how to keep on 2G ? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I tried as much builds and radios as I can and I couldn't figure it out. There is a setting for selecting the network band and I want to use 2G (GSM Only) to save battery as I don't use MMS a lot and 2G speed is enough for me most of time.
No matter the selection, it's always on HSDPA (3.5G) and this drains a lot of the battery.
My current setup is:
WM Miri V22 bottom start
Radio 2.15
Android: CoreDriod 0.5 (I like its RMNET connection cause it's the only stable one).
any advice ?
P.S: Sorry if this is answered somewhere but I searched a lot before asking

Turn off the mobile internet?

I had this problem yesterday and some one helped me
Download a program called secret phone settibfv. From there go to the phone and put it 2g . This time it will stick

battery fast drain using permanent data connection (UMTS)

I'm still using original WM6.0 on my HTC Touch Cruise. The reason, to reconfigure it with WM6.1 will take me a while... and as I have only 1 one 'major' issue, I have been lazy...
The issue, the battery fast drain when I’m using a permanent data connection (UMTS). Is there any 'simple' fix for it without upgrading to WM6.1? i.e. register tweak or upgrading only the radio?
Thanks in advance for your collaboration.
you coul´d just try to upgrade the radiorom. But im not sure atm if you need to hard-reset your device after that...
For me, i got better signalinput, so my device don´t had to scan all the time ... i think , but my battery feels like it had been doubled^^
--------
Also you could try to switch the band only on gprs, if thats enough. For ICQ that is okay, or what are you doing with a continous connection ?
That could also improve the battery life
+1 to replacing the radio ROM. It helped me heaps with battery issues.
Dont forget to:
* Enable all power saving settings using 'Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool' http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070
* Always lock your phone when not in use.
* Disable Bluetooth when not needed.
As to why he may require UMTS always on: the Hutchinson 3 network quite often requires that you use their 3G (UMTS) service rather than GSM (roaming)

Huge 3G problems Switching to 2g all the time,

Sup Ppl!! i got a very very annoying problem with my Android rom.
First of all
I am running Radio 2.10.50.26
rom :
Miri HD2 v 17.0 wwe
And I am using the ShubCraft v1.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740963
So, When im in Android i get very poor 3g signals here in sweden and whenever the bar is on 3 or 2 it switches to 2g, and when i try to get it back to 3g it can't find an networks and stuff, it laggs up and doesnt respond, while everything else works normally, only the 3g and 2g category laggs.
If i try keep on trying to fix this the cellphone just shuts down :O
Thanks in advance
Why do people always make new treads, please post the question in the shubcraft forum

3G completely broken! :/

Hi there,
I've got a really big problem with my TD2, since i tried a tweak to increase the lifetime of the battery 3g completely broke. I found the tweak somewhere here in the Forum, but I wasnt able to find it again. I was using the XDAndroid ROM and tried to tweak the connection using the service menu (*#*#4636#*#* in android. setting the phone to "GSM only" should still allow 3g with less battery drain in general) but since that whenever my phone is connected via 3g i just don't have internet. It still connects to the network and also shows the 3g or "H" icon but i cant reach any server.
This happens in WiMo and in Android!
As soon I set up the phone only to use GSM everything just works fine. Already tried every possible setting within the android tool but it jumps back to "Unknown" everytime.
I also tried flashing the radio with the 4.49.25.91 ROM from this thread. That didn't help either :/
My WiMo i flashed to the current energy ROM, too.
I really don't know what to try anmore, if someone have got an idea please tell me
Flash it back to your stock ROM and see if that fixes the issue.
Nope :/
Just more slow and ugly than the energy rom ^^ 3g still won't work.. beside that even when booting to android it wont work, so i dont think it's rom related...
It has to be something about the radio and/or band settings that android messed up and cant be restored with the tools i have.... Maybe someone knows a tool that allows much radio tweaking?
Edit:
Nice, flashed back to energy rom and set up the network type and band again (settings -> personal -> phone) and now it's working again!
Even it wasn't a direct solution, flashing a bit around seem'd to be helpful
Hi,
bad news... 3g is working now, but it's very unstable and slow!
I made some speed tests via internet sharing:
GSM Mode -> Edge ("E" Icon)
Everything is stable and speeds are okay for edge (up to 18kb/s download, that is max. for GMSK?)
3G Mode -> UMTS ("3G" Icon)
Connection is VERY laggy and unstable, sometimes it completely loses connection. Only got a single Test through that messured a download rate of 0.03Mb/s that is even below default GSM and ping time of over 500ms. (Sadly i didn't copy the results)
3G Mode -> HSDPA ("H" Icon)
As long it keeps using HSDPA everything seems stable and fast, i'll run a speed test when i'm back from work (i only have 3g at the town i work) and post the results here when i'm done. Didnt have that much time to test this yet.

