im looking for someone to direct me to a place where i can get parts for my Wizard..
I dropped my phone the other day, and the power button seems to have broken off the circuit board, this has happened before as well i just resoldered itmyself, but it has come to the point where the leads are about to fall off the switch..
And recently i also ended up breaking the rocker switch thats required to adjust volume on the phone and the speaker.
I need a place to get those 2 switches.. anyone have any idea where to look!!
thought about a new phone, but i just cant live without a touch screen and keyboard now i want my wizard back up and working
Thanks
First...help save my phone is the LAST thing you want to type if you want help. We will post simply to tell you to read the damned stickies. I am assuming then, that your phone was not insured. If it was in fact insured, it probably can be replaced using insurance, or I'd suggest ebay or craig's list. Good luck finding parts.
whoa sorry man.. i was just having a little fun.. didn't mean to be demanding there or anything..
I did have a look in some of the stickies, and faqs infact i posted in the buy sell trade broken thread too.. i thought id just ask again if anyone has had any luck buying parts from other sources..
Yes it is not insured..
and HTC america doesnt seem to have the parts.
that's all no need to get angry.. i apologize for my topic
I apologize...I was not angry, I simply was trying to say that we get so many "help..." threads, that often they get passed over, or looked at simply for us to say RTF stickies. I think you will get a better chance of help for parts if you topic'd it as such.
I still think that barring the busted wiz thread, ebay or craig's list would be your best bet. Also, you may check HoFo...they used to have a thread for folks selling busted devices.
oh ok... sorry about that then
yeah ive ben making the nightly rounds on hofo, craigs rfd, ebay not much luck the ones people are selling are working condition lol and a good chunk of change. I guess ill keep scouring.. if i find nothing i might just head over to a few small electronic shops and se if i can find a different switch to replace it with..
honeslty i was checking out a few other phones, and for those on a budget, feature wise you just cant beat the wizard. i dont think i could ever go back to a non touch screen phone.
Riding home today, I had my loved Legend in my jacket pocket and the zipper failed, letting the phone come out and skip down the road at 70+mph. Luckily, my parents were following me on four wheels and noticed. By the time they got my attention and we made it back, we couldn't find the phone at all. Using my Mom's phone I jumped on mylookout and made it scream. After finding it, the results literally almost made me cry.
After only two weeks of owning the most perfect fitting phone I've ever had, I now have this:
(56k/mobile warning)

Any one have any ideas as to where I can get it repaired? I obviously get calling HTC but I wanted to see if there were any other recommended options available.
I don't want to be pessimistic but I wouldn't be surprised if the cost of a new screen+chassis+labor is more than the cost of a replacement.
I had a very similar problem with my Legend. HTC will repair it for 270 euros..

As of today, that'd be 341.22 USD. Purchase price was more around 500 through myworldphone so l have some figuring out to do. Guess it's time to start posting some stuff up on craigslist.. I *MUST* have this phone back, new or repaired.
I will say about the quality of the phone that it still operates just fine as the music unpaused when I hit the optical and I've been hearing notification/alarm sounds, if I could only find a way to control it through PC. I've tried screencast but can't get the phone to be recognized through USB (I'm assuming doubletwist is autoenabling the USB drive mode, not allowing the phone to switch to "sync" and I sure as hell can't do it)
Any ideas there?
I find it quite amusing that the phone is still in one piece. It is truly a sturdy build, 99% of all phones on the market would probably be separated into a zillion small, small pieces after taking that kind of hit.
Still i shame though. The picture made me shiver at first glance.
OMG...i feel freakin sorry for you dude will try and help you...google...here i go!
ok, i could find you the digitizer...

or here...
http://cgi.ebay.com/Touch-Screen-Gl...ccessories&hash=item3a5b46a6e6#ht_1977wt_1168
will try to find the chassis and the buttons.
I feel sorry too man, I love the phone because its one of the best build phones I cant get a scratch on the screen!

I ended up ordering another off of Amazon after taking mine apart to analyze the damage. Previous posters were correct, it would cost just as must to order a new so friend took care of me and got me another.
Interesting part is that (I'm assuming this) the first phone (also from Amazon) seemed to be from Europe, as the default language was UK English or whatever. It also came with a black A/C adapter plug.
The second phone came in with "CN Thai" as the default language, ultimately causing me to just give up changing it and root the phone. Anyway, that phone came with a *white* A/C adapter, no english defaults, Java and one other app starting with a P that was *not* on the first phone.
I wonder just how many out-of-the-box ROMs there are for "unbranded" phones...
Check your ROM version, and post it here.that is an asian version for sure...
Just root your phone and flash the wwe rooted rom.

