[Q] Newbie here, battery drains in seconds - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey there, I recently got my HD2 and got quickly bored of WM so I installed new ROM and my phone seems to be draining the battery like nothing else. I was using XDA app for about 10 mins and battery level went from 100% to 85%. I also experience some slow downs, getting stuck with black screen and freezes at writing a txt msg also have G-sensor slow downs
what i have:
Stock WM with stock radio
using Mdeejay Froyo Sense v3.1
what are the safe ways to improve those problems I have as I am planning to use android as a main system. Please help. Thanks

If you had read the guide you would know that Android doesn't run very good with a stock radio. Flash HSPL 2.08 and the radio 2.14. If it doesn't get better then, try another WM ROM.
Cheers

Had the same problem, but not with every build. I installed 2.12 radio and have not had one problem. Give that a try.
Are you TMOUS?
I have been using 2.10.50.26. I will try that and see if it solves. Any other ideas out there?
Yes I am TMOUS
Stoarge card is what? Did you seriously try froyostone v1? I had problems with the stock 16 gig card and any other rom than the one i just menioned
Yes I'm pretty sure its your radio version. I am TMOUS and I switched to 2.12 and I've never had SOD again.
I can confirm that your radio is the problem. I am using chucky rom and radio 2.12 and have not had a sod ever since
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Same here. It's definitely your radio.
2.12.50 seems to be the most stable.
I use Radio 2.11.50 coz this does not drop the signal, more battery friendly and no SOD's. I experience a lot of signal drops with 2.12.50. Try this and don't forget to calibrate your G Sensors in both WinMo and Android. Good Luck.

I have a post explaining how radio affects Android. the OP should give a quick 30-40 mins search before opening a thread. its been explained everywhere.
Click here for more help on this issue
do not calibrate your gsensor don't waste your time. just simply change your radio and turn off auto rotation.
I've been having SODs in every build too (TMOUS HD2), hopefully 2.12.50 will fix it....I will respond my outcome
I have tried radios from the 2.08 to the 2.12 variation with ZERO luck. It always defaults to SOD. I'm running the Chucky ROM- I really hate the delay it has while browsing the internet otherwise I'd probably stick with it as it has never locked up on me. I really do like the FroyoStone android version, sans the 3 mp overexposed camera, charging problems, and no battery left percentage display- its a great build but this screen of death is very annoying. Its intermittent too; just happens to do it whenever it feels like.
I had the same issue, but mine seemed to SOD 5 mins after the screen dimmed. I changed to 2.12 and have been running well into 24-30 hrs with no SOD. Change your radio, that should do it.
Well after a whole day of running Android, I experienced 0 SODs after switching from 2.08 to 2.10...oh and I'm running stock TMOUS ROM fyi
I have a TMobile HD2 and i have had radio 2.10.50.x untill i read this thread and updated my radio to 2.11.50.20 and was expecting to fix the SOD issue. But unfortunetly i still faced SOD after 2 mins of screen off.
So now i just updated to 2.12.50.02 radio and i am expecting have some luck.
I have the energyrom GTX installed into my flash and i am using matt leo sense 1.6b android build.
One thing that i have noticed is that if i use a 2gb (class 4) sd card i dont get a single SOD and i have enjoyed android for 2 days without a restart. But as soon as i use my Tmobile supplied 16gb sd card (class 2) i dont get past 2 mins after screen dimmed, and these results are using the same windows rom and same android build and same radio.
So i definetly think that there is a role played by the sd card to get those annoying SOD's.
i will post back how my 2.12.50.02 radio stands in a bit.
are service and battery different from android and winmo?
2.12 for me is awful in both when i used it in winmo for me the best is 2.10.50.28
would 2.12 work ok in android? or service still bad
The latest 1.5 shubCRAFT build has really cleared up issues with auto-rotation. It was unusable on previous versions, I ended up turning it off. It works well now and I haven't noticed sleep of death anymore.

[Q] Is anyone suffering from constant reboot after Nand flash?

Hi guys.
Thanks for the great work you guys achieved!
I have been enjoying my HD2 much more these days.
I have been testing and flashing the nand roms on this forum and it seems all the desire roms are giving me a random reboot on my phone.
Not constant but at least twice a day.
I've uninstalled(or not installed any) apps or killer tasks.
The most stable nand rom I used without crashing much was the nexus rom.
Has the bug from Desire creeped into the nand rom based on Desire?
I've searched the forum and it says it could be corrupt data on the SD card
but I've cleared and formatted the SD card many times.
Any ideas what is causing the crash?
One key point is that my phone is in a flat where the signal is not very good so it is constantly looking for signal from the provider.
Apart from that I have all the HARDSPL 2.08, MAGLDR 1.11 installed and never had a issue flashing the roms.
Any advice or solution would be grateful! Thanks~
are you using an overclocked kernal? cause sometimes it happens when you are using it at full speed and starts rebooting itself, imho...
+1 on the Kernel theory here... Not all silicone is created equal, some phones can take the OC, some can not. Try and throttle it down with SetCPU.
Are you freezing up before the reboots??

