Hello,
I searched on the market but I was not able to find a barcode scanner able to read PDF417 format.
Is it a thing technically impossible to do ? Someone knows ?

pda camera as a codebar scanner

I've been said the XDAII (TSM500 in Spain) camera is also able to function as a barcode scanner with some specific software. Can Anybody tell me whether this is possible and which is the programmes I would need for this purpose??
The camera's resolution is too low to scan barcodes efficiently. Plus you have no light on the device.

It is possible. But it doesn't work well with 1D barcodes (the type that look like a series of vertical lines). Microsoft had a 1D barcode reader called Aura that was available from their research site. But it has since been discontinued. Aura would let you scan a barcode on a consumer packaged product and then go out to the Internet and get details about it - product info, mfg, spec's, comparative pricing, etc.
There are also numerous SDK's available to build your own if you have the money and coding capability. But as noted in the previous post, 1D barcode scanning doesn't work very well using the camera from a phone. Requires a good camera (usually with macro capability), good lighting, and a steady hand.
However 2D barcodes are another story. These barcodes aren't nearly as finicky as a 1D barcode, and many phone cameras (even crappy ones) can easily read a 2D barcode. Only problem is unless your in Japan or that part of the world you won't find too many of them available. But if you want to check out what's possible look into iNigma and QuickMark. Both have decent readers that run on WM. There are many other 2D readers available for phone platforms, including Java, Symbian, etc. But in my experience the Java readers don't work well (if at all) on WM.

Searching for Barcode Reader SDK

Hey i am working on a project in my university about connecting online shopping features to the real life store experience.
I´d like to get access to the camera of my mobile phone (Touch HD) and scan for a given code. at first it doesn´t matter on which way. Java or .net Application.
Afaik all the available readers can´t be refactored to send the scaned code to a special website for example.
Type of Code (1D/2D QR or something else) doesn´t matter in first step
Maybe anybody of you can help me
thank you very much

Have you looked into ScanLife? It's not exactly what you're looking for, but might be close enough.

Barcode reader

Guys
I want to use my XDA Orbit II to use it as a barcode reader. I found out a barcode reader that reads from an image but it is tool slow. Now I found this http://www.socketmobile.com/products/handheld-computer/accessories/series3/ but this works only on SD. Now the HTC has a microSD slot. Can I use something to use this device in my O2 XDA Orbit 2?????
Thanks
I use in my iolite this one and it works fine:

Ciao!
Ok Thx
However I would need to run an application after the barcode is read.
I dont know what you say ... If you read a barcode and it goes you to a website (for example), you follow your "work" at this web or other app, but ... why do you want read other codebar?
At any rate, i think that the app run under the browser or the new open app.
Regards!
What I need is the following.
I would have a ticket with a particular barcode. The PDA will then be used to read this barcode check whether this barcode is valid, by connecting to a database, and then returning whether the code is valid or not.
I will develop the application myself on .NET compact framework that will interact with my database.
I am trying to find several solutions. For example there are bluetooth barcode scanner that scan the code and then send them to the paired device, or else I use an SD barcode reader. But in this case I would have to buy another PDA that has an SD slot.
Thanks
Bffff, it is more complicated that i known ... then i think that i cannot help you, sorry and good luck!
newera: You said that you want barcode reader. But you also said, you want that barcode reader to trigger another external app. This might be a problem and you must use some reader with API, for example QuickMark Barcode Reader. Maybe it will help you.

Smart reader and MS Tag reader - what are they for?

Hello I have these applications in my Omnia II and I wonder what shoud they do. Smart Reader seems to be OCR, but it produces just junk and random characters:-\ It has 4 functions - business card (this one seems to work), document (just random characters), translation (haven't tried yet) and picture (what this is for I don't know)
Then I have also that Microsoft tag reader, but when I start it it seems to have problem with a camera and is just showing scrambled flashing colours no matter where I aim the camera
Is this meant to be used for reading QR codes?
Smart reader OCR did work for me.
Its good enough considering its only a PDA phone.
Hope you find it useful.
MS Tag Reader does not work with the OMnia 2. I have the same problem you have. I have brought the problem up to MS and they say they are working on it.

[Q] QR Code Reader [Module]?? is this available for development?

Hello everyone.........I have an idea to create an Android App....and one of it's function is to read QR Codes... so..
My Questions:
Is it easy to "include" a QR Code Reader as in, to be precise... is it as easy as just including a module which will do everything.. or will my developer have to code it from scratch ?
also...
Are there any licensing process regarding this ?
& finally
How easy is it to develop this on other Smartphone (iPhones, Blackberry) Platforms ?
Thank you in advance!!!
