Hi, first of all I'm since today a happy galaxy tab user, before this I wasted time with the Dell Streak.
Now my question, the Taskmanager Widget shows something like battery usage box, a number of running apps and "ea". What does this ea mean?
Thx

Nobody out there with the same question?
I don't have such a widget. Where did you get your tab?
I have the widget. It was on my homescreen on first boot.
It's called Program Monitor in the widget list.
SGS is equipped with such a widget as well. It looks like counter of running applications. I don't know what E stands for, but the A is for applications for sure.
It was on top of my homescreen, like mentioned before,
okay afer thiking about that,
maybe Executed Applications XD
got mine in in a lokal store in germany, media markt

Hi there,
Well, I have an unusual problem with my galaxy S. After flashing to jp3, the phone's clock keeps lagging. No matter if i set it to automatically or manual, in 1 hour it lost 3 minutes already. I had a task manager, but set it to ignore the clock app, then unistalled the task manager but still the same problem.
Anyone has any suggestion?
thanks
PS : i dont want to use the clocksync app, its not usual for the phone to behave this way...
Problems like theres are caused by task killers or just by running way too many apps/widget/system monitors at once. Also some apps may not play nice with these early froyo builds. I had apps FC on me and lag for no good reason. Using JP2 /JP3
My brother brought his phone to me to 'fix' the lag and clock.
He was honestly using like 3 diferent clocks, 3g watchdog + net usage + sys monitor + seepu++ + quick desk + powerstrip and multiple battery monitoring apps... it was insane you cant expect your clock to function properly ! =p
It makes me wonder what half the people complaining about 'LAG' actually have running on their phones. I bet their PC's at home aren't much better heh. =p
I i just use retro clock widget and twitter widget. With or without the task killer = time not syncing. I used task killer just few times, not on auto kill setting anyway. I removed the task killer and now i uninstalled retro clock too ( i use it since day 1 and had no problems so far, but hey... ).
I noticed from the begining, when i flashed the jp3 rom that the clock was 30 minutes behind the normal time, but din't pay too much attention...
Now we have some what of a stable build running on our HTC HD2's. I would say it's great enough for everyday use.
What are the apps that we must need/have?
List them here! I'm new to Android so I don't know the apps like that. I would love to know what you guys have or can't go without.
Thanks!

Advanced Task Killer -> Task manager, must have.
Any Cut -> Add any shortcut/action to homescreen
Launcher Pro -> Advanced homescreen options and smoother interface (a few of the Andriod build the devs are putting together already have this cooked in)
Sense Analog Clock Widget -> HTC Sense style homescreen clock (if you're not running sense already, obviously)
XDA-Developers -> Complete forum app, must have!!!
Lots more great ones depending on your needs/interests, these are some apps that pretty much everyone should have, IMO.
Enjoy!
ColorNotes - A colour coded notepad app. Can place individual notes on the home screen.
3 (pronounced "cubed") - nice player, can scroll through music or jump by letter. So far I seem to like it better than the other ones out there.
HistoryEraser - Erases Android Marketplace search history among other things. Great if you don't have a rooted rom or don't feel like mucking about with a file mananger/adb.
Taskpanel - task killer with ignore lists and auto kills when low on memory also has a widget. Not sure how it compares to advanced task killer. I think ATK is more automated/simpler so probably the one to go with.
MailDroid - Email app for hotmail, gmail, yahoo, etc. Couldn't get hotmail added to the default mail app.
Tricorder- Hand-held thing from Star Trek. Displays compass/GPS, microphone sound input, 3g/wifi connectivity data.
Frozen Bubble - fun puzzle-ish game from linux.
I'll second Launcher Pro, although I don't think I've ever been able to install it onto a rom that didn't have it built in (using the eclair desire v5 rom). Theres also Linda file manager (installed by default), not sure how it compares to the ASTRO? one.
EDIT: For a file explorer try Open Mananger instead of Linda. Its open source and free, available from the marketplace. It's pretty good.
Dropbox - for storage off your phones memory and can be used on your pc.
XDA Forums App - A Must have.
Setcpu - CPU overclocking or downclocking(saves some battery)
i have a few of the above, i also like
mp3 downloader(download songs)
ringdroid(make ringtones out of any music on your device)

Sense, could not find any other way to use contact groups. Can anyone give me alternative, Just sense does not make any sense to use
Mobile Banking? To bad that's only for BoA. Is there one for Chase?
BTW: XDA app is great! Not going to the web anymore unless I need to download something.

Page Once personal Assistant is awesome! Consolidates bank accounts, credit cards, bills and more in one app and it has push notifications. Must have for financial!
Just Downloaded this free game called Replica Island. I have to say, i'm very impressed. It's like a pseudo-action/RPG type game. You control a little android around.
My must have apps are:
Handcent - SMS
StarContact
SetCPU
Euchre
Cribbage
Wish there was a WobbleHD app...

