Yo,
Like many of you, I've noticed that the default android home program is faster than Sense. I miss having my clock and calendar widgets though.
Any way to get them onto default home without going back to sense?
Thanks
No. Search for alternatives.
I'd say thankyou, as I guess technically you answered my question, but there's no need to be blunt or rude about it. I searched this forum and others before I asked my question and asked it in a fairly polite way.
Basically, if you're going to take the time to write a reply, be civil or keep it to yourself.
I think just using another ROM that not using Sense... many of them you can find it here, in development forum.
Ah okay, so do some of the other roms (like Cyanogen etc) have HTC widgets included or did I just completely misunderstand what you said?
Cheers,
Jenan
Hi,
you can use HTC-widgets only with sense. As for the clock and calendar, take a look at beautiful widgets, I like it more than the one that comes with sense. For a calendar-widget, that looks quite as the one from HTC I bought launcher pro plus, the included calendar-widget looks nearly the same way.
Cheers man, I'll check those out. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it

That's fair enough. I just did a quick google to test it, and found that I'd have to dig through a few forums to find an answer. I think what it is is that people ask halfway through other, unrelated, threads, instead of opening a new one.

Just in case anybody's wondering or searching for this in the future, i've found the best method - for my purposes - of getting the benefits of the android homescreen and sense in one.
An older version of Fancy Widget I found on rapidshare is the only accurate replacement for the HTC flip clock, I believe it's version 1.2.5
Launcher Pro Plus paid edition has great Sense-like widgets that are actually faster and more responsive than the vanilla sense widgets. It's also hugely customisable and eye-bleedingly fast compared to Sense.
Hope that helps anyone who had the same problems as me
Sorry to say that there is a way better clock widget out there.. Take a look at "world forecast&clock"
It has weather animations as well..
This one is no doubt the one that comes closest to original HTC Sense clock

Do you think there will ever be a theme or a ROM with sence UI like the one that is on the hd2, While the N1 is an impressive piece of hardware, im not to crazy about the UI and would love to have sence 2.5 running.
* Mod EDIT *
look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636048
Enjoy.
As i said the sence that is on the hd2, not the android sence and im well aware that we have the desire rom.
you don't realize this is ANDROID on the N1, the HD2 had WINDOWS MOBILE 6.5 ?
the hd2 sense/touchflo 3d system was built for windows, and therefore not on android.
my thoughts exactly and winmo is a dead platform a port of that rom to the nexus one,if possible, would be a large step backwards.
Im sure someone could make a theme or build a rom that has the hd2 sense, all i was asking was do you think someone will.

no..no one ever will lol..htc made a sense ui for android that allows for user customization. The sense HTC made for windows mobile is a UI to cover up the plain UI windows mobile has.
All the guy did was ask for a yes or no answer and he gets a smart ass remark from about 5 people. This is what i hate about xda, someone is always ready to bash on someone for anything.
Sense UI for WinMo is WM version, current Sense for Android is far perfect also.

The only reason I thought it was a joke was because at first I thought he was referring to getting plain Sense on Android, not the Sense available on the HD2. Even though, the reason people usually flame here is because most people know what is to be known, and most know that you cannot (well you can, I think, well its possible, I think lol) port Windows Mobile over to Android.. therefore making most people THINK this is a rather stupid question.
Also, the closest to a theme would be the Desire ROM I would think.. guess you could tweak it a little tad more.

Yes you are right i should search google. I searched all the forums and did not find anything, so i thought well if its not here on XDA then its most likely not on google.

Two moderators have had to come to this thread and clean it up. As it would appear that my last warning was somehow not clearly understood, I'm going to try it again.
If you have nothing helpful to offer, please do not post. Anyone else who feels like posting in this thread for the sake of trolling will likely find themselves with a holiday from XDA.

Hopefully back to topic:
I do not miss the Sense UI, I can live with beautiful widgets, calendar, messenger; but I DO miss Exchange cal sync with native calendar application a lot!! I was really used to have all my calendars at one place (incl google cals, exchange cal) on my Hero, and THIS is the feature I miss most on my N1... Any chance to improvents (exchange cal sync?) with Android in the future?

Sure.. except -as in my case- if the company policy does not allow Google Calendar Sync to install, and if you want to merge your exchange calendar and gmail calendar into one calendar on your phone -as Sense UI on the Hero did. I don't want to use a separate program to make a separate calendar on my phone -just to see all my calendars at one place.. and except Sense UI I could not find anything offering this functionality.
but i need it bassed on something or not if u dont want it
It depends on weather its a proper Rom or if its just filepushing like your 'Cronos LightSpeed Supper Rom'
and weather you've learnt to spell...
On a more serious note, anyone can use WinZIP, we don't need someone to spam the forums doing it for us.
Please don't see this as anything against you, its just advice.