I have the same problems.
I dunno
Now how would I check if I am using the overclocked kernal on my phone?

Not just overclocked kernels, undervolted kernels also don't work well for some people.
OP: which build are you currently using?
Install SetCPU and dial it down a little. If you don't know chances are you are not OC'ed, but that doesn't mean your CPU isn't taking some pain. Bring it down to say.... 800 and see if it holds on. Worth a shot.

Okie thanks for the quick reply
Currently I am running DFT stock Desire rom.
I think I flashed the phone with every nand rom on this forum....lol
The phone will just reboot when left alone.
So I don't know if it is crashing or freezing.
Sometimes it reboots while charging and sometimes just on standby doing nothing.
Doesn't seem to be getting warm but maybe I can't really feel it as it is bloody cold in my room.
I will try the SetCPU option and see what happens.
It may as well be something that simply occurs randomly. I flashed jdms nand 2 days ago & it worked great, yesterday tho I had to reflash wm coz I needed to reinstall copilot & deactivate it so I could get it on android. Once I went back to jdms nand, I started getting random reboots. So I went ahead & reflashed a 3rd time & its been stable once again.

It may also be just something it does early on, give it some time to settle...

i dont have this problem, i testing my rom on 3 days without sim-card. And it work well.
Thanks for the help guys!
Dialed down to 806 MHz.
I will report tomorrow if it reboots or not.
I get really jumpy when my phone suddenly vibrates on me...lol
i had it 2day for the first time, dont know why . im using the standerd rom from cotulla. i had it on the table while i was on my laptop n suddenly
it reboot itself
Yeah its scary coz you never expect it.
Imagine you are on your own watching the Ring or something and the phone jumps up!-_-;;
also keep in mind that your mainboard in the hd2 could be the problem. Had those reboot issues in winmo 6.5 (sometimes when doing nothing but mostly when watching youtube/cpu intensive service).
So i sent my phone to a repair center, they replaced the mainboard and since my phone doesn't reboot > sod whatever again and believe me there are an load of faulty mainboard around sadly
Second that, this girl had the same problem and she just got a warranty phone (new)
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I had no problem what so ever when using windows rom, and I used whole bunch of them.
Had freezing from time to time but never reboot issue.
I've searched and there is a whole forum and issue on the HTC Desire rebooting constantly....
The phone rebooted itself just now even with the 800mhz drop.
I am going reflash to stock wm rom and then back to the most stable Nexus Android rom and see what happens from there.
Those of you who haven't had this problem yet let me inform you that this problem doesn't start right away after you flash the rom, maybe couple of days or a week after it started.
Let's try and get it sorted out~!
same problems here, using mdj gingerbread 1.3
but its always freeze while running heavy cpu load apps like games, earth, youtube etc
tried donwclock to around 800 mhz but dont solved =/
Same problem here , randomly reboot.
I m using JDMS 1.62 , only happen on android , WM rom is working fine without reboot.
Well it seems I am not the only one having this problem here.
Anybody running Nexus rom and still having random reboot issues?
Or anyone running Android on SD card without and random reboots?
Could it be the the data on the phone is rewriting the wrong information and causing it some process to fail and to reboot?
It doesn't seem to be the hardware fault(then it would happen alot more often as hardware fail will be permanent and problem would show more frequently) although I have read on the Desire forum people have been sending their phone back for motherboard replacement with mixed results.
Currently reflashing again!

[Q] HD2 died over night?

Hi everyone,
furst of all i'm sorry for my bad english, but i'll try my best
Since i have installed now i think about 5 different NAND Versions of Android i have the Problem, that my Phone verry often just died over night.
At the Moment have the MarkinuX HD Clean Verison on my mobile.
Nearly every day i have the Problem, that either the Battery lost about 60 - 70 % overnight, or the phone just simply didn't react at all (battery removement is recommend).
What i just saw one night is, that die Screen just starts to light (not simply Background light - i had a withe screen and when i touch my Mobile, i got the normal unlock Screen).
Anyone who have an idea, what that is? Current Widget tells me that i have about 3-5 mA in Standby.
Thanks for any help

your phone is maybe rebooting trough the night. This can be caused because of gps issues + overlocking.. the only way to fix this is to do a clean recovery and install a good working Rom. You can try this:
EDIT: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE HSPL 2.08 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
Task 29 simply clears all the cache, data everything on your phone.. it makes your phone brand new.
download task 29 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644781
enter bootloader mode (hold volume down button while clicking on power button once) PS: make sure your phone is off.
install task 29
now you will have nothing on your phone.
install radio Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
install maglard 1.13 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893618
now.. you are ready to flash an android rom. I see that you want sense on your phone. I dont use sense.. so i dont know which android sense rom gps are working on. I recommend you to flash this rom: (it is gingerbread 2.3.2, everything works + its really fast) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933951
Thank you for the answer but these are just the step's i've made right know.
The only thing is that i didn't install the radio after tast24. Could that solve the Problem?
This nand version have no sense
I will try a fresh version now and report if it dies at night.
Thanks
No no no. The screen turning white is not a problem... it has happened to many people (myself included). Don't worry about it. It happens on different ROMS.
The battery drain is not related to your problem. It is probably just the build or kernel you are using and it doesn't mean your phone has 'died'.
If you are concerned, try another build.

