How to enter download mode for phones without 3 buttons combo - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi,
It seems that a lot of people with SGS without working 3 buttons combo bricked their phones trying to flash another firmware or trying to fix recovery and download mode. I was one of them. It seems that the only solutions are sending back the phone for warranty purpose, un-bricking with RiFF Jtag or other way. Since all solutions implies time-waste or a lot of money we need a simple solution to un-brick the phones without disassembling the phone. I think this is one, as in attachment. I've searched info about Anyway Jig on web and it seems it's a toolbox for Samsung Services (someone posted here that Samsung Service claimed that changed his phone's motherboard to be able to fix the bricked phone). Also I've found on web that are several boxes that can act as Anyway Jig. So it will be possible for unofficial or small service centers (a lot of people are from areas without samsung support or good service centers) to enter download mode and re-flash a new firmware. I am from Romania and all service centers from my small town claimed that if my phone can't enter download mode can't be fixed. I've send it to Bucharest (I didn't want to send it back to Orange because I have to wait 2 or 3 weeks) to a service center who said that will repaire my phone in 1 day and it will cost me 23 euros. They sent my phone back after a week and after they forced me to pay 55 euros claiming that it was very hard to repair the phone. Couldn't argue them because I want my phone back, and finally it costs me 60 euros and 10 days (repairing and transport taxes). Maybe if I knew about this method I could have my phone repaired in 1 day and with very few money (I have some friends with a small service center but they don't have a RiFF Jtag and didn't knew another method to repair the phone).
I posted here because a lot of people with bricked phones are looking for a solution here, it can be moved in other area if someone thinks so.
And also it would be a good thing if someone can confirm if this method is real.

WOoow. If someone can make a app with this info to unbrick phone, i'm ready to paid.

I don't think an application can be made because a bricked SGS can't be seen by PC. That's why you need a special box who can connect the phone in this state.

According to the PDF, it is via a JIG conexion
Change Anyway JIG option refer to below

which mean you'll need to buy the machine to do it for those without the 3 button modes enabled

Don't need to buy, just find a service center who has one.

Unbrick Samsung Galaxy
Hi my friends.
I'm having the same problem and the solution is a technical assistance with the box "Samsung Any Way Jig Box.
This box can indeed put the phone in "download mode" again.
This will cost me 40 USD.
That's my tip to everyone.

Any idea to find this one, without calling everyone?
Has someone any idea, if it is working also with a Vibrant, T959? or it is different?
Next question: Behind this magic box. can ODIN running? Or must it be a special progger? And last but not least: Does this box need special driver?
Reason for the question: In Germany I 'll received absolute "0" Support from Samsung... No Warranty - nothing ... So it could be, that they can set the phone into the DL-Mode, but they haven't any code to flash ( like the 3Key-Recovery-Fix; it is on the phone and works, everywhere the sun is shinning..)

Does someone has a idea, how the Anyway Jig works? Whats going on, on the line? Does the JIG used the same wire as USB (D+/D-) ?
Maybe we can rebuild this pattern, or how ever with an Atmel to set the phone into the DL Mode ?

Use Riff Jtag is the best way that I found it's very realizable and safe.

instead of stating the obvious
it would help more if you can tell us which stores or service center to go with a working machine (like the guy a few post above)
it would be also beneficial for us all if you have leads to cheap machines or if you have one and offered the service for free
i previously found a website with those machines but they go for about $300 to $500 ... i rather buy a new phone, then resell it after i receive the other one from repairs at those prices LOL
so if you can find one for like $30 then we can all buy it

kies, does some kind of recovery mode even if you plug off the cable when it's downloading new roms. newest version of it. I have encountered this yesterday: even if you're phone has the computer and the phone picture on the screen, which is broken connection, it will let you to put the phone in download mode, even if I did not have the 3 button combo fix. Lucky me!

