Just wanted to put this out there for those who don't know, Samsung Kies has made JI6 available. Just upgraded my phone with no problem at all ^_^
Wow thanks! Tired of waiting for the OTA update!
edit: Im getting a firmware update cannot proceed message. firmware will now close. wth?
Just did the update for the heck of it.
build.prop has the same date as the odin JI6 so it should be the legit update.
Edit to add that I can actually see protected apps in the market. Specifically Fandango and PayPal. Haven't checked any other apps yet. Going to test GPS and compass next.

im getting same? help?
9 sats in view 9 in use after a minute or two on intial fix. Compass was actually smooth and didn't need to be calibrated on first use for me this time. Seems like I always had to calibrate it before.
Uploading the file I retrieved after it unpacked it. Going to take a while on my crappy connection and I am off to bed.
Will share the link when I get up if someone else hasn't by then.
Is Kies still not updatable? Do I need to be on 1.5.1? Or is 1.5.3 fixed now? I'm on 1.5.1 but nervous to go to the updated version. My Kies still says no updates available. I'm on JI5 right now.
It looks like if you upgraded to ji5 via kies, you cant upgrade to ji6 via kies. I get a notice that update is available in kies, but then it says my firmware cant be upgraded.

i am having the same problem and I am on stock firmware not rooted and its really starting to annoy me. i even went as far as uninstalling the kies program and reinstalling it and doing a factory data reset on my phone before trying it. anyone have any ideas?
Will you still get a firmware update notification if you upgrade using kies? I still have not gotten it and getting impatient.
I keep crashing Kies when it tries to download the firmware, really annoying at the moment
My upload quit when I checked on it when I got up. I'll try to do it again when I get time but from what I can tell it's exactly like the odin JI6.
Update on protected apps. For some reason after the initial flash I can search and see them but after I install an app from the market I can no longer see protected apps. I think I am just going to enjoy this fine device for a few days and not sweat it until it gets sorted out. I can always get the app on my MyTouch and transfer them to the Vibrant if needed.
Ok well so far it appears to have worked for me. It just finished with no issues, my phone restarted and is now on the galaxy s logo. Will let you know if it's bricked or not,
Well for anyone who kept getting the 'could not update' message, the problem is probably with kies 1.5.3
i had that same problem, downgraded to 1.5.1 and updated successfully
I have had the same problem today:
Kies 1.5.3.10093_31 does see the Vibrant (in Kies-Mode), after Update, the Mobile was never connected
Also in this version, the update was offered, but not successful.
Than I have download Mini-Kies from Samsung US, installed and the Upgrade was running without any problems Hopefully Samsung does not change this one-other wise I must work via Odin....
I was freaking out today because Kies stopped working. I upgraded to JI6 yesterday with Kies. Then today, I read about the 2.2 upgrade in the UK and thought I would give it a try, but I upgraded Kies first. After that, it showed that the Vibrant isn't supported. I just downloaded Mini Kies today.

I just received my Samsung Galaxy S I9000 today and am using it as I charge it. I dialed *#1234# to see that I have the following firmware:
PDA: I9000XXJF3
Phone: I9000XXJF3
CSC: I9000OXAJF3
Can someone please tell me which firmware I should be upgrading to so that I have the most recent and least laggy firmware.
Cheers
What does Kies offer you with firmware update?
Kies does not let me do an update, possibly because of my region, I'm unsure. I live in New Zealand
JM1 official seems like a good one to go for, you may with some tweaking be able to get Kies to update. See this thread > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7807299#post7807299
So i used the ctrl+alt+u+p trick and it attempted to upgrade to JM1 but was unable to and gave me the error failed to convert to upgrade mode. do I need to boot my phone into some sort of upgrade mode or something?
I've been trying for 2 days to update to JM1, as kies said the firmware update was available for my phone.
I finally solved the "failed to convert to update mode" problem.
Basically, from what I spotted after installing and uninstalling kies a few times is that all the drivers for the phone install (modem, mass storage etc), except "usb composite device" maybe they forgot to bundle that specific drive in with kies?
Go here, download these drivers and install them. It will say they're already installed, but go ahead and install over the top.

Solved my headache!
Does "2.1-update1" mean I have the recent OTA update?
ECLAIR.UVJI6 under "Build Number" means you have the latest version.
Vibrant came stock with 2.1-update1 and the latest update doesn't change that. Your build and baseband will both end in JI6
Hm, I had a firmware update available last night and I ran it but it "bricked" my phone. I spent all day learning how to get back to stock. I finally fixed my phone, but when I went back to run the update again I get "No firmware."
The same way you got back to stock can get you to the latest update. It's really easy, just make sure you are using Odin 1.3
Are you rooted right now?
No, since I got back to stock I haven't done anything besides redoing some of the old settings I had. Last time I rooted I used RyanZAs OCLF, but I had kind of decided being rooted (or something) was the reason the update broke my phone.
Just odin from my thread. Its the same as the OTA. Undo all your lagfixes and all BS. before trying to do it.
its all explained. Dont see a need for 30 threads on the same thing.
Seems there's a new kies update in town that launched today.
And what?
Do I get cookies when I install it?

It's just a way for Samsung to remind you that they don't have your ICS update.

Having the same issue
where is linkd DUS?
New update for Kies and again the same issues. After installation the software is unable to detect the phone, although Windows do. I really don't want to blame developers inside Samsung, but it seems to me, that they don't pay much attention for this software.
underline: Kies seems to be the only software I know, that can't use the Windows 7 resize feature (windows key + any arrow). This is really ridiculous considering fact, that Win 7 are on the market for more than year.
So guys good luck, while updating
Yesterday when I opened Kies, it shows there is one update. I tried to upgrade with Kies itself. But failed. so I downloaded it from Samsung website and installed it, automatically it uninstalled my previous version. But now I'm facing a problem. Kies is not starting. One time it started, and shown windows encountered an error. until now Kies is not opening, I'm using windows 7.
I tried to uninstall it and re install the old version, but still it is not opening. what to do?
Kies version installed is 2.2.0.12014_18_8
Yep I'm another one
Kies keeps telling me there's an update and downloads and installs it but when it restarts it hasn't actually installed it and guess what there's an update available grrrrr

best option would be to remove kies completely from your system.also remove your samsung drivers from add/remove programs.once you've done that install ccleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds to clean your registry of any remaining bits and bobs.then re-install kies hopefully that should help.
For me the Kies update has done something strange but very useful
Last week I put the UK 3 mobile version of ICS onto my unbranded GS2 and before the Kies update I got the usual message that firmware cannot be updated via Kies.
Now, with this updated Kies it's happy to check the firmware of my GS2 (Telling me I'm on the latest version), even though I'm using a different brand of firmware than was originally on the phone (Was XEU, now H3G)
H
Same pb here, keeping update without any sucess
Reinstalled drivers via Kies, rebooted PC and it is worse than before...
So whenever ICS rolls out (said to be in few days), I will be maybe unable to update.... great

Keys Update ver 2.3.0.12035_16 date 5th Apr 2012
Kies tried to update and then once again. First time it did not update. And it started again. And once again! But it stayed back with 2.1.11124_17. Wondering where the downloads went! Please let me know if Kies update to ver 2.3.0.12035_16 worked with anyone.

Hi all.. I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 gt p7500 one month old, and I saw that there is finally an update to ICS. I still dont got it try mobile netowork (t-mobile - Macedonia), so i read that I can update thru kies. The problem is, I cannot connect mu tab to kies??? I dont have an USB option on Wireless and Networks and it connects in MTP mode. Is there any way to fix this problem and if not, how can I update my tablet to stock version of ICS in some other way? Please help...
Regards
It sucks that kies won't work now that ics is out. I'm having trouble updating mine as well.
Kies is not a product
I have tried for almost a year now to get my tab recognised by Kies, but only a factory reset will get Kies to recognise my tablet. The moment I install my own software on it again that disappears.
Kies via Wifi has no firmware upgrade option, sad to say, so best wait for OTA upgrade.
I am waiting too for the OTA as that POS named Kies is not working for me. But it is coming, just be a little more patient. It is rolling out in the US, maybe even in Canada. The rest of Europe will follow, or you can download from samfirmware.com, and do it over USB via Odin (lots of threads covering that)...
Best of luck!
I did a reset in anticipation of the update and was able to do the update through Kies
with no problem.
I had 2 Galaxy 10.1, one of them could only connect wireless for update, not with Kies, the other one could not update OTA, only with Kies... and to connect I had to reset the device, Kies is really worth nothing...
One of the reasons why I am only using custom ROM
I fought with it for a couple hours last night, and finally resorted to a factory wipe. Then it was fine. Just means a few hours of reinstalling and configuring widgets, but still annoying as hell that after 2 years Kies doesn't work with 3.2 stock rom.