So as the topic title says, I'll be going to Verizon this upcoming Saturday to get my phone replaced. I've already posted a little bit about it in an unrelated thread and I need some more information to make some preparation. Here are some of my questions:
1) The reason why I'm getting it replaced is due to my phone having a semi-severe backlight bleeding. For those who own a SLCD Incredible, how many of you have backlight bleeding and how bad is it?
2)I did a full back up of my phone using Nandroid and was planning on restoring it on to my soon-to-be new phone. However, I came across a post that said that it is not a good idea to restore the backup on to a different phone because the backup also contains phone ID and whatnot. If this is the case, what is my next best option?
3) Is it normal for dinc's screen to get hot? I was streaming some music through 3g today with the phone in my pocket and the screen became incredibly hot to touch.
That's it for now... thanks for reading.

#1. I haven't had a backlight bleeding issue, *knock on wood*
#2. Honestly, no clue.
#3. Again, haven't had this issue *more knocking on wood*
I meant good by the post, sorry if it sounds quick and uninformative.
Any possibility it was the battery side you were feeling get hot, I know if I have done a lot of processor stuff like downloading and such the battery side will get pretty warm, not smoking hot but darned warm, kind of freaked me out. Never the screen though, but my screen is an AMOL screen too.
Best practice would be to use something such as Titanium Backup to backup and restore your apps, SMS Backup+ for your texts, and back up your contacts to either Google or your sd card.
Also, a different baseband version *may* alleviate your heat issue.

It was definitely the screen... unless the battery was somehow heating up the screen?
Unless you know for sure that the previous phone will never be refurbished and sent back out, you can't restore your old nandroid. that contains the phone's unique android id number that some apps use to send information. if you reflash it onto your new phone, two phones will have that number which could lead to issues in the future.
i read about this somewhere i'm not crazy haha

Ah yes, that's what I read, too. I just wanted to make sure.
I went to Verizon today just to be safe and they were all out of dincs and suggested that I call customer service. I called Verizon and the CS agent told me that the warehouse she is assigned to was all out, too, then transferred me to a tech agent who can send it out from another warehouse... and guess what? His warehouse was all out, too. Luckily, I'm under extended warranty, so they'll ship it as soon as they get one in. I didn't realize dincs were so popular.
I have noticed my phone getting hot and I thought it was either the battery getting hot or CPU use or something but could it really be the screen? I have a slcd. Anybody know what makes it hot. I know there are half a million factors on making it hot tthough.

i tried today no luck. on my 4th replacement phone and asked if they are replacing the incredible with any other phone since ive had so many problems. put me on hold for 5 mins came back and told me i could take my wifes upgrade or ship out from a different warehouse, or wait for an early upgrade in december. a coworker of mine got her incredible replaced with droid x.
Looks like no more Incredibles are going to be manufactured anymore? The representative told me that there wont be anymore new replacements so the best I could do is either get a new phone or get another recertified.
Oh and the newest replacement also has a pretty severe backlight bleeding.
Hi DZ owners, I want to share a story with you:
*walloftext*
I had my DZ for about a year.
Then it was stolen one evening in a place full of people. I never thought I would see it again.
But then after about half a year I got 2 parties, which accused each other of having it.
Through intimidation on luck of one of them still having it I have got it back.
That imbecile did neither sell or use it. He just had it lying around in a cupboard as a kind of trophy, propably even smasehd it on ground some times... (And I wondered why I couldnt track it.)
Now the phone is a terrible mess. The battery was empty for a long time, degraded to not even last a day. The display (not the glass) was broken.
Then I bought a new battery and display for about 30€ replaced the display and while opening one of those small fragile connectors at the side of the board (I dont actually know what they connect, can someone tell me?), the lower one broke but I kludged it with a small piece of tape in place.
Fine everything worked, my Virtuous Unity install boots with /data as I left it.
The reading of my notes and contacts from that time really got me a nostalgia flash.
The sdcard was gone (I actually searched that guys box of stolen phones). Putting a new one in, phone mounts and stops complaining. After that I turned it off, wanting to sleep. The next day I loaded a fresh rom, QuadraSense because Virtuous Unity uses too much ram. Put it on SD and guess what? The SD (any of 5 microsds i have.) cant be mounted, not with FAT, not with EXT. Can the broken connector from the insides cause this?
But when I shake the phone the display brightness varies, (the kludged clip is not really stable) so I guess the connector is either for the display energy or the sensor but it could be multipurpose.
When I have fixed that, what will propably be the next problem with this phone?
Should I invest more time/replacement stuff into it or just buy a new one? Are there newer phones with physical keyboard?
I had a Motorola Milestone 2 for a while for really cheap but their keyboards suck because the keys stop working or stick, it seems like the existing MS2s have reached their end of life. (I have tested 4 MS2s all the same.)
I am thinking of a Galaxy Note if not keyboard. Anyone here knows about the openness and rom diversity? (I am browsing that forum right after this post so this is not just a lazyass question, more of an if someone just has the info in mind right now.)
lol at the existing tags!
sounds like the connection to the sdcard slot is damaged as well as the main flexcable as it sounds like you replaced the lcd
I don't know your situation but if it were me id find it gratifying to kick the guys ass and demand a brand new g2, but to each there own
personal opinion there isn't a better phone on the market right now than the g2/dz, at least not for my needs so it may be worth your time fixing this one
(that guy sounds like the kind of *******s that deserve very bad things)

