How to change Keyboard - using touch imput doens't work! - Touch HD General

So i wanted to try a completely naked rom (geranium from johnpatcher), and the overall performance is very good. BUT, the keyboard is sooo small and ugly.
When I go to Settings>Imput you can choose what keyboard you want to use. I installed FingerKeyboard 2, but when i choose it there is no apply/done/ok button. In the right corner it says OK, but in fact its just a close button.
The chef of that rom has left XDA so i cant ask him. Is there a way to change keyboard otherwise, E.G. with registry?
EDIT: forgot to mention: I am using WinMo 6.5(.0)
Link to ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=528705
Thanks in advance,
Kapie
EDIT: i already found a way. Problem solved

Larger Touch Keyboard

ok. I know I saw someone mention on this forum that there is a cab you can install for a larger on-screen keyboard. I've been searching the forums, but can not find this cab. I hate typing with my stylus, and with tf2d installed I rarely flip open my phone anymore (landscape is still not fully supported).
anyone know where I can get a hold of the large on-screen keyboard? An attachment or a forum link would be ideal.
thanks again!!! =)
I'd definately be interested in this too...
try this thread -

=(
thanks so much for the help! I reviewed all of these keyboard and decided that I like the HTC touch keyboard the best..... Only problem is. I install the cab, and it does NOTHING! It still has the same old crappy on-screen keyboard! (stylus required)
I am using ttran's OTP 7 (tf2d manila)
I am uploading the cab now, so anyone else who has time.... test this and let me know if I am the only one with this problem... and if you know a solution please post.
Thanks again!
- Dave
You have to touch & hold the little arrow by the keyboard to select the new one. You'll have to do this every time you reset your phone, but the attached cab will fix that. Just install it & you'll see it in your programs list. This will allow you to set the default keyboard so it doesn't reset each time you power up your phone.

TouchPal wont show after a while

Hi folks
I love this forum and am so glad its here, it seems to be the only place where ppl can get support for the HD right now.
I am using the TouchPal keyboard 3.5. It installed fine and I started using it and configuring it grand etc. But after a while it stops responding.
If I click on the small keyoard icon at the bottom of my screen, no keyboard pops up whatsoever. If I go to settings and change the default keyboard from TouchPal to say - Full Querty and press OK, the change does not take place (If I go back into settings, the keyboard is reset to TouchPal).
So I am left wthout a keyboard and I have to do a full restart of the phone. If I uninstall TouchPal all is well and the keyboard system reverts back to working normally.
Has anyone else expereinced similar ?
Many thanks for any help
gt
iv got version 3.5 aswel, iv had no problems with it
the only problem i have is that, in landscape mode the key sizes dont increase, it appears small, but never the less a great keyboard
Hi xdaman85
Try running Remote Desktop and see if the keyboard behaves there, thats where it dies on me.

try this
uninstall, soft reset, install, soft reset, then go to settings, inputs, choose touchpal as default keyboard, then press ok, then soft reset
i know thats long but it should do the trick, seems to me as if that it wasnt installed correctly and theres some errors, so try what i said and let me know if it works
OK guys, it seems I am not alone in having prolems with TouchPal on the HD. See this thread on CoolTek's forum.
http://www.cootek.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=742&PN=1
I have tried everything, I have uninstalled the kb, reinstalled it. Last night I completely reinstalled the entire phone (hard reset, wipe, reistall) but TouchPal still stops working after a while.

just the thread, i guess your right, your not alone...but..its still wierd as iv been using touchpal since last wednesday and its still working fine for me
could it be that touchpal is conflicting with another keyboard on the device?
Have you gone to settings/inputs and selected touchpal as the keyboard?
I cant think of any other ideas because its working perfectly for me
Thanks xdaman
Just done a new re-install and it seems ok now. TBH I am now using the version from Cooltek so I may have had myself to blame.
On another note, I am having probs setting custom commands, I have the followig questions, can anyone offer any wisdom ?
You can setup custom commands such as Ctrl+z etc. They can be stored in place holders accessed by tab+downslide on the Control Tab button (the one with the 4 arrows). The instructions for creating custom command scan be found in the manual (section 4.2) here
Here are my questions
1. How do you create a combination command? e.g. They have a built in command called "Select All && Copy". This is 2 commands. How do you create this ?
2. After I mess up all my command buttons. How do I reset them to their defaults ?
3. When I create a command, Is Flag5 the ASCII key code? The manual is not specific on this. Also, if Flag5 is the ASCII code, why do I need to then enter the Alphabet index of the letter ?
4. I only seem to be able to edit the top Custom command button. If I try and assign values to the lower buttons, the edit appears in the top button. Is this a bug ?
cant install/wont install
downloaded the cab file..after it ran..it looks like explorer window pops up and tried to o something..anyway it says the page cant be found..tried loading in both card and local and get the same response..it does tell me the it was unsuccessful in loading
i gues its the lastest becuase i downloaded from the site

