stock Rom Advantage!

Hello All,
I noticed there are a lot of posts regarding Battery Usage & Optimization...
I tried many many combinations of custom roms, basebands and kernels and I always face the same battery problem especially when 3G/MobileData is switched on.
I admit that Sony Ericsson gave us a ****ty stock rom with poor kernel however It's still the best rom in managing battery usage.
I made a small comparison on Stock rom VS Custom roms with 3G/MobileData left switched-on and I found the following:
Custom rom(s): battery drain down very fast it goes for 100% to 1% in less than 8 hours (normal apps installed)
Stock rom: battery lasts for 2-3 days with normal daily phone usage (same apps installed as i did in custom rom)
Please share your opinions.
Thanks,
Ayman
I don't agree at all...
Custom roms can have just as good, if not better, battery life.
I personally think this was a good idea. Nice post and info. Just curious, how long did you do this study with the data you got?

hey guys, i too have this issue, i dnt know if its device specific. ive had the phone since march(2010) last year and have been modifying it with the great mods that the devs hav given us. everytime i install a custom rom i just get unusual battery drain, like yesterday, i followed instructions to the letter and installed tripnravers miuifroyo 1.0.8 and i lost 10% battery in like 20 minutes n ive hardly used it :-(. so nowadays i stick wiv a modified stock 2.1(ewjet to b exact). im gna buy a new battery and see if i get the same results. i really wna use a custom(2.2+)rom but the battery problems are really putting me off, theres so many people out der that arent really having ny battery drain whcih jus dus my head

Thanks Voelker BTW this is my first Thread in XDA, I used to use SE 2.1 stock rom till the first stable Froyo custom rom came out. I switched to Froyo then I started to notice this around 4 months ago and I tried many combination and a lot of optimizations to find out the best one although Stock rom was always better.
@fiscidtox:
I love Foryo and GB much much more than Eclair I currently on CM6 v6 Wolfbreak
Could you please tell me how the battery lasts on your custom rom while MobileData is left switched-on?
Thanks,
Ayman
I get a full day..
If you mean stock with no tweaks then maybe it would last longer, but a lot of that would be not having jit enabled...

You must be doing something wrong!
10% in 20 mins isn't normal.
I'm sure if you left it settle this would rectify itself though.
I think the biggest advantage of the stock kernel so far is stability, but the ongoing development for the custom kernel is sucessful to implement some problems such as battery drain caused by unability to go into deep sleep etc..
I never understood needing more than 24 hours on a charge. Charge it while you're sleeping you wont be using it then anyway.
Even if you like the 2.1 Stock ROM for any reason (Stability,Battery, etc) and don't like all these awesome 2.2 and 2.3, you should at least use Eric's JET ROM which is based on the original ROM has no stability issues and has faaaaar better battery life.
But seriously, I`m using Custom ROMs since the first 2.2 ROM by Z and never even cared to get back to the stock ROM.
When I use Wifi custom roms have almost the same battery life as the stock rom. But since I can't connect to wifi at work on any custom rom, im forced to use 3g.. and I need to charge my phone twice a day with almost no usage.

can't wait till gingerbread comes out. if the performance is like the arc then I will just stick with the stock rom.

Let it settle for at least two days to see improvement.
Your battery needs to adjust, much like letting your phone build a cache, in order to really see how the rom will effect anything.
Im using the stock rom and my battery lasts a maximum of 2 days with this tweaks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934486
I dont use 3g at all and i use wifi sometimes (session lasts only 10 mins or so)
Brightness is set to "middle" also
Sorry dont agree..
I use wolfbreaks latest rom with the undervolt module.
Juice defender only enables my wifi when i am at home...all other times i have data on with facebook sync.
I now get the same battery life as i did on stock 2.1
Currently I have been unplugged for 1day and 12 hours and I am still at 38%.
