[Q] Performance with camera - G2 and Desire Z General

How's the load time of applications like ZXing's Barcode Scanner ?
Pretty much instant? 1 second? Or what seems to be forever?
I'm asking cause I want to compare it with my current SGS...

It is pretty much instant on mine.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2

My G2 is just as fast as my rooted froyo lag fix SGS. I opened numerous apps side by side and the G2 was identical to the SGS.
Lovin this G2

Is it faster than the Nexus S?
Are apps opening in lightening speed?
Is there any lag at all?
Is the camera fairly decent?

P.S. Has anyone managed to remove the sim-lock?

I can still choose whether I get the Nexus S or the Atrix; a friend in the US buys it tomorrow for me. I was done & dusted on getting the Nexus S (coming from an un-rooted Nexus One) until I took a final look on those specs of the Atrix again. That phone just looks too good on paper to not be good!
Guys, more updates please! Help a guy make up his mind..

Apps opening? - Fastest phone I've own yet...
Lag? - yes. Going from an app like Angry birds to home screen, there's an initial lag. It's annoying. Must be Blurrrrr.
Camera? - Disappointed...iPhone 4 is definitely better.
Let's just say I'm ready to install a custom Rom without all the bloatware and lameBlur. Blur kills the phones IMO.
Not many phones can beat the iphone 4 camera appart from Nokia, but is the camera on the Atrix better than the HTC Desire or nexus s.
Cheers.

Would luv to go Samsung but for me a LED notification light is the number 1 piece of hardware then the camers then the screen & samsung will not put a cheap led light on there phones, so only HTC & Motorola for me & HTC have done nothing new this year so far.

Go back to the Nexus S boards then rather than trolling here. You clearly don't have the phone, any anything you state is a matter of opinion, and clearly jealousy since you're on our boards and not yours.
My atrix is fast. I had someinitial lag in the app drawer while using Launcher Pro but it is gone now.

Came from Nexus One. Good upgrade.
Confirmed that with proper account provisioning, unlimited 4G data for $30, and the "phone" apn, upload is either capped by AT&T or HSUPA is disabled on the hardware by AT&T. Tethering plan may increase upload speed but I got no confirmation in this yet.
Otherwise it's an excellent upgrade from the N1.

The phone works great, haven't had any lag at all so far. Only been playing on it for 4 hours though! Launcher Pro works great, I have the 3D settings on and the animations don't lag whatsoever. No complaints with the screen. Only thing that sucks is my Worms game isn't working Something about being an unsupported device.
Man I see you trolling on a ton of threads here and as a Nexus S owner myself you really give us a bad name.
Sound like a jealous teenager hating the fact that someone else could have something better than you... drop it already. Go back to school, learn to read and write correctly.

Thanks for that reply, great to know a fellow N1 owner is happy with the Atrix! The N1 is the best phone I've ever use; I am getting more & more convinced that the Atrix will have me equally mesmerized!!
Just hope that after Tuesday's off - contract sales someone will post a confirmed way to remove the sim lock too..

Should note that if you look at the reviews out there, the N1 battery life is crap (compared to the Atrix). Also the Atrix (like most newer Android phones) has a proper multitouch screeen. So you'll notice way better typing input immediately.
I will admit.... it's nice that nucentury is at least starting to use SOME punctuation. Not enough, but it's still an improvement from the first post i've seen from him in his other thread.
Besides.... who would even take the advice of someone who thinks that a gyroscope makes a phone that much better than any other device when it comes to gaming? A gyroscope has the same exact flaw as Microsoft Kinect. It's only logical to be used for a certain genre of games. Anything outside those genres, and it's just a useless addition to the phone.
Everything for me is great thus far. Phone is very snappy using LauncherPro also using Beautiful widgets.
Typing is spot on. Nice screen resolution. I would say the phone is overall faster than the Captivate and Inspire.

G2X is buggy

I just switched from a Vibrant to the G2X today. For those of you thinking of switching over you should know that it's buggier than a Tijuana whore house! It's so bad in fact that an entire thread has been started so people can list the myriad problems with it. Take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053737
Hell, mine is perfect, no issues..
Remember all the vibrant threads on issues when it was first released? Gps, buttons, signal, cheap etc...
The phone is a beast just like the vibrant despite all the issues it was said to have....
Most of the lil bugs it has is software.. I love my g2x I recommend it to anyone..
I like mine too and have no doubt that the problems will be addressed, either by LG or by dev's making custom ROM's. A RC for Cyanogenmod should be out in a couple of weeks. However if you read some of the posts on that link you'll see that the issues are a little more serious than crappy GPS or slow updates.
no problems here. battery life sucked at first but a factory reset + deleting battery stats fixed that.
seems like besides the LCD bleeding most users are having a good experience with their phones.
Yup I looked at the 2gx but recognized alot of QC problems and just figured I ll wait for S2........... nice to know my gut was right .....
The only outstanding thing about the G2x seems to be its speed, I checked it out at a Tmo store and yeah it's fast but only because of its dual core CPU and stock-like Froyo. I am running Vibrant with Master's Axura ROM and it doesn't feel that much slower than the G2x when it comes to running apps but the webpages opened faster on the G2x (due to its 4G antenna).
The screen quality was very blah after I got spoiled by my Vibrant's Super AMOLED. I am holding out for the Galaxy-2. Even Engadget gave it a glowing review and you know that's something since Engadget's usually too busy sucking Apple's **** to write anything good about non-iCrap phones.

