No, the kernel is on a separate partition.

I don't know about that
Anyways... To restore you first have to format to ext4 from rfs using rio.'s Multi flasher and then restore CM7 Backup! Make sure the kernel you are using boots on PsychoGame's CM7

i tried it i restored a nandroid backup when i tried to revert to stock rom from jellybl*** rom but still my kernel remained kuro kernel and did not changed to stock one. i did a full restore.

so if i restore a nandroid backup when i am running some other rom like cyanogen then my kernel in nandroid would come back
BTW my question was that how can backup only the kernel not the whole rom

No need to backup whole rom...flash your custom kernel with kernelflasher v2;it easily installs your new kernel and automatically makes a backup of your installed kernel:thumbup:.Just follw this link-

No need to flash separately.
