Australia - Android GPS NOT working. - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Currently tried a number of HD2 Andriod Froyo ROMs and ended up settling on HyperDroidV1.6 - however, after working through a number of teething issues I still CANNOT for the life of me get GPS to work here in Australia.
NOTE: I'm trying to use GPS Satellites - GPS using Wireless Networks WORKS but is totally inaccurate
So I've read through the numerous posts on here and a ton of other sites/forums to no avail, below is/are the changes I made with no success.
For the record I am using ChuckyROM (latest) as WinMo Base
1. Edit system/etc/gps.conf with the following:
Code:
NTP_SERVER=0.au.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=1.au.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_2=2.au.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_3=3.au.pool.ntp.org
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
2. Ran QuickGPS on WinMo before booting into Android;
3. Downloaded and installed both GPS Status and GPS Test and set them up to automatically download Sateliates.
Have tried ALL the above, and still whenever I go to Maps, Latitude or Navigation I get:
"Your current location is temporarily unavailable"
Ideas/Help?

I'm using the exact builds and etc, hell even with Telstra and I too had a problem with gps not connecting.
Eventually I edited the gps.conf file and it got working but it takes a while to get a fix (at least half a minute).
On saying that, I see you've edited the file already to the same settings I have so I'm at a loss here.
But if you find a fix, I would like to know as it may help to speed up my gps...

Can i enquire as to what Radio and ROM your using mate?

Okay.
First off the GPS.conf file relates to how android downloads your GPS-A data. However the whole process does not work.
The fix people are reporting is a have.
Without GPS-A data you can still get a GPS fix however you really need to be in an open place and stationary. Should be under a minute.
However the easy fix is to download the GPS Status and toolkit (eclipsim)app. Download the GPS-A data and bam. You will get valid locks in 5 seconds.
When running the app the bottom left of the compass will have an age of the GPS-A data. What does it say?

I'm not sure this is going to be any help to you but...
GPS is working just fine for me. With "Brut Google Maps" I've even used it for Navigation whilst driving.
I haven't fiddled with any gps.conf in the few builds I've tried. I run QuickGPS in WM when I remember as many folks swear that makes a big difference.
When it initially "locks" it may be off by about a block, but once it gets a few more satellites (within about a minute, depending on your view of the sky) it becomes rock solid.
I haven't used those other apps but I know Ulysse Gizmos shows how many sats you've locked on to, time of last lock, etc
In case it's any use this is the gps.conf from the build I'm using atm:
Code:
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
Comparing that to what you have I'd suggest changing the XTRA_SERVER lines to match the above.
You've set them to NTP servers. They aren't going to supply the bin file needed, which I'm guessing is something to help the GPS lock faster.
That may even be causing your problems!

Good spotting. Didn't even notice.
The first line is to ensure your phones time is correct. If you query alaska versus bali you will still get the same values. No point changing that.
The next three lines are URL's to the GPS-A data which is satelite data. Basically I wrote heaps about it previously and can't be bother repeating. Simply without this info your phone needs to download it direct from the sat's which is very slow and cannot be resumed. GPS-Status downloads this from the internet which is very fast. Once the GPS has this info it can lock sats very quickly. Hastarin's post has good data.
The GPS status app can force download this info which makes it unique.
I am in Perth, wa and have no issues with gps locks from the above.

The gps is still buggy. Sure, you get quick fix after gps.conf, quickgps and agps data download in 'gps status' from market, but it doesn't last long! Only way I can replicate the fast fix you get right after you have done all the .conf, etc is to set Tasker to launch every now and then to get new agps data.

Right so spent the last 4 hours working through things with no success:
- Ran Task29, loaded on new Radios (2.14.50.04 and 2.15.50.14) and also loaded VBNRom RELOADED 2 - WWE 3.14 Core and also reloaded ChuckyROM.
- Ran QuickGPS in WinMo
- Edited the north-america.pool.ntp.org to au.pool.ntp.org, left the rest default as suggested by hastarin.
- Ran GPS Status + Toolkit (downloaded Satellites).
Still NOTHING if I use GPS Satellites - with Wifi GPS it locates me BUT 3 streets over in a tree haha.
ROM: HyperDroidV1.6
Radio: 2.14.50.04 and 2.15.50.14

How long did you leave it?
Wide open space?
I presume it works fine in WinMo?

Left it for 20 minutes - kept touching screen so it wouldn't turn screen off (wasn't sure if that would stop it).
Yeah, on my balcony - tried a number of locations too - at work, in the car home and at home.
Booted into WinMo and downloaded Google Maps had a WAY more accurate location - at-least I was on the right street.. Any other free programs I can try in Windows?