Too true about Engadget. I guess I just got a phone from a bad batch. This one has every bug in the book. Crazy battery drain, random reboots, freezes when it goes to sleep. I can't even return it because I got it on the sly from my buddy that works at T-Mo.
OP, you sound suprised... Why?
Not surprised, just disappointed.

When I update multiple apps on the Vibrant, while an app is installing, my phone is completely unusable. Neither the HTC G2 that I tried for a week or the G2X so much as breaks into a sweat. I don't know what it is about the Vibrant that causes this. Initially, I thought it was the RFS file system. But even with Bionix and the Voodoo fix, an app install renders the phone unusable until it's complete.

It does not make sense. We all gonna get a new phone and Vibrant is the past (G2X is superior to the Vibrant in every aspect (THIS IS SO OBVIOUS) except for the Screen and ). Would you trade your G2X for a Vibrant ??? If you're kind enough to to that, then it is fine to compare G2X to our good old man Vibrant.

iphone 3s is beating my lg g2....

I hate to admit it but.. my phone before gnexus, which was iphone 3gs, is beating my lg g2 in terms of overall speed. Every button i press takes noticeably longer to register and always seems to be the case with every android phone i owned unless its freshly wiped....
How does this even make sense? the sheer hardware..... even with gnexus, i must have tried 20 roms and they didnt vary much. Screen size, hardware, camera, customizability all means nothing if the phone is damn slow no matter which gen/os/rom im using....
Who else experiences this?
Never experienced this. My friend had a 3Gs and even compared to my iPhone 4 at the time it was super slow and laggy. Not sure why your phones lag but my G2 is the smoothest and fastest phone I've ever had.

Yeah pretty instant. I haven't experienced any lag like I did with my GS3.

My G2 is insanely fast. Every normal task is instant. YouTube is slow yes. But that must be bad coding. I have a 3GS I got free from work. And I can't use it because its so damn slow.
Sounds a bit odd considering every and I mean every review gives this phone high marks for performance and how it never lags. And a 3gs of all to try to compare this to. Now that is a complete load of crap.
Being that I have had every phone in the last 3years (check my posts) I can say without a doubt this has been one of the best. The only phone that has been better in fluidity was or is my droid maxx. (New one that is.)
You obviously have a defective phone if a 3gs is beating it in terms of performance.

I was recently playing around with an iPhone 4s and besides the (compared to the G2) tiny screen it also reacted notably slower than my G2 to every task and input. As was said before, only a screwed up G2 can be slower than an iPhone other than maybe the newest.

The speed is still same, now there is just a gap of inactivity and more noticeable lag. My device scores around 34000 in antutu ..... it's frustrating how long simple tasks like opening up recents panel to clicking one and to get it to open. Doesn't even compare to iphone 3s.

Very Slow?

Sheer curiosity:
My Optimus G vs LG G2.
The OG is slower in benchmarks, but faster in loading apps, doing things in apps, loading home, has no lag anywhere, has better standby battery life, and has more available RAM at any time. I'm using the Google keyboard on both, and the OG is smoother and more lag free than he G2. The G2 also constantly has phantom touches, while my OG has a small dead spot at the bottom of he screen. The G2 is generally a pain to use, as the phantom touches mess up typing, and will close an app, go home, and then open another app with no touches.
Could someone please explain to me WHY my OG is quicker? Heck, my SII is about the same speed in normal usage, and it's an antique that's on its last leg. Is my phone messed up, or is this just a common thing?

I notice the same thing, compared to much older P870 which has an extremely snappy Home button and app drawer, G2 seems sluggish.
I also notice some what of a slowdown when I scroll up and down, it has symptoms of touchwiz, incredible specs, laggy operation of simplest tasks, really weird, it feels like something is bogging it down.
Is there an app that we should be deleting (that gets loaded by AT&T) or is there a tool we can use to monitor processor (main and graphical processor) usage? My LG G2 is 2 days old, by the way. This does not impact usability or turn into an annoying issue but it's just really strange.
I don't have phantom touches, you may want to try Quick Memo line test. Just draw straight lines very slowly from top to bottom, see if they stay straight.

[Q] Is LG G2 worth buying?