What cell phone does this guy use? You should just take it out of his hand and tell him you're even. I did that to a guy who stole my skateboard once. He was on steroids and weighed 50lbs more than me, but I guess I used the f word enough times loud enough that he realized he was wrong? I don't know if i'd try that again though hahaha

I'll pay him a visit today when hes back from work, I think hes got enough money to buy a new one. His currently used phone is an old Sony Erricson thing. As for if I am even with him, dont know my physical condition is not the best but with the power of ale one can not fail. XD

Hello,
I got my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Stolen cant track it as i did not have tracking on it and battery was empty (gps is off)
I am getting tomorrow ne phone (same)
What options are out there.
I often forget phone to desk or to mall or to car etc.
how to prevent that happening again?
I have heard that Samsung Gear watch will vibrate when it will loose connection with my Galaxy Note 3
Can i set it up this way that my watch will also vibrate and make noise (also phone?) when i am too far with my wach from phone.
Can i change the distance?
This prevents me forgetting phone somewhere when i move elsewhere?
I did also find this:

Or is there more options with similar devices?
As this proximo should exist also for android devices and not only for iphone
You could simply learn to be more responsible.
Forgetting your phone is your own fault. You're just going to have to condition yourself to not let the phone out of your hands. Done with it? Put it in your pocket.
Set up a Samsung account, you can use it to track your phone. As for gear options, no idea.

Android Device Manager can track a phone, lock, and wipe it. It can also ring it if misplaced. It's best not to lose it, of course. You can enable it from Google Settings.
First of all ShadowLea i have not blamed anyone else that my phone got stolen. And phone WAS in my pocket.
If you have no knowledge is there any other similar devise that i mentioned above why to comment?
You think that i don't feel bad already that having my phone stolen and now you come here to point to me with ur finger and ***** that it is my fault?
Thank you for your "friendly" attitude.
If you have no idea is there any similar device then why to comment?
I have no use of this samsung tracking as when phone is stolen they will turn off phone and replace sim card so tracking device is not an option or...?
Question was will the Samsung Gear wach alarm me when i am let say 1 meeter away from phone (alarm on phone via voice and same with wach)I have heard that watch will actually vibrate?
or is there any other device Similar to devices i mentioned above.
Maby some small sticker type alarm so when phone (that has sticker or... attached) and will be too far from me it will raise an alarm.
Bit too harsh dude. He was merely giving you advise.

next time just set up android manager and set up a samsung account and use the device tracking
or if you are rooted you can use cerberus app and put it in the system app with this
the only way to remove the app its by doing a full factory recovery
if they reset the phone the app will still be install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
So if user puts in his own sim card i will still have full control over that phone?
Usually phones (those new ones) have this factory reset button inside. If they press that one it will not help? As thieve can`t remove that app?
I wanted myself to push that security even further. As idea is same as that kensington has.
So for example i am in a pub. Phone is in my pocket and i am on dance floor or waiting on bar line to buy my drink or i go to toilet and i place phone for second to sink or toilet paper holder i do my things and when i start to move away from the phone or someone is stealing phone while i do not notice (those thieves are skilled and can pump in to you and say oh sorry or what ever and next thing you notice is that phone is gone.) and it will raise an alarm on my phone and on that secondary device (key holder on my pocket etc) and both devises start to make loud noise so i will notice when something like this happens.
I start to leave toilet while phone is still on the sink system will alarm as i am away from phone for example 1 meeter or thive is walking away with my phone and it will raise an alarm.
That was the point.
I have searched for many devices that can actually be useful.
But thank you for your effort to help me.

