Sudden Battery Improvement ...

I thought I'd write this thread simply to see if it can work for others.
I have read throughout this site that it's good to allow your battery to become completely drained, and then recharge via the power adaptor. Some people even suggest to do it 2-3 times.
Yesterday, for the second time since I bought the phone several weeks ago, I decided to allow the battery to become completely drained. I then charged it using ONLY the power adaptor.
Results?
Before, when in standby mode, no radio, wifi off, screen off, I would lose about 1% battery power per hour through the night while sleeping.
This morning I was shocked. My battery was fully recharged just before midnight, and when I woke up at about 9am this morning, I had lost only 2%. Yes, it said 98% charge left.
WOOHOO!
Anyway, I guess it really does help to allow the battery to drain and fully recharge a few times in the beginning.

I seem to read somewhere that Lithium-ion batteries don't have to be drained to be charged properly. Moreover, it's just okay even if you keep on charging it with the green light on, i.e. reached fully-charged level. Well, I myself just got the HD2 and am pretty satisfied with its battery performance although I haven't really monitored it closely. I just charge it whenever I can.

I recycle my battery about once a month and it really helps.

You are right that it's perfectly acceptable to continually charge the HD2. You can't hurt the battery. I'm just saying that I tried this suggestion (from many other threads) and it seemed to improve my battery situation. It may not work for everyone, but at least it's something.

This is the way to treat batteries if you want to get the best performance out of them. There are numerous posts on this issue on here but it does not matter how many times it is mentioned, people still don't read.
What you get is a load of comments about how poor the battery life is without them going through the conditioning process that will get the best out of their battery, irrespective of what type of battery it is.
It is always advised that you go through several cycles of full charge and full discharge, preferably when the battery is new, to get best results, and to do this on a regular basis throughout the life of the battery.
Undertake a good deed for the day; spread the word!

You're right. I've read so many different opinions on this matter, including a lot of research on the Internet. There really does not seem to be any consensus on the matter.
One thing's for sure, I will continue to cycle through full charge and full discharge on a regular basis, perhaps once a month. In the meantime, I'll just top it off every day.

There is a more fundamental point to all this.
Its not the charging and discharging that makes the difference.
Its the working of the battery under load that allows the barry to achieve maximum capacity.
And constantly discharging/draining the battery will have a negative effect over time, shortening life span and usability.
Just charge and use as much as you can.

Strange that all previous phones I had I charged the same way - drain then charge for 12hrs first three times, and then drain / charge as I go - and battery always lasted satisfactorily to me ... I know it is a li-ion battery but for me it works every time and I am sticking to it until they invent better longer lasting batteries

What happens when you Recycle them tho Do you not have to buy another one as I see there not cheap.

I think he/she means re-cycle as in a charge/discharge cycle

I recently bought a HD2 and was reading very differing advice concerning teaching maximum battery capacity.
-do not let the battery go fully dry, it might harm it (source: wikipedia)
-cycle the battery, drain and fully charge a few times.
-charge as often and much as you can, the battery has no no memory, top it off as you like.
So,,,
I take it now, that the battery likes being used hard, especially when new.
Drain to 7% or so, recharge, drain till 7% or so, a few times.
So do not try to find energy saving mods in the beginning, but work it hard.
I noticed I get a huge battery drain increase when I set the screen backlight to 100 instead of 40. and what a nice display it is
So I figure thats nice way to get to know the HD2, to use it hard and bright, until the battery is 'conditioned' and I know what programs I love the extra brightness in.
I have not been able to drain the battery in a day of expected use yet, always had 23% left or so, which is almost a 4th..
Oh and sorry for off topic, but are any of you guys interested in the ebook reading capabilities on the device at all?
I use a free ebook reader called 'freda' on 'night mode' with black background and red letters, and due to the screen size it is so easy to use the HD2 as an ebook.
I snug into bed and read like 50 pages of an ebook and maybe drift off and the device will auto goto sleep too, if I go first.
It's great.

Battery Charging question

Hello all, I would like to know what % to start charging my phone is better to the battery? it's draining so much and there is no extra battery for sell in my country yet.
I did search many posts and all answers are different. I am so serious only this and I hope I can have a better way to keep my battery longer... thanks for your attention.

it's usually not good to let the battery totally discharge. So charge it before it completely dies.

oh really... but I already made my Note battery to 0% and shut off itself two times I also did charge on 40-50% to 100% bcoz I know I would have to stay outside without battery charge after. I wish I can get an extra battery in my country soon.

Your problem is probably not related to the battery but to some apparently draining all the juice. There is an app called something like betterbatterystats, not sure on the spelling though, it might help you to find those draining apps. It's been reported manytimes here in XDA.
And for your information it's better to charge when the battery dies for the first couples of times. I don't think that it makes a big difference after that.

U may also want to check the process or apps running on the background?
I freezes all the unwanted apps or process les one by one to try it. But in terms of the batt usage, I believe if u don't use it much often u can still stand by for at least a day. Mine running on full 3G, but screen brightness set to lowest and STILL facing some batt drain issue.