RIP =(
im like really upset, i dont have insurance on the phone, i just got it and now its gone.. i fell on it and broke it so that doesnt count as 1 year manufacturers warranty does it?
its just the screen thats busted, i can still receive calls and make em (although its hard) so what should i do?
how should i go about things?
its a Cingular 8525
please help
happened to me too, about 3 weeks after i got mine. i ordered a replacement OEM screen from china, but got impatient and sent it to HTC to be fixed. $167.17 later and i had it back. glad i did too - the screen took a month to arrive!
the OEM replacement lcd/digitizer i had ordered was $90 + $15 shipping, and i've never used it. if you need it, i'd be happy to sell it to you...it's just sitting in a box on my desk. i can ship it tomorrow, and you could be back in business by tuesday.
how can i be 100% that its only the lcd thats screwed up? i mean i think it just the lcd, but how can i b sure?
and in the case i were to purchase the screen from u, is it the right screen for the cingular 8525? can u link me info about the OEM replacement lcd
also, r there instructions on how to replace cus i really have no idea how to go about it
your broken screen looks almost exactly like mine did, and i had the LCD & digitizer replaced (it's one unit)...so i'd guess that's your problem as well. it's the right screen for the 8525 - that's what i own as well.
Part Number: 60H00037 / Toppoly TD028STEB1
i had it up for ebay, but some guy clicked buyout and tried to get me to ship it to nigeria but of course hasn't responded or paid...so it goes back up as soon as the required relist wait period expires (7 calendar days).
description/pictures below:

that's the original link, i'm relisting it tomorrow. let me know if you want in beforehand.
as far as installation, does anybody around here have a howto on how to replace the lcd?
or does it come with one, do u advice on doin it myself?

This site shows you how to dismantle. Whether you attempt this depends on how confident you feel and if you have a little technical ability?

i think there is a teardown guide in the wiki somewhere...maybe someone else can point it out. i know i've seen it around somewhere, i'll keep my eyes open.
i would have done the swap myself, but i didn't want to wait over a month for the screen to arrive.
EDIT mikechannon posted the info for you already...thanks mike!
jamiefiedler we were obviously typing at the same time. Just waiting to pounce on poor old trinic101.
Mike
its lookin damn well impossible for me to do that install on my own guys =( this sucks
should i just send it into htc ? and do wut u did jamie ?
that's up to you. if you took a look at the job at hand, and you don't feel comfortable doing it...then i'd say send it in.
then again...ask around. do you have any friends that are good with this type of thing? you could offer one of them a case of beer to do it for ya...i know i'd take a friend up on that offer!
lol nah dude, i dont, none that id trust in doing so, but then again im not 100% sure either that only the screen got messd up during the process so if i were to purchase a replacement screen, buy a case of beer for some1, have it installed and it doesnt fix the problem and leaves me with other issues, ill b quite upset u know?
how did u go about the process in contacting htc and getting a price quote? can they tell me around the cost of the job or is it a mystery til the jobs performed?
thanks for the help jamiefiedler
i documented the entire process on the cingular forums, check it out:
careful with your 8525!
read the whole thing jamie, thanks

as you stated, physical damage is not covered under the manufacturer's warranty. the number listed for cingular is correct for both in and out of warranty repairs.
all repairs are handled by HTC's repair center in austin, tx.
great, thanks jamie, i really appreciate ur active help.. i just gotta wait for a friend to wake up or get home to use their phone, being in college, our only phones are our cellphones =/
1 more thing, not sure if u know, but what tool would u suggest i use to create an image of my phone or just be able to control/see an emulation of my phone from my computer in order to save all on phone contacts to sim and so on?
and or perhaps allows me to dial phone numbers thru the app so i can use the phone for some sort of phone calls?