Did you try the app I mentioned to see how many satellites are locked on?
With 3 you'll be in the general area but with 9 you should be within a few meters.
Sent from my HTC HD2

Just use GPS status under android.
Ensure the circle is showing 0 days. Go via the menu
Settings > GPS & Sensors > Manage A-GPS state
Click Reset
Click download
Back to main screen. Lock took 30 seconds inside at the computer. Brand new rom just downloaded.

Once a lock is established the toolbar icon will stop flashing and the long/lat will show down the bottom panel (Currently rotating)

Thanks for the continued support guys.
@hastarin: I did indeed use the app you suggested - but no cigar, didn't get to check number of satellites but left it for a good 20mins while @ dinner. Will check when I get home.
What ROM and Radio are you using?
@dusty_nz: Currently away with work and didn't bring HD2 as the battery life with Andriod was to poor for business enviroment (another matter). But I did indeed, reset, and download the satellites a number of times with no luck.
When I get home again I will try once more; the issue is it just keeps rotating (the circle) - I get nothing.
What ROM and Radio are you using?
@OP: As an update, I just tried my mates Desire, rooted and updated to a stock Froyo 2.2 ROM and with Wifi Satellite UNTICKED he gets nothing using GPS Satellites - different phone, different Radio and it still doesn't work - makes me think something to do with Telstra?

I am also on telstra.
Technically you should be able to yank the sim and still use the gps. I will try that tomorrow.
I am on a Miri WM base. have used all the radio's with no issues and currently on Froystone 3.2 rom.
I am on a t8585 however am waiting for my t9193 to arrive and will test.

Hey elite_gamer04,
Remember me in hyerpdroid thread? I also had problems with gps before, but now it is working accurately. There is 1 time I lost connection, I just disabled then re-enabled GPS then its ok again. I uploaded my gps status snapshot....I'm not sure if it is with winmo rom because I also changed my winmo rom to stock now. At least I'm sure now it is not with hyperdroid.
Gudluck with your gps...This is my setup now:
Winmo rom: Stock (ARA-WWE)
Radio: 2.15

I seem to be having the same problem here in the USA.
I downloaded GPS status, downloaded the GPS-A data, turned on GPS satellite and made sure the data was 0 days old and still no luck. I've checked the gps.conf to make sure that's normal looking too.
When I open up GPS status in an open environment it doesn't show any satellite information at all :/ I'm not really sure what to do at this point. Any tips?

I have had the same issue (slow or no triangulation) since I started with Android builds with two different HD2's.

Hmm, no not yet. I'm currently using the the newest VBNROM with 2.15 radio. I tried with the old VBNROM and it didn't work there either.
I guess i'll try stock later tonight and see if it helps any. Just out of curiosity, how does the winmo rom effect things like GPS when in android?
Edit: Just to be sure. This would be the ROM right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717600

-I was using chuckyrom rom and vbn before but I think they didn't gave me accurate readings also (or maybe just a bad network) but I'm sticking to the stock for now. I am also curious with that cause I thought drivers are only things working that are winmo based.
-That is a custom rom. Stock roms are the 1s that came with your hd2 when you 1st bought it. If you are on a contract, you should get the stock rom that your operator provided.

