[Q] wireless teather - Epic 4G General

Anyone know how to get wireless teather to work on the samsung epic?

Ok problem fixed
Ok finally after days of searching the site i finally found the way to make my wireless teather work on my epic. Go here and do the exact thing it says to. Mine works flawless now, with 800 kbps down load on only one test
remounted my system as r/w
downloaded SuperUser by ChainsDD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828
Menu >> check for newer SU >> yes install
Downloaded and installed this wifi-tether: http://code.google.com/p/android-wif...Samsung+Galaxy
I also have busybox installed.
wifi tether shows up as an Adhoc, but not as an access point.

Have you tried flashing the Mobile AP tool through clockworkmod recovery? Its a native app that was designed for the galaxy s.

Wifi tether broke after appying rom?

I tried 2 seperate roms. Experience and AOSP magic rom and both seems to break Wifi Tethering for me. When I start the app, it says unable to start try again. I've try to reinstall no luck either.

If you are using Epic Experience, the compatible version of Wireless tether is put on your SD card..
Use a file manager and find the folder called "Epic Experience" its in there. Do not install it from the market.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
pre 8 and 9 work i believe (i use 9 but i think others include 8 which works on Epic).
i've heard that after flashing a new ROM you may have to go into settings > applications > manage applications > wireless tether and clear data. might want to try that
I figured out the problem. After applying the new rom, the Super User permission got erased. The quick fix for me was to re-root with super user to reset everything then it worked again.
Same goes with a lot of other programs that needed SU permission.

Cannot root AT&T GT, with z4root

I just picked up my AT&T Galaxy tab, brand new. When I tried to install the z4root.apk file with the filemanager, I got a message:
"Install blocked. For security your phone is set to block installation of applications not obtained from Android market"
What gives? Three days ago I was able to use z4root to root T-Mobile's Galaxy Tab.
Is this device "locked" onto Market and how do I fix that without root?
The options are setting and cancel. Settings take me to "applications" and "development" is to to "allow mock locations" - but it does not make a difference.
PLEASE help.
Thanks
There is perfectly good z4root in the market, you don't have to sideload it.
i used it on my sprint tab and it didnt give me read / write access to system folder

you should remount the /system partition with rw access if you want to write there.
If it dont work the first time turn off the Tab and try again

Unfortunately Z4root was removed from the marketplace (again) yesterday. It was there in the morning but gone by the time I received my AT&T Galaxy Tab in the afternoon.
Does anyone know if Sideload Wonder Machine might work with Z4root on the AT&T GT, or another way to get Z4 on my Tab?

att tab blocked 3rd party apps need to use one click or flash euro rom on first
Off to work, I will give one click a try when I get home-thanks
ive tried that , ive used adb and root explorer neither of which actually give me access, adb just fails and root explorer says its r/w but everytime you do something it says its done but if you refresh the directory its still the same. I tried z4root, superoneclick root none seem to work I even restored my tab and started over but still no r/w access. This is my first attempt at rooting so maybe im doing something wrong but from what i was told it seems im not
I think you need to allow "Unknown Sources" under Application Settings. Try turning that on and see if it allows you to install.
Thanks
OneClick is working fine.
Please confirm, but I believe the issue is that AT&T has disabled sideloading, where T-Mo and other carriers have not.
I downloaded z4root last week but did not get around to rooting the Tab. Are we now saying that even though I have app, it will not work due to fact that it has been removed from Marketplace?
Will try the root when I get back home, but it sounds like AT&T Tab users are hosed for now.

[edit] - rooting with z4root worked fine. As long as you have it, all is good.
I have an at&t tab and no issue for me since i installed the euro firmware anyway. Up yours at&t!!!

Thanks maxtcee, my AT&T GT is now rooted!
After rooting w/One Click I did the WPA_Supplicant swap on the Tab for adhoc wireless connection. I have Wireless Tether on my Droid2 so now I don't need a data plan for my AT&T Tab!
With 3rd-party rom, can one still use AT&T's $25 2GB 30 day plan? Thanks! -- Kevin
Did you get any errors in the process?

Can you prevent an app update from appearing in the market?

I installed an update of Barnacle Wifi Tether but it crashes my phone so I reinstalled the old version. Every time I open the Market it tells me that there is an update available. Any way to stop this happening?
- use this one : click works fine
- in newer ROM you can select if you want to automaticly update or not
- market options (menu button in market) > disable notifications..
Thanks for the suggestion but I have tried that. My system reboots about every third time I use it. The old version of Barnacle is the only wireless tether app that seems to work. Don't know why: I am running Floyo and, as far as I know, other people don't have a problem.
If you're rooted you can use Titanium Backup to remove the market link

[Q] How to install 3rd party apps on AT&T Galaxy Tab?