So does 10.1 run on the browser now? I hit the search and nothing popped up. I would think that would be the main app everyone wanted. Adobe flash 10.1.
Hi,
Just got my Xperia Arc and should I be using Advanced Task Killer? I noticed that apps are always running in background and I haven't touched that apps yet, like sometimes I will see Let's Golf, map, clock, etc.
Another question is, I organized the apps the way i like them to be, but when I reboot the phone, everything turns back to the way it was before I organized them and even the bookmarks on the browser that I deleted came back.
Thanks
Unfortunately this is software issue which should be solved in the next software update which will be released one day..
Well, the second point is, but the first thing is just how android works. A task killer is possible, some people say it works, other people says it is using more battery than it saves, I am at the second group and never use task killers... You can find quite a few nice information about it when you google this.
Sent from my arc or optimus 2x
so would it be better to return the phone and ask for a new one, or wait for the software update?
A few days ago i noticed some not so smooth scrolling when in my calls log. So i thought the phone had been on too long and did a reboot (which solved the scroll lag).
After the boot. I went into the menu and most of my apps had disappeared (i think mainly on my sd). After a minute or two they appeared (out of order and all on the last menu ) so im guessing it was the sd card (which is the standard class 2 i think which came with the phone) My sd has like 12gb free still. And i only have like 25 apps/games. Anybody noticed similar things? And would upgrading my sd to a higher class slove the prob?
I also noticed that when my phone is on standby and i open the game pad without unlocking the phone (takes 20 secs maybe to launch) then press the back or home button. The 4 quick links next to the menu icon have no icons just blank sqaures for a 10 seconds or so. The same if i open the menu a few icons are the blank ones then they appear. Is this the same for other people?
I never noticed this problem before. And its bugging me. The phone is not rooted, uses the standard wallpaper. And only i have google search on the main screen no widgets. Any suggestions? Im gonna try a reset but thought i would see if other people had any similar experiences. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated
What you are probably seeing here is Android's garbage collection system in place. Basically, when apps need memory, the OS will transparently kill apps that aren't in use without telling you. Generally, the user shouldn't really notice it... but things like your apps not all showing right away is normal when the home app is starting back up after having been killed previously. Things that are relatively resource intensive, such as the Playstation emulator built into the Xperia Play, will most likely cause all other apps that are non-essential to be killed.
I don't know if you've used other Android phones before, but it's pretty normal.
Yeah this is my first android phone . Suppose if its pretty normal i will get used to it in time. Maybe i will unroot the phone and remove all the crap and see if that makes it any better. Thanks for the reply btw

what launcher are you using? if you use launcher pro, there is a "system persistant option" this means it will not kill your launcher in the background, and the apps disapearing issue should not happen

Im just using the standard play UI. Thinking of trying Launcher Pro or GO Launcher EX. If i unlock my phone before opening the game pad the icons are there. Also if i give my phone 20-30 secs after rebooting my apps are where i left them. So i guess i need to have more patience lol
Hi,
I likes to use Weather and twitter,FB apps of Win8.But hot to close them after opening them?I have to go to Task manager to kill them.
When i go to task manager there was Suspended written in left side of Application name.
What does it indicate?
What is difference between Suspend & Killing??
Sorry for Bad English
My basic understanding is that it is sort of like a mobile OS (Android, iOS...). Suspended apps are kept in RAM for quick resume but not actively processed. They can also be cleared from memory automatically as soon as it is needed for something else. In theory, you shouldn't have to worry about it, just let it do it's own thing. In practice, task manager is there if something goes wrong.
Correct, Supended apps are held in memory, but they do not use any processor nor do they have any effect on battery life. Very effecient way of multitasking like Windows Phone 7.5.
someone tweeted about it to Sam Moreau in channel9.
and he explained people have to stop thinking about "closing" an app and have to close apps to get your computer work fast. of course they have to tweak it.
and difference with killing, its apps are suspended so they eat some memory but its not like it will kill your memory.
with all apps suspended and all, still I use like 10-15% less memory than windows 7. which is amazing
This is not completely true. Several days ago, I was playing with Windows 8 and I have noticed that it got significantly slower. So I opened a task manager and weather app was using 60% of the CPU. In background. I am not sure, what was doing but I guess that it was drawing weather animation?
Also another drawback is that you cannot control what is in "app switching menu". You just have to keep sliding apps to the right and hope that you find one you are looking for. Apps you don't need don't close and apps you do need might suspend/close.

But its because its Dev Preview. and remember these apps are just place holders to have something to show in windows 8. its not like they will be there in the end, since they aren't optimized for example.
so the point is... you will not have to close the app. but since its a dev preview it will have problems. sometimes i cant even type here in IE desktop because it gets slow i guess for the spellchecker. and it wont stay that way in the end, they are fixing all this stuff, adding new features and making awesome apps for stuff like photos, people, messenger hub. stuff like that. but these apps you see like [email protected] and weather are just placeholders.
also developers have to optimize everything for their apps.
and the apps switching is for tablets, the swipe thing. you only click on the left of your screen and it goes to next app. if you pause a second and click again you will go back to your last app. also you can use scroll wheel. and alt+tab and win+tab. and ctrl+win+tab, ctrl+alt+tab.
so you don't have to think these apps you got in dev preview are going to be in RTM or beta. and apps will not be optimized to run nicely (like they do in WP7).
this OS needs work and it will have alot of bugs.
