Now we know about the write block the phone has so that we cant achieve perm root.
IDK if anyone has seen this official tmo statement saying that it was done purposely to "protect the user from harming their devices".
I just ran into this: (again its old so idk if anyone has seen it)

[Q] Root Block: Intentional or Bug?

Cyanogen is saying its a bug. Tmo is saying its a feature. which one is correct?
If it is indeed a bug how would tmo go about fixing our phones? mass recall? sweep under the rug?
If its a feature, is it a precursor to what future phones will be?
Either outcome isnt very good for the consumer and may lead to lots of lost customers for tmo. Specially after tmo releasing a statement that its a feature of the phone.
I love this phone, the very first smartphone i ever had, and was really looking forward to hacking around with it but its hard to justify such a device that locks you out of such features. I hope cyanogen and all the other great devs work out a solution to this problem. I dont want to send it back.

People are being jerks for sure, but OP, you should search better cuz your question has been answered in several threads. The short of it is NO. It is not a bug in the sense you are thinking. It is an intentional bug which tricks linux (android os) into thinking writes to the system files during root are being made when in actuality, the writes are only being written to cache. Once the cache is cleared during reboot the root access is erased because it wasn't actually written to the system in the first place. It's not a bug that needs to be fixed. It's a bug that was placed there to fool the system and make permanent root more...challenging.

There is a very informational Wiki out. Check it out. It will get you up to date with all the work that has been done towards root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2
The important part of the question.. for me.. is whether the Z has the same bugFeature.
I see one random user saying that they flashed a G2 rom on a Desire Z and nothing more. Have I missed something? Kinda hard to say yay or nay based solely on that.
"Intentional Bug" ????
If it's intentional, it's NOT a bug.

Thank you XfooYen for the info. I did a quick search before I posted(the posting page even searches similar post before you publish them) and found nothing similar. I will make sure to search more thoroughly next time.
I am familiar with the current situation with root, I just though that if a well known developer like cyanogen thinks that its a bug that maybe the readers of xda might want to discuss his possible ratonale for such a statement, then again that may not have been what he was trying to say and got it misrepresented by the media. Instead I saw nothing but irrelevent and pointless posts. For a second I thought this was gizmodo or engadget.
Thank you again. Its good to know that xda has readers who actually know what they are talking about and not just the average troll.

Actually, you're wrong.
RT @cyanogen: @garok89 yeah, and the statement tmobile made is technically wrong. theres nothing that restores the phone, its actually what i'd call a bug

Agreed. This is XDA. In the years I've been here, there was never this much flaming and douchery as there has been lately.

Bare With Me....

I am coming from a T-Mobile HTC HD2, and I have Unlocked the phone, installed several ROM's and Android Build's, but I am getting bored, so I got a Vibrant now, Do I need to Unlock the Vibrant and Root the phone in order to install a Custom ROM? If so, if you could provide me the link to a program to Root the phone, and Unlock the phone, would be much appreciated, and I can go from there, thank you. Please do not flame this, obviously I know what I am talking about.
Read the bible and all questions will be answered. Basically do not be lazy and do a search its all here the info you need.
Cheers.
that sounds sexual

Anybody notice there are two of these threads?
You do realize you posted the same thread 15 minutes before this one. By the way you are getting flamed in that other thread for not reading sticky threads. They are sticky for a reason. The one in general and the bible have pretty much everything you might want.

doesn't matter
It doesn't matter whether you are a noob or know what u talkin....
Anytime you create a new thread in the Dev section(twice!!) with such a basic question....you are asking for it....search man search!!
Mods please move....
You should be searching, but ignore the a**holes, just in the future make sure you check out all stickies and abuse the search function ( and NEVER double post, because then even I wont feel bad for you)...otherwise you are welcoming the douchebags to come out from under their rocks and prey on fresh meat
to answer your questions, you do not have to "unlock" the phone. Just root the phone in order to obtain Superuser and Busybox. Install "OCLF" from the market, this is the easiest and fastest way to root your device. And from there just read up on ROMs/Mods for yourself to see what you want. Most ROM threads have specific installation instructions, good luck.
This phone is so easy to mod, its silly. However, sometimes it can be TOO easy, in the sense where if someone gets caught up in the simplicity and starts rushing, you may miss a small detail that could cause major setbacks. Its happened to the best of us, it doesnt mean you dont know what youre doing, it justs means your enot reading carefully. So no matter how simple something may seem/sound, always make you read carefully so as to prevent issues that will cause you to post/panic like crazy.

