ext2 to ext4 - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

i did a search but didn't find much....i was wondering how would one go about changing the system.ext2 to system.ext4 to have android run faster? i read that it would shorten the sd cards life but i have a few extra id like to try it out on
if anyone could give me some insight on it, it would be much appreciated
sorry if its a repost but i couldn't find the answer to my exact question

Anyone?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App

I asked this a couple months back.. was told it would kill a SD card quick and nothing more.. even after me saying that I had run cm on my g1 with ext4 for over a yr and still didn't get a decent answer.. so idk.. I think no one wanted to mess with it.

[Q] android on main storage and roms?

hey guys,
i have a lot of questions...
i tried android on my hd a lot of times....
the first times it worked finde but the latest roms are all crashed after a while
after deep sleep they are all freezing...
so the first question, is it an issue of my rom i´m using?
which one are you using for android? especially the devs which one are you using to try youre andrid?
i think its the best way if evertybody is using the same one to find out whick´h errors are comin from the windows rom or from android?
okay next question...
why is it not possible to install the cab on the main storage of the hd? a lot of errors are issued by the slow spped of the sd card? in my opinion it would fix a lot of probs if we can install android on the main storage, it would imrpove speed and saves sd card?
i´m not a dev so i don´t know if there is any possibility or not, its just a question for my understanding
i´m really looking forward to see a android rom for he hd bur i know its hard work for our devs here...
maybe we can make a bonus, everybody who wants a rom for android will pay 10 euros or dollar in jackpot and the guy who make a rom working will win the pot ;-)
thanxs for your answers and sorry for that bad german english
best wishes from germany
tom
is there really nobody who lnwos any answers?
it's just useless to reply because it has already been explained 10.000 times all over. If you at least 'd take the time to read
where is it explained which rom each dev is using? is ther any thread? if yes pls show me, cause i read a lot of time here.
and where is exaxtly written why we definitly canßt use the mainstorage?
We still need windows to initialize a lot of the hardware before launching android, for the moment.
At the moment, we cannot figure out the way to initialize it before booting android, this is why there's no android ROM ready.
Besides, there's still a lot more urgent/important things to do before (Deep sleep causing crashes, HW3D not working on Blackstone, and battery life, for example)

It's explain, countless time.
READ
then read again.
It's in the virtually all the main FAQ's.
AND this isn't a f**king ROM... THAT is explained in the FAQ's too.
oh i think you got me wrong. i don't want to install it like a rom. my questiin was about installing the cab on the mainstorage instead of the sd card. cause the reading time of the sd will be the biggest ussue which makes android slow and will causetbe problem of the waiting for... problems.

Please, there's no need to be rude, even if those questions were already asked and answered countless time, you're just losing your own time.

For the moment, we don't have access to the mainstorage from android, only the sdcard, if I remember correctly.
Alright people!
I am the developer of the SenseHERO rom for the HTC Hero (http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698281). I have recently obtained a HTC Touch HD so I will begin developing for you when I get some spare time.
Has anybody yet been successfully in getting tinboot working from NAND yet? If not then I may have to get my hands dirty and see what I can achieve just for experimental purposes obviously with the full awareness that alot of work will be needed to get hardware properly initialized.
If we get stuck the best person to get info for this would be DZO who made android from NAND a reality for the Vogue/Kaiser who are now running it on their Devices as stable & fast as the Native Android Phones..

[Q] Running android 2.2 on hd2 without a memory card?

Is there anyways that I can do this? I dont have a memory card in the device but i really wanna do this! please help. Thanks! First post here also! just bought my HD2 today. Hoping to stick around here awhile.
Sorry Buddy, so far there is no image i know of that could simply be flashed onto the HD2, so the answer is No im afraid.
A mem card of 2GB is already enough to start. Should cost you no more then a few bucks.

Activation key needed please

Hi all really need some help in getting an activation code for my hd2 I've tried live chat also email nd phoning Microsoft but they always seem to want my Imei and its really bugging me lol
I'm kinda hoping someone may help me by getting hold of an activation key for me outta the goodness of their heart as don't have any funds to offer as a donation
Any help is very much appreciated

