I live and work in Brooklyn/NYC. I have always gotten 3G or HSDPA service. Recently I lost service to where it says 'No Service' but only with the Froyo upgrade. If I reboot, even in the same spot I have full service with a juicy H.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar with any of the ROM upgrades on the HTC Aria or any other 2.2 ROM.
I reinstalled the ROM again and haven't had any issues, but with my luck.....
Cannot wait for Gingerbread!

same thing happened to me. not sure what the issue was but i re-downloaded the radio file from htc, updated the pone and things were back to normal.....actually better.
after the update my signal strength improved. in areas i normally only get E coverage, i now get 3G. in areas i had marginal 3g coverage i now get more bars, etc

Same here.So happy.
I was wondering where I can get the update for this?
I have had huge problems with the 1.5 radio for the Dream (2_22_19_26I) ever since upgrading. I even tried to reinstall the radio, to no avail. I still kept losing wifi every x minutes even though the status icon reported a strong signal, and the only way to get it to work again was to restart wifi manually. I also lost positioning via the 3G/GSM network after xx hours, and the only solution was to reboot the phone.
Anyways, I decided to revert back to the 1.1 radio, 1_22_14_11, which seems to have fixed these issues.
where can i get that old radio download?

Call T-mobile and ask them to check the towers around you.

Update:
Ok, so the old radio did not fix the problems, which means this is either an issue with Android 1.5/JFv1.50 or I have one or several apps installed that is causing this. A possible third option would be a funky SD card.
All,
There seems to be an incompatability between the "current" G1 Radio ROM (62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I) and T Mobile UK's network.
Even though this is the ROM they are rolling out to G1 users via OTA updates!
There are a number of issues including data connections that freeze and never re-connect without a phone reboot, incorrectly sticking to GSM in areas of good UMTS coverage, random disconnections from the data service, and a strange problem with the first SYN packet in most/all TCP sessions going "missing".
Combined with the ever-present problems with their packet shaping and web proxies and it's pretty grim.
TM UK are certainly aware of the problems unofficially - most of their (very good) UK-based support team tell people to lock their phones to GSM only, which does help a lot but is quite frustrating.
Anyone know whether there's a new radio coming that fixes this? Or a TM UK network fix? Or a better work-around?
Cheers
I am using an unlocked g1 on 3 in the UK and I am experiencing the same problems.
I was going to try downgrading the radio if possible but not tried it yet.....
I personally don't recomend a radio downgrade, especially if you have haykuro's spl. Instant brick
The previous radio doesn't work with cupcake.
I do have some speed issues in certain areas but I've not had any frozen connections that I couldn't fix by restarting the browser.. I actually assumed it was an issue with the hero browser, not the network.
I doubt there will be a radio update just for UK users. We are insignificant. As a Briton, you should know this by now.
I live in Carlisle, Cumbria and I have no problems with either 3G or GSM. Well, apart from the obvious lack of connectivity in Lake District
You can see my specs in the signature.
I am also a UK user, Im running a rooted phone with exactly the same setup as Karolis. Im not experiencing any issues either.
So if it's not the radio, it means that you either have hardware problems, or T-Mobile's coverage sucks in your area.
It is some sort of issue between the radio and TM UK- it was quite widely reported as being an issue when the Cupcake update was first rolled out, but things then went quiet. It could perhaps be regional, but it certainly isn't related to signal strength.
I'm aware of multiple people with the same issue .
Well, I guess some of us just got lucky while others not so much.
Did you try going to / calling T-Mobile?
Officially there is no problem - but they suggest you lock your G1 to GSM.
Flashed T-Mobile 1.43 to generic 1.66 which has improved the loud call volume and distortion greatly. But the network now says G rather than 3G are they the same?
Does this mean the network settings have changed. I have selected T-Mobile as the network internet.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks
3G is as you expect 3G, G is GPRS which is deffinately NOT 3G speed.
Chances are the rom you have installed has 3G mode off by default. Open Comm Mannager and you should find some toggle switches, one for data connection, and another for 3G. If the data connection one is on, but 3g is 'off', you will get G or E (for edge), but with the 3G one 'on' you should get H (HSDPA) or 3G
Tlooked through the settings and there is nothing that switches 3G on or off.
Anyone else seen this?
Thanks.
Suggestion:
Flash to Dutty's HG v8, which is based on the t-mobile ROM and has this option (and is much better than 1.66 stock, IMO)
I don't know about you since you are on T-Mobile, and if there is a 1.66 ROM released explicitly for the T-Mobile net, but I'll share my knowledge on this:
I'm located in Sweden and use the HD2 on the Tele2 net. I also upgraded to 1.66 and got the exact same problem as you.
I tried the 2.07 rom and the problem remained, however after 2-3 hours I finally got 3G connection.
The problem is that both 1.66 and 2.07 comes with newer radios. These Radios are the reason I can't use 3G at least. I downgraded the Radio to 2.05.51.05_2 and it all works fine for me now. I don't know if this is operator related or hardware related and hence I'd like to know if the 1.66 ROM you installed is explicitly released for the T-Mobile net.
If that's the case I'll probably need to contact my vendor since I'll probably not be able to use any of the newer Radios, which frankly sucks. Please let me know!
I have the 1.66 on Virgin UK (Tmobile and the 3G has not dropped at all.
Don't know if that helps or confuses ?

