It seems from the good work at Engadget that the Nexus S will be a stock android phone running on Galaxy S hardware with a front facing camera. If this is the case, and it comes to Verizon as the original was supposed to, it would be nothing to port these roms over to our phones seeing how the alleged hardware is exactly like ours with a camera. We would also see development ramp up as well. Interesting indeed.
Interesting assumption.

I would assume yph are correct. Best buy leaked documents on phandroid say its coming out on Nov,14. Though it will be T-Mobile. That will just give all the GSM galaxy users gingerbread I would assume while we wait til 11/11/11 to get froyo.

Slim to none. Just like Verizon and Sprint were gonna get the N1 but ended up with "like" devices with "comparable" features in the Incredible and Evo.
Verizon will likely not ever have another developer phone(d1 was/is) because they can't control what goes on it if it is like the N1. They want to have complete and total control over their phone.

There is no way this phone is the same hardware as the galaxy s..........for one the camera is different, the flash placement is different and so is the speakerphone placement!!!
Lets get realistic and sad our phone is official outdated.....the nexus is the standard for android!!!
I hope im wrong!!

This phone is petty much standard hardware. I don't think anything past 1.0 GHz is released yet by anyone.

One of the posts on this phone connected to flckr. They looked up the model number of the phone and found pics connected to it rated at 5 mega pixels. Same as our phone. The screen looks to be the same size and allegedly samoled. Even if it was just a developer phone, we could always pick and pull what we want from it, just like we so from the other galaxy s variants. It looks like hardware wise, we aren't going to be much different. It's been approved by the fcc, a while ago, so theyprobably didn't get a chanceto change much. This is all speculation of course, but it makes sense.

I was thinking of migrating to the merge or inedible hd if this turned into too much of a fiasco, but this has me very curious to see how this will pan out. Google's sort has proven much different than samsung. Extended my patience a bit.
(Q) All over the web I see specs on the vibrant that say FM tuner, same as the i9000 spec. I spoke to tech service with samsung and was told that the two phones are twins, I asked why FM was missing from the vibrant and dude tried to refer me to t-mobile app. Never got a straight answer from anyone of the two. Question is if the hardware is the same...would one of you awesome, smart, innovative dev. Hook us up with this ability.
Edit...i have a spare vibrant from insurance claim that is all busted up if someone would like info on the inside parts.

Looks like sprint might be getting a Galaxy S II. Their newest tweet:
"sprint: If you could design a brand new phone, what would it have? Ours will have a hub for gaming, music, pictures and video. #comebackfeb24"

Social Hub, Music Hub, and Gaming Hub anyone?

Will it have a physical keyboard?
Hub is windows phone 7 lingo. That's what they call some of the tiles. They are anouncing the 7pro.

I hope so! I say sans keyboard!

It's either Galaxy S II or a Windows Phone 7.
I feel like it'll be WP7 more because Galaxy S phones usually end up on T-Mobile first.
If it is a win7 phone..damm....I just converted to android when epic came out and I don't want to go back.
If it is the SII, I would still buy it even if it is another sammy product, my epic has been great since day one and I really do like it so I don't have any bad feelings toward sammy.
Too early to announce Galaxy S 2. I agree that it's probably a Windows 7 phone, although knowing Sprint it may just be the Kin 2.

lol you would be a friggin sucker to buy the Galaxy S 2 from Sprint, after what they just put us through with this update. Has everyone forgotten so quickly? /sigh they will never learn. GO SAMSUNG, we buy your **** anyway

HTC officially announced the Evo 4g+. http://www.htc.com/kr/product/evo4g+/overview.html
http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/22/is-this-the-htc-evo-4g-aka-kingdom/
This phone is rumored to go to sprint. Its pretty much the evo3d minus the 3d I guess. 4.3" screen 1 gb ram.
My question is, what would you pick out of the three, Galaxy S II, HTC Evo 4G+, or HTC Evo3D?
Ps. I tried my best to search through the forums looking for a poll like this but the search function was down so I had to do it manually. Sorry if I repeat someone else.

very respectable answer. I may be doing the same thing, who knows!
I'm waiting for the GS2.