I think you should choose a better title for your thread, that´s my first thought.
Maybe this way, chances rise to get what you need. I was a bit earlier, even writing I needed an activation code for my HD2 by mistake, and I still got it.
Firstly, why on earth did you title your topic with "please help"? That should be part of the topic, not title. Titles are supposed to be descriptive of the topic, thats just common sense not rocket science.
Second, there is already loads of topics on this subject and plenty of ways to do it, some even say that they have given their HD2 imei and still got activation key and some have just kept trying and eventually got one. Nobody is going to give you their key as its assigned to their live account.
If you want a activation key you should just persevere or should have done it early on like the majority of us.
Title changed
Right instead of everyone stating the obvious and trying to point out wen nd how I should try to get a key I've tried every way that's stated on this forum and got nowhere I'm not here to get moaned at I've only had this phone a week and just wanted some help I'm not asking to take someone else's code I'm merely asking for help obtaining one if that's not too much to ask

i have an activation code
i have an activation code n i can provide you with it just pm me and i will reply to that with the activation code
Give them the HD2 IMEI number. They will then give you the code. They need it to generate the code, not to determine what phone you have.
Can't I get into any sort of trouble once they know it's a hd2 tho as that's what's putting me off
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Do you think they really scour the millions upon millions of imei codes to see if your one of "perhaps" thousands of rogue hd2 users trying to steal wp7?!
Give them your code, and they will generate a activation code for you. They will not block your phone. Let me know how it goes.

The registry settings are done via your phone, not your PC OS.
Anyway that doesnt matter anymore since the custom roms already come with this pre-done, So just flash one of teh custom ones, they are also unlocked.

Just flash one of the custom roms available (I recommend xboxmod's rom) and registry changes are already made and already unlocked. If you need a HD7 imei to get activation code, pm me and I'll give you a HD7 imei you can tell them.

instalment of rom(cyanogen 2 be specific)

as much as i read on these forums I cannot install ANY rom unless it is done STEP by step. not even kiding. I was lucky 2 find darkys rom (which was my first) from another site which i do not recall, and further more i recently installed simply honey with the assistance of a close relative of mine.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can any1 make a COMPLETE installation guide on how 2 install the latest cyanogen rom for me (like the level of cluelessness is 9/10)
I would well appreciate if an explanation of what basebands etc and wtf voodoo lagfix and whatever are. i do not understand when i read about flashing unless it is shown 2 me directly, i dont know if that even involves odin or when odin comes in or if there are other programs. all help is well apreciated. i hope there are no other complete guides for idiots on this forum( like me).
Thankyou in advance 2 any1 that can help me achieve what i am trying 2 do

no u see iv read that but it is a killer.. lol. is it asking for 2 much 2 include some screenshots?
it doesnt suit me as i am currently using gingerbread and have no idea how 2 get back down 2 froyo:S
Without being tight mate, if you can't understand a tutorial, or install froyo/eclair bootloaders, then I would respectfully suggest that cm is not for you.
Try doing alot more reading - if you'd have done even a minimal amount before posting this request, you would know that voodoo lagfix has nothing to do with cyanogenmod.
The more you do to help yourself, the more inclined others will be to help.

every1 begins somewhere, undermining me doesnt really bother me. this forum is 2 help if you guys are too lazy to help me out thats your problem. i dont need u guys to call me incapable and unworthy of moding my phone. i posted and stated CLEARLY my level in this stuff, if you are unwilling 2 provide me with what I have asked for thankyou for viewing.
alos @ woolfclubs a Tutorial involves Step by step explaining from Ground ZERO, if some1 is willing 2 make a Video tutorial would be WAY simpler than making screenshots etc.
When i put simply honey on my phone it took no longer than 15 minutes with the help of a friend over skype. I would say if i have the files i could do it in 10(as there was trial and error). So am I asking for SO much?
I make golfclubs for a living mate. I can barely turn my laptop on, however, I do read and use the search function.
If you can't be arsed to do the same, then I doubt you'll get help here.
I refer you to my first post, and here i am giving you sound advice....... If you cannot understand the basic and well described tutorial, then cyanogen mod is NOT for you.

No one is being too lazy. I spent 2 minutes looking that post up and I did not need to. I've read it already.
EVERYTHING you need to know and all links are there. How hard can it be seriously.
Take heed on the advice given buddy. You should not be flashing cm7 period....
If you don't know about bootloaders, how to revert to froyo or use search in Google, just enjoy gingerbread.
Nobody is going to write you a personal tutorial on flashing when there are dozens of guides already plus I can only imagine the pages of troubleshooting you will generate. It is a Rom not for the faint hearted.

Hi bud, i have installed numerous custom roms following instructions found on websites and i would NEVER touch cyanogen in it's current form. It is not stable enough for general day to day usage unless you are able to update regularly from the nightlies. Even then it is still too unstable to be of any use.
The new 2.3.4 stock rom is brilliant and has very few bugs (if any). If you really don't want to use a stock rom and are insistent on using a CM7 rom then i recommend Insanity instead. It is a very stable rom, supports ext4 file format, is based on CM7 but has none of the limitations that CM7 currently has.
The posts above were advising you very politely that if the instructions for installing CM7 are too difficult then not only are you going to have problems installing it but also using it too.
Hope all that helps
wow. i do not understand how you have time 2 sit here and tell me what a fool i am that i dont read etc. is it physically impossible for some1 not 2 understand how 2 do this? every thread i have read has numerous things i do not understand. reading something that i only understand about 20% of doesnt help.
I'm actually happy theres a person that replied without being an ass . Ty lembi2001 for making it clear that that rom has instability issues etc. I would appreciate any tutorials that are helpful, and also any suggestions on custom roms that look sweet and run well?
theres nothing wrong with the 1 im currently running. simplyhoney is giving me a quadrant benchmark of 1858, but i saw the cyanogen 1 and saw the limitless customizations available and thought it would be good.
thankyou again for your attention even though most of you are being pretty rude. if you didnt get help doesnt mean you shouldnt help.