Looking for that old keyboard

Hi everyone, I just got my brand new Jade, and I'm happy and satisfied with it: faster and more stable than my old Elf, I've got nothing more to ask.
Well, maybe one thing.. I miss my old keyboard.. the one I attached to this thread.
In fact, having the question and exclamation mark, and the the at, without switching pages, spared me some time.. it was fast and light.
Is there any way I can have it onto my Jade?
Cheers everyone

the times they're a changin'
Press keyboard icon (at Bottom Bar) - select "Other Input Methods" - Keyboard.
Not that easy, I would have figured that out..
the keyboard found in "Other Input Methods" looks alike the one I've seen on the Touch HD, it's bigger, it has an "iphone layout" (letters become bigger when selected and you can move your selection around the keyboard) and special characters (as well as question and exclamation marks) come in pages .. too bad I do not have a screen for that!
Could it be that the keyboard I'm looking for can be 'imported' from my Elf?
Edit: I've found in another thread the keyboard I meant that comes with the 3G, and that I'd like to change; here it is
Well, on mine I have both the keyboad layouts that you posted.

Click the small up arrow next to the keyboard icon at the bottom of the screen.
Select 'Keyboard' at the bottom of the Settings Panel (below Full QWERTY).
Now go Start -> Settings -> Input and select 'Large Keys'.
Thanks Jademan, but that was the one I am already using.. I am gong to post you both keyboars so we can spot the differences.
Yet while I'm writing a doubt attacks me..
Could it be that the keyboard on the Elf (the one I like most) comes with the english language, while the one I have on the Jade comes with the italian language? Well, since in the Jade's one stressed letters are displayed, and right where the buttons I'd like to have should be, it could be reasonable..
....... so I just changed language, but nothing happenes, still the stressed vowels.
Damn ...
Edit: double post

Yes, that's the problem, the MS keyboard on your Jade is Italian and uses the @ and & keys for different symbols. I think you may need to do some registry editing to get the keyboard up you want.

What keyboard software do you use?

Hi, is there a keyboard with 5 rows (numbers visible) that you can still accuratly press keys with your fingers? Because my passwords contain both numbers and letters and i have to enter them a lot :-( Thanks.

I recommend Fingerkeyboard. It is free, highly customizable and does a great job. See my signature for the link. You can create your own layout if you want. I think other users have already made a layout with 5 rows, but if not, you can make your own. It is pretty easy. You can also see my signature for a basic tutorial on editing layouts. You decide what keys you wnat, where you want them, and what characters you want each key to type. If you have questions, you can post them in the Fingerkeyboard 2.1 thread here.
Another good keyboard if you prefer sliding instead of typing is SlideIT by Dasur. It costs $15 and does a great job. You can type (i.e. slide) really fast with it. It also supports many languages. You can view their homepage here.
Thank you!

I ready that fingerkeyboard had problems with the HD2, can you confirm that it works well, and what version are u using?
Today i tried TouchPal. it is the BEST keyboard for the HD2 (at least for me).
It is so east to type accurately now.
i agree with Touch Pal i can write extremly fast plus a lower sensitive cab installation is just perfect - at least for me.

one of the reasons that FK had problems with the HD2 is the speed of the capacitive screen. Some people correct that with the lesss sensitive Cab on this site. With FK go to options and delay the two hold times. I've set the left one to 400 instead of 250 and the right one to 250. Now FB works well on the HD2.
Chriss: can you confirm this and also tell us what the left and right one are for???
I installed TouchPal and thought it was pretty naff compared to the standard HTC keyboard, to be honest. I can type faster and mode accurately using the standard keyboard. In fact, this post was written using it!