GPS on 2.1 ROM's

I've been flashing and switch radio's like crazy the last couple of weeks since all these new ROM's have been coming out. Anyway, since all of this, at some point my GPS quit working reliably. Sometimes it will grab a signal, sometimes not (always testing outside in clear sky).
I've seen a few people complaining of this exact same thing, yet no reliable solution. I've placed this in the Dev section in hopes a Dev with GPS experience see's it and reviews our problems.
Currently I'm on bcrook's port of Cyan 5.x T5. I've reflashed radio, h-boot & recovery and restored my Nandroid. No change.
Any idea's.....anyone?
I was on SuperEclair 0.9/1.0 and it stopped working. I switched back to CapyMod's Legend Sense (based on Sanpei's) and it still isn't working :S
Is there any troubleshooting that can be done? Logs somewhere perhaps?
Well, either flashing test5, or flashing my radio again has made it work again for GMaps and GPS Status, but am having problems with CoPilot.
CoPilot quits about 5 seconds after starting, so I plugged in so I could get a LogCat of it, and it starts. After many tests, it does indeed work while plugged in, and does not work when unplugged. I guess I'll have to contact ALK.
You just re-flashed the same radio again? Did you use the new windows tool?
Yes, I just flashed the same radio again, plus Hboot and recovery. No, I probably didn't need to do the recovery, but in the end it didn't hurt anything eitrher. I am on old radio, just as a FYI.
No I did not use the tool, I did it manually from Cursors instructions thread.
From here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=605239
I'll give that a try, thanks
I have a question for more knowledgeable people than myself and a thought for all of us.
A lot of roms are now using the tweaked settings in the build.prop files to increase the upload/download 3G/Edge speeds.
These settings are known to interfere with 3G/Edge connectivity depending on the network, carrier, phone, rom, etc. - I think.
I haven't done this yet, but it would be worth testing whether reverting back to the standard settings for 3G/Edge in the build.prop files results in better more consistent GPS connections. You would lose the blazing fast download speeds, but you might gain stability and consistent connectivity.
I don't use GPS much or CoPilot or any navigator.
Someone should push an edited build.prop or build.sapphire.prop file to their phone and test.
The modified settings are something like:
ro.ril.hep=1
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.enable.dtm=1
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=8
ro.ril.enable.a53=1
ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix=1
ro.ril.htcmaskw1.bitmask = 4294967295
ro.ril.htcmaskw1 = 14449
ro.ril.hsupa.category = 5
I think the original were:
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
adb remount
adb push build.sapphire.prop /system/build.sapphire.prop
adb shell reboot
Here is one of the threads on the topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595291
SuperEclair for 32A NR has the modded settings for speed. I would be happy to remove them if we get confirmation.
Just FYI, the cupcake my Magic came factory-installed with had:
ro.ril.enable.a53=1
ro.ril.hep = 1
ro.ril.htcmaskw1.bitmask = 4294967295
ro.ril.htcmaskw1 = 800881
Carrier is Orange.pl in case it matters.
Time to revive this thread? Seems there's no solution in sight.
FWIW I am currently testing the CM port to new radio by carz12, and my gps is not working at all (no position fix).
gps works fine for me - locks depending on how nice the satellites are withing 10s - 1m accurate to 5-10m

I can't rule out the possibility that some of us just have defective gps units in our phones. I'm hoping someone suggests a way to diagnose this.

My GPS is working just fine with Cyanogen 5 stable from alan090.
Mine is not working eirher. I have CM5 stable (the same with other ROM versions). The GPS worked within 1sec on Ndrive with HTC Stock ROM. With CM mod , i reboot the phone , go to Ndrive, works like charm ; exit; enter again and it doesn't work ..... so i don't use navigation any more... less of a headake ...
if a solution comes up i am more than willing to try it ..

The first new radio rom I tried was HTC's official senseui cupcake (rooted, though), and that had issues too.
I distinctly recall having gps issues while I was using old radio roms as well. Those included CM4, SuperD, and Cannon's Complete Eclair. I will experiment with this though. Does anyone know a simple way to carry apps and settings between roms over different radio versions?

[Q] Spica GPS problems

Hi all,
I am trying to find out how widespread the GPS locking problems are with this model. I am talking about non-assisted GPS, which can be tested using the "GPS Test" application on the market.
So, how is the GPS on your phone performing using GPS Test? Please give some detailed information like lock time, number of sattelites, urban/countryside location, and if possible firmware version of your phone.
---
My Spica cannot get a lock at all, will see up to 11 satellites but most of them with signal strength bars at zero. Firmware versions tested (all same result)
1.5 (XEJB2)
2.1 (XXJD1, XXJD4, XXJF2, XXJC3)
Same pb with my wife's spica. Samdroid version with FE7.
Can't lock withour assistance. What a pitty.
Go to your Settings -> Date & Time -> Uncheck Automatic and see if it helps
Or you can try this (need root)
http://forum.samdroid.net/f38/gps-speedup-1262/
http://forum.samdroid.net/f10/fasterfix-1747/ <-- same but easier
i can get a fix under 2 minutes if I stay still...moving, it can take an eternity

i just don't bother with that any more...I might do it again after a month without wiping any data
rooting is like breathing to me ... as it would be to most of the people here
Anyone found a solution yet?
My spica wont connect via gps either. It just keeps blinking and nothing happens...not even after 30min.
I've tried GPStest and it reports that 12 satellites are in view but non in use, and there is no bars everything is at 0...not picking any signal at all :S
I tried my friend's one too and he gets a signal imediatley and a lock after about 10-30seconds.
Any solution to this? Is it a software problem or hardware problem?

