The same way you rooted it before the OTA update. Existing 2.1 rooting methods work just fine with the JI6 OTA....
Open market
Search for OCLF
Install

Just rooted my phone last week. Do I have to unroot it in order to get the OTA froyo update?
Don't want to play with the ROM right now. Thanks a lot.

Unroot for official or install a copy from the dev threads

Short answer; no. You don't need to unroot to update OTA if you're running a stock build. The update will cause you to loose root though.
Just to clarify for the sake of caution, I installed the leaked 2.2 update. Can I install the official build OTA or do I need to read up on Odin and manually update it? Thanks.

From what I've read, in order to flash the ota you have to have the stock recovery, so your options are to odin the modem and flash one of the roms through cwm -or- odin the entire .tar and then run the one-click-root.

Thanks. But I can use the one-click-root to root my phone again, right?

you could and it will work but why go through the extra work ??
use odin to update the modem (very easy) then go grab the ACS DK28 ROM. it's already rooted for you and it can be flashed via Clockwork .. very easy to do IMO.
I made the major mistake of updating to mf3 before rwading the forums saying to not do it. My question is, is there a way to remove the mf3 update? All I see on the forums is the warning to not update but I dont see you n6thing to fix the problem afterwards.

You can not remove the update. Root is all you can do. Sorry.
I thought rooting was not possible with mf3.

If you are unrooted on MF3, you cannot root.
If you use VooDoo OTA Rootkeeper before taking the OTA to MF3, you can preserve your root on MF3.
It's only a matter of time before developers find a new method to root and use custom recoveries. Just hang in there.

You can flash the factory images. Or a custom rom with has been updated to 4.4.2.
Answering your question. NO. You dont need every little update. Most people dont even notice it. Heck , I'm still using 4.3

Thanks for the response mate.
My question is if its even possible to maintain the root access through the update process.
I've heared once of OTA root keeper or something alike ...

In this very subforum.. Did you even look?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440163
i did a quick search and didnt dig too much. My apologies and thank you.
in the root thread, I didnt read any mention of adding recovery. Does it do that? Or is that a separate install?

TWRP's page has information. Admittedly, I did dig around for a day before I got my G2 to put stuff together to root it, so, there's no one-stop-shop for it all.
Just follow the instructions. After you root, you use the command on the page. Get the latest .img file, do not attempt to get the latest file, which is a zip, and unzip it or something. And of course, get the recovery for your phone.
And type carefully.

my phone keeps telling me that there is an update from att for the phone of 55mb or so. I've tried to download it several times, but it times out apparently after 10% or so.
Do I do that update BEFORE I root? Or can I do it after? I am currently on JB 4.2.2 build JDQ39B
EDIT - I found my answer in another thread. OTA after root = problems. I will retry the update and then root. Is there a way way push the update from the pc somehow?

Hi All,
There does not seem to be a clear yes or no on this, so figured I'd ask. Got the phone off eBay and came with the OTA 4.4.2 update. I'd like to root to get rid of some bloat and try some xposed modules.
Question is if it's possible to root with the OTA 4.4.2 update?
I've seen RDLV, and it seems to require linux or an untested windows compiled .exe file which I'm not too comfortable with....
Any other methods?
Thanks
