The AM/PM area on the notification bar is starting to burn in on the screen. If you download "Screen test" from the market, you can see this on the red and blue tests. I saw someone on another forum mention this, so I thought I'd check, and sure enough it's there.
Don't really see it becoming a huge problem, but it still sucks.

I bought mine 2 days after it came out and mine shows no signs of it.... *knocks on wood*
Although my notification bar is black which might have saved me.

If it gets too bad I'm going to return the phone. I've had the phone about two weeks and I can already see the burn in happening pretty bad. This can ruin pretty much anything you do on the phone (games, etc.).
Yep, got mine the week after launch and I can see a hint of it starting too. Is it recoverable or is this something inherent with samoled? Does it happen with lcd? Some of the alternative launchers give you the option to hide the notification bar. Could that help? I tried adw at first but actually got better battery life with touchwiz so I went back to it.
*update* been trying the jscreenfix from the market & switched to 24hr clock with adw hiding the notification bar most of the time. Can't see faint burn-in anymore during screentest app. The vibrant & captivate forums have alot of info on this as well.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Yep its really hard to see but under the grey screen I can see the AM/PM logo. I know there is a Jscreenfix out there to help with stuck pixels and screen burn. Another app that might work well is the hypnotic spiral set to black and white. I have it sped up a bit, ill get back with results.
This shouldn't even be possible with samoled....

It's very possible, check out the Nexus One forums about screen burn. If you are talking about the principle that this should not be happening with this new of a technology then I agree.
I've got a line of green running down the right side of my screen that's pretty evident while displaying whites, is anybody else experiencing the same thing or have any idea what's causing this?
The green line is normal.
Edit.
The green line is normal if it is running down the left side right on the edge of the screen. It is most evident when displaying white/gray most notably when using the window shade.
No burn in here, and I use my phone alot.

Yes I'm sorry, I mistyped while writing that post, it is on the left side. Thanks for the reassurance.
No problem. This burn-in is OCD hell. ONCE SEEN CAN NOT UNSEE!!
Had mine since it came out. I anticipated this with super amoled so I just keep it locked with the screen off. I checked and saw no burn in. Just don't abuse your phone by leaving the beastly screen on all the damn time.
Sent from my Samsung Fascinate using Tapatalk.
I have never kept my screen on a static image for very long at all. The problem here is the items that don't move on the OS which is mostly the AM/PM white text. Putting this on military time should ease this a bit but this sounds to be something thats going to happen to all of our phones eventually. Also I do not consider keeping a phone screen on for a bit to be abusing it at all. I call this normal use especially when you set the phone to stay on during debugging mode. I'm not going to make excuses for this phone and say its not an issue. On the other hand also not going to return it because of a hardly noticeable burn-in. Using jscreenfix for a couple of hours now has *seemed* to fade the AM/PM burn a bit. This could just be my eyes playing tricks but it does seem to be less noticeable.

So my excitement kinda came to an early end last night. I got my second replacement mt4g due to a bad screen. This one is perfect...except that when I was reading some text on a page with a white background, I noticed that from bottom to top, the white gradually goes from white to this yellowish tint. I will post a picture of it later on tonight.
My question is, do you have/had this problem and did you end up returning it or did it go away kind of like when this was happening to the iphone 4? I really hope this really doesn't become a full-blown issue like with the washed colors, because then I would have to request a 3rd replacement and make sure that it doesn't have dead pixels, dust under the screen, washed out colors, yellow tint, crooked ffc, creaky buttons, and gaps around the bezel. Thanks.
Here is an example of what i'm talking about except my display is white at the bottom and gradually goes to the color of the phone that is on the right, at the top.

Do you think that the problem is improper screen calibration and all I have to do is wait for a software update?
225 views and one reply?? Really guys?? Not trying to sound like I'm whining, but this is a serious problem and I think i'm not the only one. I just received my replacement, and it too has this yellowish tint towards the top of the screen. This will be my 4th time that I will be requesting a replacement, so in total so far, 4 defective phones.

I'm sorry, but it's really difficult to tell based on the picture you linked. Is there any way you can take a comparison photo with a good screen?
I can't see anything wrong from that photo. It will take something more than this to let others know if you have a problem.

The blacks never looked grayish, the colors were bright, crisp and vibrant, it was when looking at something with a white background. This issue has nothing to do with the washed screens that people are getting.

