[REQ] port of Ocean Observation UI to Samsung galaxy S - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi Guys,
http://www.samsunghub.com/2010/10/1...king-android-tablet-smt-i9100-for-kddi-japan/
above link FYI. Samsung has released a new tablet for a specific carrier KDDI in japan.
what caught my eye was that samsung opted for Ocean Observation UI instead of TouchWiz UI.
Does any one knw more about this UI? it would be nice if devs can port it to our galaxy S.
its a bit too early, but this thread can be used for port development and discuss further about this new UI.

They just use round icons in stead of squared ones, and there might be no calling option available since it is a tablet. Doesn't seem to much of a difference compared to TouchWiz.

wrong section moved

now back on topic.... "ewwww"
that was the first impression i got as soon as i shaw the pictures

A little bit of a weird UI 0_0.
Well before we get ahead of ourselves, the first step is probably to get either a system dump of the device, or a firmware (from which system can be extracted anyway). Then we can try and run/modify the launcher apk.
But... probably won't happen for a while, unless the UI has some interesting features.

sorry for posting it in development section...
LOL guys..it doesnt look so "eeewwww"
what was interesting is that why samsung would leave their first child TouchWiz!!!!
the source webpage looks sooo crap..i couldnt find more information about this..thought i should bring to XDA DEVS notice.

Wanting to buy a Vibrant. Have questions

Ok so I would like to get a vibrant soon but there are a few things that bother me that I would like to get resolved.
#1 how are the custom ROMS? Can i use Galaxy S and Captivate ROMS or is it specific to the vibrant only?
#2 I really dont like the UI they put on there. I like the stock android OR sense UI. I know sense will probably never make it to the vibrant but how about the stock android? Are there any ROMS right now that offer that? I know how to theme but that would be a lot of changing.
#3 development... I feel like since the Galaxy S will be across the world and many carriers development would be fairly good right? How is it now? What do you think it will be like in the future?
Hey NC!
#1 how are the custom ROMS? Can i use Galaxy S and Captivate ROMS or is it specific to the vibrant only?
There are no ROMs right now. CM6 has two developers working on porting to the Galaxy though.
#2 I really dont like the UI they put on there. I like the stock android OR sense UI. I know sense will probably never make it to the vibrant but how about the stock android? Are there any ROMS right now that offer that? I know how to theme but that would be a lot of changing.
Use ADW or LauncherPro (amazing on this phone)
#3 development... I feel like since the Galaxy S will be across the world and many carriers development would be fairly good right? How is it now? What do you think it will be like in the future?
It will eventually be very good. With the volume sold and ability of this phone, it will eventually have great development. Right now, a lot of developers, especially on here are used to HTC and getting used to Samsung and the differences.
You have to remember, This phone Just came out and the other 2 still haven't.
Plus, this is not an HTC phone.
That being said, development is going strong.
Expect the Flood gates to open soon.
FYI: I use both ADW launcher and Launcher Pro (bothe give me the the stock android experience you seek.
i think the custom roms will start flowing.
about touchwiz, I thought that would be the first thing i removed, but i have actually liked some things about it, but like has already been mentioned, use ADW or whatever launcher you prefer.
I think development witll really start to take off in time.
Thanks for the quick replies. Great answers
I use:
Touch Calendar
ADW launcher
aContacts
stock News & Weather
Klaxon
cubed.
That pretty much gets me around the Yucky TouchFlow. I also rooted and installed Root Explorer to get rid of the bloatware easily.
I was really hesitant, and except for having to tap ever so accurately when correcting text because there's no dpad (I've put a request in to a dev that I like for a soft dpad), I'm very happy.
If you get too much lag because of the slow storage memory, there's a hack for that. I haven't use it yet.
Just took a chance and bought it. Loving the phone but just as I expected, touchwiz is quite annoying. Cant wait to see a 2.2 cyannogen rom