I installed the alpha CyanogenMod 2.2 and GPS is working like a charm!
Problem was with the wrong libraries being used in many of the custom roms found at SamdroidMod. Devs found out about this issue and fixed it in this 2.2 release.
I'm running original firmwire which i got on the phone. (XXJE4)
I'm not willing to install alpha cyanogen of froyo yet...Is there really no other solution? I've had a chance to compare my spica to another one with original firmwire (JE4 too) ant that other spica worked while my gps had no lock. Also i had the chance to try one with samdroid on and it worked too.
Mine works from time to time. at the moment it works, earlier today it wouldn't get a lock no matter how long i waited.
First thing-delete /data/xtra.bin- this is data for agps which seems to cause gps locking problem. You can do it with RootExplorer/SUFBS or any file manager with root rights. Or use GPS Status and Reset agps data from setting. You can also try to swap libsec-ril.so, JF2 version works best for me. If you want I can provide update packages for libsec-ril.so
i have installed cyanogenmod 7.1 on mine, and can get a lock under 1min30s outside or under 3min in the bus near the window.
I have a rooted spica with android version: 2.2.2, baseband version: i570EXXJC1, kernel version:2.6.29 and Mod version:SamdroidMod-2.2.2-a9.
When I go to google maps app and click set location I always get an error saying: location temporary unavailable ! I checked the option on Settings->Location and security->Use wireless networks and use GPS satellites. And my phone is connected to the internet.
I just bought the phone last week, and its really embarrassing not getting this to work.

thanks for the useful info, you saved my life by this post.
i thought my gps is wrong in my spica then it was just a bug in the cooked rom. cyanogen mod is cool and gps is working now perfectly.

SLOW GPS FIX in android

Could someone Tell me why GPS fix is so slow (with every android build yet)?? most times it takes 5-10 Minutes to find satellites with googlemaps /copilot .. is this a Known issue ?? My location is the Netherlands..
Do i need to set the something in the startup.txt ?
Get gps status from the market to download satellite information for a quicker fix, mine works in a matter of seconds
Even with GPS status.. the thing takes a long time to get a lock
Try the solution presented here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=738982 and report.
What did the trick to me was:
1. Updating QuickGPS, on WinMO;
2. Installing GPS Status and downloading assistance data:
::: Settings&Configuration : GPS&Sensors: Manage AGPS data.
I am getting consistently fast locks now But what made the difference this time was updating QuickGPS on WinMo... Check my sig for details on my setup.

It certainly isn't useless, as many users have reported this as a solution. For me, it was the solution that definitely worked. I've tried every other method, including editing gps.conf file, using GPS status, etc, and the results weren't consistent. But after I updated my QuickGPS on WinMo, I have been getting consistent results, every time I try, as short as 5 seconds to get me a lock.
As you should know, some settings in WinMo still affect your hardware in Android: e.g., look at the "calibrate g-sensor in WinMo" recommendation. I think this is also the case with GPS.
But! what you can do in wimo is also possible in Android: getting AGPS... with GPS status..
so getting Agps information is not the problem here..
Possibility's
The radio ? with some radios with my winmo devices it took 5 minuts to get 6 satelites and with other radios (like blackstone 13.32.24xxx) it took 10 seconds to get 11 satelites .. in 10 seconds..
So I really think its Radio related..
Or the gps sensor isn't working 100% correctly..
Shouldn't we test some radio's for best gps performance.,
What is radio blackstone 13.32.24xxx??? never heard of it before.

Worked for me, thanks !! (it now locks in less than 10 sec, in comparison to several minutes before updating quickgps in Winmo).
The problem with some people in this forum is that they have to be smart ass, they will argue with you that there is no logic in your fix, even though it works. Too bad for them.

I've tried different radios and that didn't to absolutely anything to the GPS performance on Android. QuickGPS, on the other hand, gave me results. Even just using GPS Status didn't do anything for me.
By the way, A-GPS and QuickGPS assistance data are different things. QuickGPS can be useful to you even if you don't any signal when you are using GPS on your handset (if, of course, you have downloaded before your assistance data and it's up-to-date). To use A-GPS, you need to have signal...
Why don't your try this solution and see for yourself? You just have to update QuickGPS on WinMo. If you are using a light WinMo ROM, with no QuickGPS, try a regular stock or cooked ROM. The latest ChuckyDroid is a lite version, but has QuickGPS, though.
Try it, and then tell us if it worked for you.