I just bought my AT&T Galaxy Tab and like it, but I can't figure out how to install any apps that didn't come from the Android Market. Can anybody help me out with this? My goal is to use my jailbroken iPhone 4 as a modem for the tab instead of buying another data plan.
I'm totally new to Android and know nothing about programming. So, if someone could walk me through this process step-by-step, I would be very greatful! Thanks!
This is my first attempt at an answer, so here goes -
The first step is to ensure that applications from unknown sources are allowed. Go to Settings (Menu key from Home screen) and then select 'Applications' and ensure that the 'Allow install of non-Market applications' is ticked.
From there it should just be a matter of downloading an app you have found (on a reputable website) via your browser.
Find the file, usually in the 'download' or 'downloads' directory using the stock 'My files' (or any other file manager you may have installed from the market).
Select the file and you should be able to install it from the menu that pops up.
Hope this helps
Att tabs don't have the above option avail. You'll have to root your device, there is a sticky thread in the tab dev section that will give you all the steps. You just download a special program on your pc, connect and press a single button. Takes about 5 min, after rooted there is an option to allow 3rd party apps within the same pc program. Once you've downloaded the program it'll make more sense.
If the app doesn't require the tab to be rooted then you could just either get the apk to the tab by emailing it to yourself or whatever method or install Android-sdk and use "adb install packagename.apk".
As for using iPhone as modem, searc for "wpa_supplicant" in General forum, you will see tons of answers. I dunno if it will work w iPhone but I use the tab with Nokia and it works.
Another question
Okay. I'm still kind of new to the forums as well. Can you tell me where the "sticky tab" thing is? Sorry to be such a pain, but I'm still trying to figure this stuff out. I think I'll be able to figure a lot of it out once I can get it to let me install the 3rd party apps.
Wonder why AT&T blocked that option? I thought that was the whole point of Android- to allow everyone to modify it as they wished? I'm sure it's so you'll have to buy a data package from them. As bad as I hate to say it, it was a LOT easier to jailbrake my phone than it is my Tab.

Install the app on your pc. First use option 1 and Root your Tab. Second choose option 4 (Allow Non Market Apps) and your done. You can test it by either trying to install an app from a link off a website (such as here) or directly from your SD card. Both will now work just fine. I also am running an AT&T Tab and this worked fine for me.
You can just put your iphone sim card in your tab and get 3g data. If you want voice capability too, you will have to flash a rom that has a phone dialer. Roto JME thread is a good place to start learning this business.

I tried rooting it this way, but it won't work. SuperOneClick gets to a point and says "waiting for device" and it just sits there. I've tried having the Tab in USB Debugging mode and out of that mode, but it makes no difference. At this point, I'm about willing to let you remote in to my laptop via TeamViewer and see if you can make it work. lol I'll keep digging through here and see what I can come up with.
How long did you wait while it said "waiting for device"

If you have not installed the usb driver for the tab using either android-sdk included driver or installing Skies, I don't think SuperOneClick will detect the tab.
You could try the Sideload Wonder Machine.

Quattr0 is correct. The issue is not with the app but with the drivers. You need to install the usb drivers to allow for a successful connection.

That may be the problem. My PC doesn't seem to recognize my Tab, no matter if I try it in Windows or Ubuntu. Where do I get the drivers or Skies software? I've tried to find it in numerous places, but I'm not finding any for the AT&T Tab.
Also tried taking the SIM card out of my Mercury USB modem and installing in the Tab so I;d have totally unlimited data, but it wouldn't work. Haven't tried the one out of my iPhone 4 yet.
There's a link for the drivers on the superoneclick post, if you don't see it just goto the samsung site

VPNC Widget + Social Hub + Clockworkmod

Hi there,
I have been a member of this form for quite some time now.
I just got my Galaxy II and i am in love with it, however i got some issues.
As you can see from the title / subject (3) issues.
I will try to be brief.
Status:
--------
My Phone is rooted correctly
I have Superuser
I have 2.3.5 installed
The phone is not branded
I am in Germany
I re applied the secure kernel so i dont see the yellow triangle after the
rooting.
For more info regarding my device let me know.
1. VPNC Widget
------------------
I got it to work perfectly. I am using it with my Fritzbox (a common german router that does pretty much everything, including VPN service)
My only trouble is: It does not working over 3G.
Can it be the fault of the ISP, can i check the port maybe if IPSEC does not work ? I mean i tried Firebind to check the IPSEC port but it did NOT fail
so it is open. Is there maybe anything i forgot to set.
As i said i can go to a hotspot and it works fine, friends router, also fine, anything over WiFi works great.
2. Social Hub
---------------
I love social hub it includes my accounts
as in Facebook, MSN messanger, google talk, Work exchange server
My problem here: Google Mail (not app). It works again over WiFi but not over 3g.
HOWEVER, it does work over 3G with the Google Mail app.
I dont understand why i would have to setup the google mail account again
in Social hub if i already have it set up in the Google mail app.
But i tried and it gives me two different errors.
A. Over Premium it gives me failed to connect
B. Without premium it gives me cannot safely connect to server
Another remark or WiFi point B. works fine, IMAP does not.
Can it be that the google mail app is already using it and that is why a double connection cannot be created ?
3. ClockworkMod
-------------------
I installed ROM Manager just fine.
I updated and flashed via the GUI on the phone the first button in
ROM Manager the clockworkmod. This copies a update.zip in the root of my internal SD card. I then proceed to turn off the phone and use the
(Vol. UP + Power + Home button) to gain access to the blue menu.
Here i select install over SD card the zip.
Then i select the update.zip and it fails giving me a signature error.
This does not work i tried it over and over again.
Do i have to use Odin to actually flash the kernel patch for Clockworkmod.
Does this affect anything else ?
I know this is a lot of stuff but maybe there are smarter people out there besides me, i have been browsing the internet for solutions but found nothing useful for any of these. Suggest something to me and i will let you know if it worked.
I appropriate any help.
Thank you much.

Just a short update. Docile hub has nothing ti for with my issue. its the email client its i trI'd it with droidmail. Everything worked fine.
Wife and 3g ... So there is no fix here 4 for sure
The vpnc i still need help with as well as the clockwork.
However it seems quit common for S2 users tl have to copy a downloaded zip with clockwork mod into the sd card. Slowly it seems k am getting closer
I will keel you up to date
