I'm looking at buying a prophet, and the description says that the " Phone randomly crashes turning the screen either completely light or completely dark and require a reseat of the battery to work again. This phone is considered un-repairable by the manufacture. Phone also has unsupported customized Windows Mobile 6.1 firmware."
could this be a software issue or do you think a hardware. possibly a ribbon cable, are there parts available for these? thanks
Hello Quintman and welcome to the forum.
I have no idea where you got the information in your post but as someone who has used a Prophet for 2 years I can tell you that the phone is perfectly stable, specially if you stick with the original WM 5 ROM.
I still use and love it but I would not recommend buying this phone today unless you are looking for something cheap.
It is fairly outdated compared to most models, and has no GPS, 3G, and a slow processor.
I suggest yo post your needs and budget in the general section so people could advise on a better model.
lol i just didnt want to say where it was so everyone would bid on it. it is from ebay. i just didnt know if maybe the rom someone flashed was causing the screen issue or if a ribbon cable came loose or something worse. i was just thinking of buying it to play with it. I currently have a wizard that im selling (hopefully today) so im looking into something else. i love the different models with gps and that can take sdhc, that way i could sell both my gps unit and my mp3 player, but i think those are out of my price range (unless i somehow score one on ebay.) i cant decide whether to take a chance on the ebay one. check your pm

I currently have an HD2, I'm loving that Android is working on it now, except for the battery life, I'm so happy with it. I just ran into someone who wants my HD2 and is willing to give me a touchpro 2 and a mytouch 3g straight up. I am tempted, but I would like your opinions. Thanks.
Do you like to watch movies on your HD2?
I wouldn't trade it. I had a Mytouch3g last week for a couple days and it doesn't compare to the hd2 at all, the keyboard isn't great at all. I heard the TP2 with android is slow but it's nice to have a keyboard.
I'm currently running the Energy.Leo.23128.Sense2.5.Cookie.DinikGlass.Aug.10 Rom and have the Energy.Froyostone.HD2.Desire.Android.Aug.8 android folder copied to my SD card. I have a dual boot installed to pick which OS i want from the get go. It's like having a rooted EVO (great keyboard) and a awesome fully loaded Energy Rom powered device in one. I'd like to see EVO users top that. Battery life isn't that bad. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734886
Even though you're looking for an android device, I wouldn't make that trade, unless you planned to sell both of the other phones to put the money towards another device. The TP2 and MT3G are both getting a little long in the tooth to be worth that trade.

and one more time NO.
the battery situation is getting better with android on HD2, stick with it and i'm sure you'll be happy
That's what I'm thinking too... I was surfing the TP2 forums on Android dev and it seems they went stagnant according to some members. I would still want to be able to toy around with dual booting but at the same time, I think I like the Android OS better, it's just that I'm stuck with my HD2 now and this seemed like a good deal, but thanks for your inputs. I think I'll stick it out a little bit more.
I would keep the hd2...couple of weeks more and android will be rocking on the hd2...it already rocks my socks lol...

Was curious if anyone bought an HD2 without knowing it's potential.I was looking at adding lines to my T-Mobile account (thanks to family members stupidity). I browsed online at my free phone options (per line) and went with the highest priced. Almost changed my mind but after being told this phone would no longer be available in 3 hours I went for it. Thinking I got a great deal after misreading the os, I couldn't wait till my android phone arrived. Upon booting I about smashed the phone through my brain. Thanks to wm6.5 lack of wow factor I stumbled upon xda. Thanks to playing angry birds on a friends phone and the humility of admitting his android os was superior I picked apart xda and had an SD version by morning with angry birds installed. The joy derived from one upping him can't be described. All the devs and dedicated owners have my appreciation. Without the devs creating so diligently and xda members continued testing I would have hated this phone.

