Thank you, Otter box! - EVO 4G General

I dropped my phone today from the second floor and it bounced around cemented stairs and came to rest on asphalt. I thought it was too much bouncing and sliding, my phone is screwed-better go call Sprint. But alas, a friend picked it up and said, "the cover is hammered but phone looks great, not a scratch". The included screen protector took a beating too. (i swear I don't work for Otter, just happy to recommend a good product).

I can attest to otterbox customer service as well. My wife has a commuter on her moment, which developed a crack in the case near the camera. I called them today, and with no hassle, they are sending out a replacement unit. Good quality+ good customer service=WIN.

I've been waiting for the "DEFENDER" series for my EVOs... They still haven't come out.. But I am happy with Otterbox on my iTouch and iPad. I have the Defender series on those now.. They really do work very well. Specially with small kids always wanting to use my Gadgets.. I had to get the toughest protection I could find..

I loved my otterbox on my iphone...it definitely saved that phones life more than once. But it added an awful lot of mass...which was fine, for the iPhone. I worry that it might be a bit much with the Evo.

Yeah, it does add quite a bit of weight to the Evo. I like aggressive, heavy looking phones anyway so it doesn't bother me.

Which otterbox case was this?

Heads up - these things are awful. I really would suggest never buying them. Adhesive backing is terrible and almost impossible to not get dust / pet hair / people hair on the sticky part unless you have a clean room. I took every precaution to avoid getting stuff between the screen in it.
Hands were 100% clean, the liquid didn't help at all with this issue, the liquid can get into the speaker if you are not very careful, and if you mess up applying it and want a replacement you get the shaft. They only give free replacements for life if the front is damaged while protecting the phone.
Read reviews online if you don't believe me...the HTC Hero version of the InvisiShield is awful. I have read they are decent and NOT adhesive backed for other phones. So far the best I've found are cheap ass $3 for 3 ones on Amazon that are cling stick.
I bought this full price, right when i got my hero...
took it off about 3 weeks later, i hated how it didn't feel smooth at all, overall seemed resistive to the touch.
Just a thought, bestbuy applies them for 8 bucks and guarantees the application. If it were not for this fact, I wouldn't buy.
applying these things is a bit more comfortable than water torture
They aren't too bad tbh, i switched from invisible shield to phantom skin, then i tore that off and just put a normal screen protector on and i bought a full body skin from skinit, so my phone looks sexeh and its pretty protected
just bought a zagg invis shield for my psp slim and my NDS lite, and i bought their zagg sparq, since its 100$ i got it for 50 its a 6000 mah battery with 2 usb ports that give 1000mah each. all in all i spent like 72$ instead of the 150$
all in all its a good skin, it didnt gather any dust or hair or anything for me, i put it on in my kitchen, but i dont reccomend it on a touch screen, like that other guy said it resists a little.
I could not resist!

WASTE-OF-MONEY
At least for the Hero. These things are a total pita to put on. They don't seem to make the screen any less sensitive but they do make it harder to slide your finger across it.
Application is a mess, if you are ocd about your electronics then tape up the speaker because water is going to get on it. My g/f's went on well and is almost not obvious but mine looks absolutely terrible, and I did hers first! AND they don't even cover the entire screen! I am very disappointed in the zagg invisible shield for the sprint cdma hero.
I'd like to find a thin, rigid, plastic screen protector. I bet there's one out there somewhere.
*update- after writing this post I couldn't take it anymore. My zagg shield is now protecting the applicator card that came with it.
it might be too late for the sale... who knows... but previously purchased just the front screen protector and not the whole body. im pretty happy with it
i had already used a rubbery body thing for the back but when coupled with the zagg protector, i am alot less worried about accidentally putting my hero in the same pocket as my keys when inebriated.
application was a pita. good luck!
I just ordered one for my Eris, hopefully it's not as bad as you guys are mentioning it. Then again the Eris uses a different material, and I only plan to use the whole front(screen + around the buttons).

and on my ipod full cover and my brother's ipod
i dont have trouble with any of them... so i dont know about you.: S
Yeah, I don't know. They're a big name in the business and I know they didn't get that way selling crap. I think I got a defect. I read more reviews about them and most people seem to like them. I also checked out my g/f's more closely and I have to admit if mine had come out as good as hers I wouldn't have anything to complain about. Mine was crap, totally took away from the touchscreen.
I will be calling zagg tomorrow... hopefully they'll help me out with a replacement, they do have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee so if nothing else I'll send it back and try something else.

G2 did a triple lindy off my kitchen island

So my son knocked my G2 off the kitchen island yesterday. I didn't see it but I heard hit the tile. Upon inspection, I can't find any indication as to where it impacted. No scatches, scrapes, dents, cracks or bruises. My hinge is still tight as well. I can say that it was face down when I got to it and it was closed so I don't think the keyboard opened up.
So it seems I lucked out this time. Hope it doesn't happen again.

The fact that the phone is tough..? Or the fact that accidents happen? Haha.
I purchased the black gel skin yesterday, and so far I like it. No kickstand, sure, but it's much easier to grip (and much harder to get out of my pocket...), sits on surfaces without sliding, and doesn't look too bad. The phone looks sexier naked, of course, but it's not too bad.

Yeah, I thought I might need one at first. I heard it hit and looked up and my son and wife were just looking at me in fright. I started to boil but his face made me realize it's just a phone. He didn't mean to do it. I am happy it is fine though.
When I heard it, I knew what it was immediately. It made three distinctive thumps as it hit and bounced twice. I just can't believe it didn't even leave a mark.

Will definitely be careful with mine since I may just carry it butt naked with a G1 pouch case when not in use. I like the black rubber cases but not the friction - taking it out of the front pocket...
lol I dropped mine on gravel and got scared it sounded so loud and thought I had broken my new G2, when I picked it up to look for the damage I was so surprised only a tiny dent, no scratches no scrapes, very very well built
I had a coworker ask me about the phone, so when i said she could look at it, she slid the phone (no case on it) battery side down across the metal table it was on. i heard the metal on metal scrape and to say i was going to go ape **** would be putting it mildly. i didn't yell or cuss her out (in my mind i did), but she got the idea from my reaction and tone in voice that wasn't a smart move. luckily she didn't scrape it. i swear people just don't understand us (geeks)

I dropped my NS from 4th feet

So the story is I accidentally dropped it on ceramic tile and it bounce a couple of times before it finally stop.
What amazes me is that there's no single scratch or dent on it; and everything was intact when I pickup the phone from the floor. And no, I don't use any case at all. Yay for NS build quality!
But I think I need to get a case since the back of the phone feels slippery. Or is there any battery cover replacement that made from rubber?

Telus sells the Casemate for the nexus S in store. it adds a little more bulk, but overall i'm very happy with the case.
You could buy a cheap InvisibleShield-like full body protector on ebay and just use the back part for grip.
It did make a dent at one corner after I dropped it from my desktop on to a 300W transformer sitting next to my desk
I droppes mine on rough ground and I got some scratches on the top of the device, put the tpu case and now I feel safe.

Had an accident

I had an accident on my bike today... got bumped from behind by a car while going at 50 or so and lost control of the bike. Got saved by my helmet, rolling away and this fancy biking jacket my brother got me (think it has kevlar in it) but my bag flipped open and my Note went flying.
So I'm okay and thankful for that. But my Note hit the ground hard and split open... It's got two deep scratches on the glass (about 2mm long each) and a few lighter ones, plus a big scrape on the plastic casing at the bottom. This sucks so much .
Do you guys know if I could give it to Samsung to replace the glass? Will that be expensive? My phone's working fine but every time I look at it, those scratches almost physically hurt.
Its the first time I've ought such an expensive phone. Can't bear to see it like this...
Don't know about fixing the note but glad you are okay!

I pay 36 norwegian kroner/month (about 7 USD) in insurance, so I am covered if my GNote get stolen or smashed in an accident like this.

You should be happy your not injured as it could have been worse, especially when your on a bike, as for the phone...if you don't like it how it looks try and contact Samsung or take it to where you bought it from and ask how much it would cost to fix ...i'd pay £100 for it if it came to that for a phone worth so much.

