Sad to say, but my iPhone ON 3G service gets the SAME as the Nexus one ON EDGE..
The iPhone on EDGE gets about 9-10 hours of usage (as shown in usage meter calls, browsing) and about 25 hours standby..
The Nexus One gets about 5 hours on EDGE same usage.. All I do is make 2 hours worth of phone calls, and browse with brightness turned below half..
The nexus one lasts 15 hours for me and its dead (10hrs standby, 5 use) ON EDGE
The iPhone lasts the same (10hrs standby, 5 use) ON 3G, and wayyyy more on edge.. (the reason I got the nexus for att is because I need battery life, and I know edge delivers way more then 3G, and I could care less about faster browsing)
I feel the nexus one get much hotter then iphone, probably because of the snapdragon... i thought the AMOLED screen was supposed to compensate?
What do you guys think?

Did you force 2G-only mode on your Nexus One so that it doesn't constantly search for 3G bands (that aren't there)?
my battery life has been pretty weak as well. I guess its the tradeoff for the 3.7 inch screen and 1ghz CPU.
If you make the Nexus One/Android a "single-task" phone... I'm sure the battery life would last longer than the iPhone
I'd say wait a little bit longer for some of the expected ROM/kernel modifications. When I installed CM's ROMs onto my G1's, I swear the battery life virtually doubled...
Cheers,
Kermee
Same here. The battery life on my N1 on edge is not as good as my 3GS on edge. I'm using Tmobile Edge. When using both phones on heavy useage, the N1's battery life depletes at a much quicker pace.
My battery life has been fine. Lasts me all day with pretty regular use, and I haven't changed any settings. Try doing the old trick of using the phone until it dies completely (won't even turn on) and let it charge over night, that sometimes gives a boost in battery life.
The battery life on the N1 is much better then the battery life on my G1. I have no idea if the N1 has a worse battery life then the 3GS, but it is better then the G1, in my opinion.
I used my N1 for its first full day today, pretty regular use cause I was showin it to everyone, 2 hours of Pandora and on 3G the whole time, didnt use much talk time, but it was at 15% after 10 hours
I took mine off the charger today at 8:10am and at 12:15 (16 hours later) my phone shut down. I used it heavily today.
Don't forget to leave your phone and let the battery completely drain and then recharge to calibrate the battery meter.
My battery life has been amazing on this coming from a g1 and a iphone 2g before then, i have no complaints at all. im easily getting 15 hours and it just hitting red with use all day
i was actually going to start a thread about the whole draining and recharging idea... what is the process, charge it full out of box, drain it and then charge it back up to full?
i always had big problems with the batteries in my tmobile dash, i went through prolly 5 or 6 over a 4 year period...
I haven't charged my phone since 9am, I have put it through heavy use all day. 15 phone calls, wifi, browser, market, installing apps, texting, emailing and using gtalk. It is now 12:10 am and I have 33% battery life, if that sucks then I don't know what would be considered good.

My 3GS will still outlast my N1 even using ProSwitcher to background tasks all day so I really don't think that's it. The N1 has good enough battery life though, at least significantly better than the G1 I had. Currently have 21% battery life remaining after 12 hours with the screen on for 1:30 hours of it and about 20-25 minutes of phone calls. This is on EDGE though.

the screen being on that long will rape the battery... i bet the phone dies in 3 hours if you use a flashlight app to turn the screen all the way up lol
ive had my display off just playing pandora doing little things here while i read the forums and in the 3 hours since my last charge the display accounts for 65% of my battery use lol

That's my typical usage though. Most of it is when using the browser though... If I could do White on Black browser I could save lots of battery with the OLED screen though since it only powers pixels that aren't black...

Phone batteries these days are designed to be charged as much as possible, rather than draining them completely and fully recharging them again. At least, that's how the battery is designed in the other HTC Androids
would someone please take a picture of their N1 with the battery cover removed, preferably with a ruler UNDER THE BATTERY for reference sake ?
I'm just curious as to what size the after-market-from-hong-kong battery is going to end up.
thanks !
Is it normal for my battery to only last 1 day before it needs a charge? I have everything turned off practically and yet I still have it dying after 1 day. According to Battery usage, the only things draining it are the Display and Cell Standby. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

That's about the battery life I get. With light to moderate usage, it lasts about 15 hours before getting down to 20%
I'm in a fringe area and get most of a work day with moderate email, data, and constant music

Same here...11-13 hours is a pretty good stretch for me.
Biggest culprits for battery drain are display and automatic data syncing.
So if you want to extend your battery life lower the brightness on your display.
So for syncing you can either disable it completely so that your applications only refresh for new data when you use them or change the frequency that they check.
I'm getting about the same. Actually I was pretty happy considering all this thing does. Keep an eye out for the extended battery. It's gonna make it thicker but might be a good tradeoff for some of us.