Not in the same way you did but I did stumble upon the HD2 in a way.
I knew it came with WM6.5 but I also knew I could load Android on it as a dual boot...little did I know the NAND version was so close behind and now WP7 is almost a lock, along with Unbuntu and Meego....this phone is just a crazy hackers dream...
I use hackers loosely when I talk about myself...it's more that I can follow directions good then hack anything...
THE DEV's ROCK...!!!!
A friend of my wife got it and was talking about how nice it was so I decided to try it. Didn't really stumble on it but I also hadn't used WM prior to that. Before it was BlackBerry or the Sidekick.
i bought the phone off my friend's friend for 120 bucks in a heartbeat because it's a htc and it's almost brand new before knowing anything about this phone. my friend's friend is a girl, she don't know anything about this phone also, she bought the phone with t-mousa contract about 2 months ago. the only reason she told me she don't like this phone is b/c the stock winmo 6.5 doesnt show any asian languages and inputs. lol (she is asian.) so she got herself a samsung galaxy S (paying full retail price) and sell this hd2 to me. thanks to xda, i flashed a nand andriod on it and running smooth, everything working and all. (next time i run into her, i should show her my phone and laugh at her...lol...sign )
a while back i was using a dopod 7500. i outgrew the size factor and thus changed to a htc touch pro2. after like a month or two of reading around the xda site, i noticed how powerful and versatile the hd2 was....that's where the regret came in =) but fortunately my touch pro 2 was stolen in my former place of work. my wife, bless her, has always made sure we had home and contents insurance. that was when i immediately opted for a hd2 as a replacement. the insurance guy was offering a htc mozart (running w7). i specifically wanted the hd2 because it was on top of the ladder in terms of wm devices. plus i also knew i could load android into the unit. and i was reading earlier on that w7 could eventually be cracked and loaded as well (which has now happened). so, got my hd2 and have never been more pleased. it's now running android and it's exceeded my expectations.
I previously had the HD1 which I loved because of hardware ans the screen size then when HD2 was released I was like ...WOW!
I really didnt mind Windows Mobile, been using it for years, had plenty of apps but decided to try Android on blackstone (HD1) just because I could
After trying Android on the HD1 I slowy started using it more and more untill I found myself booting into it every time I turned on my phone. This lead to me using a bootloader to automatically starting it when powering on and then ultimatley getting rid of WinMo all together and flashing to NAND in HD2.
I now have WP7 on NAND and Android on SD but will put WP7 on SD if/when its possible as Android is my main OS. Sorry if that went a bit off topic, I didnt really stumble across HD2 I knew I wanted it because it was the big brother to my HD1.
To me the HD2 is as still top of teh range now as it was back then and is still up there with the top spec phones. I dont think I will be retiring this phone for at least another year or two unless something as versatile comes along.
Completely agree this is by far the best phone I've owned.I'll keep it till it dies, and may get an unopened 2nd for that sad day.

Just saw this thread and i felt completely identified. Six month ago a friend of mine was able to acquire me a new mobile phone through his company. So I ask him for a HTC Legend, that was the one that I liked the most. What he finally got me was a HD2, and I remember I was disappointed, I wanted an android phone.
But since I found XDA I am so happy with my HD2 that I actually can't believe it's true.
That's my story about how I stumbled with the best and most vesatile phone on the market. I am a lucky man. Don't you think?
(Sorry for my bad english).

