So here is what ROM I have installed:
Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 2
Collin_ph Battery Tweak - optional install with Myn's RLS 2
NO SENSE at all - all removed - running ADW
Here's what OS and kernel and ROM I am running:

I noticed that my battery life was already great with the new HTC Kernel (2.6.32.15-ge2fb08e [email protected] #11), but wasn't quite sure how good it was until I noticed when in sleep mode my battery usage flatlined where on other kernels it would decline slowly (6-10% over 6-8 hrs) while sleeping overnight.
Here is what I observed while using 3G and the screen off overnight. From about 11:15p to just after 8a I had NO decline in battery usage - not even a spike of slight usage. The phone just literally went to sleep - and I ended up with over 27hrs battery life on a moderate usage Saturday:
EDIT: it shows that I had Wifi on when this was taken - that explains the drop right around 815a as I was downloading some updates before heading out to run errands and noticed how good my battery was and I snapped the photo.... 3G had been on though.
EDIT: well evidently my WiFi wasn't off the whole night.... so this shows that Wifi does sleep well.... will do another one with 3G.... sorry about that one!
So I decided to checkout how well 4G did overnight. Prior to this recent kernel from HTC I never had good 4G non-connected usage, where 4G would be turned on but either not have a connection and Wi-Fi or 3G was connected, or 4G sleep mode, like the above with 4G being on but phone in screen-off (sleep) mode.
Here is what I found out. I put a new battery in at 6p and turned 4G on. I had a 4G connection for awhile, but then it stayed on 3G (non-WiFi) most of the rest of the night - but I never turned 4G off. I went to bed and turned the screen off at around 11:45p and my phone started to wakeup around 5ish as my alarm and Exchange email kicked in on my Monday morning schedule. Again, a complete flatline of battery usage while phone (and screen) were in sleep mode. Never before had I had this. 4G was always a drain for me regardless of if it was connected or not. I still have over 26% battery left (9:40a) and it's been in basic usage (push email and a few connect-bot connections and a few stages of Angry Birds) since 7a. That's over 15hrs of 4G being on but not connected - maybe only connected about 15% of that time.
Thought I would post this - YMMV....
nice.
isn't the first graph w/ wifi on (as oppose to 3g)?

yeah - sorry - I forgot I had turned wifi on when I had taken the photo around 815a-ish in order to download some updates before heading off for the day...
will adjust the statement.
the wifis were on all night.
the red under the line indicates wifi was on (yellow indicates apn is on). the text "radio: WiFi" at 2:21am (where the center line is) is a good clue too.

Wow! Thanks! Good to know - thought I had turned it off..... so I guess this shows the WiFi radio uses nothing when in screen off/sleep mode.... =)
Will do another one with 3G specifically.....
Here is another update with still having 4G turned on from last night but 3G connected (don't have a great 4G signal in my house)
from 6p yesterday afternoon to 2p this afternoon - 8% battery life left

Hello and thanks for reading ,
I am experiencing a very bad tablet battery life since November 2013.In these past month's i have visited forums, flash factory OS,turned off the radio(and wifi), installed many battery saving apps (didn't work), boot safe mode(drain still there), rubbed snake oil(really dangerous) and the battery still drains faster than a monsoon gutter.
Below is a screen shot of the tablet after I left it to idle for one night .

Any suggestions in solving of the problem are much appreciated and no ,i do not like 4.4.2 cause it breaks my FLAC playback (and still [email protected]% perhour)(currently running 4.3)
Thanks and regards shinra_co
I've got exactly the same problem; battery drains very quick even with airplane mode on. Tablet Idle is the culprit according to the power settings. I wonder what this means and how to solve this issue. can hardly use the tablet, i always need to recharge it.

Same here, and this just started a couple of days ago. Usually, with my usage pattern, I only needed to recharge once a week. Just over night this changed to nightly... Quite annoying.

Registering only to add my "me too" to this problem. The battery is depleted in a few hours (6 to 10) when the tablet is turned off, no sleeping, turned off, even after using the recovery menu option in order to force the power down. It is always lightly hot to the touch when it is automatically discharging, again when turned off.
This is my first Asus device and I am trying to request a refund, I don't want a new device, or a repaired one. I want my money back. I am not sure this will happen because it was bought on December, but this is not tolerable
5 Months in and various updates later (KK 4.4.4 KTU84P right now).
The battery still drain away @ 5.0 per hour minimum.
As per original post, I have still not been able to find the source of the drain.
wakelock detector, better battery stats and battery doctor have been of little help this past months.
Assuming it is not software related, what are the chances it is the hardware ie the battery itself being the culprit.
if so i think i'll wait for the rumored 8" nexus tablet.

Shows Wi-Fi scans are killing my battery and I have my Wi-Fi turned off. I bought this phone off line (swappa) and I thought everything was great. Looked good, worked great. Then I'm getting USB errors and no PC can see the phone. And MASSIVE battery drain. I unplugged the phone this morning. Put it in airplane mode left it on the desk. Came home and the phone was below 20% just sitting here. (10 hours) the phone is not rooted and I can't root because no USB access. Any suggestions? I've reset phone twice. Disabled all software possible. The phone has dropped 1% typing this message!?!?

Yes. I'm really confused. I think I may have unfortunately bought a dud. It's unfortunate really. If I could get the USB to work I could root and go from there but it's pretty much a paper weight right now. Can't use a phone that's dead in a few hours of not even using it. Hehe.
Thanks for your reply! I really do appreciate all suggestions.