I don't know where you are physically located, but in the UK, I'd expect the car driver's insurance to pay for repairs to your note (assuming you were not at fault of course!). Failing that, your household contents insurance might cover it.

It's called "an accident" for a reason.
Sorry about your accident bro! All that matters is that you are ok. Last month i've changed my screen under warranty (screen issues, lines etc) and a saw that the glass is glued to the amoled, it's one big sandwich, it comes with the front facing camera, home button, speaker and the screen plastic bezel. The screen with all the parts is around 300$.
Good luck!

Dropped face down from 2.5 feet

Pulled up to 7-11 this morning for some coffee, One was on my lap, parked, opened door, got out, SLAP!!! It fell face down flush with the ground (asphalt). I think I stared at it on the ground for about 3 minutes, before my eyes teared up I decided to face my fears and pick it up. The glass was perfect, no scratches, nicks, or cracks... I was VERY surprised. It fell hard, the aluminum on all 4 corners does have a nick in it, but the glass was fine.... Awesome.

Seems the 4 corners of the phone are slightly raised as I dropped mine face down and only one corner has a little nick.
HTC phones have always been indestructible for me especially the screens. Galaxy s3 and note 2 screens are very fragile.

I was just thinking the same.
I'm a fan of the Baseus Slim flip case. It's cheap, good quality and it protects the screen.
I never thought I'd like a flip case but it's actually really unobtrusive and when I'm home I take it out.
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=300885232164
I loved the slip case for the Sensation. It was light, thin, aesthetically pleasing and protected the phone really well. I don't understand why HTC didn't continue making them in that style. They went back to the chunky ones with the pull tab for the One X and they don't do a slip case for the One at all. I much prefer being able to feel the lines of such a beautiful device when I'm using it.
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=180718618384
I would never have a flip case that holds my bank cards though. Firstly it's very nature makes it larger than necessary but you're also making a very convenient little package and advertisement for muggers and pick pockets. Not clever if you live in a city.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
I gotta ask you something guys.
I'm trying to decide what to buy. Flipcase, pouch or some clear gel case.
I really want to buy a pouch because I don't want to hide this beauty. So my question is; when do you think people drop their phone most? while talking or while taking it out of pocket? I mean if I got pouch it'll protect it if I drop when taking out of my pocket. But It wouldn't help if it was in my hand (obviously)
I always like pouches. All of my phones look like new when I finish with them.
In my opinion, skins don't protect the phone it's so easy to scratch the screen in your pocket and screen protectors look like ****.
Flip covers aren't ideal either. You could easily get keys or loose change between the screen and the flap, when in your pocket.
I like pouches because you hold the phone as it was intended to be and you view it as intended. What's the point of having a beautiful device if it's hidden under layers of gel, leather or plastic? It's like everyone who has an iPhone is always telling me how beautiful it is and that's why they don't want an android phone. Then I ask them the last time they actually saw their beautiful iPhone out of it's case and that makes them think.
The difficulty I'm finding with the One and a slip case is as I pointed out above. HTC made a great slip case for the Sensation but the last few they've made have sucked. I have a One X slip case and it's huge both on the phone and in the hand. I've tried loads of third party slip cases in the past, with other phones, and the main issues are quality and that they're generally ill fitting. Not to mention they often look like crap.
The reason I started buying official HTC cases was that I was sick of buying new cases all the time and I saw one cheap and decided to try it. I have to say that the quality is generally way better with their own cases and I've bought official ever since (I've owned six HTC phones). This time round though I think they've screwed it up. The official cases for the One are too bulky. I want a tight fitting slip case that covers the top of the phone well but is easy enough to remove the phone from to answer quickly.
You also have to consider the material. When I first started buying cases I really didn't want leather and I bought ones made from textiles but they aren't so easy to slip in and out of your pocket. In fact gel cases pretty much grip the material in your pockets, this could cause you to fumble with the phone to get it out of your pocket and drop it. I say that because it has happened to me before and I had a few near misses. So. Anyway. I ended up realising why it makes a lot of sense to go with leather. It's just as easy to get in and out of your pocket as with no case at all.
