Update question. - Vibrant General

Hey guys quick question, I woke up this morning to turn my alarm off and there was a message that my update finally arrived. I clicked ok and went back to sleep and thought it would update the phone. I am still rooted and oclf is still in effect my quadrant score was ~2200. System info said 2.1-update 1 and T959UVJFD. I don't think it went through.

You are correct, the update didnt apply itself to your phone.
But from the sounds of it you are rather lucky it didnt. Most rooted users who leave their phone rooted and try to apply the update end up in the Q&A section starting a threadlike "OTA brocked my phone"
I suggest you remove the lag fix, un root, and then search the forums for the post about using launcher pro to force your phone to search for the update.
Conversely, there is also a thread about how to manually install the new update.
Again, you will have to search it out as I cant currently post links.
Hope this helps

I had the same thing happen. I was rooted with OCLF installed, I disabled everything, unrooted, and uninstalled OCLF.
I went ahead and started the update and BAM! "froze" on vibrant screen- good bye! I had to ODIN, and reflash back to stock.
Up to you at this point...good luck.

Yea I didn't get the update, I went ahead and loaded Rom manager and backed up my rooted Rom and used the download section to load the j16 Rom from them and it looks like it loaded and everything I but still doesn't show up in my settings. Still stock

For anybody still waiting impatiently on the update. You may want to consider flashing Fusion 1.1 from the dev section. It is from the update build so you wouldnt need the update, and it is a lot faster and very stable. Read through the forum over there if you are interested. There is a lot of excellent feedbeck. It can be flashed over JFD through clockwork very easily.

DI18 now appearing OTA...I think.

I was just about to go to bed, and my newly-exchanged Epic 4G just popped up an update screen asking me to update to DI18.
Sorry if this is duplicate news, but I heard that DI18 was delayed indefinitely, so I guess they're rolling it out now.
Anyone else getting it OTA yet?

Yep, I just got notified on my phone its available.

Did anyone else get their phone un-rooted by the update? After the reboot, I tried launching SetCPU, and got an error message that root wasn't available & it was running in read-only mode.
I'm not sure whether I should be happy that I didn't have to unroot it first to get the update, or furious about an OTA update unrooting what was (I thought) a permanent rooting.

The word "permanent" is used very loosely, so I've learned.

I'm rooted and I still don't have the update. I got the D107 right off the bat. I was starting to think I needed to unroot to get it.

I've been getting prompted all morning to update, haven't done it yet though as I am rooted. But yes, it will come to you if you're rooted
Confirmed that the update is rolling out. It's best to go way of manuel update with a rooted phone though.

Going from rooted 2.2 to 2.3

What is the best way to go from a rooted 2.2 to a rooted 2.3?
Dan
I'd love to also, sadly it's not here and may never be.
Just install the OTA update it doesn't matter if you are rooted or not.

I updated to 2.3.340 while I was in the Verizon store when I got home I tried a slew of one click roots and the only one to get the job done was z4root it worked the first time
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
im on 2.2 rooted, but when i click to check for updates it says im up to date. what gives?
you have to be totally stock before it will let you update, if you're build.prop is far enough off it won't even show there is an update.
how do i go back to totally stock on 2.2? I renamed the bloatware .apk's back to the original files, what else is needed?

[Q] Noob ? about Rooted phone and OTA's

I one-clicked rooted my Epic and have DK28 installed. Since then I uninstalled some bloatware (amazon mp3, Nascar...) and installed Wifi Tether. So here comes the noobie question, what would happen if I just installed the OTA after the 26th (assuming this date is actually correct)?
PS. My GPS sucks right now, so, if the OTA is a horrible idea. Would using odin and going back to DI18 be possible with the root and uninstalled apps. From there I could flash back into DK28 and hope for some accurate GPSing.
Thanks for your Help
Cheers

once you root, you CANNOT RECIVEVE OTA's. you will have to flash another rom that has that OTA as a base for it.
So then do you suggest using something like odin to flash back to DI18?
I am sorry for my insane noobdome, very new to this whole business.
Thanks for your response

Yeah if you wanted to grab the new OTA on the 26ish (lol) you would have to odin back to DI18 then grab the update.

You can ota on rooted dl18

You get OTA's while rooted.. but if you've modified anything else you won't get the update.
So in order to get the OTA you will need to odin back to di18
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
You wont be able to get the OTA, but I would recommend just waiting a couple hours after the first OTAs get pushed and there will be few a pre-rooted, CW-redirected basically stock builds pushed out by the developers. Then you can just flash those, and they will be basically stock but have the root goodness and you wont have to go backwards just to go forwards. When the "official unofficial DK28" dropped, it was only a couple hours before devs had them out the door.
Dont worry about the ota ,wait until its rooted and cooked up for us it will be very quickly after it is released. Besides the ota inst coming Sunday anyway. we may see it sooner who knows.