Hi all,
I'm thinking to buy a new smartphone and im between nexus 5 and lg g2, i saw many issues about the g2 but i just wanted to ask if there are fixed with the last updates for this phone... i love camera and i saw that the camera was better at g2, can someone help me which one to choose?
Thanks.
Which kind of problems did you read about? Tell me so I can help you.
I'm loving this phone but if you're after the latest and greatest then waiting for the s5 will be better for you.

Weigh out the pros and cons. In the end, it really comes down to what you want. I suggest playing with both of them in a best buy store since they have the Nexus 5 in the Google section.

Those issues are not widespread from the post you provided. I don't have most of those issues. IMO, G2 is a step up from Nexus 5. Nexus 5 definitely can't compete with the battery of the G2, or the camera. Also, stock Android is overrated if you ask me. Not every single feature of the G2 is useful, but most of them are. The Nexus 5 hardly has anything special about it.

I'll let you gain insight into my experience with this device.
Bad voice calls are not an issue. My voice calls are really loud and clear and I use quite some time doing calls. Gps usually locks within a few seconds if I'm about the same position and even when I'm not, it takes no longer than 10 seconds to lock my position.
Regarding that post : well you read how the solution to all those problems was to get a replacement because it's simply not normal for the g2. I do have the stuttering issue with xda-developers app. I don't know why this occured, it wasn't there from the beginning.
That said, do NOT expect upgrades for the G2. If you choose to buy it, you acknowledge to stay on 4.4 (once we receive it) because LG are really bad with updating their phones. If you intend on flashing custom ROM then it shouldn't bother you. Stock is awesome though and has a lot of features.
My two cents

I have had this device for 2 days coming from an HTC one which died
The htc one is a beautiful device with build quality second to none however, my new G2 has excellent build quality too IMO despite many opinions to the contrary. I intended not to root my device (skygo requires an un-rooted device) but yesterday I went ahead and did so for one reason and one reason only - so that I could use GMD auto hide soft keys pro - an app which enables you to utilise the whole of the screen all of the time.
Now I have a beautiful 5.2 inch screen in a device that is the same size as my previous HTC one which only had 4.7 inches of screen estate. I am very, very happy with my new device in comparison to my previous one which, incidently, cleaned up in the best mobile device awards.
Its down to you lol. I was in the same boat as you but went for the G2. Better battery and bigger screen. Hopefully the 4.4 update will bring a better camera. I think nexus 5 camera is better mainly because it focuses much much quicker. Got my G2 for the same price as a nexus 5

I had my G2 rooted too (even flashed Hellfire Rom). But first step was to restore stock Rom and finally I flashed stock software to unroot and reset my device to be prepared for the official OTA update. After the KitKat update, I'll root again to optimize this awesome phone with Xposed modules and Romtoolbox Pro.
But this is just for fun. Basically, the LG G2 is so full of features out of the box together with great hardware that rooting let alone flashing is nothing you have to do to make the G2 awesome. Because it's awesome by nature...

My brother has the 5 and i have the g2. the funny thing - we both love our phones but we do like each others a little more.
Nexus 5 - P/C's: google created and always up to date, no bloatware, feels a bit better in my hand, [IMO] takes better pictures but the UI leaves many things to be desired, lower battery life. If I had the nexus 5, I'd feel like i would no reason to use a custom ROM, just root and xposed
G2 - P/C's: dat screen size, buttons on the back [if you like that], good battery life, stock bloatware isnt that bad, and the UI as a whole isnt bad, you can get ALMOST the exact feel of the n5 with a kit kat rom [but all the rom related issues ]. I like my g2 but just wish we could get kit kat out officially so I can just root and xposed and i like the blinking button on the top rather than bottom
G2... I love this phone. I have yet to root this thing and I have no complaints. Call quality is great, wifi and 4G perform wonderfully, I noticed that the phone switches between the various modes (4g, 2g, etc) really quickly and I rarely have issues surfing the web. The camera is awesome, the speakerphone is adequate, no buttons on the sides of the phone is awesome, and I prefer the G2 location of the headphone jack at the bottom of the phone. Battery life is insane! I've gone two full days with moderate use (down to 2% before I plugged the phone in), and with heavy use I get at least 28 hours before I see the battery get into the 10-20% range. Finally I can hand my daughter my phone so she can keep herself busy for an hour or so and not worry about having enough juice to make it through the rest of the day.
All of the included apps have added useful features and it seems that they have pulled some of the best/favorite tweaks and made them part of their default app suite. For the first time in quite sometime, I have not felt the need to root or modify the phone, save for that Android soft key bar at the bottom of the screen, I hate that thing. I might root just to run an app that removes it.
I'm not a person that likes to root, i will use it as it is, with stock rom, it's enough to have good call quality, to feel productive with it and have no lag, feeling good in hand, and battery life of course , i'm a designer and i need good camera, and i think it has a great one. thanks all for the comments, i'm going with G2.