+1
Ild rather have the choice, than no choice at all. Dutty's ROM has been the only flashes ive needed since T-Mobile stock ROMs.
The ROM is the latest 1.66 on the HTC website. I asked T-Mobile about it but the person did not really know. They asked if the internet connection was fast, but since I've had the phone it has been patchy. It seems reasonably fast today. We have two other T-Mobile phones, HTC Hero and Samsung Galaxy and both these also show the G and these are non flashed standard as bought.
I'm a bit nervous about using cooked ROMs.

Went over to Hungerford this morning and 3G came up so it must be a network/location issue and nothing associated with ROM 1.66.
Good to know all functionality is still there.
Thanks for all the replies.

As I said, in my case it took a couple of hours (no matter location) and the 3G appeared. Could you do a soft reset when you get the 3G at Hungerford and see how long it takes before you get 3G again?
ok so i have loved core cell v1 for a few weeks now and lastnight I stopped getting service. usualy I get 2 to 3 bars of edge on my second floor full 3g outside. but sometime lastnight I stopped getting service all together. if I go outside I sometimes get 1 bar of service for just enough time to send a text message then I lose service. has anyone else had this issue? im using radio 2.08.50.08. any ideas of what's the issue? thanks.
Did you try to redo your connection set up? I had a Problem with my connection for about 2 weeks. I couldn't get 3g anywhere and edge was a little better. I called tech support for t-mobile and they couldn't find anything wrong. But, it eventually all came back. I upgraded to the 2.11.50 radio, did hard resets and everything that I could think of.
One trick that I could use to get it running for a few mins was to toggle the 3g/gsm setting.
I am in the Detroit area, and I think that these intermittent outages are due to the upgrading for the HSPA+.
bodyman
p.s. I tried 4 different roms and still had the same problem, so it has to be a network issue.

I did have the same problem too, but after i flashed Radio version 2.10 my service is working great now, No more losing service, if that doesnt work try and re-flash the ROM
did you pay your bills ahahha
I noticed that the new radio ruins my reception.
Places where i had moderate reception went to zilch.
My 3G speeds are atrocious when it works, other times it just disconnects and only comes back on when i toggle the mobile internet on and off.
Anyone else notice these issues? I was browsing around and I think this was a problem for when the Desire updated also.
I don't know whether to direct my anger at google or htc. how did they manage to make things on a whole worse with an update.
Mine did the Same with the the Leaked RUU update to install the official .6 update.
After it installed i logged in like normal and saw it was acting up. So i did a factory reset and it's worked great ever since
I've done the factory reset and I'm still getting horrible connection speeds where I used to get usable speeds.
Try update profile.. not sure if that will help..
sent from my Evo
Unfortunately that did not work. I'm on the latest PRL and everything, can't figure what it could be other than the network. Although it's not unlike the problem I was having with my PC recently after getting a new router, download speeds were almost nonexistent while uploads were fine. I just ran speedtest again and I got 7kbps down/>200kbps up. For my PC I had to get a new network adapter. Don't know how I could do that for my Evo.