[Q] Just bought a new Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000

Ok i've recently bought a new samsung galaxy tab GT-P1000 in england, its unlocked to all networks, running froyo xwjj3, i absolutely love it, it meets all my needs perfectly,
now i'm fairly new to the android world, ive been a devout iphone owner for years but figured it was time for a change, i had a good understanding of the "jailbreaking" world of the iphone but i'll be honest and say the android world of ROMs totally throws me off, like for instance is there a ROM which will make tab any better or faster? themes that maybe make use of its larger screen?
basically what i'm asking for is any type of help that u think would be useful to a rookie, apps and games, anything that can make full use of my lovely new machine?
also on a side note, i have an Orange Livebox router in my house and my samsung connects with it fine only after i press the wifi button on the box and then suddenly drops the signal at any specific time, what could be the cause of this?
thanks so much for any help
Congatulations and welcome to the family
A lot of us share your love to the Tab and motivated to make it even better.
If Tab meets your current needs you might not need any modifications. The easy way is just following Samsung notifications about available updates and simply enjoy your Tab.
If you want to be on the edge of XDA development and ready to take risk of testing latest releases of firmware you need to go through reading of the Development forum.
It might be a lot of reading but it would save your from frustration when something goes wrong.
Luckly, development is in very good state right now and your can choose fast firmware that is tested enough for everyday use.
to update the tab you will need kies (which sucks)

Just read a few threads in the development section here , I was a complete novice not long ago , I now have a custom kernal + rom and my device is rooted. Some of the roms are better but jj7 is just fine - you can update officially from jj3 using kies as its genuine samsung software
For nice themes grab adw launcher from the market and then add some themes for it... google is your friend

thats the thing tho, i have been reading up and looking, from what i can gather 90% of the customs roms on the samung galaxy tab are for non UK users who want to make phone calls from there device, we can already do that in the UK so what types of ROMs are beneficial to us?
also ive heard launcher pro is better for the galaxy tab rather adw launcher, is that true?
thanks for the help by the way

Nexus S Development 4G/GSM

Hello everyone. Allow me to introduce myself first off. I'm a long time xda member, an acs member (Android Creative Syndicate), a themer, and a developer. I originally started on the Samsung Moment, learned themes, and shortly after moved up to the Samsung Epic. I created quite a few themes for the Epic, and then began working with ACS devs testing and learning what they were doing for the ACS roms.
I've got some plans for my Nexus and hopefully everyone can benefit from it. My first missing piece upon buying the nexus was the widgets in the status bar ie bt, gps, wifi, etc. soon as I got my phone that was a high priority. I ported a theme immediately from the Epic so I could have my eye candy back while working on bigger and better projects. The theme is in Nexus Themes and Apps called H.R. Giger and can be found here: Thread. My second project, the Samsung Touchwiz Quick Panel port, which is also the same thing as the power control widgets on the Cyanogen Mod roms, is now mostly complete and can be found here: Thread. Also there is a subsequent thread that I turned into a guide on how I did the mod as well as actively answer questions to anyone looking to do the same for their roms located here: Thread. I say the mod is *mostly done because I would like to replace the auto rotation widget with the Wimax (4g) for us Sprint Users. The problem is Sprint has made the Wimax modular and placed it into an apk where it links itself into the settings menu, as well as the framework. The problem with this is I can't access the wimaxmanager inside the apk from the SystemUi.apk because of what seems to be a security issue. Most likely this was done intentionally by Sprint to protect their proprietary software, but I'm not 100% sure. I like to believe that we can get around it and get this working but it's def on the back burner now.
My current port is the TSM Lockscreen Parts. This mod allows you to go into settings, under the option for About Phone, there will be a new choice called Lockscreen Parts. From there you can choose between now 8 different Lockscreens. You can also turn the music controls on the different lock screens. I have the Mod 100% working with 3 of the lockscreens ported. I will have one more this afternoon and 4 more however long it takes.
I have released the Quick Panel mod to the public already since it's such a useful mod, but all of these things will be going into my rom which will include the quick panel, lockscreen chooser, and reboot options. The rom will be based on stock NS4G 2.3.4 GRJ22 AOSP build. There is absolutely, in my eyes, nothing wrong with the stock rom running on our Nexus. I feel adding as little code as possible to it to enable these features will send it over the top.
The reason for this thread is two fold. I would like to announce myself to the Nexus community for those coming from something other than the Epic and might not be familiar with my work, and to let any other developers out there what's on my plate if they care to take part in it or were planning on doing the same things. I hate to see someone start on the lockscreen today as much work as it is, and I'm more than half way through. Also I wanted to reach out to the GSM devs, as all this work should transfer over to your phones very easily.
Future projects are already on the backburner including a new theme complete as Giger that takes over every aspec of the phone but this time instead of replace the GB theme, I plan to accent it. Porting over a slew of nice themes is in the works as well. Also I plan on working on getting most of the Transparent and Blacked out apps the Epic has available over to us as well. Anyone else, I know Mikeinid was planning on a transparent gtalk as well so feel free to post here upcoming plans and we can build mods together as one instead of each other doing the same thing.
I hope there are more people out there that will join me in working on the Nexus because the more options the better!. I get asked plenty of times why am I working on porting smali code for the Nexus when we have full source. I'm a reverse engineer by heart. I work backwards a hell of a lot better than forwards. After this rom is complete and I'm set up building NS4G code from source, (I'm mostly done getting set up for that as well) I plan on playing with java code and seeing what apps/mods I can build right into source so in the future I hope my releases will be in source code and anyone can add the code and build it right into their roms.