My battery only lasted around 6 hours, so I'm getting a replacement.
I'm with you guys about the battery issue. I mean I know that Android is known to have bad battery life, but the X was heralded as supposedly having decent battery life.
Even with GPS and wifi turned OFF, and my display brightness turned all the way down to 0, I am still only getting about 10-12 hrs of usage. That's BS.
Overall I really like the phone, but the battery issue is getting on my nerves - as well as the damn wifi issue.
I doubt it's going to matter, but I can only hope that Froyo offers up better battery life (maybe more options to turn stuff off). I would love to be able to underclock the CPU or reduce the screen brightness even more.
I am coming from a blackberry that got two days on a charge. The phone sucked though. I get about 13-15 hours per charge on stock battery. I use tasker and y5 to set profiles that toggle wifi and gps so I'm never using extra battery but still able to use device to fullest. I also went on ebay and found two generic batteries with external charger for $13. Now when my stock battery dies, I just throw in a new one that freshly charged and charge up the stock one. Having three batteries to shuffle through means my phone is never plugged in, and never dead. Plus in not charging batteries as often so it should extend over all life of batteries.

How does the battery life compare to the original Droid(stock of course)? Do you guys think the Droid 2 will have similar battery life, or will Froyo and the smaller screen improve it?
I only get around 7 hours when im forum browsing 7 hrs straight

I've noticed the 50% bug on several x's including my own
If i don't use my phone a lot i get 10+ hours easy
But you gotta remember if you're using this phone all out and a lot then of course you're gonna use the battery up quicker.

Seems to be a bug with the gps. That is causing the battery drains. Even after you shut down the program using gps system won't go into a complete Sleep mode seems to be a big study going on over droidforum.net tested mine today with gps off except when in use battery lated 20 hours versus 10 with it on.
Not real technical myself and don't wanna post link to another forum.
Good luck fyi motorola is aware of bug and suppose to be a fix in 2.2

I use the widget "Extended Controls" and leave my WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, etc off unless I need them.
I had the SGS Captivate for three weeks and before that I had the G1 since it came out - the DroidX battery life is longer than both of them.
I'm really happy with the battery life so far.
Also, I read somewhere that it can take a few full drain/full charge cycles to get the most out of your battery. Both myself and my wife completely drained and then completely charged our batteries within the first two days.
I've had the DInc, eris, droid, and nexus one, i couldn't put into words how much better the battery is on my x. I mean its nothing like a dumbphone. But this thing packs as much punch as some older laptops so i don't expect a lot out of the battery. Check ur apps, sometimes u get ****ty" rogue" apps that screw it up, and if u use a task manager only kill intense apps like web or messages or gmail. The other processes are need to make the phone run correctly, i know i've seen better performance and battery life since i stopped using one.

I leave everything on wifi, gps, auto brightness, blue tooth, and im getting the best battery life of any phone i have ever owned, even better than my nexus one . My sister has a Droid X, and all she does is complain about her battery life. Although she is coming from a blackberry, i think that most people expect more from the battery than it can physically give, if you wonder about how long it lasts just take a look at the screen, and realize it takes alot of juice to run this huge beast .

I had never heard of this before so I did some research and my X was doubling the time on in Cell Standby and showing 50% used. I was getting 12 - 13 hours of battery life. I did the airplane mode cycle trick and now I'm getting 24+ hours of battery life. And now Cell Standby displays normally. Amazing.
A big thanks to xmunk as that was the only thing that was driving me nuts about the X and I was thinking about getting a replacement. Now the battery life is great!
I would recommend anyone having poor battery life check to see what Cell Standby is reporting.
Oh wow.... Im showing since unplugging my phone 3hr 54m ago I've used the following for power:
51% Display
38% Cell Standby
12% Phone Idle
I just cycled Airplane mode and will checkout what happens next.
That a ton of power being used for standby. My Nexus one used 1-2% per hour while not in use and on standby. Battery left is estimating my battery is at 76% right now with a system % of 80% showing.
I hope this gets looked into.

Well- since you guys have already done all the work -would you mind maybe sharing a few links?
-thanks if you can.
Just installed JuiceDefender and I am now getting ALOT better battery life. I also don't think signal effects it because I am in a low signal area. One underneath on the widget is time since last unplugged, and you can see in notifications area the %'age of battery. Have been playing music, browsing internet ect, just using it moderately.