Charging from a total 0 is actually good and most technical people will suggest the same. In fact a full battery drain every month and then a full charge ensures your battery gets a full charge and a complete battery rotation. This is a good thing that you did and let no one tell you otherwise.
However, for normal usage the lower the better at which point you charge is best.
All of these batteries comes with xx full cycle charges - meaning how many times they will last from 0 to 100% before they degrade and start giving less efficiency (around 85% on future charges) after the full cycle charges are over.
You may want to use 10% as a good benchmark to ensure you dont lose an important call with your phone off. The battery saving mode on the Note will also help you reduce loads at times and improve battery life (at cost of system power).
Congratulations on using the Galaxy Note, which I feel is the best all in one device in the market!

I second this.. its funny how still people still believe those myths about batteries (like charge 100% before you use the device first time).. those issues are easy 5-10 years old.. batteries now a days a have smart chips built into them that can control the battery health

So, I can charge my battery anytime when needed?
Also, for screen brightness, i set auto brightness is better than setting it manually low?

Here finally I upgraded to ICS and honestly I get great ( huge ) battery life..
before also I get upgrade and i get very low battery life because of low calibration of battery without my knowledge..
so I've reverted back to gingerbread 2.3.5 and I'm happy
But who wants older version when the new shiny and superb upgrade of ICS is there anyone ???

Really here I provide you some small and very easy steps by using it you will be definitely be happy with your ICS upgrade ..
you doesn't have to go anywhere and doesn't have to buy anything with your valuable money ..

Then read it and get longer and more juice from your battery..
you have to follow some easy steps below
1 . First upgrade your ICS from any source whichever you like ... by kies air or Kies on PC or mobile odin or Via PC ODIN [ please do full charge of battery before any upgrade low battery can make your phone unusable or dead you can get more info on other threads ]
2 . Hope you have upgraded successfully.. then use your phone till your battery goes down to 5 % or below...
[ Caution ] Do not use it till it switched off automatically.
3 . Plug your charger and charge it till morning if you are charging at night or else charge it around 6 to 7 Hours even after full charged .. it's important step.. Do not Ignore it ..
4 . and then use it as per your requirements till battery shows 5% or below
5 . Repeat the step 3
6 . Do it around 8 or more charging cycles.
You get really miracle after 3 or 4 full cycles...
[ caution ] do not overcharge after that i.e just do 6 to 7 hours charging for around 5 - 6 cycles ... after that charge till battery shows full charge i.e around 3 - 4 hours. do not overcharge ..
made it habit of full charge cycles if you are comfortable with it. it really gives great battery life then average battery life.

It is better to charge randomly than doing full charges every time on Li-Ion batteries.
Doing full charges every time on Li-Ion will result in battery being end-of-life faster...
Overcharging is also bull****. The phone automatically stops charging the battery when it's fully charged.

As per research the full cycles of Li-on battery gives good hold of charge and also batter life..

in all honesty your post is as useless as mine right now.

According to me, It can be considered as myth . . If the battery needed to be calibrated then it must have been official.. n 2ndly the procedure above is not professional at all... So dnt even think it wud work.... Neways someone can always try and authenticate...:thumbup:

8-10 cycles after eachother is too much as well. 2 charges will be enough.

I totally agree with you!
Also, never let a battery dry for long periods, it will be damaged beyond repair.
Lithium Ion batteries perform better when you keep it as charged as possible.
I call this thread BS too... But I thank the user for the effort

Yeah ICS battery life sucks. I've done what OP said and I still get 4 hours less Battery life than what gingerbread would give me.

It's essential because all the states of your battery will be wiped in most of the cases while you upgrade also it's helpful to you if you upgrade your ROM.

In most of cases we have solved this issue with this procedure even i had this issue before now it works like a charm.

I did several full drain and full charge cycles when I upgraded to ICS. Still got the battery drain bug so I think its more luck than anything else if your battery lasts.
In my case I've discovered that power cycling the device after charging is the most reliable approach.
Install CPU Spy, run it after a charge, reset the timers, and then leave your phone in standby (screen off) for 30s or so. Unlock the phone again, and check CPU Spy - if the 'Deep Sleep' cycle is unused then do a phone restart. This has worked EVERY time for both me and a friend who I told about it. I'm getting similar battery performance to when I was running GB!

Battery life depends on a lot of things, ROM version is not the main thing.
This is my setup:
ICS version LQ3
Speedmod 3-3 Kernel
Disabled a lot of Samsung stuff (Readers hub, social hub...)
No automatic sync of twitter, e-mail, etc
I get pretty much zero battery drain when in deep sleep mode.
Of course when using the phone, screen on, Wifi On, autobrightness... battery usage is bigger and you can drain the battery in only 4 hours if you go for it.
Be careful with:
- Live wallpapers, I've seen cases where they remain active all the time
- Apps syncing data on background every few minutes (facebook, twitter, etc)
- Apps uploading a lot of data on background (google+, dropbox..)
- Games that crash and leave the CPU in a high power state until you reboot

I am agree with this reply.
If you want to get best battery back-up;
Disable all apps which are working in background, sync n update really eat the phone battery.
I am using my note with active mobile network or wi-fi for a whole day and playing games too without doing this F**KING trick.