activesync will allow you to browse your device, and i think you can actually set it up and use it without any interaction required on the phone's lcd.
activesync will also allow you to save all your contacts, calendar, notes, etc., before you send it in for repair. you need to have outlook (full version, not express) installed to sync most of the data. outlook is included on the cd you got with your 8525 if you don't already have it from a ms office installation.
not sure about dialing phone numbers from an external app...assuming the digitizer is still working, you could try pressing the green phone hard button and pressing where you think the numbers used to be.
lol it does work a little.
i keep trying things and have calld my little cusin like 10 times for w/e reason accidentally, twice today while shes in class
and yea im trying get activesync to save my contacts now but i cant find where it syncs them too, im just trying to figure that out while doin calc 3 hw now lol
hence my quick replies cus im eagerly refreshing this forum =)

it syncs your contacts into outlook's contact manager. once you receive your 8525 back, just sync again and all your contacts will return. you can see your contacts by opening up outlook and clicking the big "contacts" button in the left toolbar.
calc 3? yuck...i don't miss that at all.
cool man thanks, i see them in outlook, appreciate the help, i just got off the phone with htc. now i got to go through the hassle of getting this thing shippd now
im actually calling them back cus i didnt get the email she said id get, im thinking its my gmail, so im going to give her another email address... on hold =X ...
and ya calc3, sucks...tryin to b an electrical engineer so i dont have to deal with having other people handling these issues for me
just wish i woulda ran into this problem after theyve taught me a little more in school than the mathematics and sciences
jamie how much did u see u could get the screen to me for? im really considering doin it myself again cus i just realized that it is only the screen thats broken, im controlling it thru soti pocket controller and the screen alignments even working
sooo, curious, u already post it on ebay?
i got class from 5 to 10 so id b responding either before then or after then

Vibrant unbrickable mode (you can recover from hard brick!!)

This was originally posted by AdamOutler and helped me a lot, so i think that EVERYONE who have a vibrant or an i9000 should know about it.
sorry if i´ve ressurected this post but it is too useful to get hidden.

Introduction:
I'm not kidding when I say UnBrickable. Modifying the OM pins means you can boot from USB, UART or MMC. This makes the phone quite UNBRICKABLE. There is nothing you can do software wise to prevent the device from booting into this mode. We are communicating with the unrewritable, efused IROM on the processor. It's the thing that makes the system on a chip into a "system on a chip".I am here now to tell you how to turn your Samsung Droid Charge into a KIT-S5PC110 development board. The KIT-S5PC110 development board is the platform used to develop our phones. There are some differences between this mod and the official development platform. The S5PC110 has a removable internal SDCard and no touchscreen.
Why would you want to do this? When you plug in the battery and connect it to the computer in "off" mode, it will become an S5PC110 board awaiting download of a program to run. This occurs long before anything like software or firmware enters the processor. This is the IROM of the device awaiting commands or a power on signal.
Because it is accepting a memory flash, anything may be put onto the device to perform a boot sequence..... Apple iOS (iPhone4 has the same processor) WP7 (mango supports this processor).
This will be a replacement for JTAG once we are able to make some firmware. How could it possibly be better then JTAG? Let's count the ways....
1. The only part required is a wire.
2. No shipping time.
3. No cost for a box to interface the computer.
4. Permanent.
5. Can be done as a preventive measure.
6. Gives the ability to test new Bootloaders temporarily.
7. Allows development of the entire system.
8. Removes worry about flashing and acts as a backup.
After performing this mod:
Remove the battery, replace the battery, your phone will connect to the computer via USB and await commands. Otherwise it will pretty much act like a Vibrant. See the Special Instructions section.
Modification
You will need:
1. Get someone who knows what they're doing with a soldering iron. If they don't know what flux is, then they don't know what they're doing. You can send me a PM(or email my [email protected]) or Connexion2005(aka MobileTechVideos.com). Note: I do not work for/with mobiletechvideos.com.
2. soldering iron - make sure it's sharp, if it's not sharp, then sharpen it, flux it and retin it.
3. flux
4. solder
5. tweezers
6. A relay (possibly- for the wire within to use as a bridge)
performing the modification:
1. tear apart your phone... Make sure to take out your SIM and external SDCard before you do this.
1A. Remove the screws.
1B. Separate the top case from the bottom case
1C. disconnect the display connector and free the camera and button assemblies from the case.
1D. Remove the mainboard
****VIDEO OR PICTURES NEEDED*****
2. Perform the mod as follows: Replace the xOM5 resistor from the top position to the bottom position.
*OR: remove the xOM5 resistor and jumper the center pads of xOM5 to the center pads of xOM0 or xOM3.
Thanks to ChauncyG for the device board.
3. reassemble the phone.
Special Instructions
This replaces the battery charging sequence. The normal battery charging sequence can be activated by holding power for 4 seconds.
To turn on the device, and operate in normal mode, you must hold the power button for 5 seconds.
3 button Download mode works as usual, however you must not have the S5PC110 drivers installed on the computer. You can use your custom rom menu option, adb reboot download, or use a terminal to "reboot download". 301Kohm Factory Mode JIGs work as well, but you must press power to bypass the S5PC110 mode.
To enter recovery mod, press and hold power for 3 seconds, then hold volume+ and volume- until the screen comes on then release.
Conclusion
Congratulations. You now have a device which works like a KIT-S5PC110 with an OM Value of 29. Now get to developing some serious custom software. See here for setting up the UART output http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1235219

Yeah, and I lost U$100 because i have not seen this tutorial before....
I hard bricked my vibrant about 6 months ago, Odin, completely my fault. I hadn't seen the unbrick/mod yet so I sent it to Josh at mobile tech videos for JTAG. I came across this mod a day after I shipped. I sent Josh a message and he did the mod for me. Outstanding service, I highly recommend it if you love to flash. Don't wait until bricked. If you don't feel comfortable tearing apart your phone and soldering go to mobiletechvideos, quick professional service.

then install new drivers and the programs on your pc to get the special features of it.

Thank you very much. I gave it a read and page 96,97 & 98 relate to component level information and is relevant to my question.
Although, I couldn't find a part number for the motherboard as a whole. May be I should provide more information about the problem I'm facing to help narrow things down.
After a pretty(very) bumpy ride, I noticed that the phone had switched off and wasn't coming back on. I assumed that I had damaged the phone. I put it on charge and a few hours later, to my surprise, it came back on. Ever since, I've been facing these problems.
a. Phone consumes battery whilst in switched off mode. I'm talking ~40% drop overnight.
b. 2g works only via 64K SIM cards. Phone disconnects from the network when I set it to 2g when on a 32K SIM.
c. Wi-Fi doesn't work - I get the obtaining IP address error. From the battery usage stats, I can tell that the Wi-Fi unit is drawing power.
Folks at the Samsung service centre suggested that I replace the entire motherboard. It costs ~ £120, which is a little too steep and much to invest on a 2 yr old phone. Spares and peripherals usually carry a nasty mark up, which is why I'm trying to get one from the makers or others who are willing to sell it for lesser.
Edit: Stock ROM fixed the Wi-Fi issue.

Pages 8 to 16 gives the part and code numbers, although, these are not detailed, without them, you will have a hard time trying to buy online...best thing to do is let a technician at your end, check it and let him tell you what parts you need and than you try and purchase them online with part numbers
from what you are saying it could be a simple cracked board ...that may need some reconnection as it is obviously shorting causing power drain even when in OFF mode .
off course technicians can be tricky, so may need to find someone you can trust

You're right. Finding a trustworthy technician can be tricky. Even when I do, they won't offer any kind of assurance. £120 with a guarantee is starting to appear more attractive than £50 with none.
I was lazy. It's listed on page 9. This must be the part number of the motherboard - QMP01 A/S ASSY-PBA MAIN_GT-I9000B,BRAZ (SVC) GH82-04996A
Online search of that part# doesn't help in anyway whatsoever.

btw did you have root access on your device ? or did you tried anything with custom ROM's ?
if so then I am afraid you have flashed your IMEI Number, there is nothing you can do now. I hope you didnt do anything fancy coz you can just simply return the set to carphone warehouse for a brand new spanking set or since you are under warranty period they will fix it for you or give you new one.
I hope my advice helps you. I might be wrong, so feel free to correct me.
do it bit of research, as far as i know, there must be a way to restore IMEI number since I also accidentally flashed my iPhone 4which removed the Imei. After 1 week of extensive research i got a way to get it back.
Besides XDA has many talents, I am sure someone one will help you

You don't have to return it to the UK, you can call up LG and tell them you have an issue. The problem is, they may charge shipping and may take a while, but you ARE covered. If it doesn't bother you, you can also get IMEI restoration done on the internet remotely through some services, provided you have proof of IMEI and some cash. I would personally just try a factory reset (particularly through Download Mode, which wipes everything but I don't think we have any images for it) or RMA'ing it to LG.

I didn't want to ship the nexus to uk. this is problem for me.
how i can get the IMEI restoration?
i did factory reset 4 times (from the phone). maybe i can do a hard reset?
thanks!
factory reset has nothing to do with IMEI as IMEI is stored in a partition which is not and should not be affected by a factory reset.
It looks like the partition on your phone which stores IMEI is bad or IMEI was never written to it.
Either ways you have to get it RMA from LG as I am not sure of there is a remote service for the nexus 4 yet.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312

BUT, for one moment the nexus show the IMEI! , I turned off the phone, insert the sim. and not show the IMEI.
Anyone can help me?
thanks!
imei Solution?
I may be wrong, but i believe the IMEI number is also located on the plastic protector thing that is on the back of the phone when you first get it. If you still havr the plastic then is should have the number

Please help me unbrick my Mi A1

I decided to go back to stock rom a few weeks ago after using Lineage, I obviously was an idiot because while the stock rom flashed perfectly as soon as there was an OTA update it went into the bootloop, couldn't flash it as the bootloader is locked.
Tried using ABD fastboot but it wouldn't unlock the bootloader, the mi unlock tool wouldn't do it either.
I now have an EDL cable but can't seem to get the phone into EDL mode to flash it. I connect the cable to the PC, press the button and plug into phone, the phone simply goes boots to the normal charging screen that presents when you plug it in whilst the phone is off. Nothing shows up in device manager etc.
Anyone help me unbrick it?

If EDL Cable is not working, try "test point" method. It will definitely work.

Thanks, that was the next step, which did work, but I've damaged it taking it apart. So all a bit pointless in the end!

Not really sure what I've damaged either since it doesnt seem to be a part of the screen or back plate. So not sure if it's worth getting it repaired.
I damaged my phone too yesterday while I was trying to open it so I could unbrick it but I don't care. Having a working phone (the way I want it) is more important than having one with stock Pie in immaculate condition.

It's called "middle frame housing/chassis" which holds all the components together like display, motherboard, sub board, battery etc. You have chipped off the plastic bezel/border of the housing that surrounds the display and protect it from breaking during fall.
It will not affect the functionality of the phone but will definitely make a big dent in your pocket if your phone falls from your hand / pocket.
I will suggest you to replace the middle frame as soon as possible and until then use it with extreme care or with a good quality case.
You can find it on Aliexpress or from your local spare parts dealer. It will cost you around 5-7USD.
P.S. : Don't try to do it yourself, get help from a technician(2-3USD) as they separate the lcd and frame using heat of lcd-glass separator machine.

Thanks, it's okay the price they'd charge to replace it would be around £60 here, even if I supplied the part, I can buy a new one for £60ish on ebay so it's not worth it.
I ordered the Note 8, the plan was to pass thr Mi A1 on to someone but I'll just write it off.

£ 60 is too much for this. Here in India I can get it done at just INR 100 which is equivalent to around £ 1.05