Best record so far before getting down to 10% battery life is 25 hrs 48 minutes.
Sheeeiit. I'm lucky to get a full 12 hours on a single charge. So far. Only been through three full battery cycles so far.
2 days without problems.
Surfing, calling, WiFi, playing games, camera.
With really heavy usage like massive calling and browsing, it's was drained in one day.
Not long ago, first day low usage (FM radio, a bit od camera usage, couple of calls), lasted three days with 20% left.
nahhh ... i guess u r using a Mugen Power 3200mAh extended battery
otherwise impossible ..
wat firmware, rom, lagfix , progs are u using that gets u near to the end of the second day??
The biggest battery killer is 3G. Turn it off when you don't need it and you'll get quite nice battery life boost even without installing annoyances like Juice Defender. With 3G, my battery lasts hardly a day of light usage. On 2G, I can get two, maybe three days of light usage. Most of the time I don't need the 3G speed anyway, 2G is fast enough for a lot of things.
You might also try deleting battery stats and/or leaving the phone to turn itself off and then letting it charge until it tells you it's fully charged (you may turn it on after you've connected it to the charger, but not before that!). That way you'll calibrate the battery meter to your battery capacity properly, so it won't lie to you.
Oh yeah, and contrary to battery theory and logic, your battery WILL improve quite a bit after a week or two. Three cycles is not enough. Just be patient, give it time.
how do you switch from 3G to 2G? noob here.
Settings, Wireless, Mobile networks, Network mode - GSM only is 2G only. WCDMA is 3G.

Stock battery, G7.
You can see in my signature which ROM I am using, it's stock JG5 with no lagfix.
First couple of days since I bought it, I was very disappointed about battery life (previous HTC Touch HD lasted 2-3 days).
I came so far that I set wallpaper to black and even then it didn't last much more than one day. After some time battery life extended and it became quite better, even with Nexus live wallpaper.
3G is OFF in my case, I am mostly on WiFi when I need connection, but GPRS / EDGE are always ON.
I use 3g and battery is ok unless I play games.easily last 2 or 3 days on standby with a few short call s
1h Or 2 With games lol
I have quite bad 3G reception at home, living out of town.
At work it's ok, but I rarely need 3G so there's no problem.

Part of this depends on how your carrier acts. If I turn off 3G it means I can't use data, I can't sync etc. Sync & applications launching and background data is a bigger battery drain...multiples higher than 3G in my guess. EDITAccording to GSM arena, my 2G/3G talk time was way off, but I think their data is old. I'll remove it for now and replace it with "Up to 750 h (2G) / Up to 576 h (3G)"...it's not sooo much the network as what is going on when you might be connected to that network.
edit 2 GSM arena seems to have the most recent info, I thought they were approximating this from their test units.
Just fyi for those unaware.... Bell is a 3G only network, nationwide. You can't disable 3g on Bell and still have data.

I'm also using Juicedeffender and my battery live improved a lot. Now I can run the phone 24-30h without charging.
I'm probably going to pick up a G2 pretty soon and was wondering how everyone was doing as far as battery life goes.
Sound off in the comments below if you have anything else to add!
Ok, weird story that happened to me today. I forgot to plug my G2 to the charger last night before I went to sleep, it had already been charged. I woke up, it's battery reading was at 100%...
Such is life with a G2
great using an evo battery and i can go atleast 36 with heavy usage
Along with mild usage, I can go about a day and a half before it's time to plug it in.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I have the chichi red batts in ours and they go about 9-12hr with true heavy usage, read constant data up/down or games. The stock batts were good for 6-9hr. We live in an EDGE area 2-4 bars reception, screen brightness on auto, non root phones with all bloatware active.
Of course having said the above, if I fall asleep with 20% batt and sleep 8-12hr I wake up with 18-20%, 20min on the charger and I've got 50% batt.
Awesome. With my usage, I last around 12-18 hours, depending on intensive or normal. Still plan to order that 1800mAh Galileo battery.. lol.
The battery life is very good, but I don't use wi-fi and only 2g data. Even with tweaks it took a week for the phone to have long battery life. I have no idea if the battery had to be "conditioned" - doesn't make sense since it's lithium, or calibrated to the phone's battery meter.
This is good...It sounds way better than the G1 Battery.

How long does your battery power last between charges? My seems to runs out fast.
My battery last 2 days maximum, with normal usage (texting, wifi for bout 10 mins music for an hour) it will last on average a day.
Same here
Battery life is poor, need to charge at elast once a day; on top of this, charging seems to be awfull slow if the display is on.
Depends on how much I use Wifi, the wifi on the F1 is the real guzzler, having said that, compared to my Touch HD and Omnia II it gets 2 bars signal where those two only get one, as well as the F1 having around 40% better bandwidth.
Usually have to charge it up every day, it is a struggle to get through a second day without consciously minimizing use.
It's very fast, the other two aren't, I consider battery life to be the trade off for that, have owned a lot worse though, eg XDA Flame
Least it's not as bad as my tg01! 1ghz 1000mah and a bigger screen. The battery gets eaten with 3.5hrs heavy use only
+1
Battery life is very short with this phone. 2-3 days max with no wifi, no GPS, only phone-sms...