I need keyboard phones so Epic is still my choice..
But if I had to choose out of those 3 it would definitely be Galaxy S II! I mean lets rehash..whats the difference between Evo 4g+ and Evo3d? the 3d and the camera? so end of the day SGS 2 still wipes the floor with both of them...
If Samsung is gonna continue being a good little boy and continuing the same trend that they have going with the original Galaxy S line (a phone for all major carriers with minor differences), then I'm holding out for an SGSII with slide-out keyboard. If they decide not to make one, then screw Samsung I'm going with something else. Dual Core 1gb RAM Epic 2 anyone? And please oh please Samsung wait for Kal-El before popping a Tegra in it. That would make my dreams come true

I am aware. But there is an american version supposedly coming to sprint, and the specs are going to be the same or similar to the korean version. Just like most european/asian --> US conversions.
yup, saw the engadget post also...i really like how the evo 3d looks, just not sure about the performance (based on the engadget review) and i really dont care bout the whole 3d thing...i would probably consider this than the evo 3d based on the higher mp cam...unless sgs2 come out round the same time...

After having lots of touch screen problems with my epics (a few didn't make it. lol). I would have to say the 4g+. I really like the sensation 4g because there is no 3d. Bring that to Sprint and I'm sold, and unlock the bootloader of course. HTC phones are better built I think. My opinion don't flame. Also the GPS works flawless (stock), and touch screen works awesome. Better than anything I've experience on the Epic.

What about the washed out, frail screen and the crap-ass camera? Yay, I can view a mediocre version of everything at the same speed!!! Party!
I won't give up on great hardware so some weak-ass devs can more easily create a billion useless Roms. Sorry to them if our guys get it right the first time. They make like a hundred flavors of Kool-Aide and I don't buy any of them. I don't understand why people think that more plentiful Roms=better product. That's what we call false equivalencies.

But really GS2 ... It's only decent Dual core i see this year for Sprint.
I've looked at the official specs and can see no mention.
Does anyone know if the S5 has an FM radio?
(I know the arguments as to why I really don't need one - separate BT headsets, streaming alternatives, etc, etc - but I would like to know)

Is that definitive?
I have read that Samsung were planning on re-introducing it - e.g. here
Can't find any specs on the Samsung website, but gsmarena is reporting no FM Radio
I can understand Samsung dropping features which aren't popular and require additional hardware/software, but they said it was all there in the S4, just not connected and rivals HTC and Sony still provide FM Radio.
Bad move IMO, sure there are a load of commuters and those with bad reception/limited data who will be looking elsewhere.
I would like to see that research data, which suggest FM radio became obsolete, upon Samsung decided to drop it. Still some people look for a device with that feature and its hard to imagine most will swich to online streaming given FM radio option. S4 and S5 are not my picks for current handset replacement.
Thanks for the replies to date.
Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be anything known for certain yet:
Samsung's page gives no indication (link).
PDADB (link) says it has, but then again, it pretty much always says this :silly:
And - as stated above - GSMARENA says it doesn't: link
:fingers-crossed:
From link
Speaking at Samsung’s Unpacked event at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Samsung's president and CEO, JK Shin said "With the Galaxy S5, Samsung is going back to basics to focus on delivering the capabilities that matter most to our consumers,”
To me, FM is a basic requirement and it matters to me. Surely, this means the S5 will have FM?
FM Radio has always been an issue for developers even in XDA to deal with, it's simply too much work for an obsolete technology that only a (very) small portion of users use.
I personally loved it and miss it on new Galaxy phones, but all modern smartphones dropped it and I don't blame them.
I am half certain the S5 doesn't have it.

Well, I use it. I like the idea of a smartphone being an all in one device and my various attempts to use streaming radio are not always useful - transmission breaks caused by data drop outs. Other well-known device manufacturers include FM radio - Nokia, LG, Sony, HTC - even Samsung in some phones (e.g. S4 mini), so why they dropped it in flagship phones like the S4 and Note 3 is a mystery to me.
I did a quick Google, and found a survey (link) with 2145 responses where about 48% of participants said they do listen to FM radio, so hardly a "(very) small portion of users" then.

See post #6 above, I just don't think pdadb info on FM radio can be trusted. E.G. The link for the Note 3 says "FM radio (87.5-108MHz) with RDS radio reciever "

I read somewhere that 4G phones don't have FM radios due to space restrictions. Just look at the 3G and 4G versions of the Galaxy Mega. 3G version has FM radio buy 4G version doesn't.

Maybe some implementations of 4G have this restriction, but it's not a general thing.
E.G. Sony Xperia Z1(inc Compact) & Z2, HTC One - even Samsung's own S4 mini, all have FM radio and 4G. Oh, and all are well-featured, phones from big name organisations.
I've watched a number of videos, read through many reviews, looked v.closely at all screen shots, etc, but still can't find any evidence either way. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing
