I got a zte blade to toy with yesterday as they are so cheap (£100+10 top up) and i am quite impressed. The specs are pretty slick-
•Android 2.1 Eclair
•Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz processor
•512MB RAM
•UMTS 900/2100 MHz
•GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz
•HSDPA (3G+)
•3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus
•3.5" WVGA (800x480) OLED capacative touchscreen
•WiFi 802.11 b/g
•Bluetooth
•FM radio
•GPS
•Accelerometer
•Digital compass
•Light sensor
•Proximity sensor
I have rooted it and put clockwork recovery and a custom rom on it already, this puppy is fast for the price. I still have my wildfire but find myself pocketing this when i go out, the screen is lovely.
Anyone else got one or getting one to toy with?

Its a very good phone for the money, 512mb ram in a 99 quid phone ooer what were they thinking. I have crap loads of apps installed on it and still have 209mb ram and 136mb storage left. I think they are gonna sell like hot cakes.
Ive got astro pro, battstatt, dropbox, extended controls, mini info, quick boot, rom manager, snesoid, system info widget, system panel, tajm, wifi reenabler and zenonia on it, on the wildfire unless i used apps2sd all these were an awfully big chunk gone.

No point, it's pretty much stock AOSP at a much higher resolution (WVGA)
It is pretty much stock 2.1, mine has a black bar from a mod, but it is white stock. There is just a few orange apps on it, not heavily modded though.
It is a shame this phone is available only in the uk.

Been a user of HD2 since release and follower of xda since then!
Been using Android on HD2 as much as possible last few months...now....I own a Desire HD!
Thanks to the developers here, I've happily converted to Android full time!
Thanks again developers, hello Android!
For anybody else getting rid of their HD2 in the UK, if you go on mobilevaluer.com, you can trade it in for £170 cash! I'll be doing that

MobileValuer.com doesn't take any money, it is just like comparethemarket.com and confused.com. It compares offers from all of the sites that recycle phones like Envirofone etc, so I don't see any value (no pun intended) in advertising the website!
I'm sure ill see many regular posters from HD2 in the DHD forums I'm loving Android now!
Serious question though, is Android on the Desire HD any better than running a Desire HD ROM on the HD2?

Yes, far better.
HD video recording - camera is by far better.
Battery lasts longer when using Android.
Android is a lot smoother (possibly because of the 800mb of RAM). Also read the DHD has a much better GPU and newer CPU.
Official support as well (although sometimes support by the devs at xda is better )
I also had reliability problems with all builds I've tried on HD2, I've tried 4 different radio versions as well as about 6 different builds, my favorite and most stable one was shubCraft's however, after about a week of use, I would have to reformat and start again as black screen of death would occur more and more frequently the longer I used a build.
To be honest, I got a little bit sick of supporting and tweaking my phone, normally I would love to spend hours tweaking, but now I'm at Uni full time and trying to work full time as well as run a house - so I never find the time to do the tweaks I want to do!
Looks wise, I definitely think I've downgraded, the Desire HD is hideous compared to the beauty of the HD2, but I prefer functionality over beauty (although not when it comes to operating systems!)
HD2 is a brilliant phone though - as long as you have the time to spend on it and tweak it, fix it and support it.

You must be of your rocker,
I just checked that website, it valued my Fully working HD2 for £114!!!
the phone cost over £400 quid and I'm gonna sell it to them for £114 ...
lol,
In anycase, I'm not selling it, as long as XDA developers supports the phone ...
The only thing the Desire HD has over the HD2 is HD recording, and the Adreno 205 graphics Chip ...
don't be suprised if XDA get HD recording working ...
graphics performance is pretty descent anyway ...

