[Q] New ROM Update from T-Mobile worth doing? - HD2 General

Today T-Mobile released another update for the HD2. Is it really worth the time it takes to back up and reinstall everything I currently have on my phone? If lagging and freezing issues come from the low class SD card, will this ROM do anything to aid performance even with the crappy card? What about the TXT horrible lag...I wonder if that is fixed...if not, this update really doesn't fix my problems...any thoughts?

I think you should read some of the threads already posted about the new 3.14 ROM that was just released yesterday.
3.14 T-Mobile Stock ROM PRO's and Cons
[Q] 3.14 ROM and SMS lag..dear god say its fixed.

I have heard nothing but good reviews about it. I would strongly suggest updating your HD2 to this new 3.14 ROM

do it. mine wasn't responding to screen taps in certain spots, believe it or not, it's fixed now .

Does anyone know how to do the update from a Mac?

You can't. The RUU will only run under Windows. You can however extract the actual ROM file itself from the RUU using StuffIt and then follow the instructions on how to rename it and put it on an SD card and flash it that way. Check out the stickies for more info.

From Custom ROM to Official 2.13?

Ok, I did use the search feature and I did find information but I just want to verify that it is correct. From what I seen to update from a Custom ROM with HSPL to the Official 2.13 Update you have to do the following:
1. Flash the 2.13 Update
2. Run HSPL again but this time select (in my case) 2.08.00 instead of 2.08.00 HSPL which should flash the stock SPL onto the phone.
Is this correct? Just want to verify as I dont want to brick my HD2.
Thanks,
Mike
correct
.......
Thanks for verifying that.
if thatsvthe update from tmobile i advise against it. it messed with my sensitivity and took me a few days of work to go back to the 2.10 ROM version
Let me ask you this though, did you do a hard reset before flashing the update, as well as after flashing the update? If you did this it shouldn't have any bad effects on it. Ive heard no others say they have had this issue. Ill let you know if I have this kind of issue though. What exactly was it doing?

That is most definitely a wise practice when flashing ROM's...however, there are indeed quite a few users reporting sensitivity issues after flashing to the new 2.13...there's changes in the new ROM intended to improve sensitivity, but the effects aren't always desirable it seems.
Some serious efforts are underway here to get around that, you can keep up with them at the following thread (which is also a sticky at the top of this forum section):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683192
Or......
1. Use an extrator program on the .exe file and then you will find that the 2.13 update has 11 files. (rename the .exe to .rar)
2. Run a Task29
3. After the 11 files are extracted you can just use the romupdate utility, and presto stock 2.13 without messing with HSPL
These steps will not overwrite the HSPL to 2.10 and if you decide to go to another custom ROM then you are good to go.
It also works the same with the 2.10 stock ROM
I had a custom went to the new tmous official and went back to a custom without having to redo Hspl.
well I just heard that the HSPL gives problems with 2.13 and you need to use the factory SPL
uhmm.... i'm using smaberg's touch extreme rom.... which is better? the tmo 2.13 update or the custom rom?
May I ask why would you consider returning to 2.13 after running a perfectly fine Custom ROM? Well, besides selling or trying to return the phone to T-Mobile... 2.13 gave me nothing but problems and freezing left and right. The music app in 2.13 took 1 minute and 25 seconds to load the songs !!!!
2.13 is the latest right? even the new custom roms are 2.13 based right? or that's old?

Something is definitely wrong with your HD2. I have the latest rom and it's just as stable as the previous versions. Using Garmin Mobile XT GPS and SportyPal along with G-Alarm very frequently with no hiccups.
You sir suck at HD2.
Appreciate your response, even though it had nothing to do with you. On a second note, I'd rather suck at HD2 than suck something else... something you are very familiar with.

Release of Official T-Mobile HD2 MR Software (Version 3.14.531.1 )

Hi guys
Received a sms message from T-mobile announcing the official release of ROM update. Check out the Tmobile HD2 site.
Edit:
Installed the update; found nothing new or exciting and now reverting back to Kumar's TMHD2 Touch Premium 2.9 WWE
For those who have flashed 2.08.HSPL to use unofficial ROMs, if you install the official release by USB your 2.08 HSPL will still be intact after the upgrade and you can go back to other ROMs with out any problem. That's what I did by reverting back to Kumar's ROM.