Weather? That's whether I think
"and weather you've learnt to spell..."
I laughed.
And don't ask us if you want a ROM. Just develop, ask for help, improve it before it's launched (do this sequence 3 or 4 times), then release, and be flooded with bugs.
That's how it works.
Also, if someone wants to be my tutor, I'd be very glad.
I'm thinking of starting ROM developing aswell. I don't know what to read first.
And please, don't post cyanogen sticky post link here. I've read it, but it has too much information and I don't know where to start.

Try asking Feeyo and elemag for help. They are very open to give information.
Feeyo in particularly is learning me a lot about how I can create an rom for myself from AOSP. Those 2 are not greedy nor being secretly about how they do things.
Cant say that from that other Team.
I'm sorry but I've one question in my mind and I cant answer for it by my self: why someone buy a "sense/rosie" phone if he want a plain (vanilla) rom? Why that person doesn't buy a N1??

Well, price, I guess. And availability. The N1 wasn't available in my country, unless for an extremely unreasonable price.
Also, I think the N1 is not as sexy as the hero, or the desire...
Wow - there's some 'bad-mood' users around here, ey? We all start somewhere, so give the guy a little slack.
Anyway, if you want my honest opinion, you will struggle in the Vanilla ROM world on these forums. VanillaEclair, aHero, EzHero, CyanogenMod....there are more then enough really good Vanilla ROM's. On the other hand, Cronos, Villain, ChocolateEclair, Kimera....there are also more then enough great Sense ROM's too. It's a tough area to enter into as there is a lot of competition, and I'm sure many users can agree that we have seen some really detrimental side effects of the competition.
So, back to my honest opinion - I don't think anybody wants another vanilla ROM, nor another Sense ROM, unless you have something great to bring to the party, in which case I suggest rather make a public thread with your 'great thing' so that it can be implemented into existing ROM's. At the same time, this is a developement forum, and new developements are obviously always welcome. So, if you have the patience (for bug reports and updates) and decency (to work with the other developers), by all means, bring out a new ROM. I for one will be happy to test and report.
Just my 2c.
Mr P.
what I would suggest is you make the rom that YOU want to use. not pure vanilla, not pure stock sense, but the features you want most, including the (freely distributable) apps you want to include in the rom.
then you can always post it here in case others like it too.
I'd like to see a rom that doesn't include the standard apps but instead includes preinstalled the best free alternative calendar, widgets, launcher(pro...), alternative gallery, alternative camera, music player, app organizer, and so on.
something that is out of the box really really cool and setup for instant use (the way sense phones are setup from the factory, but using non-sense apps maybe).
that would be worth seeing here. it's been done but recently most popular roms are variations of the same thing and the competition is more about stability, performance, and working hardware. if you can base yours upon an already stable, fast and fully working hero rom (with permission from the authors), then customizing it and repackaging it could be really cool.
I'm expecting my epic any day now
studying the site for the last few days and came across this :
youtube.com/watch?v=GPrcdbIuWaU
does anyone know which ROM this actuallly is?
thanks!
Hey thanks for joining XDA.
Unfortunately I don't know what ROM that is, but I'm sure someone here will come up with the answer.
And just a heads up (not to pick on but to inform) please post future question threads like these in the General forum. The Development forum is for specifically discussing development. I know there are a lot of bad examples already but the more we can prevent the quicker that will change.
Judging by the title, you're asking because it appears to be HTC Sense UI. It unfortunately is not. It's just a "theme". You can tell by the lockscreen and the system info screen he calls up. It's Froyo build DJ29 (which is one of the Froyo build leaks on this forum). You can however achieve this look even on a stock Epic. The weather clock and some of the toggle widgets (vibrate, wifi, etc) are Beautiful Widgets from the market. The dock and calendar widget are part of LauncherPro, also from the market. Both apps have themes you can download that emulate that HTC Sense UI look. The live wallpaper is Nexus Revamped (you guessed it, from the market). Have fun with your new Epic!

