Looks like it isn't getting the new Sense UI according to that article. The latests CM6 nightlies have really polished things up, and a lot of things are happening with the stock exchange integration. I'm pretty solid on CM6 these days. I'll be happy when a new kernel is released. Other than that...I think HTC has already offered me about all they're going to be able to.
@OP
Make sure you post in the correct section! This belongs in General, not Developement!
Thanks for posting this! I was literally minutes away from ordering an unlocked US/AT&T Aria on Ebay. Finally a phone worthy of replacing my 3 year old LG KS20, and now with EU 3G capabilities, wieeeee!
Taiwan version is available today and should work with Euro 3G support.
Isn't 3g support a hardware thing? If so, will this rom work on an aria? It would be great if it's froyo and you can make it work.
(And I'm sure you can...)
You will be able to dump this ROM and put it in the US Aria. The radio is different since its not AWS. They are both quad band GSM but here we use 850/1900 for 3G, Euro is 2100 & AWS would be all 3.
We will be able to take out things like the hew HTC Sense, something I am excited for.
If you are using the phone in the US, you cant just install the ROM, you are going to have to install a custom ROM like we have been doing now.
As for the housing, that will be easy to get. I used to rep HTC and they are sending me a housing and the phone when he can get his hands on a few.
Once its out, you will have the perfect Aria.

I agree.
I would love to replace the housing. What colors would be available?

Presumably just the gloss black, white and green. Personally, I rather like the at&t Aria's rubberised case.
I wish we could get a clear cover so we could show off the yellow insides.

I think i'm not the only one that hates senseUI so my following questions are:
1. what developers would put the effort to max this phone to it's best?
2. Will we have cyanogen?
3. will we have screen calibration?(i really god used with true color rather than "blue pushed" colors).
Please if any developer would love to put a bit of comfort to our hearts please post here that you would do the best for this phone
So looking forward for it!
Edit: posible to swich roms from G2 to z and other way? that would be nice, theoretically it's very posible same hardware!
looks like the G2 will have stock froyo(not sure) but i really hope we can cyanogen mod on this thing! still don't think desire z is going to replace n1 on the priority list.

You are quite right, but alao g2 might take the place of n1,and g2=desire z,it'q all a matter of rooting i think.
Damn i will really miss the led flash from n1) really really usefull for me.
LED flash? G2 also has a flash with its camera, if thats what you mean..
Also, to your 3rd point, if you're talking about the blue tinge issues and such, these screens won't have those issues as they're not AMOLED's, but SLCD's.
Aaaa sry i mean trackball led flash.

dang. i was hoping for super amoled display. well atleast with slcd we won't be getting anymore burnin. hopefully.
Unfortunately for now, Only Samsung has the rights to use S-AMOLED. Its their tech anyways. But I believe from next year fall onwards they will start selling S-AMOLED screens to other manufacturer's.
For me S-amoled is not that interesting anymore, really curios about this S-lcd and it's multitouch capabiliti really hope is better than n1 or desire.

Cyanogen tweeted earlier this month saying that he's getting a G2, so I think it's safe to say that the G2/Desire Z will have lots of developer/hacker support. Honestly, that's part of the reason I'm so excited about the G2. I'll likely be keeping it for the full 2 year contract, so having a phone that's so supported by XDA is a huge advantage.

I've been done something useful on Motorola Milestone and I've ever been in HTC WiMo devices modding etc.
Selling Milestone, HTC Desire Z already ordered and waiting for its arrival. I'm in.
First of all, we have to see if it's unlocked, then we can play with the system: putting Sense on CyanogenMod maybe is possible, we'll see. I'll do better than I can.

I'm a little curious which one would work on at&t 3g. I prefer no sense and think cyanogen will support that before sense.

So...who wants to build the first 2.3 ROM? (Well...when the source code is released. )
that would be so exciting, gingerbread looks so refined. The keyboard screens I've seen look nearly identical to the iphone, and that is to date the best on-screen keyboard. I'm stoked.
Let's set the timer for htc, I wonder how long it will take them to push a sense version out? I hope to see the new sense from the desire and also a full bluetooth stack, im dreaming big but that's the reason for the season!

It would be really nice if HTC supported the incredible, but I won't be surprised if it isn't. However there are a few reasons why we might get it (and they're all purely speculation):
1. Evo and Incredible run off very similar framework/hardware, would be two birds one stone sort of deal to help reinforce customer loyalty
2. The original Droid got froyo and that was almost a year after its release. We are in a similar situation and seeing how cool HTC is with updates we might get lucky.
3. Our hardware is still well within the requirements for gingerbread. As a matter of fact the Nexus S has a 1Ghz processor so there's no reason from a hardware standpoint NOT to do it.
Conversely, HTC did out a number of new devices (G2, MyTouch 4G, Desire Z etc) which might be a higher priority for them to get on gingerbread. Its hard to know for sure, but speculating is fun

The Nexus One is getting Gingerbread today and the Incredible/Evo have almost identical hardware, so I say the odds are in our favor. If not, we will definitely get a port from the Nexus One or an AOSP build from one of our great developers.
alright i am a sickass noob! *cant express that enough* i mean it even took me like 5 min to find a way to post something on this *so yes this is my first time posting something*, i am just wondering if i am rooted *which i am* and a new update comes out, ei Ginger, how would that effect my phone if i clicked update? would it update my phone and i'd lose root? or would it simply brick my phone? real curious havent been able to find a plain answer anywhere

Many times it does, but I find it fixes common typos pretty well. The main thing I hate about the HTC keyboard is the autocorrect... I'm NOT a fan of it just popping up there and then it being difficult to get it off the screen or saving a bad spelling in the dictionary. I guess that could be reason enough to turn it off though... lol.
According to the video on the nexxus s site its not just autocorrect but autolearn and correct so the auto correct adapts to the user better thus eliminating the usual hatred for most autocorrects. So far is learning me quiet well.

