PS3+Google Tv= WIN WIN - EVO 4G General

well guys i was thinking, now since google tv is out, what you guys think, if sony ps3 could be use as a google tv reciver, i think that would be a big win for ps3, and google, what you guys think>????

thus far google tv is hardware only. would be awesome if PS3 licensed the software thus far its only been built into exclusive hardware

That would totally rock my face off. Google should license to Sony, considering how many PS3s are already out there!

Not to make this a console war thread but I would like to see this on the xbox as well.

With all the 3rd party companies on Microsoft's band wagon (Facebook, Netflix, etc) it has much more of a chance going to the Xbox 360. Especially seeing how many more Xbox's their are than PlayStation's.

Uh, what? PS3 has Facebook integration. Netflix for PS3 works great. If numbers was the criteria of where Google TV should go, then maybe it should go to the Wii first.

Ok, I'm really confused by this. What do you mean by "use as a google tv reciver"? Do you mean have the GoogleTV OS software running on the PS3 or have the PS3 (as-is) plug into the Logitech Revue or Sony TV?
If you mean the former, I highly doubt Sony would do that because the PS software isnt compatible with Android. It runs it's own OS that is needed for it's own functionality like games. Unless you mean, some hacker putting the GoogleTV software on an old PS3 with the "use custom OS" option, in which case, that could work, but render it useless as a PS3.
If you mean the latter, it can certainly plug into the other devices, but I dont see what usefulness it would have. You wouldnt be able to "search" the PS3 or anything.

Erm granted there are more xboxs than playstations, the gap is closing and has been for quite some time... most of the xboxs sold are to replace thier shotty hardware that hs crapped out.
Long story short, there really arent that many more. There are more but not like a huge margin...

Just to touch on the point about Netflix being on the Xbox "bandwagon"; they had an exclusivity deal originally, then branched off to the ps3 and the wii. Now Netflix is bring diskless steaming to the ps3 along with 1080i output, which the Xbox wont have. It would seem that the ps3 has leapt ahead of Xbox in priority for Netflix.
Sorry to go off topic.

No need for google tv, if you have a ps3. short of the apps, ps3 already does it all.

But adding Google TV functionality to the PS3 or 360 would be nice

Now your talking. If ps3 would get if its ass and make some improvements to its firmware.

What? PS3 has had 1080p output and 5.1 from the beginning. Don't assume because xbox sucks that ps3 sucked too. PS3 has smoked xbox from the beginning, right out of the box. Full web browsing, dlna ready, full hd, bluray, wifi, custom os capable.

yea I know that , what I ment is that Netflix on Xbox ,Ps3 And Wii , it only goes 480p with 2.1 sound, but in 3day ps3 would get the Netflix app, which would stream at 1080p with 5.1 audio, the first system to get it from Netflix

Got it. Seems to me that Sony needs to wake up and keep up. They are making Google Tvs right now, but they should be figuring out a way to incorporate google apps and such into the ps3 firmware. That would be tight.

[Q] Xoom DLNA certified or something similar?

Hi guys, I currently have a Droid X which I like very much specifically the DLNA and Xbox 360 sharing features, both of which allow me to wirelessly access my music, photos, and videos from my phone and computer on my Xbox Does the Xoom have this feature or at least does Gingerbread 3.x support it/plan on supporting it?
Also I read in one of the reviews that the miniHDMI out doesn't work directly from the device, rather it needs the dock and then from the dock you go miniHDMI to HDMI on the TV, is this true? (That wouldn't make much sense to me...)
All in all, I have to say I'm excited to be a consumer now-a-days, I'm leaning towards the Xoom, but I do miss certain apps from my Ipad of which there are no GOOD substitutes on android. Specifically, AirVideo which worked like a charm both over wi-fi and 3G and GoodReader, both of which I used religiously. I also hope that Netflix will have an android app soon. Besides that though, I must say if I don't get the xoom, I'm excited to finally start customizing the looks and basic UI, like I have with LP and Desktop Widgets on my Droid X.
Currently the xoom doesn't support dlna. Possibly in the future?
The HD dock is not needed to use HDMI out. Just hook up any micro HDMI cable and it works fine.

Your better off using an actual controller an remapping it for the game. In theory it is possible to do, but I don't have the tools or ability at the moment to do do.

I disagree on your last statement, not everything is console based. Battlefield was designed on an dir the computer, with 64 player support. The console version supports only 12, cause are console can not handle the graphics an physic engines that are used by some mid-ranged computers. Also you don't have to spend thousands of dollars on a computer to play 99% of the games, then only reason why people spend that money is to have the top of the line products. The same could be said to us as well in the views, why would I spend $600+ on a cell phone. You might need to open your mind to more aspects of people views in there areas, not calling you dumb or stupid stuff like that.

But my last statement still stands. In my circle of friends, i don't have anyone that PC games. EVERYONE Console games. So for me to get a computer to play multi-player would be point less. And i'm not saying you guys are wrong either. For me, in my situation, PC gaming is pointless. It's fun playing with people over the wire, and i play Mw2 over the wire alot. But it adds a different realm of feeling when you know the people you are fragging.

What would make you get one?

Hi everyone
I haven't posted / lurked the firums here since back when I baught my original nexus one phone.
Shortly after that the iPhone 4 and eventually the 4s came out and I have found it hard to go back to android ( I liked the simplicity of iOS)
Lately i am getting over the struggle between Apple and the hackers that allow customers do do what they want with their device. ( I always have my iPhone hacked just so I can run the tweaks apple don't provide)
The apple tv pairs quite nicely with my iPhone and I have also hacked that to run plex so I can stream from my pc.
Development for plex on apple tv is slow and usually buggy due to apples restrictions and every update means developers need to wait for a jailbreak before they can continue development..
Which brings me to the point of this post. The nexus q just might be what I need to come back to android.
These are what would convince me to come back
1. Streaming from pc not just from google play ( I believe it's already being worked on / almost done )
2. Plex / other apps like airtight working ( I believe they should eventually)
3. This would be the icing on the cake. Being able to start a movie / tv show that is on my pc over 3G. Eg. Tge girlfriend is at home and wants to watch a movie but is not too tech savvy so I load plex or a similar app on my phone while I'm at work and select a movie from my library that is on my pc at home and it starts playing on the nexus q!
Should these become a reality I would buy a galaxy s3 and a nexus q right away.
What other things would MAKE you buy a nexus q?
Well only two reasons prevent me from buying one.
Nexus Q is not available in Europe
No Music/Movie/TV Shows in the german Play store
So without the ability to stream whatever I want without the Play Store, it is quite useless at the moment. As soon as stable Custom Roms allow me to stream over WiFi and/or run XBMC I'll import one.
I like the Design, the basic Idea and well, Android. I just don't get why Google kind of messed this up by leaving it up to the Community to make this Ball of any use.
I am hoping the awesome devs have this thing cracked wide open with opportunity soon.
As for the leaving it to the community i kind of like the idea. Its like Google saying we trust the community and don't want to influence them one way or another so they gave them pretty much an empty slate to work with.
You can do music. vpn into music.google then it activates.

I have activated music, however I can't order anything since checkout does not let me buy stuff with my credit card. Besides that I'd have to use a proxy 24/7 which slows down everything. That is not the kind of "experience" google wants to deliver and I don't want to have it either.
It is time that Google goes global with those things, can't be that hard...

I say a realistic price would spur my purchase. $99.
Frankly, with my PC connected to my TVs and audio receiver already, and my phone, tablets, etc already able to connect to my PC and/or TV, I just don't see an advantage to this device.
I'm sure the new nexus q will have some awesome features, I'm not sure about the ones you need but the wonderful thing about android is I'm sure one of our great developers will make that all possible. I have the q and I like it, I'm definitely going to need some more features to really love it but what I have now is great... Especially because it's free.
The new one will most likely be cheaper and have more features I think that it will be better than the Apple tv.

Of course. The thing that I did immediately was get SqueezePlayer running on it. This allows the Q to play local music over the network in just about any format (e.g. mp3, 24-bit flac, etc.). Control is handled by an app on your phone/tablet like Orange Squeeze, Squeeze Commander, Logitech Squeezebox Controller, or by pointing your browser to the Logitech Media Server's web interface. Oh, by the way, this also works with Squeezebox apps (e.g. Spotify, Pandora, Rhapsody, Slacker, MOG, etc.). Checkout the list here: http://www.mysqueezebox.com/appgallery
The Q has a ton of potential right out of the box and is easily worth what it is going for on eBay these days - if the user is savvy enough to exploit its potential.
I think the Q was the perfect device for a place like a bedroom where you'd otherwise just have a simple shelf unit (or I do at least). It's more convenient and a bit cleaner than always connecting your phone to the aux input. Plus, it's nice to be able to control it remotely.
The only thing is that it's too expensive. It's priced as a high-end device, but in most of us already have a "high-end" solution for this sort of thing (ie: a PC or similar) which can do a lot more. A device like the Q needs to be [just a bit] cheaper so that it can compete with a shelf unit. Though I realize I'm not the first one to say this.

[Q] What emu are currently running?

Could anyone list them please?
Just get the emulators from the ouya store. They all work great. N64 might have some minor issues on some roms but it's constantly improving. FPSe for PSone is the only one I didn't test yet.
PS emu is fine. SNES plays flawless. N64 plays better then on my MK808. Also started playing some GBA ROMs and work flawlessly too.

Those using fpse. Are you buying the app again after buying it from Google play ? When I side loaded the current Google play version it crashes when I start a game. On the Ouya it actually said Ouya edition after it's installed, so I'm not sure if the apks are actually different?
As a side note the Ouya version from their store appears to play okay, but I'm constantly berated with the buy now spam.

All apk's on the OUYA store are exclusive to the OUYA, they are different APK's, so yes if you want to run fpse on both your phone and the OUYA, you have to buy it twice (or get the sideloaded one to work).

Why would you expect to be able to use two different system's apps together? Saying you should, by default, be able to tranfer all your purchases from your Google based Phone to the OUYA based console is like saying you have 2 windows based computers, buy 1 copy of a program with a single use licence and think you should be "entitled" to use it on both.
Or even better, buying 2 Xbox's for 2 different rooms and expect to be able to get all your content without any work on both.
In both of these scenarios, you can and many people do, but it is technically against their terms of service. WIth Xbox its more like Android in that you can transfer your username, but what about the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One? NONE of your content transfers and there will be no way to get it! At least on the OUYA there are workarounds, much like with 2 PC's.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Google play apps said it was okay to be used by the same individual on an unlimited number of devices. Hence why you can use the same app on your tablet and phone. Where as with Windows the license specially says only on one device at a time. I think this why why people would be upset about buying android apps again.
Let's be honest. When have you ever looked at an android based item and thought you would have to re buy the apps?
Personally, I'm going to just wait until there's a finished cm or other ROM and use that.

To the average user like myself. When I think of open "ANDROID" game console. I think of google android with all its standard google associated services rooted and unlocked. I think of ouya having their proprietary app store of course, but also including google services. That's why google allows you to login with your email and download the purchased game on multiple "ANDROID" devices.
Believe me Spock. When I tell you your logic is most sound. But I, like most people would love to be able to have access to already purchased "ANDROID" apps. Especially the apps that can use the ouya controller. For example an android minipc. Which I should have purchased instead of this. I only bought it for xbmc, which works great! So I don't feel as ripped off.
Again,
I know the business model, but as a consumer, I will not pay 15 bucks for final fantasy on several "ANDROID" devices.
Oh, and to stay on topic. I love the emulation on the ouya. Especially nds4"DROID". Great ds emulator.

More development is coming, but not as fast as we'd want to see. Sony,Sharp, and Philips seem to be putting ATV into their new 2015 TVs. Samsung, LG, and Panasonic are going with non-Android options. Since Samsung is the biggest TV seller, that hurts. It'll be up to Google and Android devs to push their options. It will take time for apps to be developed, too. We're only 2-3 months into commercially available Android TV.
You can easily sell that Chromecast dongle and recoup at least $20. You also should ditch the controller. I think you overpayed for it, especially since the Gamestop Samurai $12.99 controller is awesome.
Using mine as a retro gaming machine via emulators, and eventually will have a fully working 5.0 experience.

It works great. I honestly can't believe I payed $13 bucks for it. It has just the right amount of button and d-pad tension for me.

There has to be more coming in development for the nexus player. I have the Chromecast. Does what I need. Just looking for more of a reason to keep a $150 investment with the Asus controller. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm looking for other users to help me find a reason to keep the nexus player and controller! Thanks in advance!

I just recently started looking at the nexus player and currently have a chromecast and a WDTV so i figured the nexus player combined both? the WDTV is very slow but works well with streaming MKV's for what the chromecast does not do but am looking for more info on this too!
I am looking or thinking of purchasing the Nexus Player. Is it worth the $99? I didn't like the Roku. I am not saying that the Roku was a bad device, just not what i wanted, not for me. Is the Nexus Player any better? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If I were you I'd save my money, and possibly buy the Razer box when it comes out. In it's current state Android TV doesn't have much to offer over a chromecast, except bugs.
I own 2x ADT-1's, and a Nexus Player... and I've gone back to chromecasts in my bedroom. There's just too many issues right now for them to be everyday devices.
Thanks, I really appreciate your feedback as most of the reviews that I've read about the Nexus player have been somewhat mediocre.

It all depends on what you didn't like about the Roku and what you are looking for.
For me this is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a chromecast with a dedicated remote and a user interface.
I used the ChromeCast on my small TV downstairs and the NP upstairs on the Big TV.
Exactly what I wanted then add in some games for fun and it is perfect for me.
The only issue that I have had is that I don't like the Plex layout. I just sideloaded the non pass version and I like it now
I'm trying to replace my 3 WDTV boxes and purchased a Android TV to test out. Kodi is light years ahead of WDTV in most areas.
No more network connectivity issues.
The UI is much much MUCH better than WDTV.
Kodi has terrific plugin support. WDTV has none.
Android TV is FASSST! No more spinning circle.
Where Android TV falls down is video playback. It still suffers from drops frames, which is a big deal.
I don't game so I can't speak about that.
Would I buy another? Right now, there is nothing better.
PS. I need a unit that does native streaming from a NAS and also supports DLNA (PLEX)
Just wondering if there is autoplay when casting from hulu/Netflix. Only reason why I returned my Chromecast a long time ago. It was a pain to have to go back and cast the next episode of something.