Raz
after my mate had a play with my HD2 on android, he decided to buy a htc!sadly the HD desire, but its a pukka phone, system runs beautifully. Can make a man change his mind...but im sticking with the HD2,
Why not have the best of two worlds ?
Having Android on the HD2 and wait until Samsung issues the Galaxy S2, keep the HD2 and have both to play

i think it's nice to have the views of someone who has used both the phones on android...and i think it's just made me that much surer that i'm sticking with my HD2 for now..with xda chefs the possibilities are endless.
I think the hd runs android tonnes better then the hd2, but im sure it will be on par soon enough
Of course android running natively on the DHD is a lot better than the gimped android we run on HD2. With the obvious aside, I dont think you're missing much other than the camera.

Exactly! Was planning on switching to sprint in jan. This is just in time. Just what I wanted. I do not want a behemoth to carry arround. My nexus one with 3.7 screen is perfect size. All I missed was a slide out keyboard and front facing cam.
One other thing I like to consider though. Which will be more likely to have future OS versions ported? I dont bother on relying on sprint/samsung/htc for updates. I am asking about difficulty for devs. A big reason I was considering the epic is that the nexus s came out running the same platform, which made me think porting new OS releases would relatively easy. Is the shift likely to get new releases faster since it is an HTC product? I know it is impossible to know anything but what are your guy's thoughts on this right now?

Err, not sure if this is sarcasm, as beyond exaggeration it is false. You imply the shift has a slower CPU. Dont count mhz. The second gen snapdragon in the shift will certainly outperform the evo without question and with 45nm tech get better batt life to boot. I agree the Evo is not sluggish though. Which means the shift will be even better. Maybe you just need to ditch sense?
As for screen size that is not a downgrade. It is user preference. I like a nice compact device, not a brick.
Same thing with keyboard. I like getting real work done on my handset. KB is very effective.
If you already know this and were joking I apologize . If you were serious you should really rethink your position and recognize that different things suit different people (the CPU issue however is clear cut that the shift is superior).
Cheers!
Those of you who do decide to buy the Shift might be disappointed come June when the true successor to the Evolution drops.

Honestly, if your EVO is that bad then you either have a bad device, or you've done something horribly wrong, in which case.. you shouldn't worry about owning a smartphone.. stick to the flips.

ATRIX... starwars... 1.5ghz..... link me!
Making a smartphone with full of newest specs is easy for any OEMs but it is hard to make a STABLE smartphone with no BUGS or glitches. That's where atrix is way above than the S2, Sensation, LG's end others. I always said that Sensation, S2 wouldn't last more than 6 months without something broken. I wasn't wrong, just check their forums, lol. Atrix was advertised as the " Worlds most powerful smartphone " and that still counts.
just my 2 cents.
The only thing holding the Atrix back is it's software. The stock ROM is kinda poor when compare to others and we don't have a completely stable AOSP ROM base yet. I know the custom ROM do a great job of making this phone FLY, but once we have a clean build and some more ROMs not hindered by Blur, this will be a tough phone to beat for some time. Case in point, look at quadrant numbers (I know they mean little) on Atrix's with clock speeds of 1.2 and 1.3 ghz...they are through the roof, and I believe and above S2's of the spec. Why Moto doesn't doesn't write better ROM's is a mystery to me.
Edit 1.3ghz Typo .....remove stick from A$$ slowly and proceed to your nearest exit

Can you play MKV's in the stock video player?
The lack of good out-of-the-box video support is what's holding me back from getting a non-exynos version of the sgs2.
This phone is a beast exynos or no exynos processor. if it cant play MKV format movies out of the box there's an app for that. i would really like to see a web browsing experience with the Hercules.

and smooth as well(or hell).
Have you tested the gps?

Meh. Show me it competes with the upcomming Prime or that it has a backlit illuminated camera. Otherwise it's old news.

i don't know what you really mean by testing the gps, but i tried to locate myself on the app called "TeleNav GPS Navigator." it seems it's doing what it's supposed to do.
only couple meters off i think.

It's just nicer having hardware acceleration for video decoding. Less glitchiness. Smoother overall. That's why I like the Hummingbird in the Vibrant.

