How many/what versions of .NET CF are on your phone? - HD2 General

I'm having an issue with a program & the dev told me to see if .NET CF 2.0 was installed & I found out that only 3.5 was installed on my phone.
I'm curious, how many & what versions of .NET CF are running on everyone else's HD2.
You can find out by 1 of to ways:
Run \Windows\cgacutil.exe
or use a registry editor & go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETCompactFramework & looking at the different registry entries there.
I only have v3.5.9198.0 on the TMOUS stock 2.13 ROM

I am on the same version

REQUEST : getting started with wm5 development

can anyone point me in the direction of some help or a guide to getting started with wm5 dev ?
just looking for a "hello world" level walk through at the moment.
thanks in advance.
WM5 Dev
Get hold of Visual Studio .NET 2005 and examine the example programs Goodluck!
do i need to install the dotnet framework on wm5 or is it built-in ?
cheers
You need Active Sync 4 during development. You may wish to run the sample program in your WM5 device OR using a WM5 emulator. If you chose to run it on your device, cradle your device and VS.NET 2005 will install .NET compact framework on your device before it attempts to run your sample program using your device
thanks for taking the time to answer. i would have thought that the dotnet framework would have been built-in with wm5.
no-one likes to have to install extra programs to get an app to work.
I am not sure with the "newer" WM5 devices out there. I have an XDA II with the first leaked WM5 ROM and it does not have the latest .NET CF...
If you have a WM5 device, verify the .NET CF version you have by running: \Windows\cgautil.exe
i have 1.0.4292.00 installed on my wizard.
how does this compare to dotnet v1.1 or v2 ?
cheers.
I guess it is not the latest version. VS.NET 2005 needs CF v2 in order for programs to run properly.
Hi there.
I'm planning on embarking on PPC development journey as well.
Yet to get hold of VS.NET.
I was just wondering, if anyone would know how the app in the link works:
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=338
Does it link to the registry, etc?
It obviously does not work on WM5, and I would appreciate if anyone could gimme a headstart on working one for WM5.
Thanks!

You can develop .net CF 1.0 applications in VS.NET 2005. Then you don't need to install the .net CF 2.0 on the device. There are some handy things that's missing in 1.0, but almost everything can be done... just not as easy as in 2.0

Topaz Magic 8 Ball Question.

Hi guys,
I have a question about the Magic 8 Ball that was extracted from Topaz. Does it require NET CF 3.5 to run it? Currently, I've just downloaded the files in that post and extracted them to my microSD card. When I try double clicking on the .exe file, nothing happens. Is that an indication that NET CF 3.5 is required?
My THD still only has NET CF 2.0 on it. Haven't figured out how to properly uninstall NET CF 2.0 and replace it with NET CF 3.5 on it yet.
Cheers.
As far as I know Net Framework is not the issue, you are missing some other libraries, which are included in the Topaz ROM.
Btw: You can run both NET CF 2.0 as well as version 3.5!

John,
Thank you for the prompt response. Are these just .dll files that must be in the same folder? Or has the .exe file been written to detect these .dll files to be in the Windows folder?
It'd be great if I could just have all the files in the same Magic 8 Ball folder and run it off by simply starting the .exe .
Cheers.
here is the cab file for you to install it. I would install .net 3.5 as well to be sure

David,
Thank you very much for that. Before I install it, I have a quick question, is this the version which requires the newer Manila? Because I'm still using stock ROM and I don't have the newer manila yet.
I still haven't grown a pair to start flashing the device yet.
Cheers.
is this the magic 8 ball that you get an answer when you shake your phone?
@Poisonwolf - Not sure as i am using Duttys Custom ROM but is dont see why it would not work on any WM phone with Gsensor.
@Brusko1972 - Yes

it should be in the windows folder when you use file explorer. it's a big folder with hundreds of files. cgacutil should be a little more than half way down the list.
mine and my friends hd2 came with .net compact framework 3.5.9198.0 so i'm pretty sure if you have a tmobile us branded hd2 then you will have the same version
net 3.5

Was there on mine. Same 3.5.9198.0 version as above.
"My Device\Windows\cgacutil"
When you are in the file explorer go to menu and make sure "Show All Files" is checked. It showed either way for me but you never know.