Thanks for reminding me about the inverted gtalk I know how to do it now thanks to jatxwne, a themer from the OG droid.
Absolutely awesome post. I just got the nexus s 4G (coming from an EVO) and have been just getting a feel for these forums. I'm really happy to see a Sprint dev for the nexus s doing really exciting things. Thanks and I'll be really watching your stuff!!

I've put in a majority of the last 48 hours on on the epic lockscreen and still don't boot. This one requires modding the framework.jar. Each time I logcat the boot I'm finding more methods not present in the aosp so I'm definitely incorporating some new features. Music controls already work but the epic lock is going to display the tw controls I'm guessing. Regardless the end if near hopefully tomorrow then I have the ***** the puzzle lock then its more framework additions for the muiu lock. A couple weeks away I'm betting
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
dreams you are amazing. you already have my support (for what its worth..) and here is to hoping that you port puzzle lock to cm7 afterwards >.> or at the very least get nemith to include it
Cool, glad to see this stuff being ported. I am coming from the EVO and was used to so many devs working on themes, Roms and what not and the NS4G feels so bare. It's always nice to get new minds working on our device. You seem to know what you are doing and I can't wait to see your finished products. Thanks for the introduction.
I'm calling it quits for the night. Touchwiz files in this one require heavy modding of the smali. I have to add in tons of features not in. aosp and make it work together. I know most of what needed but this will take some time. Should be easier for the rest of the locks when I get our policy up to par with the sgs one.

One ROM One Source with Many tweaks

Hi everyone please before anyone throw curses at me, it is only a request to make things more organize at least for noobs like me
i have entered the world of andorid not so much as a month ago with galaxy S2 i was amazed with the possibilities of this software and how much customization can go with it but all this come with cost which is mess, lost and confusion
i mean there is like 10 or more roms for S2 alone as we can see and it just been a month only what will happen after plus we are always asking which is the best rom what is the best theme etc
that is why i suggest the following:
one custom rom which belong to XDA to name as please or XDA rom since XDA the biggest android forum and all developers can work on it to tweak it as they please and submit to the ppl in charge of it and update frequently (example villin rom with its tweaks app which need some work in organizing, i thank him for his work)
in this rom there will be apps like that but will be all in the offical app for tweaks( like cydia in the iphone OS) inside it everything from themes to addons
i know i might not clear but what am saying lets try to have One rom and in it all the tweaks possible since in the end of what am seeing all ROMs have minor difference(someone can shot me down if am wrong and i say sorry)
waiting for your thoughs follow XDA members
A few quick thoughts here. You can never please everyone because people want different things out of a rom and the result can be that as things go forward you end up pleasing no one by trying to be all things to all people. Also right now the roms are fairly similar because the phone is so new but that will change going down the road as things settle in and they will become more divergent. While it seems chaotic now this is not a bad thing in that you likely will find a chef who does work that you will prefer. Once CM comes to fruition you will see in some respects what you are talking about as many people will theme directly for it and so also with mods.
There are so many more devices, roms and people. Some roms make the whole operating system look completely different. (miui)
You want everything easily in one place. I actually don't. If you want one rom, pick one and stay with it. Simple right?
I like to compare different roms, certain ones have better features but a long with that it brings worse battery life. So I like weighing the differences.