I figured it out based on a chat I had with a friend. I think that the backlight was improperly calibrated or something. Sorry that I can't take a better picture as I have already received my exchange which is much much better, the light is just more distributed evenly then the previous phone. Plus it doesn't creak, the ffc is dead centered, and light doesn't leak through between the bezel and the screen at the top of the phone. After 4 exchanges(5 phones total), I finally got a "perfect" device.
Here is a side-by-side shot sort of(I returned the defective device before I could think of take a pic of them together due to my excitement!)
You can easily tell that the screen of the phone on the right has way more light at the bottom of it and the top doesn't which results in a more obvious yellowish tint. The phone on the left (good one) doesn't have it as bad, the light is distributed evenly. Both were on auto brightness. The good display's(right) brightness is down a bit more but it doesn't matter since I tried to increase and decrease the brightness on the defective one(left) and it made no difference.

Can you guys with cameras that have manual control test something for me?
Following on from a post by someone else about weird blotches on an all black image displayed on the screen, I checked mine today in pitch darkness and noticed a faint 2 inch or so of blackness on one edge of the screen along with smaller blotches. It doesn't appear to be as visible as the other poster's though but I exaggerated in in the photo so it's easier to see and settings posted below for people to check as well.
This is only visible on an all black screen. This does not exist on any of the S2's I've owned. I'll check my dad's S3 tonight when I go see him in the same way but the way to photograph it to keep the results consistent are as follows:
Stick camera and phone in a cupboard and...
Phone screen brightness: 50%
Camera ISO: 200
Camera Shutter: 15 seconds
Camera Aperture: f/4.5
Remember to pre-focus and use the 10sec timer to avoid shake
Those settings will over exaggerate the effect as shown in my photo below but it makes it easier for everyone to see as you do have to focus your eyes in reality and it's not immediately obvious unless you're in pitch darkness and looking at an all black screen.
I don't know how I feel about this though but if it's visible using the above camera settings for lots of people then I'll leave it as is.
Again, it's only visible on an all black screen so make sure your image that you load is all black and not grey or something Make sure screen timeout is set to at least a minute to avoid the screen going off!

What free app? It's a black image with screen timeout extended. The rest is your camera settings to be able to fairly photograph the screen for everyone to compare, an app can't do that

I didn't see those nope! Thanks for the links. Seems strange though as the white S3 belonging to my dad has none of the blotches, neither does a pebble blue on another forum. My 2 S2 handsets had no issues either.
Oh well!
My first phone: (F/4, ISO 800, 20sec)
Second phone: (F/4, ISO 800, 30sec)
The guy at the store (**** Smith in Australia) was unable to reproduce the issue in-store, so swapped the phone out and said I'd have to go to samsung if I reported the same issue again. The 2nd phone still has the issue, but as you can see, nowhere near as bad... still... not very good is it.
My 2 year SGS1 had about 4 spots - never noticed any issue. The first SGS3 was definitely noticeable just scrolling through system menus at night.
That's rather bad^^ I've emailed mobiflefun with picture so let's see what they say.
Suggest you up your exposure (duration and/or ISO) to make it a bit more noticeable. Looks like you've got a fair amount of guff in the top-left corner.
:/ dodgy manufacturing.
I don't have an SGSIII yet, but I noticed pretty much this same thing on my Galaxy Note. One night I was viewing an image with an all black screen and it had these weird blotches on the screen. I had never noticed them before.

This "issue" is known since the SGS1. Is the leakege from the AMOLED display. One thing to consider i only have a line about half a CM in the same place where you have the circle mark. Maybe a manufacture failure?
quicker way to test.
1 - dark room
2 set auto brightness off and screen to lowest brightness.
go to phone and dial *#0*#
click vibrate test which will display black screen.
and then check....
p.s been through this in other threads here but mky local telco had 26 with this issue went to another telco and got a blue one today - and no issue whatsoever...

Screen banding. Possibly could be fixed in certain ROMs, but definitely an issue you should get it replaced for.

Well yeah, if you're going to be a **** about it no one is going to go to your thread.
And I wouldn't exactly link dead pixels and this banding together.
I have this same issue on my N4....not as bad as yours but under certain conditions vertical banding is observable (generally when at 100% brightness). Having it replaced this week.
I don't think that is banding. Banding is whole a other thing. Very common on Panasonic plasmas and some LCD TV's. Those seem to be GPU going whack lines. Or possibly some bad interference and it showing up as that. But if I had to put money on it I would guess broker or going bad adreno 320's.