A few Smart watches have these features, Galaxy Gear was mentioned earlier, apparently so does the HOT watch.... One of it's features is if you leave your phone behind when it gets a certain distance away(probably 10 meters as it's bluetooth) it will vibrate and let you know about it.
As was also stated google have Android device manager. You can locate, ring or wipe and lock your phone. As long as it can be contacted through mobile internet or wifi this will work... Read how here - http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39...t-android-device-with-android-device-manager/
Avast anti theft has geo-fencing feature and a whole load of other goodies too.
I did find this topic:
http://www.inc.com/john-brandon/5-start-ups-the-samsung-galaxy-gear-might-kill.html
they write there at point 4:
4. StickNFind
This phone finder system is pretty cool. There's a leash mode that sounds an alarm if you leave your stuff behind. The thing is, if the Galaxy Gear is a big seller, there's no reason to use the stickers if your main concern is losing a phone. The Gear watch will alert you when you leave your phone behind. It even locks the screen of your phone when you walk away and unlocks when you appear again. There are a bunch of other companies who make similar finders, including the Tile app. If they're not paying attention to the Gear now, they should.
As i understand i need to get sticker for my wach and it will raise an alarm when i am too far from my phone.

Let's be fair, the RESPONSE was Harsh, patronizing and judgmental.
Of course it's partly fault of the user. But when someone feels the needs to state the obvious, it's usually not to be informative, but rather to glout.
The BOLDED quote is not advice, but judgmental opinion at best, and a emotional jab at worse. Now granted, while certain things deserve judgment, call it what is is, instead of cowering away and calling it "advice".
At least, hopefully, you (OP) turned on Reactivation Lock, so they can't bypass your screen lock (surely you had one) by flashing your ROM.
Don't forget to call the service provider to blacklist the IMEI so it can't be sold on the black market. This will prevent future thefts.
Yes, StickNGo is a good alternative. But it doesn't look like they have a use case required for your reversed direction location. Worth noting is that Android 4.3's Bluetooth LE stack is still buggy enough to cause usability issues and also if you notice StickNGo's indiegogo, lots of people are getting replacement tags due to some problems.
The other recommendations here are great so far. :good:

Future proof yourself. But there's a nice niche you can do to the old stolen phone... the imei on the phone... can be blacklisted... the serial on it... can be blacklisted... bam... whomever uses it is stuck with a tablet, nothing more.
Had a friend buy what was thought to be a good phone, seemed to have been blacklisted in another province in canada, and well he was sol. He blacklisted his proof of purchase s4 he traded for the other phone, but both him/them have equally good tablets now...
Blacklist it via your cell provider. See what they can do, as they still have the old information for your account.

Good, I have little problem with people who have the decency of calling something what it is, instead of wasting time being disingenuous.
Here's the thing, few lessons are as memorable as those resulting from experience. If your goal was for him to learn his lesson, then I think our OP will have no problem remembering after paying $$$ for this lesson, even without the extraneous comments.

This is news to me, but it looks like you're right about the existence of a national blacklist. Until now, my understanding was that the Europian Union, was the only place with a national/international blacklist.
When did your "friend" lose his/her phone? Because it looks like the national blacklist was only VERY Recently implemented

Looks like Bluetooth LE is just not properly implemented in Android. Bluetooth LE reliant products across the board are either having serious technical issues with Android based systems or have out right declined to support the operating system.
Found at Tilesapp FAQ:
No Android support?
At this time Android does not support Bluetooth 4.0. A few Android phone manufacturers have released BLE SDKs, however they are lacking in quality and stability. At Tile, the quality of our products is of utmost importance, and until there exists an Android platform that meets our quality standards, we will not be releasing a Tile app for Android.

Let's be fair, the RESPONSE was Harsh, patronizing and judgmental.
Of course it's partly fault of the user. But when someone feels the needs to state the obvious, it's usually not to be informative, but rather to glout.

To be fair you have to admit it's entirely the fault of the user. Neither the phone nor the sink did anything wrong and I'm pretty sure the pocket didn't play a part in it either.
I agree with Lea that he needs to condition himself NOT TO FORGET THINGS. I he forgot the $1000 phone he can just as easily forget his wallet or his keys, and they can't be traced or wiped.
And dude the hobby thing plays little part in it. I'm on a 1.500 cal lc paleo diet and never forget anything. As you taught your body to burn fat and gain muscle, teach your brain to remember the important things.
Buy Cerberus app from play store. It's probably the best in the category. Factory reset and changing sim cards won't remove it if you implant it as a system app. Tracking works from a PC or via sms. It has a lot of features like sounding alarm, taking picture, locking phone, wiping phone, tracking, recording sound, recording video etc. ..