I am curious too about what it is for, it would be cool if it was Windows 7.
I am running Energy Rom, and Radio 2.15.50.14, so I am assuming updating would be a bad idea.
I just got the sms message too - I'm downloading it right now from the t-mobile website.
Figures - I just put a different ROM on my phone - yesterday! hahaha
i wonder why i didnt get a text, maybe because i was in android?
anyways how is it?

ya but there is versions for each of and i am confuse i dont know which one is better so if any one has any experience just feed me
Still no multitouch keyboard. Is this not possible with WM6.5? I just can't understand why, almost a year after initial release, HTC has not released a multitouch keyboard for WM6.5 on the HD2. Iphone and Android have had it forever, and it makes SUCH A BIG difference!

As so many forum members have said, perhaps for a million times, ROM preference is really an art of matching ones individual needs; I have been testing several ROMs, Energy, Kumar's, Omega etc. and currently find Kumar's ROM meeting my needs. To me Kumar's ROMs seem stable and do not have many programs that the chefs generally tend to add to their custom ROMs. I like my system to be as minimum and as stable as possible so that I can add and customize it as I want.
So the best thing is to try couple of Custom ROMs and see if you feel comfortable with the version of ROM you have installed.
Also, the latest version of ROM (both Official, Custom) are generally less buggy.
For those of us who do not want to go for the custom ROMs, I guess today's official release from T-mobile should be the one we should be upgrading to. T-mobile must have ironed out previous noted bugs in this new upgarde. For the brief moments that I played with the official new release; everything was smooth and working. But as I said earlier, I have now reverted back to Kumar's ROM.
It appears that today's 'Official" release is the same as the leaked release from a couple of weeks ago.
The size of the RUU_signed.nbh is exactly the same size. The date is different but I doubt that means anything significant.
I never got any text from tmo. :-(
after attempting the update, I get 7 vibrations in a row at the tmo boot screen and then it freezes. Anyone else have this issue?
Just installed, took like 3 mins and it runs ok, they added new icons: amazon Mp3, Myaccount, Shazam and T-Mobile Help... my account and t-help icons are useless they dont do anything, still testing, i saw some improvements like faster reading from memory, now when i insert the sd card with a bunch of images, videos and music it takes less time reading them, the only issue that i got was that im unable to run android cuz it gets a weird screen and it does nothing, but if i get some problem i'll post it ok? thx!
what does the update even do?

I just updated to 2.13 the other day, and I put a custom ROM on my phone that I really really like alot since my phone seems to respond better to this one with no small lag. I have a question though, if I update to 3.14 will I loose the ability to put the custom ROM back on the phone or is it safe to update and put the custom ROM back in?
hi,
I have stock ROM 2.13.531.1
i recently installed HSPL3 and radio 2.15.50.14
now my quuestion is will i be able to install the new ROM without any problem? i dont want to brick my phone. Also will i be able to install the same radio 2.15.50.14 after installing the new stock ROM.
Hopefully htc have fixed the sms bug coz everytime i get a new sms my whole phone freezes for like 5 sec. and its really killing me.
thanks guys

[Q] Back 2 Da Basic

OK, thanks to everyone here I finally flashed my HD2 and I liked it a lot. I tried the Energy Rom and Core Cell Rom and they both worked great and have there advantages. But I have a new question now. I want to change my phone back to stock, which stock rom should I download? And is the installlation process the same as flashing the phone with a custom rom?
hmmm...
im assumin you have a tmous HD2. if so you can find the original tmobile rom on their website. just search for hd2 software update on the search portion. same as here, you can find it. just gotta look and not ask a question when you can find it yourself. also i think this question doesnt belong under this thread mayb under HD2 general..
http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm54430.xml thats helpful... use it to flash back..
ok, thanks for the help. but i have a question and something else as well. I clicked on the link and read over everything it says:
NOTE: The software update is only designed to update the ROM version from 2.10.531.1 and 2.13.531.1 to 3.14.531.1. If at any point the software was changed from 2.10.531.1 or 2.13.531.1 by flashing to unsupported software, sometimes called rooting or hacking, then we strongly recommend you do not perform this update, as it was not designed to update unsupported software.
It seems like their saying don't use this update if I flashed another rom besides the stock rom which it came with. So exactly what do I do from here? Not trying to sound slow or anything, but I want to becareful with these things. And besides I don't have a spare phone to use and would hate to brick this one up. Any help is appreciated.
I got my TMOUS HD2 yesterday and to go around customs, I asked if the seller could flash there nonbootable ROM, which I made (HTC Oboe XIP and no IMGFS to be sure it wouldn't boot ). When it arrived, I just flashed the 3.14 ROM without single errors and keeping HSPL2.
Do it, there won't be problems .
this thread came in time. today i got a message from tmobile indicating that there is a new update available. i wanna give it a shot and if i don't like it then I'm going to upgrade to the cell core v3 since i've been using v2 for a while

