It should do. The image descriptor asks for 1 frame a second, so it's up to the hardware/software to do that properly. I've only tested it on an HTC Desire running CM7 though, so I'd be interested if you try it on another combination.
Lots of ROMs come with their own boot animations, but they don't have their own software to display the screen, they're just changing the image file. As long as you put my image in the right place, the boot up software should display that instead.
BTW, the screen size was designed for an HTC Desire, at 480x800. Other phones will display the image larger or smaller depending on resolution.
Thanks for your interest

If you can make full clock with date, it can be useful.... when i need to know time but i have discharged mobile, it only shows bootanimation and shutdown.

Sorry, that's not possible.The boot animation is just a pre-recorded film. It's always the same, and can't change dynamically. My second hand animation always starts from 12, for example, and doesn't refer to the phone's clock. It shows seconds purely by asking the phone to show the film one frame per second.
noob question I know, but where can I find the bootanimation file as my ROM's has been replaced by stock android

I bet you it would be, although it would be an app and very comlicated.
I have an app called "live logcat" and it actually shows a LIVE logcat of my system during boot up instead of an animated set of pngs. Using that technology I bet it is possible to display systen time and date too.

If it's unrooted, you'll have to overwrite the original at /data/local/
If it's rooted, just put the new file in /system/media

I made a super simple skin for my Athena to organize my today screen better. I thought it might be vaguely useful to others so here it is. The items aren't perfectly lined up and uses no images. It currently has the date, calender, time, 5 applications, sms, email and missed calls counters. I may add tabs, weather and other stuff one day.
The skin is the top part:

Neat Ta!
Changed it around a bit, by swapping the date and time, so that it stills shows the time in portrait and then shrunk it to 110 to fit everything into my start screen.

Sorry for the newbie question, but where should these files be put? I've tried dropping them in the Windows directory and then going to Settings/Today to see what appeared. Nothing did.

You can download the skin from rlToday's main page under skin forum. These guys have made a phenomenal program!!!

It is very nice could you please explain the steps you did to make the bootscreen?
I am a newbie so I don't know how things work and I want to change my bootscreen.
Please help!
Regards
Jay
well there are actually 3 screens your phone goes through on bootup.
The 1st is where it says AT&T or whatever service you have.
The 2nd is an animation
The 3rd is the Windows Mobile screen, right before its completely loaded.
This picture i posted replaces the 3rd splash. Save the picture as welcomehead.96.png (make sure its a png file, not a jpeg), and place it in the Windows folder on your phone.
The 2nd animation is a gif file in the Windows folder, but i can't remember its name off the top of my head...i think its animate.gif

Very nice! Can you make the flames orange or red?
well if u can find me a picture that has normal flames, i could definately do that. But i can't add real flames to that, and make it look nice
Hey all,
I'm sure several of us are running ROMs which offer the vanilla lockscreen like below:
[courtesy of Neon87: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751831]

"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Above, we can see the icon represents the 'silent' function.
However, I have seen other lockscreens whereby the icon on the right hand side has been changed to someting else, for example: Vibrate Only [which is what I'm after], or launch Music Player, etc.
Anyone know how it's done?
I've been searching for that too, to change the silent button into vibrate but I haven't found anything yet
I hope someone can help us to change that
I think widgetlocker can do that
I'd rather change it without using another app, like changing something in the lockscreen code
I think it has to be changed in the android.policy.jar file since the fix for the lockscreen is coded inthere , but I don't know where and what I would have to change since I don't know much about the android coding

Sorry to disappoint, I found that screen in either one of these threads, both are a 'post your homescreen' type thread:
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476483
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=665991&page=152
I can't remember which page, sorry. But it will have been in the most recent 15 pages of either thread.
so, i have found from where the screenshot came from.
It's from a member who runs a Froyd Villain rom on his hero and the rom is android 2.2
Now, turns out that in android 2.2 this is default the sliding to vibrate instead of silent (tested it out on the android emulator)
I have downloaded a 2.2 rom version and now I will try to find the differences between the 2.1 an 2.2 lockscreen files and hope I will be able to change it
^ thats pretty good going, nice one! I didn't know it was standard in Android 2.2.
I'm bored right now. School is one month away. Weather is (too) hot for me. So the only thing i can do is study JAVA (and android develpoment).
In the meantime i created this (in 3 minutes )
Aspect ratio is just fine for LG OO devices. If you like it (this pic is nothing special), then just can just "thanks", i can do other resolutions too.

Hi. I could try. GIFs are just compressed pictures.

Nope. He doesn't want that kind of .gif, but an animated one - the keyword is animation, as in "bootanimation".
ok, i get that
That's right
You could create something really nice, like a cool custom LG Optimus One P500 animation, only for our phones.

Thats not bad idea. I will try to do something in upcoming weeks. I am quite occupied right now.
Can you give me link for any "bootanimation".
I simply dont know, which graphical format for animation i should use.
If not GIF, then what? Flash animation?
Well, what about simple "Optimus one" text with fade-in-out effect?
Something like this (crappy try-2-minutes-made-animation ), download it and open in better image viewer than your internet browse (that fade-in-out effecz should repeat endlessly)
http://csko-16.ic.cz/123.gif
You're getting closer, but:
1) you should also add a fade-out effect at the end, so that the animation will feel continuous; now it looks like "skipping" because from full white jumps back to dimmed white;
2) I highly recommend you to output a 320x480 gif. The one you posted is too much for our phone's processing power and it will definitely play in slow motion
But then again, I'm not interested in changing the boot animation on my phone. These are just my advices, if you ever get bored again and feel like experimenting.
Anyone seeing the below weird problem with the facebook app?
I'm running the latest 1.72 version... and after a fresh installation, the news feed screen looks like the image on the left... after I close and restart the app, it looks like the image on the right!
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So my questions: is this a glitch? is the image on the right the latest version design?
Countless re-installs / clearing data / cache doesn't resolve this issue! Anyone got any ideas?
(Im running Android Revolution HD 5.2.6)
Nope, the app is designed to default to the news screen when it is opened. You have to press back to get to the menu.

Sorry - maybe I didn't explain properly, if you look at the screenshots I posted, the news feed screen changes after a fresh installation to the old design...
Yeah, it's happened to me plenty of times; shows the old design immediately after first logging in, then shows the correct version from then on. I assume it's just because their app's rubbish.
it is just new changes to reflect the "updates" from the website (dunno why they just can't leave it alone)

It loads the old version then the new version (rather than just starting with the new one) to reflect changes from the website??

I wasn't saying that's what happens, I was questioning the guy above who said that because it doesn't make any sense.
You've got the current version, with the photo/status/check in buttons (the image you posted on the right). It just briefly loads the old layout on first login for some reason.

ok good - its not just me then
my confusion started because the screenshots on the market page also show the "old version" news feed layout!