I lost my rooted Aria with Froyo 2.2 and all the good stuff on it. What i got as replacement from insurance already has android 2.2.2 installed. Can u imagine how painful it is? i m keeping an eye on this thread and this webpage.. Haven't had the chance to get to radio shack. I did call them up and asked them to hold one for me. Even though my new Aria is on 2.2.2 and I am stuck with an un-rooted sense, it's less painful being able to use the trick to allow installing apps from unknown sources, so I still have some decisions to make---be cheap and go for the amazing deal of the $29 Inspire--or future-proof myself and wait for the SGS II.

That thing blows the iphone 4 away as far as specs go. Its screen is an inch bigger than the ip4, twice as much ram, and a dual core faster processor. And a much better camera. Sounds more like this phone is going to be direct competition to the sgs2 and iphone5.

This happened to me too I'm so sad. The microphone on my old aria decided to crap out and now I'm stuck with a refurb 2.2.2 aria. I hope someone can figure this out soon...
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones as far as warranty goes. After having WM phones for a few years I got my Aria in Feb. Actually wanted a 4" phone but decided to get this (happy now that I did) and wait to see what comes out. Almost 30 days to the day I noticed that the antenna on the back cover was coming loose on one of the corners. This is after I was already rooted and flashed a couple different roms! So, I'm thinking the chances of getting a replacement back cover are slim to none and I'm going to end up with a phone that can't be rooted or have to live with possible antenna issues. I call AT&T, they have someone call me. After a couple phone conversations and an email update I get a new back cover in the mail a week later. Amazing!!! Maybe the fact that I've been with AT&T about 12 years helped!
After 10 months of having an Aria I have decided to move to the Inspire. I'm gonna miss you all. This was the perfect community, lots of hard workers and not very fast moving, like the Inspire one where you post and 2 minutes later you have 20 new posts on top of yours. I know now for sure that teh Aria is indeed the best size for a phone. I'd like to say thank you to CallMeAria, GenePoole for making the best ROM ever, DrowningChild, Jznomoney and everyone else who worked hard for all of us to enjoy the best ROMs and apps. You're all fantastic people and I hope you stay that way.

You're lucky that I still come to this forum from time to time to see if I can help on anything. I'm loving the Inspire, the camera is great actually. Most HTC's phones come with crappy camera but the Inspire is excelent in outdoors and very good indoors, the double LED flash works like a charm. It also comes with face recognition. More important there are some fascinating ROMs for the Inspire. The best you can get is TB Fusion 1.9 that's Gingerbread with Sense 3.0 weather, lockscreen and SMS. Works blazing fast and is very very stable.

No, I got a Candanian NAM version off of ebay. My wife has had an EVO for almost a year and I just couldn't get use to a 4.3 inch display like the EVO/Inspire has. The Incredible's 4 inch screen should be just about right.
i currently have the mytouch 4g and was thinking about the HD2.
i love the mytouch for the ffc
i love the HD2 for the BIGGER SCREEN
what are your guys opinion...
HD2 with Windows is a complete failure. If it has Android put on it then it's fine, but 50% more RAM and 4G speeds in the Mytouch would make it an easy decision. If I didn't live in a 4G area then the answer would be a little bit harder but the RAM difference is still significant.

having owned both phones, Ill chime in
yes I agree, WinMo 6.5 sucks...android is where its at. buts also a plus for the HD2 that you can dual boot windows and android. the HD2 does have a bigger screen, but doesnt look as good as the mytouch. HD2 isnt capable of 4G speeds like the mytouch, and also has less RAM. the FFC isnt a big deal for me as I hardly use it, but some people use it on a daily basis to video chat. really, IMO, the only thing I miss about the HD2 was the big screen and thats about it definitely stick with the 4G...
Ok here's one more add in.
The hd2 is for 120$ used.... Good deal or just save my money ??

I loved the HD2 as my toy phone, and if something ever happens with your mytouch(lots of bad eMMC errors going around lately) you have an awesome phone to go back to

I loved the HD2 as my toy phone, and if something ever happens with your mytouch(lots of bad eMMC errors going around lately) you have an awesome phone to go back to

I would wait if I were you, you can easily get a 9+/10 condition HD2 for $150-$175. also look for the US t-mobile HD2 as it has more ROM space compared the the EUR version (1GB>512MB)

but there are 2 different types of HD2/Leo. the EUR version has 512mb ROM while the US version has 1gb ROM. they both look exactly the same, except the US version has the T-Mobile logo on the front
I have both a MT4G and a HD2. I absolutely love my HD2 I'm running motorman's ROM so it looks and feels exactly like my MyTouch 4G*. The larger screen is really wonderful and not having the really badly placed power button on the top is great!

I would use it all the time but the lack of UMA/WiFi calling forces me back to the MT4G on occasion.
Note: The HD2 also lacks 4g but that's a who cares since there's little 4g in my area.
*Follow the link and you'll see it's really very easy to install a NAND on the HD2 but download and save the stock software from T-Mo's website first so you can always go back to stock if you want to do so, it takes very little time. You can also set up a dual boot but I've found that less than reliable.