Again, welcome to the community.
I had an HD2 before but did not like windows at all and there was not a suitable android release for it so I sold it.
I really liked the phone but was wondering if there is a good android replacement where everything works available for it now?
Thanks for any help
I use the BOYPPC SHIFTPDA DHD V18 Rom (Desire HD) on my HD and it works perfectly on it.
if you have TMOUS LEO1024 i would check out this ROM. i have found that its pretty much bug free (none that i've found anyway) and a great ROM overall. also a great fast/stable ROM would be RAFDROID HD found here.
if you need a guide on re-installing Android i would check this thread out
I have not bought one yet but I'm looking on Craig's list and will find one soon.
Are the ones you guys mentioned Gingerbread?
Thanks for your help
I've tried almost all available NAND builds for HD2 and I can say that I found only one stable and fast build which is NexusHD2-Gingerbread".
I've tried those big, ram eaters - HTC SENSE ROM's
The thing that convinced me to install it was obviously HTC Sense, but I realized that it's unless if I am not using it's widgets (facebook, twitter, messages, etc).
But that wasn't the main reason why I left these roms, the main reason was the performance. Booting took much longer than on normal clean non-sense rom, I had to wait until it stabilize itself after each boot (1-2 minutes, htc sense had to load up and other processes). Scrolling wasn't smooth as on clean rom. These roms are more likely designed for 1024mb hd2's because on 512 hd2's it just doesn't fit (i don't know how it works on 1024mb but i guess the same, the only reason why I said it is for 1024mb hd2's was because mostly every htc sense build requires sd parition). The phone did not respond as quick as on clean gingerbread build. I just think that camera is better than on clean rom, pictures looks nice, sharp with good contrast.
I've also tried MUI roms.
These roms are nice and simple, eye catchy UI and advanced settings. Ability to change lots of things such as boot image and sound, custom firewall, etc. everything can be easily found, just few taps, everything is nicely designed.
However it is not as quick as clean rom, it can hang somewhere, and not always completely translated from Chinese to English. You can customize it for your own needs.
Normal clean roms are the best in my opinion.
I've used mostly all different roms, Android and Windows 7, and I always come back to NexusHD2-Gingerbread rom. I think that the only thing that makes me changing this rom is it's simplicity. It is the cleanest rom I ever seen and quickest one (you just need to change home launcher to GOLAUNCHER as it make the phone super fast and responsible, because on standard one scrolling through apps lags).
So I prefer this rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905060 thanks to it's fast booting, fast responding and stability.
HTC SENSE ROM's might have better benchmarks but believe me it can't be compared with Clean NexusHD2-Gingerbread rom. Every gameloft game
work flawlessly on it.
It is just my opinion from the experience with those roms.
Do we have to have this same topic re-created and re-cycled every single [email protected]*king day?
Its not hard to use search or go through a couple of pages, Its just pure lazyness to create this topic, pure and simple.
Second vote for Gingerbread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905060 It is just great and hassle-free, gave me no trouble of any kind.
As far as threads like this are concerned, I don't see why members can't ask for other members' opinions on what they like or dislike. Of course they can go and check out the available versions by going through the threads and posts, but personal recommendations would be the best way of finding out the outstanding work, rather than waste time going back and forth even after all the reading is done and all the problems are noted. It's not only time consuming, it can be daunting with the amount of information and releases that's out there. Perhaps we should run the best release poll and have it stickied to save time. After that whoever wants to try other things is free to rummage through the section and flash at their heart's desire.
@Gabriel51 your bound to get so many different answers because everyone likes different things as already pointed out
@dawid your right that if you dont use the widgets theres really no point at all so i have to give you that but lets talk about scores for a second. i personally clocked 41.something mflops on RAFDROID HD using linpack, a 2816 quadrant score & vellamo was only 29 points behind the dual core Sensation. now im not saying numbers are everything but you would have to admit thats pretty fast. although i really like the wifi calling feature available on the NexusHD2 ROM which im sadly missing :'( this feature alone is worth flashing that ROM
@TheATHEiST it does seem like this is covered on a daily basis from different people and a search would yeild results if people would ever use it. i will say though in all fairness that i use the search feature everytime im trying to find something but i feel the search function on this site is a little subpar causing it to be difficult at times to find what your looking for. most of the time i dont have any problem at all though.

They can, thats not the point, The point is this is the same question, over and over and over, Why create the same topic and ask it again instead of reading one of the other topics? You are going to get just as relevant answers by reading them as you are creating another topic. All topics like this do is clutter the place up.
For example, If I was to get a new device tomorrow, I wouldnt go and create a silly topic like this in my new devices section as its common sense it will have already been asked and answered, Instead I would go and read the topics that already exist and try some roms out for myself. The fun part is learning and adapting.

I've had this argument a few times now. The point is if you all keep creating threads on topics that have already been Answered your making it harder for people to search for their answers because your cluttering up the forums with sh+t. I'm happy to spend some of MY time answering questions but when the op could of simply typed "revert hd2 to stock xda" into Google and found his answer it becomes quite tedious because this question does get asked everyday.
/edit and the op shouldn't be installing custom roms if he doesn't know how to remove them

Is it possible to have transparent navigation buttons with a third party launcher? I like how it looks on the stock launcher but the stock launcher is to laggy for me. I'd love to be able to have the same affect with a different launcher.
Thanks

Really biting my tongue here...... As a person that spends a fair amount of time reading through these forums I find that comment insulting. I just went through the last 12 pages in this forum looking for a similar question and I found 1, that 1 was not really answered.
I understand that it can be frustrating when the same questions appear over and over, but a comment like that does nothing to add to the conversation and makes people afraid to ask a question when they have them. That right there defeats the whole purpose of this particular forums which is to ask questions and get help.
Ease up on ur panties there slappy, there was a wink behind my comment, which means for the most part I was joking!!!

No worries. I just take a certain level of pride in my willingness to do my research before I break down and ask a question. Not a big deal.