Worked for me, thanks !! (it now locks in less than 10 sec, in comparison to several minutes before updating quickgps in Winmo).
The problem with some people in this forum is that they have to be smart ass, they will argue with you that there is no logic in your fix, even though it works. Too bad for them.

I am very glad it worked for you! I was doubtful when I first read this solution... but it does work wonders!

I think this is also the case with GPS.

some settings in winmo affect your hardware in android 'cause winmo is used to initialize the hardware, so that it has a certain state when booting android. this is due to the fact that our android drivers cannot initialize hardware (yet), so winmo is needed.
why should starting quickgps in winmo help in android? as far as i know all that quickgps does is downloading satellite position information to help the gps driver to fasten up the calculation of the current position in case of a cold fix.
if this would help in android, it would mean that the satellite data is some kind of stored *inside* the gps chip. otherwise andoid wouldn't be able to access the position data (orbit) of the satellites.
or am i completely wrong? if so, please help me and correct it...i'm just curious

This is correct. The satellite data is stored inside the GPS chip (this is written in the help file of the "GPS status" app).
It could be that because the android drivers are lacking in the HD2, we can only read from the GPS but not write (this is why updating the satellites work from WinMo but not from Android. because android can't write to the GPS chip).

thanks for your reply!
ok, then some kind of "quickgps" for android would help too...
so winmo is not necessary/needed for gps to work properly.

Thats a Good Point!
Holy Cow it worked! I mean it works!
Who can argue with that?
Sat data is input to gps chip. And the data is usually good for 7 days.
So if you use quickgps in winmo to update sat data, it will also make gps fast in android too at least a week.
gps status app in android also has the ability to download sat data, but quickgps in winmo seems better.
DON'T THINK ABOUT LOGIC. JUST TRY IT. IF you now a place where winmo gps works very fast, get a gps lock under winmo and then boot android. You will see that Android now gets a lock in seconds too.
Most people have problems with gps because their gps.conf file is empty, or they are not "really" in open air.
Gps will get a fix more difficult:
- If the weather is cloudy
- If there are buildings near you
- If you are actually inside a building
- If you are in a vehicle and vehicle is moving fast.
- If you don't have the assistance data in your gps chip.
- If you force your gps chip to do a cold start (instead of hot or warm start)
- If you don't have a working reliable internet connection (to download satellite data to aid in calculation)
- If you have an empty gps.conf file
Sometimes if I can't get a gps lock quickly, before blaming Android I reboot to winmo and see it doesn't always get a fast lock. Environment is a huge factor. So before thinking it is an Android problem, reboot to winmo use quickgps to download sat data and wait for a accurate fix in google maps or similar app. (google maps will first get your location from google location server which is usually only accurate to several hundred meters. Make sure you wait for the actual lock with a few meters of accuracy.
Since you "have to" load winmo before android (as no nand boot exists yet) just download sat data every few days before launching haret. It would be a good idea to get a fix and then launch haret.
The trick with quickgps also works in my device. Now android is almost perfect. Camera, gps work, no freeze. I only want 720p playback.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
This theory makes me wonder.
Why is there a xtra.bin in the windows folder?
If there was an issue with the GPS in winmo it was sometimes needed to delete that file and download it again via the quickgps tool.
I wish I could try the quickGPS solution but unfortunately I'm using a very light version of windows mobile and quickGPS wasn't included. I tried to download and install one but got the error message about it not being signed or trusted.
So I can't figure out how to run QuickGPS and take advantage of these fixes.

What's the best gps.conf to use in the Netherlands? GPS Problems

Hello people,
I've a question, especially for the Dutch (Noord-Brabant) people on this forum.
My GPS on my HD2 is extremely slow, i'm getting a first GPS lock in about 15-30 minutes. Sometimes it won't work at all! On the WindowsMobile days I had the feature to download (A-)GPS sattelite posisitions (QuickGPS if i'm right) but this this isn't possible for Android. I think have to manually edit the gps.conf file, but i don't know what the best values are.
I've tested my GPS locks in the car, garden, inside my house and at the beach.
Maybe we can start a thread where people can share their configuration to help the people like me, sorted by country.
Can anyone help me?
I have the app GPS Status.
It downloads GPS settings when you open it.
No problems with GPS, I do not use it often but fix normally under 5 min (cold start)
Further search for a thread that explains how to edit the GPS config file, maybe that will help.
I have AmericanAndroid (SD), I do not know what android version you have?
SD / Nand?
Thanks for the fast reply!
I'm running Typhoon's CM7 nand build, the newest. In the thread of this build on XDA I can read this:
Known issues:
......
-AGPS does not work, this does not work in any ROM currently.