Me thinks you mean "Task 29" and not "Task 24"....Anyway, u might want to try out the nand build in my signature...Its fast, stable and has sense.

Freezing, working really slow, etc.

Hello,
I've got a problem with my HTC HD2.
I have it for over a year. Since then I have formated it 3 times, 2 times I have updated HTC rom (from their website). The problem is, that every 1 month after format my phone is going wild. It responds very slow to my touch, it hangs, freezes, sometimes touchscreen doesnt work at all, sometimes I can't answer phones, everything turns on very slowly. What can be the problem? I found out that the problem gets bigger after installing CHT and themes. With clean soft it doesnt seem to go wild (however I haver never used clean phone for more than 2 weeks...)
Have you considered trying an Android ROM?
Posted from my NexusHD2... Word!
No I haven't beacuase I heard that it's very battery consuming. Also I like WM6.5 and stuff I can download on it (CHT, Themes, Apps). Not everyone has problems with very slow device after installing CHT and stuff? Is there any other fix not so dramatic as changing from WM to Android?
At the very least I would consider
Backing up all important data
Running a task 29
Flashing the Rom of your choice
I actually went back to winmo from a nand android rom to see how the battery compared and its just about the same I'd say. Going back to winmo almost forced me to run my hd2 over with my car. Try a nand rom its real easy to switch back if you don't like it.

[Q] htc hd2 heats and shuts down only over calls on any rom :(

Hi,
I am having problem with my HTC HD2
Flashed with Rafdroid HD 4.0.2 first worked fine for few months and then started crashing over calls, also had network issues with it. Simple test carried, using a sim in a different phone.
Replaced it with Nexus HD [Android 2.3.5 V2.9 Nand] by ttyung, it's really smooth and fast, except GPS shows my location in different city and heats up over calls, shutting it down. Need to remove the battery and then restart it. Apart from that it works fine, no issues whatsoever.
This is happening using any ROMS
Win6.5 [Original Rom]: Issues heats up and hangs randomly.
Win7: keeps restarting the phone @ random intervals.
Android: Stable but recently giving problems. Any incoming or outgoing calls, phones heats up and shuts down.
Any expert advice? Much appreciated for your time n efforts.
SPL: 2.08
MicroSD card: Sandisk 16 GB & 2GB class2
Partition for Nexus - 135MB
it's time to send your phone to HTC repair center.
It's a well know problem with a few htc hd2, heating, freezing or restarting.
Search the forum.
Did you overclock your CPU at any point? As Cariocap said, this should be most like by a hardware issue, probably the CPU, so you should send it to repair, but you should flash a stock ROM before doing so. This might also solve the overheating issue, should it be a software problem, but thats mostly impossible. There are a few overheating workarounds in the forum, but you should do that only if your phone is still covered by warranty, as it involves the freezer, opening up the phone, soldering, etc.
Hey thanks,
Guess, no choice left other than that. might have to send it service center
It's having problem with the stock ROM also...
Thanks........value your time, Cheers!!!
Cheers!!!

No didn't overclock or anything....If the problem gets resolved after it's back from the service center, I will add to the post.... Cheers!!!
did u overclock your phone to the limit
i think it is the main problem i know my old phone huwaei u8110 same problem
Error 260 Experts where r u?
I am facing another problem is Error 260 on my HD2 and can't even install original rom ....
Currently, using ttyung Brilliant Nexus HD 2.3 Nand Rom...
Reason to flash back to original rom, as I have to send it back to the service center due to hardware issues
"Error [260] : Connection
update utility cannot connect to your PDA phone."
no didn't overclock it.....But if it did, how do i check it?
may be this will sove all your problem
i dont know you are still following this thread or not but just wanted to share my experience with you as i thin it will surelly help you first of all i want to tell you that the country i am in is normal temperature everyday i mean if arround above 30 or 35 degrees and i am using hd2 with out any problem but it was not like that before........ it also heats up
anyway the solution i sujjest to you is first do hrdspl 2.08
then flash radio 2.15
then flash magldr again 1.13 cotulla the genious
then flash recovery 3.0 for nexus
i think you already know all this but now the tricky part and the awsome one also
i tried nexus hd win mango ice cream duttys they works fine all of them but battery and heating in hand like a stove battery gives me 4 to 5 hours
then i came across one rom and believe me i am surprised and i dont know how they have done it but it is doing its thing
anyway now to point
flash the rom named ultimate droid v3.3.0
they are sugesting kernel tytung r9
have issues with network i tried
rom is blazzing fast quick and ok
then i came across another thing i flashed
kernel tytung r14
and it has done the magic
now my htc hd 2 is like ice with perfect battery usage
i used it for 3 hours on wifi and 3 g network and loosed only 7 percent battery like and no sign of overheating just a little heat as electronics heats up a fraction as it was before and i am still using it and lovin all the tweaks in this rom
do this i hope it will do the trick by the way this all for ordinary hd2 not tmous
thankyou