Thanks guys, I found It same 3.5.9198.0 version (show all Files)
I e-mailed HTC and got a response.
Hi, I'm Victor, and I will be glad to assist you today.
I do apologize we do not have the information on if 3.5 .net framework comes preinstalled on the T-mobile HD2. To install it you will just need to download it off the Microsoft website and install it on your device. I do apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you.
If you have any other questions feel free to reply. You may also enjoy http://www.htc.com/us/community/, our customer-based forum, which has a plethora of information on HTC devices. I would also like to invite you to participate in a customer satisfaction survey located at http://survey.htc.com/worldwide/. I hope you have a great day!
I discovered that I already had it because I tried to install the one that Microsoft has on their website.
When installing, it failed with "You already have a more recent version" message
that seems to be the latest version out for .netcf 3.5. i do not believe its publicly released. most chefs here cook a more updated version of .netcf 3.5 but its still older than the one your using. Make sure .netcf is active by using a reg editor app then go to HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.netframeworks(i believe) then you should see the 3.5.xxxx.0 something like that. make sure when you select it its dword is 1 and not 0. that is to make sure .netcf works properly.

Microsoft .NET Framework version ...

I would like to know how do I find out which version of Microsoft .NET Framework I have on my HTC HD2 [tomobile]? and if there is a location where I can get the latest build?
thanks
By the looks of your sig, looks like you're running a custom ROM, so I'd assume 3.5 which is the latest.

Ok, so where within the phone I can verify that its actually 3.5.
which version of .net
It's been a long time and no reply. I have the same question. Does no one know or is it impossible to find out the .net version currently running on an HTC HD2?
search is your friend...
i typed in "what version of .net do i have" and yielded this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3477489&postcount=2
is the way to check for sure...
cheers.
cgautil.exe missing
thanks! I looked but can't find cgautil.exe. I don't know if that's because it isn't there or because of the flaky scrolling in the HTC HD2. I'm finding it difficult to believe they issued the thing (the North American version) without .net. Is that what others have found?

i have tmous stock ROM and it is there. and 3.5 came preinstalled.
question
I have the same rom as you 2.10.531.1 (82076) WWE according to my phone. But I cannot find cgautil.exe on the phone. Either the claim that if you can't find that file you don't have .net is incorrect, or else there are two different roms coming out under the same number, one with and one without .net. Anyone know the answer? If not, can anyone with experience loading these big programs tell me what will happen if I attempt to install .net 3.5 on a phone that already has it installed? Will it warn me to stop? Sorry to be so uninformed but this is the first "smart phone" I have owned. Last phone was a Nokia 1661 (you get the idea). thanks!
Hi
if you have a registry editor, you can check it in the following location;
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETCompactFramework
you can get a registry editor from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=347178
also check item 13 on the hints and tips thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
it's there!
That worked. I found it where you said it would be. Thanks a lot!

.Net 3.5...need help.

Ok, I have the new 2.13 shipped T-Mobile ROM on my phone. According to .Net Config, I have .Net v3.5.9198.0 (ROM). By default, .Net 3.5 comes in the ROM. I thought most ROM's did by now. Everyone I have tried, cooked or otherwise have had it.
I was playing around with UI's today. I downloaded and installed iPhoneUI v0.3.5a. I got an error and had to install .Net Messaging in order to decipher.
According to the iPhoneUI dev, he has a version of .Net that he suggests to download and install that he knows works.
The questions are:
1) Is there more then one version of v3.5??? I have v2.0 which won't help, and I also have v3.7 that I could install.
2) If I install his CAB and it's not the same version, am I going to lose my version and have to hard reset to get it back if it's newer? I'm hoping at that point I can just uninstall and reboot and I'll have the old version back.
3) Let's say they are the exact same build. Why would it matter that I install his version? What would be different?
Thanks!