My point exactly.
I know how to flash and cm7 is biach of a setup. Many things can and seem to go wrong. Nightlys sometimes improve things, sometimes not and then you have to revert back to some other nightly to then another bla bla bla.
Someone new to flashing will for sure run into problems.
Cm7 will be great when its sorted but for now why not just upgrade to stock JVQ.
Edit. Saw your last post.
Who's being rude???
you I think.
You're the one proclaiming you know nothing about flashing and unable to understand written directions. I never said you were dumb? Wtf.
Help yourself and
Harden the f#%k up.
Now that's rude.

What if the nightly that gets downloaded happens to have a bug, like err the builds as the new ril was implemented... for someone who is technology in efficient CM7 would be a nightmare.

Sorry to say, but I have to agree with the others, if that guide is complex then trying CM7 is 100% not for you.
Stick with JVP etc until a final cm7 is out.
Im saying this from the perspective of a person who can compile cm7, even I don't use it. Far too unfinished on a sgs for now.

Well, non-technics should not use CM7 then. If the latest nightly has some heavy bugs just restore the CWM-backup you have done before.
And you don't have to flash each nightly.

@b3ava - as far as quadrant scores go they are not worth the screen they are displayed on. Run quadrant three times in a row and you will see that it changes each time.
I honestly don't recommend CM7 to you because of the numerous problems you will encounter. Try the rom i recommended to you and see how you feel about it.
@Lunchbox - where in what i put is the Bullsh!t that you so eloquently pointed out? I was merely advising to another user that they WILL encounter problems with CM7. How do you know that he doesn't use the Radio on a day to day basis? How do you know that he doesn't require the ability to record HD video? As i previously stated it is too unstable for day to day usage. You also forgot to point out the 2G/3G toggle bug, No Low Power mode. I don't intend on getting into an argument with you about this but you shouldn't be so flippant as disregard VALID points so abruptly.
@Lembi: you said that it isn't usable cause of bugs and so on. I'm happy that I can do everything with my phone until it shuts off because of no battery. 2G/3G-toggle: easy solution: the energysteering (don't know the exact english word , it's a widget). With this you can easily enable/disable 3G without any problems.
So CM7 is not such buggy you said.
Sorry, for saying 'Bullsh*t'. But you are right: if you want a perfect ROM where everything works you shouldn't choose CM.

Ok guys, im not much of a andriod fanatic/developer but dont mind trying things out. The problem is there is wayyyyyy too much out there and I am clueless as in where to start. I bought the vibrant few months back. It came rooted and had Nero v3. Now after a while, its starting to suck ass. Battery life is a joke, my quadrant speeds are a joke, theres enough lag to make me wanna throw this thing at someone, hell when i recieve a call and click on talk, i have to wait literally 5 seconds for it to register what the heck ive told it to do and that is, answer the damn call. So now i just dont know where to start, so many roms its not even funny. Should I go back to stock and try gingerbread? Should i put a different rom? please help!!!!

One of the newest 2.2 roms out is by Br1ck'd called Zendroid 2.1, it has all the latest tweaks and improvements. It's super fast and smooth and I'm getting an easy 24hrs of battery with moderate use, give that a spin.
Start here, or here. Pour over pretty much every thread in the development section, and then go to town. This is how I learned, anyway. I started with Trigger, and have pretty much stuck with it from the beginning, in all of it's forms, but I switch out kernels like underwear. Right now I'm running Trigger Redux with Bali-CM 2.1. Battry life with the latest Bali isn't what I would want, but it has a lot of good extras to make carrying the extra battery around with me worth it. Good luck!

Download the ROM and put it on your internal SD card (13gb), now go to recovery and do all 3 wipes...wipe data/factory reset///wipe cache partition, then scroll down to advanced and wipe dalvik cache. i personally do each 3 times to make sure I get everything. Then got to install zip from SD card///choose zip from SD card and confirm install.
BTW when reinstalling from titanium, make sure you select app only NOT app+data, you may have to sign in to everything again but it eliminates alot of headaches.
ok guys so im going through the steps mentioned to flash a new rom. Basically I have backed up my apps through titanium backup, backed up my contacts and sms messages. Im getting an error message while doing this part
Reboot into Clockwork Recovery and make a backup (Bootup holding both volume buttons until you see “Vibrant” then release).

That msg could be though that you're using the wrong SD card, external instead of internal???