[Q] Issue with radio

Hi,
I apologize if it's the wrong forum or if I missed something in my search over the forums (and internet).
Current setup :
HTC Legend rooted, flashed with Azure 1.0.1 (cyanogen 6.0)
Kernel 2.6.29
Baseband 47.26.35.04u_7.05.35.26L
Issue :
For some reason I can't get my 3G connection stable. eg. When I enable Wifi - 3G drops (which is set up that way), but when I disable Wifi 3G doesn't come back up. Even though the settings are correct.
I'm having a hard time getting any mobile data correctly going, it generally requires me to enable/disable wifi and reboot the phone several times.
Basically I've tried factory resets, checking the settings (config of mobile networks too), it doesn't stay in 2G mode, ... I've test with other Cyanogen based roms and it's the exact same issue. Is it possible this is due to a radio being wrong or is it possible it's actually the phone?
So:
- 2G only is DISabled
- Mobile data is enabled
- wifi off
- settings (mobile connection parameters) are correct
- tried different roms
- checked in places I know I should get a good connection (My provider is Telenet, they use the Mobistar network, my previous provider was mobistar. So the coverage should remain the same.)
I am at my wits end and do apologize if this is a stupid question, but I can't think of anything else that could interfere with this.
Have you tried to leave the 2G/3G settings by default? That is, not to disable 2G. It is anyway switching to the best it can aquire, so if you have strong signal you should get allways 3G. I never had these problems with any ROM I've tried...nightly, Azure, RC1/RC2

Quick solution : put one of HTCs widgets for mobile network on your homescreen and as soon as you turn WiFi off toggle the mobile network widget and 3G should start working again . It's a hit or miss though.

Must have used the wrong keywords >.< Sorry. Though thank you for the link, it is EXACTLY the prob I am encountering. At least now I know it's not the rooting that caused it.
About the HTC widget : I've used it, but it's indeed a hit or miss. Best solution seems to switch to 2G and switch back to 3G that way.
Leaving all the settings at standard (and the most recent flash to the CM RC1) helped with the overall connectivity though.

[Q] HSDPA issues on Android

hello everyone!
i'm having issues in the 3G HSDPA network conection...
i mean slow internet conectivity and dissconection...
i have talked to my Cell Operator the say that thier network is fine at my area and i think they are right cause i get full signal and the HSDPA uplink icon
but while using the conection i'm having these issues.
my question is:
can it be ROM/Kernal related? i'm using HyperDroid CM7 2.1.0 r10
if so what can i do?
will the internet will be more stabe on WM6.5?
cause idc what OS i'm using i know how to use them all and all of them are quite comftable to me the reason i use Android is for Whatsapp only since it's not available to WM6.5/WP7...
thanks in advance,
Barak S.

just to inform you that, they said that to me. the signal is good in my house, even looked up online 3g coverage for my area and says excellent, but i only get mobile internet in my house, but when am out and about or even at work i get constant HSDPA (Starts from when i take 2 steps away from front door), which it doesn't bother me considering i use wifi at home, so that might be the same issue your having, IGNORE what your operator says all they can really do is give you apn settings and hope for the best then it goes down the your handset, the only thing that can really stop you also is the radio you have and going by your signature you have latest one, so go the shop or somthing and test it to see if it improves...
I had the same issues for ages signal dropping out all the time and slow speeds I tried all the different radios and roms and everything, I can't confirm because I'm no dev but I think it was down to the kernal I only use the tytung r10 latest with 2.15 radio

is there a 3g survey on the market for your area? because apparently its meant to be very accurate the one i use is UK 3g Survey and tells you precisely how much 3g connection your getting say like 3g 30% 2g 70% / 3g 80% 2g 20% you get me point anyways... look it up

+1.... if still a no go then theirs nothing xda or your network provider can do...
@whynot66 & @LaneyEFC
i've tried Lady MIUI Typhoon CM7 and some sense builds
all the same...
but if it's kernal related then we will never know cause they all use the same kernal version....
BTW can it be Bootloader related? i mean cLK/MAGDLR?

yes it can be if your using cLk
try the magldr version of the rom your using
i will try later on and let you know...
Do you have a MVNO?
(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_virtual_network_operator)
Do you see the roamming icon (R) in the coverage bars?
Check your apn settings in mobile networks. Google the values but the only thing you should change is the mms port and proxy to 8080 and 216.155.165.50 respectively
