I found this short animation at Vimeo.. its pretty cool. Would there be a way to somehow incorporate this into the phone? What resolution does it need to be and what format? I can probably convert it with Premiere Pro.
http://www.vimeo.com/14800845
That would be a great boot animation....Hilarious.
I looked around real quick and found this:
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/04/13/how-to-create-a-droid-custom-boot-animation/
that would make a sweet boot animation, or even live wallpaper.
Been playing around with this video from the link above.. uploaded as flash for now. Gotta figure out how to make those several .png files like the stock boot animation though.. Is there another format other than png's that will work with the boot animation?
I'm thinking this should be moved to another thread.
I would love to have that as a boot animation!!
Droid eating apple bootanimation
I fooled with it a bit, there are almost 400 frames in the video (far to many to use for a boot animation) so I slimmed it down to 100 frames and used jpegs instead of pngs. It still came out to about a 4meg file but that's not to bad.
It didn't come out to bad, here is a reduced size gif to show the end product animation. The animation below will pause for 5 seconds at the end and then replay, it does not loop on the phone. There is a small loop of the droid after the animation.

Thats stranges, I got about 204 frames out of that entire video I made on YouTube. .gif of course.
I tweaked it a little more to be portrait. And added the HTC logo.
think you could upload that file?

No I haven't, not exactly sure of the process in doing that. Just hoping someone else could work with what I came up with.
Can I download your source files we need frame by frame png files. Once we get those building the bootanimation file is pretty easy.

Nice work guys, wish I had the know how to finish it
Alright guys I had a little time today and this is what I got.
This is my first shot at creating a boot animation and I may try to clean it up a bit later, but I have no idea when I'll be able to that. So here is the link to the bootanimation.zip and the DROID sound file.
http://www.4shared.com/file/RnmPd-ZA/Andro_Eats_Apple_bootanimation.html
For Root Users: The easiest way to install is copy both the bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 to your SD card. Then use Root Explorer to move the files from the SD card to /system/media/ You will need to change the permissions of the folder before pasting so click on R/W in the upper corner. So thats it just reboot your phone and the new boot animation should work. I have only tested this on my incredible and can't be held responsible if something doesn't work. As always just do a nandroid backup and you should be safe.
Nice work, but,,,,,,,;-)
What I would reeeeeeeally like to see is an android chewing up an Iphone and spitting out the pieces ;-) hehehehe
Great job ctinsley! How many frames did you end up with? Have you figured out how to incorporate the "droid" audio into it?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Are there any changes you want me to make? I think I can render a smoother video by using a sequence rather than flash.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I got about 204 frames from your animation and I took another 20 frames from the froyo incredible boot. I have it running at 18 frames per sec right now I was going move that up a little bit to see if I can get the animation to complete, since right now it cuts off (the xda developers word don't fully disappear) I think the frame rate might make it smoother anyway. The Droid sound is there in the video but I might adjust it a bit since it goes off right in the middle of the animation. Honestly I don't have any ideas for the animation itself I think its great but if you choose to change it ill try to package it up also for people.

Responsive rom. I agree the red looks pretty good too.
Pros (for me): Speed! Fastest i've seen of this build.
Cons (for me): intro+weed = unattractive.
camera doesn't work. (haven't been able to use the camera with any Sense builds thus far)

I currently don't have a data plan so i will have to figure out how to download apps and install them offline. I'll first need to find ASTRO online, but how will i install it without a file explorer? I am very new to Android, but i couldn't find any file explorer built into Android.
I am also trying to find info on exactly how to partition my SD card using the EXT2 method. Getting lost along the way... but learning as I go
Thnx for the tips and the excellent build!

just place the app in a folder called "AndroidApps" in the root of your sdcard and it will install on the next boot into android.

i tried to run on the vogue but i get stuck looping at the canibus screen ive ran other builds fine but cant get this one working
Had the same problem until I realized my resolution was set for 320x240 and density of 120. Changed to the correct resolution and lcd density and it booted first time. Also, if you're using another hero data.img you might get this issue as well.
so i booted this rom regular, without doing the ext2 backup, and it actually is really stable so far. it runs smooth most of the time. have a bit of trouble sometimes here and there on the home screen, but a very stable build. i love the red, kinda makes it looks like it was build-in on the xv6900.
this is a nice rom, i was wondering tho where i could get a package with the the lockscreen slider that is in this rom please

Strange, I am unable to load it to ex2. Getting mounting errors. Is this the same for you all?
ok so i was just wondering wether this is just my problem or not, i work on a dairy farm so i tend to use my phone for an mp3 player up to 8 hrs a day , i have noticed a bug/issue with this rom and and sensehero 1.3.3 and zens 1.6 donut build and a couple of others ( sorry cannot remember there names ) that when playing music ( headphones ) and i recieve a phone call my phone firstly wont play a ringtone and then reboots lol, have done some testing and at the moment this rom HeroZenMagic--102309--system is the one im using as this rom dosent seem to have this bug. How do i go about narrowing this problem down, or better yet what is causing this issue and how do i fix it?
I'm stuck at the Cannibus screen too. 320x480 @160 using latest basefiles. (Non EXT2 or NAND), running from sd.
OK so you're using adfree or a custom hosts file to block ads.
Great but, now in place of the ads theres an upside down green android and a bunch of crap about the webpage being unavailable!
This isn't always true, but an example is youtube.com
Try going on there with your phone and there should be two or more spots where the frame tries to lead you to a hosts banned location.
This results in a bunch of webpage unavailable errors.
So what I did was I edited the html and optimized the android guy (transparent background) so it only shows him, but no text!
With this update when your browser tries to access an ad that can't be loaded you'll get this.
Heres an example of this on youtube (much more elegant huh?).

Visiting an actual page that doesn't work will give you this.
I think the best part is that this is also true of ads within apps.
Instead of a never-ending load symbol or an actual ad you just get a cute upside down android guy. See below.
Just flash this over your ROM.
Tested only with DC 3.2.3, but should work with most/all roms.
I am not responsible if this causes your phone to explode etcetera.
Note: Replaces framework-res, could kill themes..
Good work! good work! Thank you!
You should add a readme.txt file explaining installation though
Nice idea. I am trying this out most definitely. Much cleaner.
Edit: Hmm, noticed that this replaces framework-res.apk. This will change themes installed on the phone. Maybe a MetaMorph for this would be a better idea?
Good point, hadn't considered that. I have never used metamorph, ill look into it though..

It would play nice with the plethora of customized themes out now.
I simply just looked at what you changed, pulled my framework-res.apk, put your files in, and pushed the framework-res.apk back in. Worked like a charm.
Sorry for the double post, but xda app won't let me edit in attachments. Confirmed, and it is aesthetically awesome. Thanks again.

Wow man I hope you can get this to work with themes. I would hate to break my custom theme on my evo.
I flashed this over DC 3.2.3 and it didn't work. Did I miss something?
Never mind. I'm a dumb-ass.
I never get the annoying android cannot find image, I always just get a spinning wheel where the ad should be.
If you can't get it working with your theme, link me to it and ill put up a working version.

This will replace that with the static green Android image.
I prefer it because the loading sign is distracting and misleading.
Try YouTube. It always gives me those errors.
Also note that this isn't going to work with every ad and its not supposed to.
Only with those which try to access a blocked url
Will this work with CM6?
custom ROM not an option here
niiice
how can this be had on either
Droid X: froyo OTA
or
Droid X: gingerbread .602 OTA
is there perhaps a loopback proxy app that I can run analogous to the windoze application: eDexter (used with hosts adblocking)
proxomitron for android?
eDexter for android?

Same here. And it looks like from your screenshots, flash is blocked. I don't get that same screenshot, even on the latest adfree with latest hosts update. My loading of youtube shows everything.
On my previous phone the evo i noticed the evo had the android phone app as the default phone app with the cool looking android robot when ever i made a call or get an incoming call. For some reason the epic phone app just don't appeal to me at all. Is there anyway of changing the phone app so i looks more like the android default app?

Download the icon he posted (or any icon for that matter) onto your SD card and then long press the icon you want to change on your dock. Choose change icon and then custom icon. Find the one you want in the gallery and bingo.
Also, if you want to change desktop icons you can do it via Desktop Visualizer.

I think he's talking about the "on call" screen -- if a contact doesn't have a photo associated. If this is what you're looking for-- it's a little more complicated-- would need to be be edited through the framework-res.apk.
specifically, it should be in system/framework/framework-res.apk/drawable-hdpi/ic_contact_picture.png
are you using a specific theme or rom on your epic?
I was going to try avoiding this since its been talked about. But if you are going o modify your framework-res.apk,you can use 7zip to extract a framework-res.apk where the image you want is at,find the image you want,(HD)save that image to desktop. Then open an archive with 7zip (not extract)find the the folder where the image you want replaced is at,now drag the image you have saved to the folder you have opened in 7zip (not extracted)and there you go,no need for resigning the framework-res.apk...I hope that is an easy process for you.

I got a blue android in my theme for the default picture. Theres 2 in framework-res.apk 4 in phone.apk 2 in dialertab.apk 4 in contacts.apk. I might be wrong with the numbers but I'm close and all those apps need the changes made as different functions call for different images
the pictures here are of my theme and are out dated but u can see how my contacts look.

my theme witch is the emotionless beast theme is the screen shots above. i helped thomasskull66 with the mysterious beast and his theme has gray scale android contact pictures. idk if any of the other themes did this. if u dont like either on of these themes i can write up the exact size and locations of each image

If you've worked on the Android Flip clock before then you know how much time is devoted to theming this bad boy. I've put together a nice "Action" that can be used in Adobe Photoshop.
This Action will do the following:
1) Mod the clock digit however you choose. You'll need to create the initial recorded action.
2) After you've created the initial recorded action, the "Actions" will go through 0-9, use your created action, save each digit's upper and bottom half using the correct dimensions on the flip clock.
3) It will also name the clock digits their correct name when opening the Fusion.apk (Based off of EVO & Thunderbolt) I'm not sure if this will carry over to other phones using the fusion.apk
All you'll need to do is rotate the clock digits upside down.
Adobe Photoshop Saved Actions
Change log:
11-12
*Added action to automatically cut and save the background image for the clock tabs. This way, you only have to create the background then run the action to export the two png's for the clock background.
*Includes actions posted on 11-06
Multi-http://www.multiupload.com/GI2VS462EK
11-06
*Started from Scratch by making the actions work from the root directory instead of my own personal directory which people were having problems replicating, including myself.lol.
*All PSD should be placed in C:\CLOCKMOD
*All PNG Output files should be placed in C:\CLOCKMOD\PNG_OUTPUT

It should do. The image descriptor asks for 1 frame a second, so it's up to the hardware/software to do that properly. I've only tested it on an HTC Desire running CM7 though, so I'd be interested if you try it on another combination.
Lots of ROMs come with their own boot animations, but they don't have their own software to display the screen, they're just changing the image file. As long as you put my image in the right place, the boot up software should display that instead.
BTW, the screen size was designed for an HTC Desire, at 480x800. Other phones will display the image larger or smaller depending on resolution.
Thanks for your interest

Sorry, that's not possible. The boot animation is just a pre-recorded film. It's always the same, and can't change dynamically. My second hand animation always starts from 12, for example, and doesn't refer to the phone's clock. It shows seconds purely by asking the phone to show the film one frame per second.
noob question I know, but where can I find the bootanimation file as my ROM's has been replaced by stock android

I bet you it would be, although it would be an app and very comlicated.
I have an app called "live logcat" and it actually shows a LIVE logcat of my system during boot up instead of an animated set of pngs. Using that technology I bet it is possible to display systen time and date too.

If it's unrooted, you'll have to overwrite the original at /data/local/
If it's rooted, just put the new file in /system/media