[Q] HTC HD2 Freeze - Pls take a look

Hi there,
Im very new here. I have a T-Mobile HTC HD2. Both HTC and WinMO are something new for me, as previously im iPhone user. Any guide/help is very appreciate. The phone keep hanging during boot. Usually its hang during the pink box and when htc sense finish load. How do I fix this?
I would like to install android on this phone. Is it possible for me to install after I update to latest OS(WinMo 6.xxx).
Update:
My HTC HD2 keep freeze during boot. Now I want back to normal, whatever ROM is it.
Welcome to XDA and whole real world as I am sure iPanzy kept you down but thats another matter for another day. Now I am not sure what pink box you are talking about you mean the splash boot? What are you using WM6.5? In that case look below.
Now you have few choice as HD2 is true multi platform device, as we are belessed with superior dev team and support many OS. You can use dual boot WM(NAND) and AOSP(mSD) or you can use NANDROID. If you pick dual boot I say use WM6.5.X as base 29XXX is by far the most superior stable then if you want to use AOSP then download and install Android on SDCard or skip all of that and use NANDROID as native.
Pink box I mean is probably shows "Stick Together" words
Now even worse, after few second the phone boot it freeze. I`ve tried factory reset, the same thing keep happening. What should I do now? Should I flash to new offical ROM/OS?
FYI in using T-Mobile HTC HD2 with 1024MB ROM.
For now let forget installing android on but focus on the freeze.
Thanks for the help STHNS
I know you are using Leo1024 as its TMobile also I had feeling it would be that ugly logo thats why I said splash boot. Which was the first thing I got rid of when I got HD2 and put custom splashscreen.
Now it would be unwise to jump in to Android as you might want to check if your HD2 is functioning properly so later if something does go wrong you can send it back for warranty without issue. So lets be clear what are you saying? You can't load in to your WM6.5? SenseUI never loads? or your stuck at bootscreen? Is it used/new? Where did you get this device?
My phone stuck on 3 difference places. I keep reset so the phone can be use normally. Indeed very few time its successfully boot.
1. Stuck on Pink box logo"Stick Together "
2. Stuck on loading Sense UI
3. Stuck after finish loading Sense UI.
Most of it stuck on 2 or 3.
Well no problem first where did you get this device? I have a feeling its used and you got it though some type of shady deal where original owner gave you talk about blah blah lol thats why he sold it, I could be wrong
But serious matter here shut the HD2 down completely and power it back on. Then report what you see the in steps. Hopefully you got it new if something is wrong due to faulty hardware you can send it for repair or warranty. But I have a feeling you don't thats why you came here :O again I could be wrong I am just always suspicious
Its used and i bought it on eBay.
Btw how could flash to offical ROM?
What rom is on it? And why would you want official rom? If you want WM based rom go use EnergyROM WM6.5.X 29XXX base as its far more stable.
EnergyROM WM6.5
Does the installation is same as official ROM?
To test the phone, I advice to go to the HTC Website and download a ROM (you have to use your phone's serial number to guarantee to get one suitable for your phone). If I remember correctly there are 3 variations: 2.08, 2.10 and 3.14. - go for the 2.10 (just to keep away from the 3.14 version as you want to move onto Android). Flash the ROM.
After a hard reset there should be no problems, if there is then your phone has hardware issues.
Thanks for the info fred.
Where I can download the 2.14 version?
What is shipped ROM?
What the diffence between shipped ROM vs official ROM.
Sorry for a lot questions. HTC and WinMo is something new to me. Im iPhone user.
2.14? You mean 3.14?
1) Shipped rom is the default manufacture rom that comes standard on it.
2) No diff between shipped and official rom they are same thing we call them stock rom. Which is supported and maintained by the folks who made the phone.
If you want to upgrade stock rom not sure why you want to do that you can go to Tmobile website and check under wmupgrade or go to HTC website and look under support. I say you forget about WM 6.5 stock rom and go use WM6.5.X EnergyROM base 29XXX its simply superior in every aspect.
The reason I suggest you flash, for example, the 2.10 ROM is that it will flash the SPL, the main ROM and the RADIO. This will get the phone running fully on an official ROM.
The problem you have can either be modifications to the operating system software or additional software or a hardware problem. By flashing a stock (official) ROM you will have cleared the existing operating system and additional software. Now if the problem is still there then it is very likely that it is due to a hardware problem.
If after flashing the problem is gone, then by all means flash the excellant Energy ROM or flash your desired Android ROM.
If you only flash a custom ROM which does not include the RADIO (which controls all communication interaction and not just the FM Radio) then you are reducing the chances of finding out the problem.
Silly question, have you tried booting the phone up without the SD Card?
After all the problem, freeze, hang up and etc I no longer put any sd card on my htc hd2. I beleive the problem might be with the hardware. But why not we try our best before given up on it.
I had several simple questions.
1. Can radio be downgrade?
2. What radio for? Its same like baseband on iPhone
3. Where I can download 2.10 HTC HD2 US T-Mobile? Search here found nothing