Stick to the stock ROM for now, it's pretty balanced, till a few more months and Dev's get the hang of this new Phone.
Problem with the original only one rom . Who do you choose for the one rom do you ban the other devs .Ban Chainfire ban others like him who have developed individual bits that come together to make a whole .
No Android is independent custom at will rather than the dictate of one person (Hi Steve ).
Noobs need to accept that its a learning curve they have to learn how to read first follow instructions second browse the posts third and search fourth .
Simply put one rom defeats the whole point of XDA and Open Source .

well thanks guys about the reply but i guess the idea far from coming to android or maybe because i am new, i cannot see the picture you guys are seeing since i came from iphone which used to have one version(jailbreak firmware) with cydia(the home of all great thing for iphone) and thought it is possible in android but it seems not so i just have to do what most have said stick to one rom and be updated with it
in the end i just wanted to share my thoughts and it has been nice reading your thoughts on the matter

But thats the whole difference ONE = IPhone
What you want = Android .
What if that one rom is far behind rather than advanced = no choice .
If i had to go down the IPhone one rom walled garden do as you are told path i would not even contemplate a Smartphone .I want choice simple as that .
One rom might as well stick with the basic Google rom .
jje
Ok, in general these are the roms out here or yet to come:
- Android with Touchwhizz
- Stock android
- MIUI
- Cyanogenmod
- Stock android with Cyanogenmod tweaks etc
- Possibly a Sense rom.
These are 6 different android variants already. How can you put them in one rom? That is not possible. I like the stock android, you like touchwhizz etc.
The main advantage is that you can switch roms easily and flash the rom that suits you.
I agree that in the beginning you can't see the whole picture, but you will in time. Like JJEgan says it's a learning curve, although a lot of new people don't seem to realize that.

Hybrid ROM for our Note

There was a thread posted over in the Q&A section that I think was rather overlooked, and really deserves more attention. Since the Note is supposed to be the best of both worlds (tablet and phone) then it stands to reason that a hybrid ROM for the Note would make the most sense!
Even now that we have ICS on the Note, it's still (disappointingly) just a really big phone with an S-Pen. What would really push it over the edge, as far as the cool factor is concerned, is for someone with the skills and know-how to figure out a way to make a decent hybrid ROM for the Note.
We could merge UI elements of both the phone and tablet interfaces, and also have it such that some apps run in a phone interface, while others in a tablet mode etc. Also, having the tablet navigation buttons on the bottom would be nice for using the S-Pen (because it doesn't work on the capacitive buttons).
What are your thoughts everyone?

There is somthing called AOSP/AOKP. You can go into tablet mode just by changing DPI. Navigation buttons are there

Thanks. I know this already... I'm not talking about AOS/KP.
I know I have mentioned this a number of times, and it still hasn't yet caught on. Why? Idk...
But, to clarify, I am not necessarily talking about an AOSP/AOKP build here (I actually kinda like some of the TouchWiz flare).
Hell, even if someone were to take some cues from the 7.7 and tweaked the Note's framework to include things like the min-app tray and little things like that, that would be awesome!

imilka already said he's working with PA team to port it over, so we just need some patience
About including some of the 7.7 features to Note I don't think there will ever be a developer that is willing to invest the huge amount of time and resources in incorporating AOSP/AOKP with 7.7 stock features and I have no idea if that's even possible :/

I guess this all boils down to the same question I'm sure a lot of us have been asking for a while: How long will it be before we have a fully functioning AOSP/AOKP build, where everything (and I mean everything!) works? (MHL, OTG, the button on the S-Pen, full hardware video acceleration, etc etc etc...)
What's 7.7 ?
Anyway, I would love a ROM that can "run" TW framework, so that everything works as on the official ROM, and that allows tablet mode. After trying tablet mode, I don't want to go back to smartphone interface, at the same time I would like sock FM Radio, stock camera, stock calendar, etc. I've seen the Galaxy Tab 7" 2 recently, it was ICS and I don't know what TW version it was but I'd love that on my note.
I like the idea.
Haven't tried tablet in a while....but isn't the font awfully hard to read? I (I'm old!)...And...
I use portrait most of the time....doesn't tablet force a reach to the top. of the device for most app functions?
I'd love to use tablet mode now but those made functionality tough for me.
Thanks