It should be able to as Samsung has a whole bunch of codecs which wouldn't be hard to implement into qualcomm s3 processor. The sound should be better as well compared to the original Samsung galaxy 2. Looks like Samsung can use qualcomm processor to its full potential unlike htc. I will be picking mines up at the store on release date. Now all we need is a forum.

Out of curiosity... Why?
The SGS Vibrant and the SGSII both have gorilla glass. http://gizmodo.com/5726124/what-is-gorilla-glass
I was reading some of the reviews and it mentioned that the phone didn't have wificalling? Is this true?

Have you tried it to see if it works? That was one of the selling points to me. Then I heard it wouldn't work and then I heard an update would activate it. Don't know what to believe.
Proves agian samsung is better than htc but this phone still doesnt make my mouth water

Wow!
This score really tempting me to make an upgrade with my phone, the only one missing is the water an dust proof.
Warm regards from Indonesia in my Motorola Galaxy s3

what does Benchmark Pi test, thats the one that shows huge difference between the S4pro on XZ, Rest are barely anything for me personally. I think some had held back by chrome on the XZ.
all these benchmarks are looking incredible
i cant freaking wait till source is out for the kernel
OVER 9000!

Way over! Damn!
Htc one got 12000+
SKYDRAGON, El M1
Things I am more interested about --
1] Geekbench
2] GLbenchmark
3] Kraken, Octane, Peacekeeper
I thought people stopped using Quadrant long back. Apparently I was very wrong

Hey Zarboz you planning on getting one of these?
btw I usually would put more emphasis on touch responsiveness and UI smoothness/consistent framerate as compared to benchmark scores However benchmark scores of this phone do show that it is in a whole other class compared to any other phone out right now... but I guess it is the first of the next generation, just like the One X was
We'll have to see what the rest are like, especially the GS4
For sure sg4 will be plastic as usually, with a bunch of stuff like multi windows, s vocie and so on that i turn off, just to save battery. Really, samy does it cheaper... Also twz is ugly and boring.
Or wait to X Moto phone
SkyDragon Team© No Kangy rom allowed.
Maximum can get quadrant benchmark on my s3 just around 8k
Htc one too powerful, big thanks to s600 new processor always better than old processor lol
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Those are really high numbers. I'm assuming some sort of custom rom, and /or over clocked? The M7 is running pre released stock sense, I wonder what an over clocked kernel running custom or AOSP would give!

3D benchmarks.....all these get boring when the GPUs power is not fully shown for a game freak like me.....those front speakers with gaming:what::what::what: can't wait.
Gamers leegoooo

I don't get the point in benchmarks really, what does a number really tell you? =/
One phone gets say 14,000, One gets 8,000... what does that actually translate to though? =/

Use phone x, y and z and observe the performance.
My experiences in Quadrant... Transform SDXed out: 500+, Evo Shift OCd 1500ish, EVO3d OCd 3900
Each phone was that much faster for games and real world use, mostly.
The outlier was the Transform, butter smooth on the UI. Better than the EVO3d on the homescreen stock. But totally crap for most anything games.
Yeah... I'm about to jump ship and come back to HTC.
Sorry Sammy

Put it like this. Car A can travel at a maximum speed of 100km/h while car B can travel 150km/h
the numbers are the benchmarks. Car B is faster so car A wins.
The reason why they say benchmarks are useless because let's put Car B to real life use.
Car B has 150km/h speed but would you use it in driving the streets? If yes then good luck on the speed limit cameras.

Well... yes... but there can sometimes be an indirect effect on things like battery life. If a chipset is capable of doing more processing for the same amount of power, that likely means it can do the same amount of processing with less power, which means the battery will last longer.
Also, once apps start to become more demanding in the future - more complex 3D games that come out in a year or so - the phones that are faster in the benchmarks now will be able to play newer games for longer before hitting frame-rates that are too low to be enjoyable.
Think of it as car B having a more powerful engine, which lets it go up steeper hills while carrying the same load.