That's not true. You can as long as you don't remove any sprint apps or flash a custom rom. Rooting does nothing but given what is essentially administrator (aka superuser) privelges. You will lose root once the ota hits, but I won't do anything to harm your device. However, it will with stck apps removed.
To answer the ops question though:
Download titanium backup from the market and backup your apps and data. Odin back to di18 and then use the same oneclickroot (assuming you got it from the sticky in development) to get root and reinstall titanium (it requires root). Run a Batch reinstall of all missing apps and data. Bingo. You'll have everything back to normal on di18.

Constant update notifications after greyblur flash

I flashed the 1.83 sbf using rsdlite and then flashed greyblur 2.1 over it, now in the "about phone" section it says I'm running 1.57 and always askes me to update.
Help?
This is happening to me too
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Is it the same update pop up that was on stock? I had an update in my notification bar but it did not say what it was or let me cancel it.
It's the OTA 1.83 update for users that are on 1.57, but i already upgraded
Yeah this happened to me too. I was rooted on 1.57 and updated. Ran afterupdate and got root back. Than I installed GreyBlur and im back to 1.57 now.. :-/
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Its because greyblur isn't compatible with 83 yet. A lot of psuedo roms make changes to /system, and that include their own build.prop file. That makes it look to the phone that its on 57 and not on 83. Wait until greyblur gets updated or dive into the zip yourself and make your own changes.

I'm really having a hard time here with this. This is my first custom rom I've installed. If I should wait for 83 compatibility. How do I uninstall the rom? If I accept the OTA update will it uninstall the rom for me?
Should I settle with GingerBlur instead? I really hate sounding like a newb here, but I've been digging deep into the forums and not really finding a clear answer about this issue.

Did you make a backup in Tenfar's recovery before you installed the rom? If so, its a simple process of restoreing the backup. If not, I personally would flash using the sbf available to whatever version. That basically will just reinstall your system, but keep your data (I.e. music not apps). I don't know what will happen if you update on greyblur... maybe try it? You could fall back on using the sbfs if needed. Gingerblur is great, although there are mixed repotlrts on bad batterylife with it. I'm personally on stock with LauncherPro until the next gladiatrix comes out.
Its good that you are asking questions before doing things.
Oh, P.S. you could use titanium backup to backup your apps.
Sent from my screaming Atrix *4G* using the XDA App
Actually I think this more to do with the fact that GreyBlurr came out when 1.57 was the current firmware version. It has that listed in the build.prop file. So the phone thinks it is 1.57 even though it is really 1.83. If you have root explorer you can safely edit that file to show the correct version (its the top line).
If you don't want to do that and you have Titanium Backup, you can freeze the Updater app.
Thanks for the advice Tyler.
I ended up flashing back to 1.26 and just rerooting again with GladRoot.
I now have GingerBlur installed and am very pleased with the results. =)
I've only had this phone for a weeks and it's my first droid, so I'm definitely learning a lot.

Manually Check For Updates on your XOOM

Just FYI anyone waiting for the xoom update it hasn't been successful for me yet but i will try every couple of hours. If you manually set the date to a farther ahead date say a couple days your xoom will check for an update. i noticed the time changing everytime i do it under system updates. So anyone wanting to force an update check change the date you can always just re check auto time.
Poop I Want it now.... is it including the bluetooth mouse support?
Just did this and update started downloading. Installing right now!

dev forums mention that you loose SU and have to redo the rights but then good to go.
just did this as well, tried it two times in two minutes.
First, nothing happened but the time changed for the last update.
Second time when I clicked the system updates under settings it popped up saying I had a new update.
Downloading now, well see how my rooted wifi only handles it!
Just finished... And nothing happened. I am still on 3.0.1, this happened earlier when I got an update notification and clicked install now or whatever.
Anyone know why this might be?
3.1 has a "check now" button.
The OTA update won't go through if you're rooted. Flash using one of the methods in the development section, or return to stock and wait for the OTA all over again (which is what I did.)
Did anyone update and not have it work? I installed the update and everything seemed to go well but after I checked about tablet section and it still says that it is 3.0.1. I am rooted running an older version if titamat. Haven't messed with it yet, at a first communion but was hoping someone had this problem