Ive actually been thinking about doing the same thing.
i recently got to know about htc hd2 and its capability to dual boot both android and wp7 and many other OS, so i started searching for the phone am getting one htc hd2 6 months old for about 13000 INR near my place so should i get this phone hardware wise i find the phone great am really interested in trying different OS in same phone will all these OS run smoothly as they are meant to be
then i was wondring should i buy this phone after 2 years of its launch
will it be wise to buy it at that price aiming to run different OS and to experiance all apps and games meant for them.... i dont mind spending time in modding i earlier had a nokia 5230 and was constatly flashing and modding its rom so am little familer with the stuff
please anyone help me out here
wow no reply at all please someone suggest something atleast what to do?
Well the real answer is it is up to you if it is worth it or not. I did not convert the figure you posted into US dollars so I am not sure how much that amout is really.
I still have my HD2 and I will never sell it or get rid of it. The device it self is a great device, it has good hardware even by today's standards. Yes it is not a dual core device bit it still preforms very nicely no matter what OS you install on it. The ability to run so many OS's also makes it still a very relevant device. The actual physical construction of the device is very good and holds up to day to day use very well. hope that helps some.
go for it dude...i bought my hd2 for 36,000 rs..2yrs back.and is worth that even today for me......so, you are getting it for a steal...go get it flash away and enjoy
thank you both for your replies now i am definatily going to get one hopefully tomorrow
converting it into us dollar it comes something around 260$
by the way how is the battery life if i run mango and android in dual boot with moderate usage can it last atleast a day
also do i need to worry about the digitizer problem i heard somewhere that it was only for some batch and not all device had that flaw
and finally will i be able to play some nice 3d games?
My HD2 decided to go faulty so I claimed on the insurance I have with my bank account. After some faffing around with them not repairing it twice they have offered the cash equivalent of a HTC Trophy from Amazon.co.uk as the HD2 is no longer available new. They offered a HTC Legend but I said this was too low a spec when compared to the HD2.
I could get another HD2 off eBay and their cash settlement easily covers the cost. I am wondering whether this is a good move though as Windows Mobile 6.5 development seems to have ground to a halt. I cooked my own WM 6.5 ROM(s) but have suffered with the Phone Canvas issues, VoIP & earpiece issues, Bluetooth issues plus some other issues that I never really found fixes for.
I had Androind running off the SD card on the HD2 but it was never perfect, although this could have been down to the versions I was playing around with. Development for Android seems to be continuing (and gathering pace). I also installed Windows Phone 7 at one point but quickly removed it was just too restrictive (this was a while ago however so things may have changed?).
I could go full-on Android and get a HTC Desire HD for slightly more than a HD2 and again the insurance money easily covers this. I think all the features and software I had with the HD2 I can get (equivalents of?) with the DHD. Plus the DHD has the same physical dimensions as the HD2 so it should fit the HD2 car cradle?
The key uses of my HD2 were:
A phone - calls, contacts, SMS/MMS
Email - Exchange ActiveSync - plus hotmail with Windows Live and POP3/SMTP with my personal email.
SatNav - I use TomTom Navigator
Internet access
VoIP - I use SIP to get cheap calls when outside the UK.
I think everything except TomTom I can replace with Android equivalents.
Any advice?
Andy
Really I am always very surprised when I hear about HD2 with WM 6.5. Already using Android on NAND (MIUI) for 2 years and have never thought of returning to WM.
Dont know what to suggest. If I had the same, I probably took HD2 again. However in my country HD2 is a bit more expensive than Desire HD. Around 540 USD. Don't know about Amazon. Any possibility for you to add some extra money to the claimed one and buy Desire HD?

Hi and thanks for replying. The insurance money will more than cover buying either a HD2 or a Desire HD so the cost isn't the problem. I was just after some opinions/advice on whether to get another HD2 or something else based on my usage (satnav, email etc).
Andy
Desire Hd is a really good phone but if you like changing rom or OS hd2 is better

replace ?
i had the screen go on my HD2 and just replaced the phone will get another screen and have 2 at some point ,I dont realy see another phone/ operating system around that is that much better than the Leo at the moment.I have ran Andriod and 7 but as nice as they are i just like my cookies home and all my apps. I would suggest getting a 2nd hand HD2 and keeping the change to maybee buy another phone in about a year as prices drop a lot (however not realy that fast on the Leo)
Regards Mark
To be honest, I don't see anything at the moment that is coming close to HD2 due to the versatility of the OS and options available. Sure, there are higher spec phones on the market, perhaps with better screens and dual core CPU, but it's not about the specs, is it? I have my T-Mobile HD2 and it gave me the opportunity to have the best of both worlds - Mango and Android running without any trouble. I was torn between WP7 and Android for some time, until Mango came along (thanks, Yuki and XBmod, among many others - you, guys, are the best) and the choice of dual booting was made. The biggest problem I am facing every day is what OS to start the day with, haha. A friend of mine has purchased Samsung Galaxy SII last weekend after giving up on Iphone and following my Android recommendations, but now he envies my HD2 running Android and WP7.5 because he likes it a lot too, HTC Hub made him cry with envy . So there he was, saying 'But it's a thousand dollar phone, why can't I have both too???'. He likes his phone very much and it is an impressive piece of electronics, but it's not HD2...
A few years ago and after many, many HTC smartphones, I got JasJar (HTC Universal) and reached a point where nothing that came on the market afterwards could lure me away. I still have it, but the only phone that could take its place in my heart is HD2.
So if you can't be bothered reading all of the above, what I am trying to say is yep, another HD2 would be something I would go for in your position. Best of luck.

Or... you might want to part with the broken screen one, as in sell it to me, because I am looking for a mainboard to have another Leo repaired and used for development. Just a suggestion.
