Riiiight! haha I was at work so I totally wasn't thinking clearly. Would that happen to be that "one click root" thing I seen?
ANNNND! does it work on all X10 models?
I mean if its only one click, I might as well do it lol

The third link on the first page is an app, I assume you know what they are? Transfer it to your SD, find it with Astro, RootExplorer or similar, install, run, click to root, but if you don't like it, know what to do ect, run the app, click to unroot, simples innit.

You cannot install it like other apps with the installer. You will have to put that apk file in /system/app either by pushing it using adb or just buy root explorer from the market and copy the apk to
/system/app after you mount the folder as r/w of course.

Thanks for the reference. The leaked build version seems to be working for this purpose.
To get this to work, you need to edit the /system/build.prop. find the line that begins with "ro.build.fingerprint" and change it to:
Code:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/264707:user/release-keys
Once rebooted, the nag might appear once more, but if you go to Settings->About phone->System updates you wil now get "your system is currently up to date".

Can somebody give me some simple instructions on how to replace the build.prop file with the changes I made? I grabbed the old one and made the changes (Just changing the numbers from 231334 in my case to 264707 correct?) but can't figure out how to replace the file now. I assume I need to use adb to do it, but I'm not experienced enough with using this method to feel confident and I'd rather not mess up my phone. Is it as simple as:
adb remount
adb push c:\build.prop /system/build.prop
adb shell reboot
Thanks for the help in advance...
What should I do if I do want to install the OTA, just for the sake of being up-to-date stock? I'm on stock 2.2, rooted with S-OFF and and ClockworkMod 2.5.0.5, and I'm not sure where to go from here.

I used subs (another root file manager) to edit the file. Click menu > mount system r/w. Then long press build.prop select chmod change to 666.
Edit file, save then change chmod back to 644
This might work in root explorer (change permissions) first.

It's not meant to be an apk that you install onto the phone.
(1) Download the file onto your PC and unzip it.
(2) Enable USB Debugging mode on your phone.
(3) Connect the phone to your PC.
(4) Click on the "SuperOneClick" file in the unzipped folder.
(5) Click on the "Root" button.
(6) Wait until it says that root is successful.
(7) Unplug your phone from the PC and manually reboot it.
(8) Your phone is unrooted!
thanks, I will get a laptop from my work this evening and try.
So (yes I am a noob) should I downloading this file on the phone or on the computer??

You should be downloading it to a PC and running it from there.
Oh, I forgot to add that you need to reboot your phone manually before it is detected to be rooted.

Or you could just leave that "annoyance" and each time you get annoyed, remember that this is the reason you're getting stuff FOR FREE, and this is your way to support the developers. And if you don't like the ads - PAY.

You need to enable "unknown sources" option in the phone, the description is "allow installation of non-Market applications"
Go to Settings -> Application settings and it should be the first option, check the box and try again.