I've already downloaded the program GPS Status and downloaded the GPS information (on startup indeed) but I don't think it's really downloading this information.
I had success with the fasterfix application setting the pool to
be.pool.ntp.org, for NL it will be nl.pool.ntp.org
Afterwards I used GPSstatus app to check how the fix on the Satellites are and to download the A-GPS statusses.
As far as I know our gps connection can be affected by weather, your own possition (outdours / indoors) and the android build you are using.
Last night I had a good satellite fix in less then a minute (outdoors/clear sky and BE gps pool)
Android: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062881 (honeycomb V20)
I'll test changing the pool! Thanks for the advise!
I've tested the GPS many times on different places and 2 days ago on the beach (clear sky and very hot )! So I don't think my problem isn't related to the weather or constructions / houses.
this might be worth checking out aswell http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630
Haven't tested it yet
I'm also from Noord-Brabant (Ehv). Just tested my GPS time to fix, lying in my hammock in the garden . It's about 60 sec in cold start and 5 sec. in hot start with GPS Status.
I'm using Tyween CM7 3.2.0 and radio 2.15.40.xxx. I'm using standard gps.conf but changed the NTP server with fasterfix. There is no need to use AngelDeath's settings.

[Q] GPS not working

Hello,
I have bought a HTC HD2 with a broken digitizer from my friend, fixed it by myself and installed tytung JellyBean 1.2 rom. Everything work fine (phone, WiFi, bluetooth), except no program can find any GPS satellites. All program shows that "GPS is on", or "GPS signal detected", but no matter how long I wait it can't get any signal from satellites. At first I thought that GPS antenna coaxial cable might be disconnected, so I dissembled my phone, but didn't find any problems. Then I made some research and tried to modify GPS.config file (to add NTP server), installed "AngelDeath" Instantaneous GPS Fixation v1.2, tried some programs, but nothing helped.
My phone configuration:
HTC HD2 (512)
HSPL: 2.08.
Radio: Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14
Bootloader: MAGLDR v1.13
Recovery: Clockwork Mod Recovery 5.0.2.6
Tytung Android 4.12 NAND rom (with data on sd)
Maybe someone knows how to test if GPS chips is good (want to figure out if it is a software version or hardware)?
Many thanks!
P3tras
P.S. I do not know if GPS worked before. I didn't try it with stock windows mobile soft and the person whom I bought phone from didn't ever use GPS
About the gps issue...
I've been on NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a, EvoHD2v10 ICS 4.0.4-full HWA, NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.8,
PARANOIDANDROID HD2 v1.5b, and a few other roms I can't remember...
It seems the gps works great when Wifi or mobile Data is on and can access the internet,
other than that it'll just keep on scanning until it spots a gps satellite.
I have a map app, that downloads the maps of certain countries or cities, but when I turn on gps, it just stay searching for a satellite...
once I turn on wifi and also turn on location services for google (all check on boxes), it takes secons for the gps to pinpoint where I'm at...
Not very good in rural areas where there's very little reception...
it seems miui roms made from langthang or possibly any gingerbread roms works well,
since I had no problems with the gps in miui, rafdroid or coredroid...
I did made a search through google using advanced search and the forums, but only found 4 threads, all but this one only a month old...
Maybe it works for you, get fasterfix from google play, and set it at your current location, then turn on your location services
in the settings, then use your map...
I have a EU HD2 currently running NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a, which in my opinion is running great, minus the gps running offline...
Magdlr
data on ext
16gb sandisk SDcard
Update!! Looks like all I needed to do was put a check on wifi and mobile network location under
settings -> location access.
It might download gps data like windows mobile did when it needed to, but this time google doesn't tell
you that, it just does it...
I haven't tested it when I'm outside so I'll test it tomorrow. I'll post the results after.
current rom I'm using: NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a, with same settings.
Another Update!!
Just got back from a computer hiccup, and yes, GPS does work offline, it took a while for my phone to pick up
a satellite, but only around 2 to 3 minutes on the second try, it seems that it can pick up in seconds with data
help, then it takes a little longer every minute or hour the GPS is used offline...
But that's my assumption on this process based on how it worked on windows mobile...
Also it's the same on my pad but that's another matter... All I can say is get a map software that download maps
into your phone, rather than the app constantly hogging/relying on your data connection, of course if data connection is
an issue, if not, disregard the last bit.