You do have wifi on and I'm assuming data is enabled behind that. 30% drop in 7-9 hours(however long you slept) isn't that bad considering this is still stock experience?

Phone radio is exactly what it, and the icon in front of it that is identical to the signal bars icon, say: The phone's signal receiver. The one that connects you to the network.
You turn data off by switching off the Mobile Data (and WiFi if you want to turn off WiFi) toggles in the notification bar....
Is this your very first smartphone, by any chance?
there is nothing in setting showing 2G, the only thing i found to turn off data was in Settings - Data Usage -Mobile Data and i checked it off.

it has not 2g but gsm dude..i just explained you that gsm=2g
Go to settings, more networks, mobile networks, then network mode, choose gsm.. Make sure you turn it back on or your data speeds will be slow as hell.. Personally I would just charge it overnight and not bother.

I've noticed some WiFi weirdness since I got my (vzw) 10. While watching a video in chrome, sometimes (usually right after a reboot) it'll play perfectly fine. Other occasions it'll have issues streaming, and when it pauses to buffer, it takes way longer than it should. Most of the time it completely freezes up chrome. Disconnecting from WiFi so it uses the data connection and it immediately resumes playing and has zero issues. Even occasionally while browsing the web, it'll just completely fail to load a page.
On a side note, I won't be able to confirm till tonight when I sleep and I leave it on disconnected from WiFi, but it seems to drain the battery. Obviously WiFi drains battery, but I'm talking crazy drain, 10-12% over 7 hrs.
Can anyone corroborate this happening to them? I'm thinking possibly firmware or ROM bug.
I have the wifi on during sleep only when plugged in and wifi stayed on all night, its a solid bar. I've barely used my phone since waking up and its already dropped 9%. I am seeing a drain issue and I can't find it.

So it seems like we have WiFi issues then. I'm curious, do you have a vzw 10 or no? Wondering if it's a vzw only issue.
Yeah VZW 10. I don't know if it is actually the wifi, but I had to charge 3 times yesterday. Everything drains the battery.
yeah lost 15% in a 6 hour night. wifi always on.
I'm not even sure myself but my battery drains at a rate of 1% every 10 minutes even on standby. I've disable auto-sync, and it helped slightly but it's still draining abnormally fast.
You guys with issues on drain are you on 5ghz radio or 2.4ghz.?

I've tried both, there doesn't seem to be a difference.
I'm on AT&T network. I lost 1% overnight over a 7+ hour period. I was quite impressed.

AU unlocked set, lost 10% throughout the night with WIFI on.
Anyone who has root (obviously not vzw yet) wanna do some testing and find what the drain cause is?
I still haven't been able to nail down a fix for WiFi being unusable sadly.
I have the same issue when it comes to battery drain on wifi. You guys could try and disable the following settings

As the title said, I'm gathering some information about screen on time (SOT) of Zenfone 5 1.2Ghz (from 100 to 1-5 percent)
I want to see how my battery is after years by how much time it can handle now. Hope you guys help me.
In comment section, please including your SOT plus:
- What rom are you using? (Kernel version if can)
- Most used network: Wifi or Cellular
- Network setting: Always on or Never (Manually)
- App ram usage (Running Service in Setting/Battery or Develop Options)
Thats all I want to know for now.
Thanks!
Using stock rom Kitkat newest version, cause it uses much less battery!
I mostly use more of the Wi-Fi on always on
what is mostly using my ram is the screen ( brightness) and android
I will send more information about RAM usage later, my phone is recharging
Using 1.6ghz variant.
rom- resurrection remix nougat. but channging of roms didnt had any great impact
only wifi always on.
ram- 40-50% or below free.
sot i get varies from 2hr- 3hrs. only texting and light stuff gives around 2hr 40mins.
im using latest kitkat on my 3 years old zenfone 5 single sim variant.
this one with 100% cpu usage all time + [ full screen brightness+ bluetooth + wifi+ gps on ] from 100% to 5%;

Screen was always on in both tests. i used battery drain app to make screen always on with full brightness and wifi in second test and i get 3h45m screen time.
in first test i pushed cpu 100% and activated all gps/bluetooth/wifi etc and i get 1h53m screen time. but phone was really overheated and i scare to do it again (it was burning my hand)
actually i was shocked myself when i saw 4 h screen time when i used my phone to only read ebook all day in home with half brightness and i decided to test my phone. Results were amazing i agree, i hope it keeps that way for one more year.
i tested overnight battery usage and it dropped to 85% from 100% within 7 hours with wireless open while android sleep. i guess it might be better to close all network overnights

I wish I still kept the screenshot on Mashmallow to show you.
wireless is not the reason but the google play service. After disable a list of unneeded services, I let wireless enable all the time, gmail and other notification still can be recieved and battery drained 1% per hour (screen off). For specifically, after 6 hours over night, it will drain 6%.
screen on time is normally 3 hours but of course I have to tweak a lot to get this result. If not, battery just drains like hell.

i tried to close wifi yesterday , as you mentioned it does not effect the drain.
3 hours sot on marshmallow is great but unfortunately i cant use custom roms cuz i need Gps occasionaly and my simcard often keep loosing signal on thoose . i am considering to get a xiaomi mi or redmi phone by next year but until that i had to use asus zf5 with kitkat 4.4.2 and 3-3.5 sot is best i can wish for.