Sorry guys. I got mixed up. No, I have not tested it on the Leo (I'm still looking into getting one ). I have only read the same reports that you have all mentioned here.
And @kuzibri: what do you mean with "what the left and right one are for"?

in the options tab there are two response time possibilities, eg left and right one.
I've tried a few of the others now, but still easily prefer the HTC supplied keyboard. I just wish it had the same gesture support as the WM default keyboard.
just another suggestion for a good keyboard for HD2: Cliquick. This also rotates the screen to landscape when pressing the .,123 key in whichever program you're in. You can find it here: http://cliquick.com/
edit: you can also set it to be your default SIP in the option settings.
Anyone happen to try SlideIt (http://www.dasur.co.il/Product/SlideIT/SlideIT.php) on the HD2? If not, anyone feel like trying the demo & letting me know how it works?

yes, I tried it. Its awesome in terms of speed and ease of use, but cannot switch to landscape mode. When you switch to landscape, e.g. in Opera, the screen gets messed up with this keyboard and a soft reset is needed. If I only was to use portrait mode, this would be the keyboard of choice.
Now that has become Cliquick. This even switches Word Mobile to landscape when you press the ",.123" key without using a third party sensor app like Gyrator or ChangeScreen. It comes with a 60 day trial and, if you do not want to buy it therafter, you can still use it for a max of 100 chars a day.
Let me throw ShapeWriter into the mix also.
Takes some getting used to but unce you've got it, it's much faster than a regular keypad (imo)

It's a pitty that this is only in English si I canot use it. BTW, it has great resemblance with Dasur's SlideIT. That one is blazing fast and easy to use (and supports several languages), but its main flaw is that it does not support landcsape. In this orientation it messes up the screen and a soft reset is needed. Otherwise this would be my nr 1 keyboard. Now that is Cliquick.

Sounds like the exact problem I have on my Advantage (the rotation issue). I've been the only one to report it, so I'm forwarding your note here as well.
I'll have to try Cliquick. Is this the one where you have to hit the same key several times to get different letters (like hit ab to get "a" and hit it again to get "b" ? Guess I'll find out.
Glad to hear the SlideIT works well except for the rotation issue, so if they can fix it, I'll be very happy.
I have noticed the latest version of Fingerkeyboard refusing to open when my HD2 (Leo) has come out of standby - can't recall what was running just prior so haven't raised it with the creator yet. I couldn't open another keyboard so had to take the battery out on the two occassions it happened.
A keyboard I have been using of late, as it worked well on my Touch HD is Zoomboard
I have tried both slideit and shapewriter and on the HD2 I much prefer slide it, its mainly due to how it handles the irratic behaviour of the capacitive screen, I mean HTC need to fix up its response, in shapewriter the line drawn with your finger tends to be scribbled everywhere missing letters, to much lesser extent on slidit, the keys are much easier to hit in slideit imo. the finger sliding keyboards are the way to go either way, I can type so much faster with slidit and takes only little parctice to get a real knack of it ... slideIT is fantastic

Alternative Keyboards?

Are there GOOD alternative keyboards for the HD2 without the arrows to the right of the keyboard, I really hate them?
use SWYPE. I love that . . .
I have tried Various Keyboards and i keep going back to Swype. Once you use it for a bit i think you will agree it's probably the best Keyboard out right now.
I don't really like Swype, I much prefer to actually press and not drag. Thanks though but anymore suggestions?
Take a look at FingerKeyboard2, it's really a good one.
i've used fingerbeyboard2 for a while, the options and customisation of it is great, plus if you change fonts on your HD2 this keyboard font changes too..
Really cool highly recommended,
yeah swype is still amazing...
badly, it doesnt save any pw's for me....
only help was performing a hard reset....

Thanks guys I'll check it out.
anyone know where i can get the old style keyboard that has ctrl, alt, tab and caps buttons?
i kinda liked using the keyboard shortcuts
i cannot get fingerkeyboard to install on my stock 1.66 hd2. receive error message after cab install to main memory "unzuccessful". any ideas?
fingerKeyboard isnt so good on HD2. It has some known bugs, also it is VERY slow on HD2.
If You are used to fast writing then You will have a lot of problems with it .
Thats why im actually on stock keyboard, it is not so bad in fact

True, but the original keyboard does not support enough languages. So, if you need some specific layout, you don't have many choices and FingerKeyboard does the job.

yep, right, but as i said, fingerKeybord is buggy on HD2, sad but true.
im using it only when i have to use CTRL + C, V, X, and so on
normally im using stock keyboard.
Thanks you answered my main question : why the hell did they remove ctrl, alt and other useful keys like Esc ?
I'll give a try to Fingerkeyboard

Just installed fingerkeyboard 2.1 and works like a charm much less typos than original keyboard I must say, but it seems there's no option for full screen keyboard like Spb Keyboard or does it? Anyhow each one (HTC/Finger/Spb) has it's own benefit for different applications.
I like Swype and SlideIT (most dont like it at first but with practice, its by far faster as its becoming stock software for many phones like Omnia now etc).
Anyway if your a pressing vs sliding person, i prefer Touchpal. Works like a charm, many nice skins for it, very easy to type with, accurate blah blah. Ive tried many pressing keyboards and found this the best, v4.0 is for the HD2, not 3.5