your phone is dead I'll give you $20

equivalent to jailbreaking

i read a thread, which i cant seem to find any more, about 'rooting' your android so that you can download any app for free.
there was two ways i read that it can be done, 1)downloading this app in the market, then just clicking a button in the app which then 'jailbreaks' or 'roots' your android and 2) installing it via USB..
does anyone know what the app is called?
or if someone can recall where this thread is, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advanced!
Ummm no.
Getting things for free is not what we like to talk about round here (if you exclude ROMs etc ). It is sometimes known as warez... or even theft.
Rooting is nothing to do with this. Very simply, rooting it is the process by which you can gain administrative access to your phone and enable options and configurability that you otherwise couldn't get. It also allows you to install certain apps that do not work on non-rooted phones. Most of the Android ROMs in the HD2 section are already rooted.
Ummm okay. Don't know what the above reply was about. You're looking for this (or similar)...

the reply that you mentioned is about the comment the OP made about thinking that you can get any app for free when rooting, nobnut was just mentioning not to ask about getting free paid apps.

Anybody that reads a tech website knows about it. Samsung's already put out a press release acknowledging the problem. When it's fixed, I'm sure they'll know about it before we will and put out another press release. Nothing's going to hijack your device that you don't allow. Don't visit sketchy websites, download iffy apps with a low number of users, and don't accept certificates from website's you're not comfortable with. For the time being I'd disable "Unknown sources" in settings and enable "Certificates" in the browsers security settings. Samir pointed out earlier the naive could get in trouble accidentally. We here aren't naive.
May be i used the wrong word what i ment was an normal user who is a layman when it comes to tech and believe there are many on this site to who come for advice.
Will i still be able to update to the jellybean ota after this root method?

I have it temporarily rooted, it loses root upon reboot, please wait until I can get a script working. I have been granted temporary root via camera. It grants temporary root via USB Debugging turned on with MTP and all that turned off. I have been able to remove VZW Bloatware... no luck on bootloader yet though.

If what you claim is true you should contact jdevs and take his help... I am sure, he can work his magic even with temp root... I doubt it though... Cuz u can't remove bloatware with temp root... So either u don't have it or u have permanent root! But again doubt that! No offence though..

Just because someone has 4 posts, and not known DOES NOT mean they are not capable of rooting a device. You are so quick to shoot someone down, if it is a fake, let it be, we don't need to here this comment every time someone claims to have found something... This forum is a discussion for who those who are interested in experimenting with their devices, no need for trolling just because someone has 4 posts and hasn't posted screenshots. If I were to discover a potential rooting vulnerability, I would not be posting screenshots, and I definitely wouldn't have the posts.

So a few things:
1. You have no way knowing if its true or not yet.
2. Didn't you drop the Turbo? Why are you even here if you don't have the Turbo anymore other than to make such trollish comments?
3. This won't be the first time someone who doesn't live on a forum accomplishes something like this.

So a few replies:
1. Deep down, yes we do. Whether you want to admit to the truth is another story.
2. Maybe get your facts straight on my business - let me enlighten you: Never had the Turbo. I'm smart enough to not buy a phone that is so locked down when I want a phone with root and/or an unlocked bootloader. If (not when) that ever happens I'll consider getting it, but chances are the '15 models are going to be out by then and the Turbo will be considered "an older phone". Right now I'm just following along on the (lack of) progress with rooting and keeping everyone in check with reality (or "trolling", if that's how you want to put it).
3. Unrelated since it isn't happening with this guy. I'd bet money he goes away just like the "VZW security rep" did in the bounty thread. I'd give you the link to his area in that thread if you don't remember him, but I'm not sifting through all the bs posted over there to find the exact location.

Lol, maybe, but seems an appropriate response for someone going on a rant, wanting really hard to believe that this guy ACTUALLY temp rooted this phone after I called the "rooter" out on his bs. Screenshots, images, pics of the whole phone, something would be better than just "Hey guess what, I rooted it."
Don't get me wrong, I'm not voting against the phone being rooted eventually. I'm just less inclined to creme all over my keyboard without some sort of believable hard evidence.