The only way battery life gets sucked of Galaxy note is if it doesn't go into deep sleep when not in use.
To all those reporting low battery life: How much battery do you end up losing overnight. ( approx 6-8 hrs)
I typically lose <5 % ( best case scenario has been 1 %)
I had a problem last week and lost 30% overnight and found that it deep go into deep sleep.
and the best solution i found in another thread was to unlock the phone before unplugging from charger
Simply try it: For me normal time between charges is 36 hrs ( battery is near 25% level)

Okay first follow this Instructions and I will promise you the battery will last longer:
1.Turn your phone on and charge it for 8 hours or more
2.Unplug the charger
3.Turn your phone off and charge it for one hour
4.Unplug the charger
5.Turn on the phone and wait 2 minutes
6.Turn your phone off and charge it for one hour
7.Unplug, turn it on and use as normal. Your battery life should now be a lot better

I'll give this a try, but I have been pretty impressed with the battery on the recent ICS/JB roms.

Please don't do this, it's completely unnecessary.
Only calibrate when your phone is draining in areas of high signal, with no wakelocks. All you need to do in order to calibrate is to shut the phone off and pull the battery for a while.

I went looking for this the other day as my battery had started draining at a savage rate, and this method had worked for me before when I originally bought the phone. Can't hurt to try it anyway, as I found it useful before.
(In this case I later remembered that, due to wifi problems at home, I'd been messing about with settings. At some point, I'd turned on "Best Wi-Fi performance" and it was causing HUGE battery drain. So, if you're experiencing serious battery drain, make sure you don't have this turned on.
Menu - Settings - Wireless & networks - Wi-Fi settings - menu button - Advanced - untick "Best Wi-Fi performance".)

Note 4 N910C - Extended Battery Calibration Issue

Hello everyone.
(Please excuse my lengthy post, I had a lot of details to share. Thanks!)
So I recently bought N910C from a guy in Dubai, who gave me an extended 8500mah battery along with it, and claimed that it would last me 3 days easily (though later he claimed that it runs a day on full use, and 2 days no mild usage. Also claimed that standard 3220mah battery lasts less than 6 hours) but 8500mah would take around 6 hours to charge (it takes me 1.5 max, does 1% in a minute, with quick charger). I was however instructed to calibrate the battery properly, which I did, twice, tried the manual (draining and full charging) method, and also tried two apps: Battery Calibration and Battery HD.
Facts:
After buying, I flashed marshmallow stock rom for N910C and rooted with CF-Autoroot.
I have been using its own fast charger throughout, not the standard charger.
Here is the problem:
Before rooting and changing the rom, the battery was barely lasting and would shut down when around 30%. So I rooted the phone and did the calibration (manual+Battery calibration app), but the battery timing remained the same, or maybe increased slightly. The good thing was that it did not shut down at 30% and went down to 1%, where it stuck for good 15 minutes (with me browsing the net).
After I recharged it, I tried Battery HD app, which ran tests and gave me the following figures of battery usage:
30 minutes on internet: 5%
30 minutes on video: 6%
30 minutes on music: 2%
After this process, the battery again collapsed in its 30s%. I tried the battery calibration method again, but no luck now, battery collapses in its 30s. The guy who I purchased it from keeps sharing the snapshot and claims it was working fine before.
Now my questions:
I read some guides, including topics on XDA that suggested that Exynos drains more than snapdragon. So should I try to make a switch to a variant of note 4 with snapdragon, or would that make no major difference?
Is this battery faulty and I should change it? the Seller claims that he had to come on to an extended battery cause the standard was ****, so I shouldn't try and get another, it would be a waste.
What could be the problem if the battery falls in 30s% even after calibration, with exception to that one time?
Also, when it collapses in its 30s and I put it to charge, the screen shows "charging at 45%", why is that?
Lastly, I read here on xda that zerolemon extended batteries require the standard charger as the quick charger would give **** time and would charge them quickly. Will that apply to me as well? Although my battery isn't zerolemon, it's some unknown brand. And it seemingly charges quite quickly with the regular charger as well (when the phone is turned off).
He claimed that it should take my phone 6 hours to charge, it takes me barely 1.5 hours even on the extended battery, is there something I am doing wrong?
If you went through all of what I wrote, thank you for being so patient! So now, do I have any hope with this phone or should I just sell it off and maybe get an AT&T or T-mobile variant?

p.s. you signature, lol I have the same three phones with the same status, except that my G3 (which is also white) is in a coma and G2 is up for grabs.