1) Yes you can downgrade Leo_Radio's long as you use the correct one as you know there is .50 for HD2-US(Leo1024) and .51 HD2-EU(Leo512).
2) Radio is software that controls your phones wireless interfaces such as data, voice, bluetooth, gps, wifi and other power and memory related firmwares. Well never used iOS so can't say what they call it but far as AOSP goes yes we call it baseband.
3) Search for TMoUS 2.10 stock rom and you will find it or do search in this forum as I am sure someone has it archived.
3)
Answer to your question No. 1 - Yes, Radio can be downgraded and upgraded if you install HSPL prior to downgrade/upgrade. FOr the rest you have to search the forum for the answer.

[Q] MY HTC HD2 keeps on restarting!!

hi,
i am in india and i purchased an HTC HD2 from a local shop who sold me outside india HTC HD2 phone.
now from the day i got it the phone keeps on restarting all the time.
mostly it restarts when internet connection is attmepted to be made.
i tried to update it with HTC site but still the problem remains the same.
here is the details after updation.
OS version:..5.2.21913
manila: 2.5.20181527.0
ROM version: 3.14.720.3(04666)WWE
ROM date: 10\08\10
Radio: 2.15.50.14
protocol:15.42.50.11U
now the major concern is i have no idea of flashing the phone and m little scared too to do it without any expert around
and which one should i try to check if the system has hardware problem or software?
WINDOWS 7 or ANDROID.
tell me where to download the best available ROM for that too,
This is in the wrong place. If you're having issues with the HD2 and a WM6.5 ROM, you should go http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=980 there.
Second: flashing is super easy. Just read one of the tutorials.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924051
Start there. You'll find just about everything you'll need. Incidentally, I recommend Windows Phone 7 over Android. But since you're going to be putting MAGLDR on your phone, you might as well try them both. It's not going to hurt!
thanks for a generous reply i really appreciated it.
my main concern is will upgrading to windows 7 will solve my problem regarding the restarting.
a shop keeper said that it is due to wrong country update coz the phone is from outside india and someone tried to update it to indian update.
so will flashing solve the problem or not?

First, don't think flashing is just for anyone. You can read the tutorials, but be very careful..one wrong move and you can brick your phone. Be very careful if you've never flashed before.
Secondly, you said you got your HD2 outside of India, but is it the European version or the U.S. version that you bought? If you have the U.S. version, you should see 1GB ROM. The European version has 512MB ROM.
Third, depending on which version you have you need to find the appropriate radio and protocol for your HD2 version and the country you are in.
Fourth, check out YukiXDA's WP7 ROM. He's the one who took DFT's base WP7 to NODO and beyond.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080950
Finally, as for the restarting issue, you may encounter the same issue with WP7 because WP7 is very particular about the SD card being used. There have been many reports of non-compliant SD cards causing reboots. Another thing is to use a class 4 card as a bare minimum.
If you want to stay with WM6.5.5 check this ROM out. I used Energy WM ROMS for almost a year before switching to WP7. This is the link for Energy WM 6.5.5 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
For flashing tutorials...see the links in my signature for both WP7 and WM. And btw...updates for HD2 or any phone are usually carrier specific, so the OS and radio updates are distributed by the carriers and not by HTC. Also, flashing a different OS may or may not tell you if you have hardware problems. You'll notice hardware problems if you have difficulty using the phone's functions, but even then it could be a matter of the OS version you have installed.
I just love WP7 on my TMOUS HD2! It's given new life to an already great phone hardware.
I have a TMOUS HD2 and I get restarts all the time whether in Android, WP7, and WM6.5. I think it is related to the processor overheating. I will not have any problems all day and then in the afternoon when it is 50C plus, it will freeze or reboot and not start again till it is inside and cooled off. I've read this is common with HD2s.
well i installed android sd rom and after that it stopped booting so i sold the phone back to the shop keeper...!
i think the hardware had problems.
so now i am again in search of good phone.
any suggestions?