Just noticed something like this on my screen. It's very (very) faint and only shows up against gray backgrounds but the pattern is pretty similar. If it gets worse I'm going to contact Google.

I'll be contacting google soon, only have my phone on me and I'm on Tmobile's web exclusive plan so only have 100 minutes to talk and I'm not spending them on a 30 min hold. I'll update everyone on the situation.
I had something similar. I turned on the phone and it was just a black screen, and those lines started showing up. Turned the phone off/on and it hasn't done it since. But now I got red pixels that show up by the notification and navigation bars. They disappear once I touch the screen. It doesn't happen allot so I'm not sure if I want to return it
Replacement is being shipped, should take 3-5 days from what I was told.
I had this same issue last week. Except my left top corner was really bright. It persisted after reboot. Hasn't happened since.
same problem here but with blurred display
I too had the same problem with my nexus 4 but i dropped it from a foot height. The display suddenly got blurred and these vertical lines started to appear.can anyone tell me Whether LG accepts this under warranty or I have to pay for it?
I know this is a problem with a lot of LCDs but do a lot of nexus 4 users have them? Ive used it for 1 week but just yesterday, i noticed that the top right corner of my screen has some bleeding. Really noticible looking at blacks on full brightness. I just want to know if this is common with the nexus 4. Its starting to bug me now that i noticed it. I love everything about this phone except for the fact that the phone goes to 38C battery temp with some usage, the screen bleeds, the radio? or something isnt that good and i lose connection on rogers in canada sometimes, and the touch screen does not respond properly in weather under -10C. (btw does anyone know if this is normal?). The battery life i get with light texting and browsing on CM10 is 5h screen, 30h idle so im happy with that. Its mainly the screen bleed im wondering about

Yes lots of them have light bleeds mine does but I only see it really during startup at night or in a dark room. Do u always use your screen at full brightness? If yes then u could try to RMA but that can turn into and endless loop of messed up rmas. If everything else is good on your phone ID keep your original. Chances are if u RMA its still gonna have light bleeds and maybe worse like a crackling speaker or something.

RMA it. Two of us got them at the office today. One was absolutely fine. Turned mine on and the first thing I noticed during bootup was light bleed at the top of the screen. Always see it since it's right on the black status bar. Started RMA immediately, knew I'd regret it and always notice it if I kept it.
Pic posted, note that this was the best I could get the pic to look, it's way more noticeable in person. When I noticed it I was in a well lit room...

I can't believe I have fricking burn-in on my screen! I have had the phone less than two weeks and have been loving it but last night noticed lines on the screen. They look to line up exactly with the thread topics list on the Tapatalk app.
I have been using the app a lot but there is no way I should have burn in happening. It's not like I have even left the screen sitting in one place when using the app. My hypothesis is that it might have happened from using the ultra brightness mode (adapt display with maximum brightness on with auto brightness turned on) in bright sunshine and using the Tapatalk app.
I have googled burn in for this screen and haven't seen anything so I wonder if I somehow have a bad screen. It did look great when I first got it. If anyone out there has heard anything about this or can check their screen on a dark grey background I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Has the same white lines across screen when the brightness is turned down in a dark room with a dark grey or similar color on screen. Sent the replacement back and am going to keep the first one. The lines are actually not that easy to see during normal usage and I really like the phone.

Yeah I have had an s2, galaxy nexus and s3 before this and have noticed some screen uniformity issues before. Never had seen the distinctive thin lines like I see on the two s5's I have examined. Know the feeling. It freaks me out every time I use Tapatalk.
They also show up when you use a paint app and fill the screen with +-80% brightness with the screen brightness below 30%
However, they disappear when you turn the brightness of the screen up, (and compensate the black to 80% again) so it's just a bit of an error in the led calibration.
The area below the notification bar also has it when you run the colour tests after dialing *#0*#.
It's more predominantly visible on the S5 and Note 3 because those screens have the highest contrast ratio.
I'm horribly OCD over my devices too. There's a 0.5mm distance-to-screen difference between the edges of my screen protector... It bothers me every single day! >.<

Funny you should say that I just got one of those tempered glass screen protectors and was amazed that I got it on without any dust or air bubbles. Unfortunately it is also off a fraction to one side and also doesn't quite line up perfectly around the home key. I am so tempted to try to fix it every day but I know I should just leave it alone. ?