It's far worse: I could never connect to Kies. One day I just wanted to test connecting to Kies, so I did a Backup with Titanium Backup and then a factory reset. Thereafter I could connect without any issues. So I restored all settings - user and system data with everything! - from my TB and expected not to be able to connect after doing that. But oh wonder! I still could connect to Kies!
But about a week later it was again like before: No connection to Kies :silly: That was the last time I started the software on my PC :cyclops:
After the update, and after I updated the apps that are included with the tab, and after I reinstalled all of my apps,
I tied Kies again. Tab connected wih no problems.
Looks like that's one of the things fixed in ICS.
From what I gathered from the internet and other forums the problem with Kies apparetly is that if there is a file with a filename that kies doesn't like, it won't connect. The big problem is find that file or files

That is my understanding too. But when I remove all non-essential files (i.e. "personal" files) from the system it still did not work... So it must be one of the files related to a product.
To find out which one (or which ones...) will take a lot of time, and I do not want to spend that much time on a POS product like Kies... So for now I will wait for the OTA update, or the end of August 2012, whatever comes first. If it still is not there at the end of this month I will go to one of the custom ROMs, and never look back.
XDA is no longer worth my time.

It doesn't have to connect to Kies in order to do the update. Mine didn't.
Put it in download mode, have Kies running, connect the cable and run the Firmware upgrade and initialization from the tools menu.

That IS an interesting concept. Never thought that might work. I have given up, surrendered to Kies, reset the GTab, got Kies working, but alas, no update here in Canuck Territory... So all for naught!
I will try your approach on the other GTabs I've got...
Thanks for the tip!
-- EDIT --
Guess what? When running Firmware upgrade and initialization I get the message: "'GT-P7510' does not support initializing."
And that is all I can do, no upgrade via that path possible...
I did a factory data reset and upgraded to ICS via wi-fi. And my 7510 was still rooted
Me and my partner both have a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 in the UK on EE, Our phones are set up the same and today my partners phone downloaded a 350Mb+ OTA update and applied it fine while if I try to update OTA it says it is up to date and if I try to update on the PC I get a message saying "Failed to convert to upgrade mode"
My phone currently says:
Build number: JDQ39.I9505XXUAME2
While my partners is:
Build number: JDQ39.I9505XXUBMG7
Which Kies says is the newest update.
What could be causing my phone to completely ignore the update? My phone isn't rooted and nothing has been added to either phone, they are both stock S4s.
I've spent the past 6 hours searching to try to find if anyone else has had this and any I have found have no answers, it's starting to drive me crazy now.

You could always go to apps then all and go to the Google Framework Services and Clear the cache and Reboot to try to force the OTA

Unfortunately this didn't work, also tried force stopping the service, clearing cache and data, rebooted and tried the OTA update again, still saying the phone is up to date, really wish it would have been that simple.
have you tried clearing cache & dalvik cache and restoring to default from recovery mode?
Update: After trying the suggestions in this thread, none of them worked unfortunately. I was getting ready to do a reset on it to see if it would help and I it suddenly decided to download and apply the update, so the problem is sorted but I have no clue how.

Dude, forget these OTA`s and flash the entire new rom from here www.sammobile.com with Odin 3.04. Afterwards do a data factory reset (backup first), this will give you the best result.
Same thing happened to me.
Me, my girlfriend and my brother have a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505. All phones was bought 3 weeks ago.
After purchase I checked all S4 for update. All show that they have newest updates.
2 days ago I once again checked my GF S4 for update and i started to update. Downloaded one 70mb ant other 300mb update patch and updated itself. Same on brothers phone.
But when I try to update my S4 it says that its up to date.
My phone:
Build number: I9505XXUAMDE
GF and brothers phone:
Build number: I9505XXUAMDD. After update I9505XXUBMG7.
Why my S4 do not updates?
Updates are released in different time depending on region?
